Twilight, Disney and again, Sanrio

18 Mar

Etsy was contacted by Sanrio (Hello Kitty) a couple of years ago and there was a halfhearted attempt by Etsy telling people to remove their HK items. But apparently since then Etsy has taken the view that they will deal with each individual violation as it is reported, not deal with it side-wide. So anyone whose copyright is violated must constantly be on patrol and must report every single violation – or at least that is how I am understanding it.

There were a lot of threads about it back in April/May 2007, here’s one that still lives:

And here is another story about an individual artist whose work was stolen by a digital collage sheet maker:
I wonder if she got any satisfaction from Etsy.

Here’s another thread about an Etsy seller using another Etsy seller’s pictures of products in digital collage sheets:

Oh wow that thread. Calling somebody out in the forums is as bad as selling plagiarized images? Right…

ooooh, man there is a seller on etsy that sells a lot of twilight stuff but also bags she makes with Brian Frouds Art!
Man the bags look crap and the photos are too, why ruin such gorgeous art by putting it on this mess.
I contacted Brian Froud but her shop still there.
