wtf?

27 Aug

This shop has us scratching our heads.

stylinbeadygirl

Her announcement: This store is now in vacation mode. Someone has hacked into my store and taken down my items. Sorry for the disruption.
Her feedback: 88% 21 negatives almost all in a row.

So if there is obviously a problem with her not delivering goods AND the shop is in vacation mode, HOW is there an item available to buy?

WTFraud!

Wow, that’s some intense feedback! Sounds personal, too — I wonder what the story is behind all that.

  2. Marky August 27, 2009 at 10:04 am #

I think someone’s got it in for her:

    http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=6257870

  3. Max August 27, 2009 at 10:48 am #

She had perfect feedback until 1 unhappy seller earlier this summer, and a bazillion negs from this 1 customer. Funny the tone & language of the 2 customers sounds very similar.

I’m sure she wasn’t hacked. An Admin probably shut her down without notice, like they’re prone to do lately.

Really, that sounds more like the buyer from hell than anything else. Writing such rotten stuff makes it seem clear that the buyer may be the unreasonable one in this conflict.

  4. Christine August 27, 2009 at 10:52 am #

    What gets me is this:

“This thief will rip you off good. She won’t even send the necklaces I paid for the 1st time and told me I could buy a 2nd one. In the end she screwed me out of 2 payments.
I should have known not to buy anything from this trailer trash welfare mother!”

So, you bought something, didn’t receive the first purchase – and you’re so fucking stupid that you were talked into purchasing a SECOND necklace – and got upset when you didn’t receive the first OR the second order – and THEN you somehow know, personally, that this woman is on welfare????

I’m sorry but – you’re an asshole if you allowed yourself to get screwed twice. This person sounds like they have more of a personal vendetta against the seller then anything else.

  5. Bedazzled Condom August 27, 2009 at 11:26 am #

That’s just awful. I agree it sounds personal. Why bring up welfare if it is not personal? I hope Etsy sees fit to remove the feedback. They’ve already removed the nutjob.

Now, why does Ulja come to mind?

  6. twisted August 27, 2009 at 11:27 am #

I don’t think you can say there’s “obviously’ a problem with the seller or accuse her of being a fraud. Some of the feedback references personal information (or accusations) about being on welfare etc – not something your average buyer would know anything about. Without hearing both sides this reeks of a personal vendetta rather than a poor seller.

  7. Lindsey August 27, 2009 at 11:50 am #

It has to be personal. She is dishing comments about the seller having crappy stuff yet she never received it, so how does she know it’s crappy?

  8. Hedder August 27, 2009 at 12:22 pm #

Did you also notice that the username that left all the negative feedback is no longer valid? Something is up.

  9. JK August 27, 2009 at 12:58 pm #

Odd, that buyer ID was plenty good earlier today.

  10. meh August 27, 2009 at 1:35 pm #

she obviously just got pissed off after a seeming legit transaction went bad, and bought out her entire shop, and left that harassing feedback that same day.

etsy needs to remove that feedback, as it is clear that the only motivation behind the buyers “purchases” was to slander her shop.

    how awful

  11. oh joy! August 27, 2009 at 2:14 pm #

just the sort of dillweed buyers that need to be shut down. the poor seller.who cares if a person is on welfare or what kind of home they live in. how is this appropriate?

    and, who sends money orders,anyway?

  12. Hedder August 27, 2009 at 3:19 pm #

Meh hit the nail on the head. There is another (legitimate) seller who also left some negative feedback that sounds really similar to the big slew ‘o negs. This is a call out alright, but it’s a call-out on the sockpuppet! I think stylinbeadygirl is legit. When her store got bought out by the sockpuppet, she mistakenly took that for being hacked.

It is odd, however, that her shop is in vacation mode yet the listings are all still visible (?).

  13. oh joy! August 27, 2009 at 4:32 pm #

yeah i’m confused too-is that the “new” vacation mode?

  14. meh August 27, 2009 at 5:31 pm #

that is weird. when i saw this on closed threads i went to look at the shop, and noticed the “buyer” bought out her shop, and left harassing feedback, but at the time, there were no listings.

    http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=6264146&page=1

I love it when people call themselves out in the forums. And others chime in, well maybe it’s vintage? WTF. It’s a mass produced game, and he talks about the woodworker in the 3rd person AND he has a website devoted to selling mass produced. Gag me. I have no patience today.

  16. Ginna August 28, 2009 at 7:24 am #

WTF?! This seller even admits in all of the listings titles and descriptions that she is reselling new items she purchased!!

    Seller:
    http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=7951549

    Example #1:
    http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29946102

    Item description:
“Only dog frames left-hoping to get another shipment of the cat frames soon, but please contact me on Etsy to make sure the cat frames come in.”

    Item title:
    “new in case”

    Example #2:

    http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29943066

    Item description:
    “Authentic”
    “New”
    “Paws N Claws with tags”

AND all of the imagines are stolen from other retailers.

  17. nocluejuggalette August 28, 2009 at 8:12 am #

I can tell you exactly what happened. I bought one necklace and mailed payment. Afterwards I asked about having a 2nd one made just like the 1st. It took some time but then the bitch wrote back and told me she could make a 2nd one. So then I mailed payment for the 2nd one. It was to be a mother/daughter set and that is how she ripped me off twice.
It took along time emailing her and dealing with esty to do something. Both money orders were cashed. I send money orders that is who does that , I thought it would be easier for her than a personal check. Screw etsy and the way they protect the con artists , that is why you can’t call out. I will go back to ebay.
As for her being on welfare , she informed me that because she was a single welfare mother it would be awhile before I would get my refund. Where in the hell did the money I send go?
And after a long wait , what happened, happened.

  18. Bedazzled Condom August 28, 2009 at 8:35 am #

I think you’re a liar BUT even if you’re telling the truth, NOTHING about your story justifies your insane behavior.

You do not have the right to make a sock puppet account and terrorize this seller. The fact that your account has since been closed should tell you something.

You should seek medical help, STAT.

  19. Bedazzled Condom August 28, 2009 at 8:43 am #

P.S. A sane person would be worried about her seller account.

  20. molls August 28, 2009 at 8:45 am #

nocluejuggalette, a little perspective and a little anger management might be in order. Whew.

  21. toonces August 28, 2009 at 9:27 am #

This is one of those cases where a seller who sucks and a buyer who sucks happen to find each other, worlds collide, and shit happens. The buyer sucks for not refunding immediately, and we all certainly know why the buyer sucks.

  22. nocluejuggalette August 28, 2009 at 9:40 am #

Gee whiz , so now I’m a liar. That bothered me for one second until I considered the source and realized the poor soul sitting behind their computer making such off the cuff comments when they weren’t even involved.
Why should I even care about my account , it was closed for your info , unlike I would be back anyhow.
This had been my 2nd purchase from etsy and I found it bothersome that I was screwed so quickly.
This person also has a record of screwing anyone that pays using a method other than pay pal. So smart guy , why don’t you send stylinbeadygirl a check or money order for something and see what happens? Or would that require you to put your money where your fat ass mouth is?
I told it just like it happened and have nothing to hide but you keep hiding behind your computer and comment on everyone elses life since that seems to be all you have going for you.

  23. Max August 28, 2009 at 10:10 am #

Thank goodness you’ve left Etsy. I’d hate to have you accidentally wander into my shop. Good riddance. I hope I don’t bump into you at eBay.

And by the way, get a freakin’ life. It’s just a few bucks for little necklace. Maybe $25 for a pretty little string of beads.

You act as if she stole your car, foreclosed on your house and slapped your children. There are bigger problems in life. Try to match your outrage to the level of the actual offense.

  24. Laura August 28, 2009 at 11:08 am #

Well, I would be fired up if someone stole money from me too. I don’t know if I would go that harsh, but still to be out $25? It’s illegal for her to to just to take her money, and I’d cause a stink too.

  25. Laura August 28, 2009 at 11:10 am #

I wouldn’t do the whole sock puppet thing b/c what recourse does that get you? I would contact BBB, Etsy admin, and everyone I could to get my money back though.

  26. Dagnabbit August 28, 2009 at 11:15 am #

Somebody needs real issues to obsess over. Or maybe it’s just a case of misplaced anger — way over the top.

  27. Bedazzled Condom August 28, 2009 at 11:20 am #

“Why should I even care about my account , it was closed for your info , unlike I would be back anyhow.”

One account was closed. The sock puppet account. Not your main account. Yet.

    You’re not invisible, sweetheart.

  28. MadeByM**** August 28, 2009 at 12:25 pm #

Sad this person doesn’t admit to all the other sales and bad feedback…..they are only sticking to the 2 necklaces story.

Another reason to protect yourself as a buyer, by using Paypal..at least if a sale does go bad, you have an option to try and get your money back within in so many days of your purchase. Once you pay “cash” in the form of a check or money order, kiss your money good bye.

Who knows why you never got your necklaces or refund, but just remember……what goes around, comes around!

  29. nocluejuggalette August 28, 2009 at 12:29 pm #

WTF is all this talk about sick puppets? Do you not hear me , my account is closed. Trust me , I tired to log in today.
It was more than 25 dollars. The total for both necklaces and shipping comes to $65.00
The only thing contacting etsy did was to close my account and let the con artist continue buit I think that’s because the sellers pay the etsy bill and the buyers don’t

  30. nocluejuggalette August 28, 2009 at 12:31 pm #

Admit what? Did I clean out her store after I got screwed for 65 dollars? Yes I did and I’d do it again. I only did that once it became way painfully obviuos who I was dealing with.

  31. oh joy! August 28, 2009 at 12:42 pm #

so your first necklace was 25 and the second one for your daughter cost more? what, is she a really large child? why would your child’s necklace cost more? and the shipping cost? all of this was 65? you must be kidding
it all sounds like a bunch of total b.s. dude
and all the cursing and freak out over such a thing?
any logical person would realize sending a money order out into the world is more risky than using paypal. just because someone signs the back of it doesnt mean it was their signature. but whatever, sounds like you both have issues and so glad etsy has you blocked.

  32. Bedazzled Condom August 28, 2009 at 12:45 pm #

Your sock puppet* account was closed because of your heinous actions, not because you requested that it be closed.

Your selling account is still up and running. For now.

Once again, you’re not invisible and we’re not stupid.

*”sick puppet” works too, Freudian much?

  33. Graceless August 28, 2009 at 12:53 pm #

Holy hell. Now I understand why prozac is so prevalent in our society.

  34. nocluejuggalette August 28, 2009 at 12:56 pm #

Condom , you are stupid whether you believe it or not.
I am 22 my mother is 51 , there is no little childs necklace. Again some just make up stuff in their own minds.
The shipping was 11 dollars for both. I thought that was higher than it should have been but figured that is how she does business. On ebay they often send 2 small items together. I guess that should have been a clue. I use money orders or checks on ebay all the time despite them trying to make you use pay pal. I tired to use pay pal but could not because I do not have a credit card to set up the account.
Maybe condom is an etsy admin. They come here and act high and mighty but won’t use their etsy name either because they are etsy admin or the fear of having etsy see them talk trash. Who is the scared one. Tuff talk from either an etsy admin or one who wishes to kiss their ring while acting out here. I fear nothing and put it all out there. Juggalos never run.

  35. meh August 28, 2009 at 1:19 pm #

first, many etsy sellers are also ebay sellers. second, the reason your sock puppet account was closed was because you fraudulently purchased items in an attempt to slander someones business.

when purchasing online use paypal, and paypal only. that way if the selling venue can’t get your money back for whatever reason, paypal can, with a dispute.

you unfortunatly found a less than reputable seller that may have taken you for a ride, but there are avenues out there that you need to use to protect yourself when shopping online.

why shop online if you don’t understand how to protect the money you work so hard for? i don’t pay anyone with anything other than paypal.

toonces said it best “This is one of those cases where a seller who sucks and a buyer who sucks happen to find each other, worlds collide, and shit happens. The buyer sucks for not refunding immediately, and we all certainly know why the buyer sucks.”

and i.c.p. sucks. i just had to throw that in there.

  37. Graceless August 28, 2009 at 1:20 pm #

You don’t need to have a PayPal account even set up in order to pay with a debit card (bank account). When you choose to pay with money orders or by check, you are taking a serious risk. Welcome to a lesson learned, if indeed the events unfolded as you have stated.

Second. Calling someone trailer trash while inflicting the general public with your own puerile acts is…eye-blinkingly hilarious. If that is how you respond to a business transaction gone awry, you should definitely be elsewhere. And dealing with people who are prepared to deal with that level of crazy in advance.

Third. For someone who has little experience with Etsy, you certainly found this website fast enough.

Fourth. Upon googling “juggalo”, I laughed some more.

  38. meh August 28, 2009 at 1:28 pm #

This site was found when I googled stylinbeadygirl when I could no longer log into etsy. Try it. How many dumbasses are there here anyhow? It’s obviuos of the number if chicken shits who hide behind their screens and invent shit in their own minds.
At least some of you get it , the rest can only be assumed that they are bought and paid for etsy bitches.

meh, invoking a shitty “omghardcore” band to somehow get some sort of internet cred made my day (what can I say, I’ve been trapped writing excel formulas for hours so the bar is reallyreallyreally low).

Hands down most amusing thing I’ve seen today.

“Oh yeah? I’ll TELL you why I’m not crazy by using lyrics from the Insane Clown Posse.”

Where can I collect my Etsy Bitches money? Because I would like to cash in on this lucrative offer.

Alright. Slightly more catty than I intended. But I don’t use my backspace key for just anybody.

Too much anger, too much resentment, too much obssessive vengeance. This is not good for you, noclue; if you can think in your own best interests you need to pay attention to what you are saying and what you are doing.
Blood pressure meds are very expensive– it’ll cost you a lot more than $65 to get your pulse manageable if you continue to spew forth this way.
Way out of proportion– all you have done and said regarding how you have been “screwed over” is very telling. You need to let it go and find another way to deal with your disappointments.
    Or, get laid.

“I tired to use pay pal but could not because I do not have a credit card to set up the account.”

No credit card = Luh – ooozer . . . the check probably bounced, that’s why the seller never shipped anything.

  59. Graceless August 29, 2009 at 11:44 am #

I don’t have a credit card, and while I’m sure my loser status is debatable….

My own credit-free life is a choice. I’m not in debt, and I pay for everything outright in advance (including travel) or I don’t buy it. That’s just me and my family though 🙂

And in the buyers defense, she paid with a money order. That is also the last time I will speak up on behalf of crazy. Mostly because…..I don’t want more invitations to freak parties.

  60. toonces August 29, 2009 at 12:08 pm #

“No credit card = Luh – ooozer”

    That’s ridiculously judgemental.

I’m totally disgusted with the vengeful methods and lengths that this crappy buyer went to to cause problems for a seller, but really, this says quite a bit about how frustrated people get trying to get satisfaction by dealing with Etsy directly. I see a lot of people in the forums who tried resolving problems by contacting admin or various depts. of Etsy, only to get nowhere at all. So they come to the forums and “call out” even though they know it’s against the rules, because now it’s on the table and Etsy has to deal with it.

Note that I am in no way excusing your shitty behavior, jugs. You’re a nightmare.

  61. Life During Wartime August 29, 2009 at 1:12 pm #

I don’t have a credit card, either. I own my condo and my car, and use my PayPal balance/debit card to buy stuff online. Oh, and I don’t have to work (or collect government checks) to pay my bills. Just my opinion, but I think people who are indebted to The Man, and harsh on people who live differently, seem like losers.

That the buyer under discussion seems like an over-the-top possible whackjob has nothing to do with how she made her payment. I’ve accepted personal checks and money orders from online customers with no problem. It’s getting paid — not the kind of payment — that matters in a transaction.

  62. Dagnabbit August 29, 2009 at 4:17 pm #

    Say it again!

Here’s a new one that just sort of jumps out at you if you go to the front page right now:
    http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29608899&ref=fp_feat_3

It’s a featured seller – and they are using “Twilight” and “New Moon” to feature this piece. Question is – do they have permissions to be featuring this as a piece for the Twilight series from the copy right holder? The item very well may be original, but tagging it as Twilight and New Moon that is the problem!

  71. Christine August 30, 2009 at 8:47 am #

oh, and the same front page, another “Twilight” inspired item..

You don’t even need a credit card to set up a paypal account (I don’t have one) just a bank account so that isn’t even an excuse. Even less so now that prepaid cards are so ubiquitous.

  75. Graceless August 30, 2009 at 3:10 pm #

Alright. I’m pretty convinced meh and I are sockpuppets.

I’m really disgusted by the sheer amount of “Twilight” sellers who have no qualms ripping off movie stills and promotional images. I’ve begun compiling a list of shops and every few days (or whenever my inner craft rage gets the better of me), I email the new list to the production company (or the publishers, should there be book images used).

I feel like I should note that I’m not a seller, I’m a buyer who spends a lot of money on various shops within Etsy. And I’m starting to wonder when I’ll start seeing fake LV purses en masse, what with Etsy already treating their website like the “fell off a truck” back alley deal that it has become.

  76. Life During Wartime August 30, 2009 at 3:53 pm #

“Fell off a truck” is so right!

Today was another ‘Etsy calls this vintage, even though it’s not’ Sunday on the FP and the Dorque.

    http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25220353

I didn’t think you could grab something a few years old at a yard sale or thrift shop, sell it with something else unrelated that may or may not be 20+ years old (can’t tell from the photos), and list the marriage as ‘vintage’? There’s no assemby of the items, it’s just collected unrelated stuff.
    http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25220353

But then the Etsy staff doesn’t know any better. The staff continues to ignore so many items that are handmade and look kinda cool, or are really vintage, to promote copyrighted items and yard sale castoff stuff.

Oh, and the few people I know who have been into the real equestrian thing would gag at Etsy’s idea of ‘equestrian style’. I think Etsy is confusing costumes for comedy rodeo acts, or what people who just collect items related to a specific animal (the horse, in this case) buy, with ‘equestrian’. Doesn’t matter so much now. Read an article on MSN about fall fashion trends last week, and it said the equestrian thing is ovah.

  77. meh August 30, 2009 at 6:59 pm #

hahaha! i’ve always wanted to be a sock puppet.

🙂 i do have a shop, but it’s in vacation mode while i explore other mediums. but i do buy on etsy…all the time.

  78. JK August 30, 2009 at 7:07 pm #

If we’re posting more offensive listings, I have to say this one makes my head hurt:

    http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29947975&ref=sr_list_14&&ga_search_query=dior&ga_search_type=vintage&ga_page=2&order=date_desc&includes%5B%5D=tags&includes%5B%5D=title

I think ‘Twilight’ is just about the only buzzword *not* in the title! The rest of the shop is just as bad, if not worse.

Fonth drives me crazy! Beautiful pictures and the jewelry even looks cute (cheap cute but still cute) but no way…no way is it not mass produced. It’s embarassing that Etsy lets him stay there when the proof is as easy as this:
RedTeddy on Etsy sold this: http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=17292862
    Fonth has it here: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29251232
Fonth also has this bracelet: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=28785500
which looks a whole lot like this one from ThaiSterlingSilver:
    http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29415828
ThaiSterlingSilver has this necklace: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=sr_list_11&listing_id=26548846&ga_search_query=red+necklace&ga_search_type=user_shop_ttt_id_7022981 which looks an awful lot like the one that was sold on BenWorldHandmade: http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=16814194
BenWorldHandmade doesn’t have anything listed now, but when they did, they had this: http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=17150212 which, although made in different colors, still looks a lot like this bracelet by InfinityJewelryClub: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29806989
InfinityJewelryClub also sells this necklace: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=28818197 which looks almost identical to this necklace by Fonth: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=sr_list_9&listing_id=29388489&ga_search_query=green+necklace&ga_search_type=user_shop_ttt_id_5953890

These suppliers have items that look really similar to what the Etsy shops listed above are selling:
http://cgi.ebay.com/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280380048407 (this ebay seller used to have an Etsy shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6196400&ga_search_query=jdream&ga_search_type=seller_usernames)

When they were called out the first time, this blog was pretty new. I definitely think they could use a second call out. And speaking of “no way did you make that” turquoise rings, this shop has been bugging me for a long time: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29274168

really is there anything worse than Insane Clown Posse fans? name one thing worse… you can’t.

but, to get back to the subject, buying out a whole shop and insulting the seller on a personal level.. you are a complete moron.

good luck in life. I mean it.

  83. Bedazzled Condom August 31, 2009 at 8:34 am #

Credit cards are great, if you can handle them. If you can’t then by all means stay the hell away from them because debt is a serious soul sucker.

Good news! All the juggaboob negatives are now gone from the seller’s profile.

(The two negs from whackjob littledebsdresses still remain. Hmmm, similar much? Hopefully, someone is now or soon will be learning a lesson.)

Amen to the no credit carders. Glad to hear that not everyone is up to their eyeballs in debt.
    >>>

not everyone who uses cc’s are up to their eyeballs in debt. Some of us are responsible with our money (and have incredible credit ratings and oodles of credit/money at our fingertips because of it)…

    ************

Also, if you always pay cash, you don’t need a credit score! 🙂 That’s my goal anyway.

But, thinking of it as oodles of credit/money at your fingertips is a debt death trap. It’s not real money and you will pay MORE real money for it later. Better to save and buy when you can afford it. Oh, but that’s not instant gratification .

    Anyway, enough said on that.

  88. Brenda September 1, 2009 at 9:52 am #

Well, we own our home, 3 vehicles and have plenty of savings but we use cc’s to rack up points for free trips/hotels/airmiles/cash back.

We’ve gone to Europe for free thanks to working the cc’s not letting the cc’s work us. We’re now working towards a Hawaii trip…in about 4 years, for free. wheres the instant gratification in that?

No balance here either! and we put between $2000-8000 a month on our cc’s (hubby travels so puts his hotel, flights, rental cars, meals etc on cc’s).

but most people don’t have self-control like that so I definitely don’t recommend it unless you can handle it.

Its just an insult to responsible users to say that ALL cc use is bad. It’s not, you just need to know how to play the game.

“Also, if you always pay cash, you don’t need a credit score!”

How do you qualify for a mortgage without a credit score?

  90. toonces September 1, 2009 at 12:06 pm #

I love having credit cards. The trick is to pay off the full amt every month and never carry over the balance. It’s a game….we charge a certain amt every month on purpose, to get the points. When we were first married our credit limit was 500 dollars, it’s now 45 thousand. They keep raising the amt, trying to tempt us into overextending ourselves so that we can’t pay the bill at the end of the month, but we won’t fall for it. That’s what they do, that’s how they make their money – those juicy finance charges. We’ve never paid finance charges. We’ve gotten thousands of dollars worth of free gift certificates and rewards by using credit. Like everything else, it’s got its good points and its bad.

  91. Lindsey September 1, 2009 at 2:48 pm #

Never said cc’s were all bad, just glad to hear that there were people who do without cc’s.

Bedazzled, that’s just it, you can pay cash for a house too. Like I said though, that’s a goal, I’m not there yet. The point is though, if you never use credit, you don’t need credit.

And if you can play the system with the rewards and never have a problem then that’s great! It’s just that a lot of people do have a problem and the little purchases here in there rack up. It’s all about self control.

One account was closed. The sock puppet account. Not your main account. Yet.

    You’re not invisible, sweetheart.

    *****************

Check the feedback now. The recent negative ones left by the sock puppet have been cleaned out. Since all those very nasty, hateful, and disgusting feedbacks were removed from the sock puppet nocluejuggalette you can see the two negatives that were left earlier this year by an Etsy seller (littledebsdresses http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6093528) who claimed she never received two necklaces purchased. I think it is pretty easy to figure out who that nasty little sockpuppet was. The negatives she left in April for stylinbeadgirl are ironically very similar too:

“Also, if you always pay cash, you don’t need a credit score! 🙂 That’s my goal anyway.”

Are you going to pay cash for a house? You have 500K in cash?
Doesn’t the IRS automatically get suspicious of people who buy houses for cash? (I mean not $10,000 foreclosed teardown shacks, but real livable houses)

Or if you don’t want to buy a home, then you’ll need to rent and they check your credit score for that too.
It’s wise to have some cards for emergencies even if you never carry a balance. Also you need a credit card to rent a car, to register at nicer hotels, the list goes on. Not having one puts a lot of restrictions on your lifestyle. Do you do much traveling?
Also, paying with a credit card gives you additional security, especially for buying things online. You also have more security if it is stolen- there is a cap on how much you can lose or be liable for. If someone steals your wad of cash, it’s gone.

Having credit cards doesn’t automatically mean buying stuff you cannot afford. I have credit cards and 0 debt. I use them for convenience, not to live beyond my means. It’s a tool, you just have to use it for your benefit and not let it use you.
If someone doesn’t have enough self control to handle credit cards I don’t know how they’d have enough self control to save up enough cash for a HOUSE.

    This is funny to read.

  95. Graceless September 5, 2009 at 7:41 am #

I think people need to lay off the whole “they said I was a bad person because I had a credit card” schtick. Nothing said was a personal attack (beyond one person calling someone a loser for the lack of them). That’s it.

Yes, having a credit card is a wonderful thing. Yes, having a credit score is a wonderful thing. The two are not necessarily related and neither of them are important to the issue at hand, which is to ensure that each of us can avoid the resellers and the fakes on Etsy.

Oh. And to get random invites to crazy people conventions in the middle of fields that are attended by people who, as we can see in the thread, have issues with boundaries and appropriateness.
