Safety Third??

18 Sep

We received an email about “bling” pacifiers.

“I am grossed out by all the baby items containing Swarovski crystals, especially the pacifiers. Anyone who has ever been around a baby knows they put EVERYTHING in their mouth, and you are going to give them a Swarovski pacifier? the shops do not have anything in their policies regarding lead in crystals…”

When we looked around we were shocked with what we found…

Azalea- http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=30471305 “If your baby is going to use a pacifier, it might as well look good!” No safety info.

Imajewski- http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=30340808 “Fun”. No safety info.

minidiva- http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=28925320 No safety info.

Badabling- http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=27552543 states that rhinestones can detach and is for novelty and not real use but wonders why suitable age and quality are factors then.

SophiaBellaDesigns- http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25093927 doesn’t want you sending baby to bed with it.

LittleLyddies- http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=30246634 states her crystals will NOT come off. Hmmm…

BlingItOnByNancy- http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=29459355 “Please note that the crystals can detach from the product.” For display only. Then why does she give details to sterilize the teat?

It all seems very wishy washy. Boooo- safety third.

We have posted it here and at our Blogger home.

As a parent of a 7 month old, I can’t believe anyone would be dumb enough to give this to a child! So it makes me wonder how many of these are actually being purchased? Maybe these sellers will realize they’re not going to be a best selling item (because they are a SAFETY HAZARD!!!!!!) and remove them from their shops- before someone gets hurt.

I don’t mean to be rude as I argee I have a three year old little boy and I would never give him a blinged pacifer/dummie however I do have and make them as keepsake items.
I also advertise that they are intended for this purpose and that if the parents choose to use its there descison not what I intended and that they are also only suitable for hand washing.
What concerns me is everyone is blaiming the people that make them (they may in fact also be intending them for keepsakes as am I) when in fact its the parents that give them to children that must be out of there minds and irresponsible.
    kind regrads

isn’t this why the CPSIA was actually created?

Blinged out paci’s have been recalled in 2007. See the CPSC notice here: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtml07/07254.html

All sellers out there still making these should take heed. Continuing to sell these for any purpose is incredibly foolhardy, with or without a ridiculous disclaimer – which some of the sellers have now added (and copied from each other.) “CUSTOMER AGGREES (sic) THAT THESE PRODUCTS ARE NOVELTY ITEMS FOR DISPLAY ONLY AND ARE NOT INTENDED FOR USE BY INFANTS,TODDLERS,OR CHILDREN OF ANY AGE.CUSTOMER ACKNOWLEDGES THAT RHINESTONES,CRYTALS (sic) ,AND OTHER DECORATIONS ON BLING PRODUCTS MAY DETACH FROM PRODUCTS AND POSE A CHOKING RISK OR MAY BE HAZARDOUS IF SWALLOWED.CUSTOMER AGREES THAT USE OF THE SERVICE IS ENTIRELY AT CUSTOMER’S OWN RISK.”

    Hey! You’re stealing my by-line! http://safetythird.etsy.com

of course, we all know that the pacifiers are intended for candy ravers, not real babies. Still, a baby momma might buy one. They should add the disclaimer: FOR ADULT USE ONLY!

All of you people who sit here and type all this trash to somebody is who is simply trying to do something they love to do and make a lil cash is pathetic. you LOSERS have no life and decide to tear other people down so you can feel better about yourselves. i mean cmon i’m sorry you retards we’rent loved when you were children, it sucks for you cuz i was, but that doesnt mean you should talk trash about something somebody is selling. i’m sorry that you losers didnt think of something as genius and simple as that, that lady is probablly making more money on the side than any of you do working at mcdonalds for the all of your life saying, ” would you like fries with that?”. If you don’t like it, then dont buy it! Wow you lazy people should stop eating cheetos all day evryday and gaining 30 pounds and do something more productive in your life. All of you are pathetic, and if i ever saw any of you in person i would throw literal poop in your face.
