Lady Gaga will get you on the FP too…

3 Nov

Check out the first item in this admin FP:
http://www.craftcult.com/vault_list.php?list=6233

Here’s the closed thread about it:
http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=6325575

Apparently it wasn’t the first time it was on the FP either! Argh!

What do you think of listings using a commercial photo which then have the seller then showing their “copy” of what you will get?? The shop http://www.etsy.com/shop/blacksatinshoes has quite a few celebrity pics.

    Unbelievable.

    Etsy is a f*ckn’ joke.

It’s completely ridiculous that they close a thread telling users to flag the item.

Admin saw it, and should know their own rules, before putting it on the front page many times.

What’s more mindbaffeling is the predictable users jumping on the thread saying “flag and move on”.
    I don’t know which is more irritating/stupid.

Obviously the flagging didn’t work when admin repeatedly puts it on the FP.

This is another seller, then, who copies the work of others? And she used a photo, taken by someone else, of the original hairbow as her main photo?

So on Etsy copying, shilling, tag abuse, and reselling can help you get front page exposure.

The only way she should be using that photo is if she 1) has permission AND 2) Lady Gaga is wearing her design in it.

When I went to her shop I saw 2 photos also that raised flags. Purple Guinea Feather Handband . PR Picture of Milla Jovavich and description at bottom stated, ” As worn by Milla Jovovich.”

Another photo Natural Grouse Feather Headband professional photograph of Jessica Alba with the description again at the bottom , ” Jessica Alba owns this one!”

I would bet anything that she saw these pictures and copied the designs. Honest to God, why do sellers attempt to create items when they themselves aren’t creative! ugh

  6. Kristen November 3, 2009 at 1:10 pm #

and she sells Hello Kitty too

  7. Life During Wartime November 3, 2009 at 2:14 pm #

…I saw Disney (Snow White) and Barbie, too.

Also I googled “Who made Milla Jovovich feather headband. ”

Guess whose name popped up first? Blacksatinshoes.

Did she make it for Milla? No

    I found this site- http://www.plumashop.com/

They have pics of Milla and Jessica (I think… I don’t really know celebs) on their press page- http://www.plumashop.com/press.shtml

NO WAY! bought from another etsy seller and is reselling it?
I hate the jokers who run this site.
THEY ARE FUCKING WITH SELLERS ON PURPOSE because nobody can be this slack and still draw a salary.

I actually messaged her because I was impressed that jessica alba possibly bought a headband from her. because she WROTE as worn by jessica alba, which to me means, JESSICA ALBA wore it. not jessica alba wore a headband LIKE this one that I just happened to copy and then used her picture on my etsy.
She replied and let me know that she actually didn’t make jessica albas but that hers was the same.

Etsy really hates us, don’t they.

I really need to get my butt out of there.

    What’s about this shop???
she bought items from others shop (you can see in her feedbacks), they are vintage but I think maybe she could take her own pictures instead using the pictures from the original shop, NO?

I just checked out the imyourpresent shop and cherryblossomgirlx is even using her pictures. WTF? Does she really think that Kelly at imyourpresent isn’t going to find out?? I flagged the listings. Has anyone convo’d Kelly at imyourpresent?

    This shop looks familiar, no?

I couldn’t believe that either when I saw it. And then I had to bang my head repeatedly against desk when I saw ADMIN had picked that treasury. You have GOT to be kidding me. LAME LAME LAME.

  17. LAAAAAAAAAAME November 4, 2009 at 7:10 am #

Oh, and I guarantee that seller did not make those feather headbands either with the “painstakingly cut out” feathers. Hahahahaha!! I see those feather pads pre-made ALL the time in craft stores etc. All she had to do was slap it on a headband with some glue. Which I don’t object to, but please don’t try to tell me that you “painstakingly cut out” all the feathers. LOLLOLLOL.

This kind of thing just pisses me off.

Using a celebrity photo as your first pic is just plain wrong.

Lying about the fact that you make these items for celebrities is even more wrong.

Lying about making the items in the first place is wrong (even though it’s kind of par for the course at etsy).

But for etsy to use these images on the front page????

WTF are they thinking? Who are these idiots anyways? I know they’re a “venue” but they have rules about what can be listed. Grrrr.

  19. JK November 4, 2009 at 8:37 am #

Etsy seems to only be a ‘venue’ when it suits them.

  20. MadeByM**** November 4, 2009 at 10:00 am #

Maybe they didn’t know it was a celebrity? Maybe they don’t watch TV? Maybe they were too busy picking out next year’s Halloween costume?

    duh……….

  21. Kristen November 4, 2009 at 1:25 pm #

    JK says
Etsy seems to only be a ‘venue’ when it suits them.

    ____

so true. Etsy’s inconsistancy is really troubling

  22. Max November 4, 2009 at 8:24 pm #

I can almost buy the notion that the reseller problem is too big for Admin to handle. Not because I think it’s unmanageable, but because I think Admin’s mental capacity to think of solutions, and their utter lack of work ethic makes the reseller problem too big for them.

But putting resellers, blatant copiers, and copyright/trademark violators – in addition to all the TOU breakers – on the Front Page, in the Storque, Finds, and Gift Guides, well that’s just plain not giving a shit about anything at all.

If Etsy can’t even care enough about checking the 12 items they put on the front page, I can’t care enough to browse and spend my money there. What, 10 seconds each, or 2 minutes of time to check them out is too much?

  23. youguysuck November 20, 2009 at 7:08 pm #

you guys are retarted. kelly from imyourpresent already knows about the reselling. infact, she’s the one who tells them to resell it! & obviously the etsy shops who use celeb photos need a lot of publicity for their shop. No wonder Admin doesn’t let you guys talk about this shit!
