Bootlegs Even?? Seriously??

10 Nov

I just found this outrageous shop:

Not only does he sell a lot of commercial jewelry at ridiculously low prices, such as this piece:

But also various bootleg CDs like this one:

And a bunch of other crap that belongs at a yard sale, for example:

15 years is not vintage! This shop needs a serious clean up.

This shop is something right out of a flea market. I can hear the vendors from Englishtown right now: ‘take a look. don’t be shy. don’t you know what the Bible says about shyness?’

Some of the items look like they’re okay as supplies (and need to be listed that way), but the bootlegs. newer collectibles, and just stuff, belong on one of the ‘antiques’ venues.

Bootlegs don’t belong on etsy. I strongly encourage everyone who sees a bootleg concert CD on etsy to report it to the band in question.

I think many bands would be very, very interested in seeing that.

Ditto Chantelle and Michelle and I’ll call your Blegh and raise it to MEH !

(PS Janice Joplin honored in Cleveland Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for a week! Rock on Bobby McGee! )

Since my husband does lapidary, this shop is probably buying the pendants pre-made/commercially produced from our favorite Asian countries. There’s no way in he** that this seller can sell at those prices if they themself did the work (except maybe buy in bulk and GLUE). And mineral specimans as supplies? Highly unlikely. Mineral specimans are just that, to display as is. He’s reselling!

Metallica LOVES bootlegs. I’ve often heard Lars speak fondly of it.

According to the official band website, this is a big no-no. Their rules regarding copyrights and trademarks are spelled out quite clearly in an easy to find location. The email address to write in regarding this (specifically Metallica – other bands will need to be contacted individually) is

Contacting Metallica management is probably the best way to get this resolved. They are not fans of downloading, filesharing, nor are they fans of selling bootlegs without express permission. They tend to send teams of lawyers to yell first and ask questions later.

I would *love* to see Etsy come up against their lawyers. Truly. They’d go rabid if the website admin didn’t keep on top of keeping everything Metallica-free.

The shop has been emptied out! It still exists, but it is completely empty.

This one, however, not so much.

Metallica will have his ass for that bootleg stuff. Weren’t they the ones who were against free downloads of their music and stuff like that too?

Metallica has historically had huge sticks up their ass about downloads and whatnot. Specifically Lars.

If anyone could put the fear of trademark and copyright infringement into Etsy, it’d be their lawyers.
