Leather Goods, Dog Figurines & A Non-Existent Coat

12 Nov

Two of them sell the same leather goods. One is in San Fran, one in Bangkok. The dog figurines and one set of salt and pepper shakers is also available on Ebay. It looks a bit suspicious.

From the eBay profile:
I’m MadamePOmm. I design, create and sculpt ceramic work with 13 of my (human) friends and 8 of my (dog) friends; 4 Rottweilers, 2 Golden Retrievers, 1 Bull Terrier, and another crossbreed Terrier (next time I will show you their picture).
You might have seen our ceramic under brandname “Blue Witch”. or never heard about them before. But today you have already known them, haven’t you? Now, I would like to tell you a story about us and our works….

There are more blogs linked to this one with the same merchandise. As far as I looked the blogs only contain photos and descriptions of merchandise. No personal stories, etc.

And where did I see the seller the first time? On the front page!

The featured shop has the usual suspect – a long stock number:
Luxurious sweetie couple doll salt pepper shaker/topper cake SH M0006
This item was on the front page:

“ok, so the truth is that i just keep this listing in my shop so that it doesnt look so empty all the time. The coat is gone, suzanne is gone – i dont mean to dangle this in front of you….just trying to keep my shop fluffed up. SO, since i answer 10 emails every day about this listing, i thought i should say it officially – this coat is not available….sorry!”

How can you have something up “for sale” that doesn’t even exist!

  2. Lu November 12, 2009 at 12:25 pm #

What now? A listing of a coat that it’s not for sale? Yes. Etsy search it’s not enough clogged up, we need non-existent items listed up. and she doesn’t even made them to order any more. Too busy, but she need to keep the “fluff” in her shop. I know where I want to put her fluff. And shame on etsy fro reading the listing end including this in the storque while other deserving people are left out with plenty available items!

Ridiculous. That coat listing needs to *go*, and the seller needs a reprimand for letting her ‘fluff’ help in the clogging up of search results.

Heh, I wish I was a hacker and knew how to replace the photo of the coat with one of Maria wearing her dollar embellished Halloween trash bag. The Etsy staff takes another dump on the concept of integrity.

Concerning the multi-shop exporter from Thailand… making ceramics from commercial molds is considered okay on Etsy. Is the concern that they are not making the ceramics, only painting them — that would be handmade, right? Or that they are not clear about disclosing their other shops? Dunno about the leather goods.

What do you guys think of these mineral specimens? Listed as handmade- seller says they are “hand mounted” in the box. Does squishing an as found crystal onto styrofoam with clay putty constitute handmade?

Well shoot! I had the most beautiful piece of jewelry that sold last year. You would have loved it. If you want to see it just go to my shop. It is still listed. It is also in the gift guide and on several new treasuries. Everyone loved it. Well, better luck next time. Oh, you’ll still see it often. I renew it every day.

Did anyone notice that her reserved coats (that sit in the showcase spot on her page) were added in early October and early September? I’m guessing that they are not for sale either.

The coat thing pisses me off! Etsy admin emailed me and told me to remove a listing of one of my shoes because the item was at a gallery for a few months and not *available* at the time. How can something be featured in the STORQUE and not be available? This kinda crap is what makes Etsy a big punching bag in the forums. Ditch the coat!

I don’t know what to think about the Bangkok journal/figurine/keychain/salt&pepper/weddingtopper seller/s. Is making things with 13 friends and 8 dogs a collective? Why is one shop in San Fran rather than Thailand then? I don’t think I have enough patience for that one today.

It looks to me like it is a manufacturing business, with several employees, who is using several Etsy shops (and eBay) to distribute their products.

Someone in Bangkok and someone in San Francisco is selling identical “handmade” leather goods.

In their blog they provide the links to four Etsy shops and one eBay shop. NuuDee and MuddyDevi sell the dog figurines, JamesJournal and DeviJournal sell the leather goods. GoodyDevi sells ceramic salt shakers/cake toppers and wire card holders. It appears that all these Etsy shops belong to/sell the products of bluewitchceramics.com

They write this about their company on their website:
“Blue Witch Ceramics Inc. is a family owned company committed to bringing unique hand crafted collectible pieces of art work into your homes. Founded in 2007 by Art Schuller and sister in-law Pomm Bunyakhet (Madame Pomm)

Madame Pomm, master artist, and dog lover, continues to bring to all dog lovers unique ceramic art pieces that will not be found in the mass merchandise stores. Madame Pomm started making doggy mugs in the year 2000, and have expanded into other animals, musical instruments and recently added Salt & Pepper Shakers and Note Holders. With the help of her artist friends, she has finally been able to make enough inventory to sell to the thousands of people whose been waiting for their favorite dog to be available.”

    Sell to thousands? Handmade?

That would seriously be the greatest. thing. ever.

haha. I think that’s a chicken foot. Mmmmm mmmm good…… kidding! Some people love them though.

This is in the holiday accessories gift guide, its “vintage”
    http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=34227597

And this *was* sold already online

The gold mini in this collection is also in the holiday GG, but the pics look very catalog, profile says items are worn by celebs. I bet.

OMG, those journals! I was actually going to use one in a treasury, because I thought the flowered ones were gorgeous, but then I saw the dude lives in San Fran and the item ships from Thailand. Who knew resellers sold journals? I thought the book trade, at least, was untainted. Sad.

  17. Laura November 13, 2009 at 8:47 am #

Where did my other post? I thought I posted this:

    In the gift guides:
    http://www1.shopping.com/xPO-Minnetonka-Women-s-Minnetonka-Calf-Hi-Fringe-boots-Suede

    http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=31181480

And the boots are less expensive on the shopping site, and NOT vintage!

  18. jenjasmine November 13, 2009 at 2:57 pm #

The coat person changed her listing to “reserved”!!

    What a cheater!

It makes me sad, cause I think her work is cool, but come on.

  19. anonymous November 14, 2009 at 12:53 am #

All of the coats in that shop are “reserved” aka not for sale. And they all have links to her website for fee avoidance. Great pick for your Storque article, Etsy!
