Here is one of the resellers recently targeted by the sock who left negative feedback.

She whined in the forum thread that she just had a few supplies mistagged & claimed to make her rings.

here are some interesting identical photos:

Note her “handmade” rings are only available in one size, yet she sometimes has sold multiples. If they are handmade, can’t you make more than one size per type of stone?

also, some of the pendants are available from the same eBay sellers, & she hasn’t changed the tags to supplies yet as she promised she would. (Although a silver druzy one has been removed since the call out)

I saw her post in the forums a couple of weeks ago, and when I visited her shop, I wondered why she had been so bold as to appear in the forums…much less start a post which would expose her reseller status in a heartbeat.

I flagged one of her rings due to the fact that no way in hell could someone spend time to make a bezel for a stone, and set it in a ring with extra twined wire for a mere $9.99, unless they were being paid only pennies per piece in a sweat shop….well guess what, that’s exactly what they are…sweatshop made, and it sure isn’t her who is laboring to make them.

Yeah, they’re in the business of keeping the integrity of ETSY, since clearly the honor system fails, and admins do very little to stop this. They say flag, we flag, it takes weeks, if anything happens at all. Seems that the only time crap that doesn’t belong on ETSY is removed is when it’s called out publicly.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t like my wares being buried by shitty mass produced items that DON’T BELONG ON THE EFFING SITE TO BEGIN WITH.

  4. Life During Wartime December 15, 2009 at 12:39 am #

    Cathy: pot, kettle, black.

Seriously, if you have an Etsy shop, reseller shops are messing with your business. Customers feel ripped off and angry when they discover they bought some mass produced stuff when a seller led them to believe it was handmade by them. People talk –those who, as you say, have a life– and they will warn their family and friends about how Etsy is a sham. Not good for a seller of any type of Etsy-appropriate wares, even if resellers aren’t directly competing with you.

  5. MadeByM**** December 15, 2009 at 6:29 am #

It’s so obvious this is all mass-produced and/or wholesale bought………..my husband does lapidary and he and his lapidary friends say that all comes from overseas, especially with those prices.

BITCH stands for: “Babe in Total Charge Of Herself”……..thanks for the compliment, Cathy!

DreamboatAnnies needs to stick to FeeBay! If she sold the cabochons only as supplies, it would be Etsy legal…..but then the cabs made by the actual lapidariasts on there get screwed because buyers don’t understand all what goes into cutting and polishing of stones!

This lapidariast my husband knows in person……..now he’s the real thing……….notice the difference in prices?

I like how “Do you bitches have a life” ends with an exclamation point rather than a question mark. It somehow works, in a rather Calvin-and-Hobbes sort of way.
    Welcome back, Vonlady–err, Cathy…

Wow. Those stones at stones in motion are beautiful… I’m gonna heart that shop!!

I flagged three thing with links. I’m sure we’ll see them again!

    LOL @ “VONdom”!!

  15. Yada Yada December 15, 2009 at 2:17 pm #

    It’s actually:
BITCH: Being in total control honey.

Technically, Made by M, yours spells BITCOH. Which sounds like a Chinese import company that sells lapis to Etsy resellers.

  16. Thud December 15, 2009 at 3:26 pm #

I understand Beehive is legit~ they have a lot of wholesale accounts, but they are the original sellers.

  17. janicejoplin2 December 15, 2009 at 3:45 pm #

Cathy..uh honey..I think you wanted the other blog called Etsy Bitches they are located down the hall. Oh shoot we all make mistakes.

  20. jenn December 15, 2009 at 7:34 pm #

    Here’s yet another reseller… flea marketer… closet-cleaner:

  21. Angel December 15, 2009 at 7:46 pm #

Beehive designs all their own products, they are the wholesale providers.

This discussion was had recently in another comment section.

  22. CMOM December 16, 2009 at 7:44 am #

She has a lot of legit stuff but not those girls dresses and coats!

Also questionable – she has several ceramic pieces that are tagged as handmade but that’s doubtful.

  23. MadeByM**** December 16, 2009 at 9:02 am #

I “googled” it because I couldn’t remember the exact phrase for it! Either way, it’s a compliment to be called a BITCH!!

  24. Michelle December 16, 2009 at 6:08 pm #

    2009 Hermes Birkin bag anyone?

  25. GernBlansVON December 17, 2009 at 3:34 am #

ROFLMAO on the Birkin Bag….so fake. $80 shipping? Is she driving it herself?

  26. JajieBo December 17, 2009 at 10:32 am #

This shop was featured as a call-out a while back, but she’s still going strong with rampant reselling (mostly CRAP from dollar stores).

    Flag away, friends!

  27. Christine December 17, 2009 at 5:42 pm #

89 sales? I had to go look at what she has sold. Why do people buy this kind of stuff on Etsy? If you want cheap crap go to the dollar store and get some. Don’t order on Etsy and pay for shipping. I don’t get it. Does someone go on Etsy looking for something handmade and buy this instead? I’m so confused and discouraged.

  28. Knitpicker December 17, 2009 at 11:12 pm #

This is not related at all, but I had to post this somewhere:

In a couple of publications lately (Teen Vogue, New York Times) the woman from http://www.etsy.com/shop/Yokoo writes that she “knits”. But guess what! All her items are crocheted. Any knitter or crocheter can see this clearly just by looking at her photos. However, she’s conveniently leaves “crochet” or “knitting” out of her tags in her shop and is vague about what technique is used for the items in her shop. However, she insists on saying that she “knits” in interviews – never is the word “crochet” used. Is she trying to give the idea that she knits her items (when she so clearly does NOT), because she’s afraid that people will think that crocheting isn’t cool or isn’t as hard as knitting? (I both knit and crochet, and gotta say it: Knitting is a little harder because you use both hands to work the needles. No offense to crocheters intended; just my own personal experience.) I can’t help feeling that she is being deceptive by saying in her interviews that she “knits” when she’s really crocheting.

  29. epic fail December 18, 2009 at 7:53 am #

what an idiot. she irritates me to no end, and her “featured seller” interview was so bloody pretentious i wanted to sick up my lunch.

this listing, the second photo, she has a crochet needle stuck in the hat.

  30. JajieBo December 18, 2009 at 11:01 am #

Another from “itsadoggiedogworld”: listing is for a “Pile of soap”. Price is only for one bar, obviously, but it’s reeealllly misleading.

Regarding Yokoo’s calling it “knitting”: I think you’re right, knitpicker. I only crochet, and I think “knitting” just sounds fancier. It’s obvious that she only knows how to crochet circle scarves, which is just about the easiest thing to do. Succesfully charging outrageous amounts for them… I’ll never understand how she does it. Nor do I really care to.

  31. CMOM December 18, 2009 at 11:14 am #

I agree – crocheting is MUCH easier than knitting especially when you use a huge crochet hook like Yokoo. I just read the interview and it seems to me like she didn’t answer the questions that were asked in some cases.

  32. angryone December 18, 2009 at 3:22 pm #

Did anyone read the NYTimes article about Etsy and featuring Yokoo? It’s in the latest post from Etsy Bitch. It mentions that she made over $120,000 in sales this year!!!

Now that’s a whole lot of moola, and it looks like being a favorite of the Admins really paid off for her! Whether it’s knitting or crocheting, that is nothing to sneeze at, for sure.

  33. Cathy December 18, 2009 at 4:42 pm #

For every 100 you flag or ‘ call out on Etsy” 400 more will join every day. That is why I think you are so stupid to spend so much time calling out and flagging. Resellers are like ants for every 70 you kill off 200 more are around the corner. Spend your time doing something more constructive. If buyers want to buy what is NOT handmade, let them cause if they are stupid enough to not know handmade from reseller products, then that is there own fault.

  34. Bedazzled VONdom December 18, 2009 at 5:16 pm #

Is “Cathy” VONLADY on downers or is she the whackadoodle with the Sharpie eyebrows and the burlap banners or is she some other (reselling) dolt of a nutcase whose insane performance in the comments on this blog escapes my memory at the moment?

  35. pussdaddy December 19, 2009 at 12:32 am #

Enough is enough! I have had it with these motherf’ing snakes on this motherf’ing Etsy!

  36. JajieBo December 19, 2009 at 1:15 pm #

Sigh…. Cathy, I’m inclined to agree with you on that point. Etsy obviously doesn’t give a damn, so we do we continue to support them? : (

  37. Nobody Understands My Pain Either December 21, 2009 at 12:53 pm #

I made the decision this past week to move my handmade and vintage items off of Etsy and over to Big Cartel. I don’t feel comfortable being part of a marketplace that has grown too big to keep up with their own mission statement.

Etsy is a really great idea and if they ever figure out a way to deal with the reseller issue and make it once again a truly handmade site, I’ll be back. I’ve never had a single issue with them beyond the resellers.

  38. JajieBo December 24, 2009 at 7:02 am #

I’m on the verge of leaving Etsy as a seller, as well. I just haven’t taken the time to really check out any other sites yet. I’ll probably be researching a few after the holidays.
