Don’t know if all of Nana’s Nut Hut is vintage or not, but she needs to at least mark it vintage (but I’m guessing she’s just cleaning out her closets instead of sticking them on Fee-bay or Craig’s list)!

  2. kitten January 20, 2010 at 12:13 pm #

The toys look vintage (at least the couple I looked at)… the purses, not so much.

  3. Lu January 20, 2010 at 12:14 pm #

and Nana has been around for almost 6 months??? She’s definitely cleaning her garage, sorry but she doesn’t really fit in Etsy.
And the brabery for the treasury and the FP…..ah that’s what I have to do to get there??? And I’m fighting with my pictures for almost 2 years now….silly me!!! Gonna go puke!

  4. Itstinks January 20, 2010 at 12:30 pm #

Nana’s shop makes me feel sick. While some of her items may be vintage, most are just garage sale items.
The only good thing about it is that at least she’s charging garage sale prices for her junk instead of marking it way up like alot of the resellers do.

  5. santa ana January 20, 2010 at 1:14 pm #

    “Nuts & Dolts”….heheee.

The treasury thing makes me sick. That cannot possibly be kosher, can it? I hope Etsy just goes back to all Admin-curated treasuries, if this is how it’s gonna be for those of us who attempt to actually make them with nothing but the best intentions. This has to be stopped by Etsy admin. Etsy, pls don’t put this shop on the fp.

Nana has mostly vintage, it seems. Except for all of those crap purses. Get rid of those, Nana! Take them to eBay where they belong.

  6. RocksInMySocks January 20, 2010 at 1:16 pm #

Gild’s books are beautiful but I find her methods totally vile. Nana’sNutHut is using Etsy as her own personal garage sale, for sure. There may be a couple of vintage items there but that’s it.

    From her profile:
“This Nana’s only wish before I leave this earth is to take my 3 Grandkids on a Disney Cruise so all profits made from my sells will go into my “Dream of a Lifetime” Fund. So Thank You to all who may have or will have a helping hand in making my “Dream of a Lifetime” come true one day.”

Sorry Nana, you’re going have to find another way to finance floating on a boat with Mickey.

As an aside, I know this may seem mean, but since when did “sells” become a noun? I see this CONSTANTLY on Etsy! “SALES” is a noun and are what you have when customers purchase items from your shop. “SELLS” is a verb and is what the salesman at the car lot tries to do. Unless English is your second language, you should have learned this in elementary school. I have friends from Europe that speak better English than some of the Americans I know.

  7. Em January 20, 2010 at 1:36 pm #

That whole “Disney trip for the grandkids” thing smells like bullshit to me. How are you going to finance a trip like that with a garage sale? Sounds like she’s trying to gain sympathy sales by appearing like the poor old grandma who’s just trying to make her grandkids happy. Makes me sick.

As for gildbooks, I agree their books are beautiful, but the giveaway thing is just tacky. Reeks of desperation to me.

  8. MadeByM**** January 20, 2010 at 1:52 pm #

Maybe what needs to be done for th FP is to “buy” your spot (like you do in the gift guides) instead of getting there by treasuries or admin picks. Etsy is making money AND more sellers will get a chance to get on the FP. And then, put a restriction in place that you can only buy a spot once a month or something. Admins can still come up with themes, like color, holiday, subject matter, etc., and then people sign up and pay for it. Of course, they will still be choosing which ones go there, but at least no one can bitch about favoritism, etc., because they had to pay a fee to be on the FP. Just like in the newspaper or a magazine, you pay for your advertising and the more you pay, the more prominent the ad is! Just an idea…………

  9. Steamedpunk January 20, 2010 at 2:26 pm #

Regardless of what kind of trip nana wants to go on, her sorry ass shop needs to be off Etsy. She sucks.
    Who cares?

  10. notvintage January 20, 2010 at 3:01 pm #

The book person took the bribery off her profile and created a listing to do it instead~~ either this seller has no ethics or is so desperate that she thinks bribery is fine if she wants a sale.
I am disgusted with this particular seller, because they KNOW what they are doing is flagrant bribery.
The first probably just doesn’t know any better and just needs to be told politely what she is doing wrong.

Some people need a nasty callout, others NOT SO MUCH. let’s see the resellers, sweatshop profiteers, and liars first.
    I love you guys, but.

  11. JonhCocktoasten January 20, 2010 at 3:17 pm #

Nana has a ton of stuff that is not more than 20 years old.

    Check out this hot mess:

  12. JonhCocktoasten January 20, 2010 at 3:37 pm #

Oh FFS someone please buy those reserved listings.

  13. Crazy Cat Lady January 20, 2010 at 4:35 pm #

Those purses of Nana’s make me sick. Especially the “Dooney” purse for $6…erm, the FAKE “Dooney” for $6. And her “before I leave this earth…” is complete bullshit…don’t play me like that granny.

  14. Etsy Seller January 20, 2010 at 4:46 pm #

Check out the ads on the craftopolis site. The bookseller has paid for an ad for a free giveaway if you put her shop in your treasury.

  15. Etsy Seller January 20, 2010 at 4:47 pm #

    Oops, forgot the link

  16. JK January 20, 2010 at 6:19 pm #

Rocks, the ‘sells’ thing drives me mental! Do people just not read enough (or even hear others talk) to know that it’s completely incorrect?

  17. RocksInMySocks January 20, 2010 at 7:09 pm #

Nah, they’re just trying to get on that big red boat.

  18. woody January 20, 2010 at 7:28 pm #

and what about the 8 treasuries that they have been in. You have to wonder about the people who bought into this shit.

  19. Liz January 20, 2010 at 7:40 pm #

Wow…if I knew that bribery could get me to the front page I would stop trying to improve my shop and networking and just start offering free stuff….that would be so much eaiser!!

  20. KR January 20, 2010 at 7:53 pm #

Are we now critiquing shops? So if a shop doesn’t “fit in” (what are the fitting in guidelines?) we all snicker? Blurry, wrinkled grama shops aren’t allowed? Since when? Most of nana’s junk looks vintage under etsy’s 20 year rule- most, not all. Maybe nana isn’t one of the cool kids but- after cleaning out the nonvintage items- doesn’t she have just as much right to be on etsy as anyone else?

That bookbinder’s plea is so pathetic and desperate. It really reflects badly on her store’s image….and her stuff is beautiful! The money she’s spending to get on the FP is only eating into whatever sales profit she’d make by being featured there.

  21. Crazy Cat Lady January 20, 2010 at 9:58 pm #

KR, knockoffs are illegal, “vintage” or not. Selling a knockoff Dooney (which she is) is illegal. Her purses do NOT look 20+ years old – especially when she says each one is “used once”. I don’t know about you, but I have never used a $30 purse once then put it in my closet for 20+ years only to take it out to sell on the internet.

Some of the styles she’s selling are very recent – the Nine&Co. style looks recent, the green bag with the pockets in the front is also a recent style (it actually looks like a knockoff of a designer bag I got in 2006).

Her toys look vintage – sell those. The purses make me ill.

  22. Angel January 20, 2010 at 10:05 pm #

I think the general gist of this is if Nana removes all her non-vintage and knock-offs, she’d actually fit in.

In the ideal Etsy, of course. The one not saturated with resellers at 4 pm EST every Friday.

  23. pussdaddy January 21, 2010 at 1:41 am #

I used to make lots of treasuries and I would just laugh at something like this and I sure as heck wouldn’t respond to it or put them in one.

  24. JonhCocktoasten January 21, 2010 at 4:42 am #

I have a feeling Nana knows the rules and just doesn’t care. After all, other people are doing it, so it must be ok.

If they show up here as a reseller, I’d say that critiquing their shop is just what they deserve. It doesn’t matter if they call themselves Nana or Shy Little Kitten, what they’re doing hurts legitimate sellers. The majority of the items in Nana’s shop are not vintage and they shouldn’t be allowed to be sold. The ones that are should remain.

No one called her shop blurry and wrinkled but you. No one criticized her photos. I pointed out her incorrect use of the word “sells” which appears on her profile page. I couldn’t care less what she sells or what her shop looks like as long as she abides by the same rules that I have to abide by.

  26. notvintage January 21, 2010 at 6:34 am #

    Please check out this shop.
I tried telling her that her items were in the handmade search, but she got abusive and her tags are all wrong. She said she has been selling on Etsy for three years and “knows what she is doing”. She doesn’t.

maybe someone else can get through to her. I know she isn’t a typical mass-produced reseller, but maybe someone who knows her can get through to her. I tried to be diplomatic and got a slap for it.

I really do believe in contacting someone whose category is off, and not calling them out, but she needs some help.

  27. Kirsi January 21, 2010 at 6:58 am #

“…She said she has been selling on Etsy for three years and “knows what she is doing”…”

It says she joined this January. No other account disclosed anywhere… The “vintage-style wall hangings” are not made by them (stated on the listing), and I suppose they’re not vintage (because of the title). The baby booties are not handmade, unless they added the flowers. This one says that if you need the name shown, the listing is ready to ship, but then it says that the price is by letter… Several of the handmade items have descriptions that makes me think they haven’t made them, fluffy reseller jargon. If she knows what she’s doing, she’s breaking the rules (*all* the rules) on purpose.

But I don’t know them, and will definitely not contact them. I hope they have that Google-account where they can see where the views come from 🙂

  28. jenn January 21, 2010 at 7:00 am #

Hmm, notvintage, the first item I clicked on in that shop said “not made by us” and it wasn’t vintage, just vintage-inspired.
So maybe etsy (if they care, haha) can get somewhere with them.

  29. suspicious crab January 21, 2010 at 7:08 am #

“Blurry, wrinkled grama shops aren’t allowed?”

No one said a thing about her photos….lol. You’re the only one who mentioned them. As I said, I have no problem at all with her shop except for those handbags. Those are NOT 20 years old and don’t belong on Etsy.

  30. notvintage January 21, 2010 at 7:50 am #

I didn’t look at her shop very carefully, after she yelled at me and told me she had three years’ experience and made “over $10,000”.
I figured, too stupid to live and didn’t bother checking any of her other stuff.
She def deserves a flag, but it’s not worth the effort to flag. I gave up on that longggg ago. Like spitting in the wind.

  33. uh-huh January 21, 2010 at 10:06 am #

Haha! thanks for posting the link, I remember when the bride made a stink about the whole thing…. I thought it was in the Etsy forums but I can’t find it now. Anyway, glad I finally got to see the result of the whole fiasco. Sheesh.

  34. Sarah January 21, 2010 at 10:31 am #

Yeah, that was from a long while ago. I can’t remember where I heard it, but she spilled all that drama all over a bride blog. Pretty icky, all around.

As for Gild’s bribery… I think the listing has been removed, it’s just a promo on their website now. Participate at your own risk, I suppose. I feel like they’re grossly misleading Treasury makers.

  35. Life During Wartime January 21, 2010 at 1:08 pm #

Using sell as a noun is a dialect used by some cultural groups in the southeastern corner of the US…actually living anywhere, but having roots in that region. It kinda goes along with using apostrophes for plurals. Or writing ‘could of’ for ‘could have’. These are folks who don’t read except in case of emergency.

A nana in that culture can be as young as 30ish (maternal nana). So just because a seller is a granny doesn’t mean she’s old or wrinkled. The vibe I get from Nana is that I am older than she. Some of the stuff in her shop looks like it could be vintage, but a lot looks like brand new fakes she bought to sell (or as she would write, sale) at swap meets.

I pasted the link and now the vid shows up -_-

    Thanks pixel!

Darn, I wish the bride would of won something.

  40. woody January 21, 2010 at 8:34 pm #

Tonight, in a chatroom, doggiebiskit came in and told us that anyone who bought from them would be included in a treasury. Not a bad way to make sales ( or sells for that matter ) if people go for it. Apparently she hit all the rooms and made the same offer and was frozen out of all of them.

  41. JonhCocktoasten January 22, 2010 at 4:47 am #

    Desparation is so unattractive.

  42. CMOM January 22, 2010 at 5:49 am #

I really like the idea of buying a FP treasury spot… You pay the fee which is for one of your items and then the admin get to pick from all of the items to make their treasuries. Shouldn’t be too hard… I bet they only get a few thousand to look through on the first day. LOL! They better start hiring! All joking aside, I would buy a spot.

  43. JonhCocktoasten January 22, 2010 at 5:59 am #

Yeah and can you imagine the competition to get one? Its hard enough to get a showcase spot.

  44. JonhCocktoasten January 22, 2010 at 6:00 am #

Did I say showcase? I meant that other thing….its too freaking early. You all know what I mean.

  45. JK January 22, 2010 at 1:16 pm #

Life During Wartime, I live in the southeast and I’m afraid I don’t know the culture you’re talking about. Where I come from, we just call that ‘plain ignorant’.

  46. whimsiclefuckery January 22, 2010 at 3:20 pm #

I don’t see why everyone’s on Nana’s case. So what if she’s selling her old stuff – that’s what Vintage sellers do: sell people’s old stuff. Most of that looks legitimately vintage to me. Personally I think most of what I see as vintage collectibles is just someone’s used shit. Especially the old clothes.

  47. RocksInMySocks January 22, 2010 at 10:03 pm #

Well, thanks for trashing all the legitimate vintage sellers by calling their items “used shit”. Not everyone has an appreciation for vintage things, but for those of us that do, it’s an insult to have items like hers labeled as vintage when they’re just a few years old.

Etsy’s TOU say that vintage items must be at least 20 years old and those rules apply to everyone, regardless of whether you think it’s “used shit” or not. You make think her items look legitimate, but you would also happen to be wrong.

  48. notvintage January 23, 2010 at 7:31 am #

Unfortunately, ignorance of a subject doesn’t keep people from expressing their opinions about it.
Oh, well, we vintage sellers don’t market to those who don’t know, just like painters don’t market to those who can’t tell the difference between an oil painting and a watercolor painting……………..

  49. suspicious crab January 23, 2010 at 11:02 am #

Here’s the current crop of etsians who are “taking the bait” from gild books and including them in their treasuries. They’re as shady as gild books is.

  50. notvintage January 23, 2010 at 6:00 pm #

Just glad I don’t have to deal with these people in person.

  51. Lillysworkshop April 8, 2010 at 7:11 pm #

I’m pretty sure my girlfriend recently featured Gild in one of her treasuries. She didn’t know about this and just liked their journals.

I’ll let her know, doubt she’ll do it again.
