From the Inbox- 3/1

I know this is a touchy subject, but come on! After the last time this shop was called-out, it’s gotten worse.

Look at what Lucinda is selling now!

“Business Naming Through Bantering” was sold Feb. 28. Seriously, now we can sell bantering? What’s so tangible about this?

http://www.etsy.com/view_transaction.php?transaction_id=25998719

She also has this, and I thought Etsy administration said no to proofreading.

http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=35322225

A written review of your Etsy shop- what’s this? Now we can sell our opinions?

http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=39469377

And she’s still selling the brainstorming

http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=37191806

Look at this listing. She writes that she’s a professional writer and offers “proper grammar (and spelling)”, yet I spot two missing commas and rewritten isn’t hyphenated as she writes it.

http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=37685130

In her shop announcement, she writes, “Personalized discreet writing is offered for Etsy shop sections/ listings, other online sites, web landing pages, name suggestions, any customer service problem and for general writing needs.”

I thought that those allowed to sell tangible services could only do so for Etsy shop sites and not off-Etsy sites. Did this policy change?

This is such an in-you-face, since she was called out the last time. Who the hell is she that she can violate the TOS and get away with it. How can she plead ignorance when she starts forum thread after thread asking if she’s legit.

It wasn’t that long ago she wrote this apology thread for listing her violating service.

http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=6397648

If bantering, brainstorming, proofreading, and writing copy for sites other than Etsy is allowed, the flood gates will open with writers offering these services.
Why, oh why, Etsy, is Lucinda getting preferential treatment?

Well, it’s obvious from the tone of HeyMichelle’s comment locking that thread that Lucinda has the sympathy of at least one Admin.

    rut roh…

  3. cmom March 1, 2010 at 5:10 pm #

I want to convo her and say, “Is this the right room for an argument?”

  4. Watch out... March 1, 2010 at 5:16 pm #

    She’ll sue you!!!!!!!!

She is shameless and ridiculous and clearly not a professional writer and has no ethics and is no better than a reseller since she is breaking the rules, presumably because HeyMichelle is in her back pocket.

Ooopps. Now she’ll sue the interwebs because I said that.

Hey, I took english classes in high school and an english class for one semester in college! I got pretty okay grades… hey, at least I passed, right?

Can I be a proffeshunal brainstormer too? I plomises I wont make miztakes..

  6. insaneinthebrain March 1, 2010 at 5:40 pm #

this woman is a joke! and how is she getting away with these ridiculous listings she has in her shop? she is not even that much of a successful seller, how could she teach others to run their business?what degree does she have to proof read and all that crap? and what are those people actually paying for them??? and all these threads she starts to drag attention and all these people with their sympathy for her, give me a break!!

  7. Life During Wartime March 1, 2010 at 5:43 pm #

I like her ‘honest shop summary’ review for 40 bucks. Sheesh, the fact that this shop still exists is like free advice to all Etsy sellers: it’s not the quality of your products, your presentation, or your creativity. It’s who at Etsy you know and how well you blow, coupled with how much brass you have down in your pants about bending the rules. There it is, no charge.

Maybe this shop will be Featured Seller one of these weeks.

  8. insaneinthebrain March 1, 2010 at 5:53 pm #

i wanna see someone put her in a treasury. a cherry on top of a cake.

  9. Smartass March 1, 2010 at 5:59 pm #

I bet if I make a treasury full of brand new vintage shoes, copyright violations, a vintage millenium pug, professional brainstorming, and other crap like that, it would immediately be featured on the front page.

    *pig, not pug!

I think we all need to open a shop to sell bantering. No sense doing it here when we could be capitalising over at Etsy.

I hope the owner of this blog doesn’t see the financial potential and start charging us 20-cents per post.

  12. Thud March 1, 2010 at 6:23 pm #

I don’t know how she walks with the balls she must have in her pants.

    ——————–
Now stop it! You know she can’t send you a “I’m gonna contact my lawyer” blah, blah, crap message until she announces it in the forums.

You got to give the gal time to banter and brainstorm with herself and carefully craft her words with the proper grammar and spelling before she contacts you. That could take up to an hour.

  17. Em March 1, 2010 at 7:52 pm #

If I want a critique of my shop, I’ll just go to the damn forums!! There’s an entire freaking section devoted to them! This is ridiculous.

And not to be nit picky, but isn’t it ‘no holes barred’ not ‘no holds barred?’ Just another reason for me to doubt her status as a professional writer.

  18. Watch out... March 1, 2010 at 8:19 pm #

Actually it is “holds” but that doesn’t mean she isn’t working etsy shamelessly. There are plenty of her mistakes to point to.

  20. Paperika March 1, 2010 at 9:59 pm #

I just have to say that I have mixed feelings about this blog. I think you guys have WAY too much time on your hands searching and looking through all the TOU violations on Etsy. Again, you are calling out Business Letters. I think there are bigger fish to fry and I think you need to leave her alone. She is one of the nicest sellers I have known on Etsy and does NOT deserve her names to be dragged through the mud. She’s very helpful to many people, including myself and I think you would be better off to stick to the major issues like reselling and ridiculously blatant tagging issues.

  21. Watch out... March 1, 2010 at 10:02 pm #

    WTF is wrong with her?!?!?

  22. Watch out... March 1, 2010 at 10:30 pm #

She doesn’t give advice for any other reason that it gets her attention.

Has she served this blog with papers yet?

    Hahahahahahahahahaha

  23. Pickledpig March 1, 2010 at 11:07 pm #

Paperika all violations are just that – violations and as such they need to be flagged. With the time you wasted with your needless comment, you could have taken a few more fish out of the sea.

  24. ohmeohmy March 2, 2010 at 12:19 am #

    ack,

I think etsy’s biggest problem is resellers. That’s why I come to the call out blog.

  25. RocksInMySocks March 2, 2010 at 5:30 am #

Me, me, me! It’s all about me! Pay attention to me! Turn this thread into one about me!

    http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=6452690&page=6

I think she’s giving NeatThings a run for her money as official attention whore of the Etsy forums. It’s nice to see that most everyone is ignoring her pathetic attempts for attention though.

  26. WTFISAPDF March 2, 2010 at 5:30 am #

Paperika– She knows she’s in violation because the last time she was told no proofreading, etc… , but she continues to sell this stuff.

Do you think one seller should get a pass on following the rules just because she’s nice?

  27. poliwog March 2, 2010 at 5:50 am #

Maybe the TOU needs to be changed. Even the Constitution of the US is amended every now and then.

  28. WTFISAPDF March 2, 2010 at 6:20 am #

This listing cracks me up. Help finding you target market.

    http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=vt_related_3&listing_id=40509452

This is a part of the description:
“You tell me what you sell, I will devise a general set of questions you can answer that should help you determine just who your target market is – – Brain Food to help you think about who might want to buy your widgets :)”

    Brain food?

  29. Thud March 2, 2010 at 6:22 am #

“no HOLDS barred” as in wrestling… all holds allowed 🙂

“no holes barred” might be very dirty!

  30. JajieBo March 2, 2010 at 7:13 am #

HA! “No holes barred”– that’s kinky! Love it.

    WTFISAPDF Says:
Do you think one seller should get a pass on following the rules just because she’s nice?

Seriously, what the heck is going on here? Her services are not allowed under the Etsy rules, yet she continues to offer them on Etsy, with the apparent blessing of at least one Admin.

I understand that she might be nice, and her services might be really helpful to some, but they simply aren’t allowed under the current TOU.
Etsy needs to stop allowing only a certain few to sell items that are against the rules- it should be all or nothing.

No, that’s like promo lite. Most of the successful sellers will give you an honest (and private!) critique if you just convo them.

  32. notvintage March 2, 2010 at 8:33 am #

does she mean ‘banter’ or ‘barter’? she’s a bottom feeder at the least.

  33. Em March 2, 2010 at 9:06 am #

  37. uh-huh March 2, 2010 at 9:33 am #

Maybe somebody could sell some advice on how to stay in logged into one of your shops for more than 30 seconds…. amazing how fast DBL.BL can both post on same page of a thread… and notify everyone that ‘i’m posting from my other shop’

  38. lovehandmande March 2, 2010 at 9:33 am #

I actually really like her and find her helpful. However, if her shop is not allowed on Etsy, then I agree it should be closed.

I’d love to see the death match with NeatThings. NeatThings drives me insane.

  39. gifteddesigns March 2, 2010 at 9:54 am #

uh-huh…if she’s got two different browsers open, I think she can do it, but I am not sure.

  40. Voice March 2, 2010 at 9:57 am #

Lucinda, dear — you are not a professional writer, and you damn sure aren’t a professional editor or proofreader.

From your shop announcement: “Business writing help and tactful Customer Service letters for your Etsy shop or Online Business.”

Explain to me if you would why you capitalized “customer service” and “online business.” List the appropriate sections of CMOS that support your decision to capitalize these words.

Justify the choice of “re-written” over the correct form, “rewritten.” Cite the page of Webster’s on which you found an entry for “re-written.”

Solve for us the mystery of the disappearing periods at the ends of so many of your sentences.

    ***********************************

If you’re paying someone $50 an hour for rewriting services, you kinda want her to know the difference between a dictionary and her ass. Gawd.

  41. Crazy Cat Lady March 2, 2010 at 10:20 am #

Gifted, you can’t do it with two different browsers. I have two different shops, and I’ve tried being logged into both at the same time – nope. I can look at both shops with two different browsers, but I’m only logged in as one shop. Huge PITA!

Unfortunately I don’t remember to log out of one/log into the other often enough…

I was wrong, it was 10 minutes not 30 seconds.
However the shop declaration came before the important info being shared so I still call promo.

  43. PussDaddy March 2, 2010 at 11:06 am #

WTF does find a business name through bantering mean? Does that shit make any sense to you? Because it doesn’t to me. This seller is a fucking wackadoodle IMHO, she doesn’t even have any credibility anymore.

  44. PussDaddy March 2, 2010 at 11:21 am #

She is too stupid to understand that she has taken down so many of her listing that were not allowed by the rules, and has gone on to make more that are not allowed, and take them down too, so why shouldn’t she be called out? It all junks up Etsy as a site.

  47. WTFISAPDF March 2, 2010 at 12:26 pm #

Ha, ha, ha Voice. You are so right!! But you forgot all the missing and misplaced commas.

She really shouldn’t be promoting herself as a professional writer because her own improper use of grammar and punctuation are glaring, even to the undescriminating eye.

I would think if anyone would have legal recourse, it would be one of her customers, if she writes as poorly for them as she does for herself.

Did anyone else notice that she changed her shop announcement and took out the part about being able to tell a customer to get screwed without them realizing it till hours later?

Also, although many people have suggested that she list her “professional” writing credentials in her profile, the only thing that’s there is the self-published book she wrote when she was six years old.

    PUH-THET-ICK!

  50. V March 2, 2010 at 1:09 pm #

Pointless, I know, but if you use Chrome and open an Incognito window (or two, or three), you can be logged in as different accounts in whatever site.

  51. Christine March 2, 2010 at 1:10 pm #

Personally I don’t care about a shop like BusinessLetters. If someone is crazy enought to spend money on a shop critique then so be it. Me? If I want proofreading or help with wording I have people around me I can ask.

I do have a problem with the blatant resellers. And Paperika regarding your statement “I think you guys have WAY too much time on your hands searching and looking through all the TOU violations on Etsy”, it doesn’t take a lot of time to find resellers. Etsy admin does a good job of finding them and putting them in the Etsy finds and on the FP. Not much work required to see that.

  52. PussDaddy March 2, 2010 at 3:19 pm #

How hard is it to find somebody who is constantly jumping up and down while waving their hands around yelling “if you are looking for a nitwit here I am, pick me pick me!” anyway Paperika?

I’ve done it using 2 different browsers. It does work; it probably depends on which browsers you’re using.

  54. WTFISAPDF March 3, 2010 at 3:55 am #

Pussdaddy, that is priceless!! Too friggin funny!!

The sad thing is that she’s been flagged and called out, and Etsy does nothing about it.

So let’s all sell our opinions on Etsy. We could have a contest to see whose shop gets closed down first.

  55. Crazy Cat Lady March 3, 2010 at 8:40 am #

Thanks for letting me know it can be done…I use firefox which I love because of the automatic spellcheck (my 3rd grader spells better than I do!) but I guess that’s one of the things I’ll have to live with.

Another thing I don’t get – don’t know if it’s been brought up – but the $50 an hour, and she says it will take her “3 or 4 days” in one of the listings. It sounds like one of those things you’d end up seeing in people’s court with the judge yelling at you “never hire a contractor by the hour!” lol. Couldn’t she say, “I worked on it for 4 days – 2 hours a day – that will be $400” and have a case per the listing?

  56. JajieBo March 3, 2010 at 10:18 am #

Anyone who thinks it takes alot of spare time to find resellers is sorely mistaken. Look no further than the FP. I see at least one a day, and I only log into Etsy at most twice a day.

  57. RRobin March 3, 2010 at 3:53 pm #

For what this person is charging and maybe even less, you can hire a graduate student majoring in composition / rhetoric or marketing / communications to copywrite or proofread for you. Contact the career services or English department of your local college.

  58. RRobin March 3, 2010 at 3:59 pm #

For $50, you can buy 10 hours of a professional writer’s time:

    http://www.hire-a-content-writer.com/blog-writer.html

  59. WTFISAPDF March 3, 2010 at 4:57 pm #

She charges way too much for a press release. $40 is unreasonable considering a press release shouldn’t be more than two double-spaced typed pages.

We have a business hub at a local college and you can get a press release written for free. All you have to do is make an appointment and it’s only a three or four day waiting period.

Most papers give out a press release booklet that tells how to write one and gives you examples of how to do it.

  60. Ladeeda March 4, 2010 at 12:43 pm #

Gosh, it’s like she didn’t even research the market price for her “skills” before she opened her shop. And people are supposed to pay for business advice from her? When she doesn’t even seem to understand how to do things herself?

In answer to the main question on this thread, yes Lucinda is receiving preferential treatment, because she has her head firmly wedged up an admin or two’s backside. However, people always and I mean ALWAYS tire of her eventually. It never fails.

There was a bruhaha a few weeks ago when this person was starting so many threads in the forums to shill her fake wholesale expertise. Thanks to the Etsians that convoed me to explain what I was missing. I don’t think I would have fell for it anyway, but thanks. Fortunately it looks as though she gets shut down all the time. I also posted this on another thread here.

It will be a good test to see if Lucinda is getting preferential treatment.

    Let’s start reporting!

  67. Number 9 March 10, 2010 at 4:14 pm #

Why is everyone hating on Lucinda? She has a tangible product, which goes along with the Etsy TOS. You ladies do have way too much time on your hands. If you don’t want to buy it, then don’t. Why do you just spend all day online, looking for imiginary infractions, rather than working on your shops?
Sick ’em ….woof woof…go get the resellers.

  68. Number 9 March 10, 2010 at 4:19 pm #

PussDaddy- I don’t see you on Etsy. Or did you get the boot? Your are always so quick to bash people, why don’t you give it a try?
