oh, sure one of a kind, thats why she sold same items many times. and these prices??? sure properly priced as for one of a kind …

  2. Kirsi March 9, 2010 at 12:40 am #

She could hand assemble them, but OOAK?

  3. Life During Wartime March 9, 2010 at 1:26 am #

They are handmade, but not OOAK. If the seller welcomes large wholesale orders (on AliBaba) that are duplicates of her various designs, there is no way they could be OOAK. Because she said that, I have to wonder if she makes her own items or is a designer having the jewelry made in Eastern Europe or elsewhere. I mean, if you BS with buzzwords about one thing, how can I trust anything else about your shop? I honestly dunno what’s up with this one.

One of 1VINTAGETREASURES victims in the $850 fake Chanel bag scam has listed the fake Chanel that she bought from 1VINTAGETREASURES on Etsy at a (loss) $730 price, and calls out 1VT in the description. Guess since Etsy won’t act on flags and fraudulent and phony designer bag sales the victims have to resort to trying to sell the goods they were scammed for http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing

Just saw this in the forums, anyone know who and what shop they’ve now opened?

Amused, is it the acorn person? Not sure, but that would be my guess.

  11. Amused March 9, 2010 at 7:45 pm #

I think acorn was featured seller, not QYDJ. Maybe Shade is back?

  12. ohmeohmy March 9, 2010 at 8:09 pm #

I checked all the titanium jewelry (isn’t that what shade used to sell?) and no new sellers.

  13. Amused March 9, 2010 at 8:19 pm #

Me too, coming up empty so far. Did find some interesting things in titanium rings referring to companies.

  14. 'Elle March 9, 2010 at 8:36 pm #

Peaches4me? She got shut down shortly after her QYDJ episode.

    She’s at sparklepeach.etsy now.

I didn’t follow too closely though, so I don’t have any details as to why the first shop was shut. But according to her facebook fan page she “was planning” on shutting down the first shop, before etsy closed it. Yeah, right.

I think that’s pretty funny, seeing how the call out shop is also selling stuff that’s not vintage. There’s one necklace that was sold a few years ago in a popular catalog. Now I’ve got to find the catalog, scan the pic, and report it to Michelle.

The bathing suits are not the same, so that was a cheap shot. And the dresses have some differences too. How do we know that monkeesnmermaids didn’t sell her design to someone else? That can and does happen. How do we know she’s not selling wholesale somewhere else?

With iffy comparisons, the caller-outer should have really just reported it instead of doing what she did.

People living in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones, ya know.

Definitely not a supply! Falls under the chain for pendant “rule”! If it can be used by itself, it’s not a supply! Looks like this shop has quite a few marked that way……..give me a break! Flagged! (but we know how that will go because this is a money maker shop).

And, this beautiful black handmade dress:

    http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=41380637

is also being sold at MalaysiaMall by Hazel Creations Boutique. Here’s the same dress in red:

    http://www.1malaysia1mall.com/products.php?product=RED-ONE-SHOULDER-GRECIAN-EVENING-COCKTAIL-MAXI-DRESS

It’s the same dress and model. She “photoshopped” the color. And I’m doubting she has the original photo. Looks just like the stolen photos in Bella’s shop!

  23. RocksInMySocks March 10, 2010 at 8:38 am #

WTFISAPDF – The only difference is those dresses is the color. Even the freakin’ mannequin is the same.

And btw, since you’re planning on contacting Michelle, be sure to send her the link to these gorgeous HANDMADE fairly lights that monkeysnmermaids blows the glass for and then wraps with all these little strings. All for the low, low price of $18.

    http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=42399514

And, be sure to let her know that you can buy the exact same HANDMADE lights here:

    http://www.thaihandicraft.net/index.php?lay=show&ac=article&Id=538968085

You honestly think that monkeesnmermaids is a handmade shop? Geesh!

  24. RocksInMySocks March 10, 2010 at 8:46 am #

And WTFISAPDF – the vintage shop you’re referring to looks fine to me. You said “items” but you only mentioned one necklace. I just looked at all the necklaces and they’re definitely vintage, most of them are even identified by the maker. Don’t accuse someone of taking a cheap shot if you plan on doing the same thing yourself.

  25. WTFISAPDF March 10, 2010 at 9:20 am #

There is a necklace in that shop that is NOT vintage and I did find it in a catalog from 2004, scanned it, and sent it to Michelle.

There is another item that isn’t vintage and I am looking for proof of it now.

I am looking for solid proof, something the seller didn’t do when she called out monkees.

How can you tell they are all definitely vintage?

  26. RocksInMySocks March 10, 2010 at 9:22 am #

While we’re on the subject of lights, here’s another example from monkeysnmermaids shop:

    And, the wholesale shop:

    http://www.thaihandicraft.net/index.php?lay=show&ac=article&Id=538968157

She’s even borrowed heavily from their description. Of course, she’s not the only one on Etsy who’s selling these and using similar descriptions. Check out:

  27. Laura March 10, 2010 at 9:43 am #

    Which necklace?

  28. it stinks March 10, 2010 at 9:46 am #

THe mini cast iron bird bath in #19 isn’t any kind of supply.

It’s a small cast iron bird bath. What in the world could you do with that? I guess you could glue it to a bigger bird bath.

You can buy those at Hobby Lobby right now by the hundreds.

  29. MadeByM**** March 10, 2010 at 9:58 am #

It stinks……………..they are selling it as a display. That would be cute at a craft show as a display, but it’s not a supply or vintage per Etsy rules!

  30. RocksInMySocks March 10, 2010 at 10:05 am #

    WTFISAPDF Says:
How can you tell they are all definitely vintage?

    *************

First of all, I threw away my 2004 catalogs about 6 years ago so I just looked carefully at all the items. Of the 28 necklace/pendants listed, 12 are marked, 14 are easily identifiable as vintage if you have even a slight background in vintage jewelry (which I do) and only 2 are not totally obvious as being vintage. Doesn’t mean that they AREN’T though. However, looking at the rest of the shop, it’s easy to see that this is a legitimate seller and not someone posting their leftover yard sale crap.

I’m much more concerned with people selling items made in a Thailand sweatshop and passing it off as being handmade by them.

  31. WTFISAPDF March 10, 2010 at 10:31 am #

My sister is a jewelry historian so we have catalogs from way back yonder. She works in the film industry and has to pick period jewelry for people to wear in movies.

She looked at the shop and quickly identified three pins as being post-1995. I only reported the necklace that I had absolute proof of. Which is my point. Monkees was called out for a bathing suit that was similar, but not identical, to one sold elsewhere.

  32. RocksInMySocks March 10, 2010 at 10:47 am #

  34. ohmeohmy March 10, 2010 at 11:12 am #

I saw a shop that has 1000’s of sales but I’m confused whether or not it is etsy legal. She sells factory made crotched hair bands and beanies to embellish. Things are labeled as “supplies” and it makes sense to me because I do see a lot of etsy shops that add flowers and beads to these items and then sell them.

There is so much confusion about what is legal and what is not. Stickers, erasers, manufactured crochet goods, chains, cords for necklaces, crafting lamps, etc.

I think etsy really needs to be clearer about the ‘supplies” category.

  35. Life During Wartime March 10, 2010 at 12:03 pm #

I think the Etsy rule is that nothing can be sold as a commercial supply that can be used ‘stand alone’. A beanie or a hairband can be worn without embellishment. I saw a bunch of flower hair clips being sold as ‘supplies’ this morning on TimeMachine2. The flowers are supplies, and the plain clip hardware is a supply. But the completed product is a reseller item, unless it was assembled (handmade) by the seller.

That’s the rule as I understand it. But Etsy has done little to enforce the rule, so Supplies is full of reseller merchandise.

BlueKitty, did you see the reseller jewelry shop call out on Garagetsy? With the graphic ‘lowest prices on Etsy’ on the pics?

  36. BlueKittyMiniatures March 10, 2010 at 1:04 pm #

Thanks – new blog to me LDW. WJW.

Worrying that these shops are only empty and not closed – gives you the feeling they will quietly restock when the fuss dies down.

I know that comments containing links are held in moderation. Does anyone know how long they usually take to show up? I’m wondering if there’s a glitch and if I should post again. Don’t want to clutter things up though with double posting.

I had to google re-ment. Apparently, it’s some kind of Japanese Kawaii miniatures or something.
Lots of stickers came up also. Or at least they looked like stickers.

    catpower, if you google

Here is the supply shop tht sells crotched beanies and headbands, and other supplies: http://www.etsy.com/shop/MABOWLINNACRAFTMART?section_id=5579930&page=1

Are you sure these are not considered “supplies”.. She has them tagged correctly and has been here for a while with 100% feedback.

Like I said, etsy really needs to be clearer about supplies. I think they have changed the rules about supplies but never emailed all shops about the changes. Most sellers do not visit the forum; thus all the chains, hats, etc. are still in shops.

  45. MadeByM**** March 11, 2010 at 9:13 am #

  46. Em March 11, 2010 at 10:38 am #

  47. detroit March 11, 2010 at 11:05 am #

Hey all: Just to clarify, I didn’t call out Monkeys on Etsy.

Those links I posted were just some quick examples I dug up in two seconds to show that something suspicious is going down at that shop.

Not sure what their game is. I don’t know a lot about garment wholesaling from Asia. So, I thought those links I posted here were a good start to look into what they’re doing.

Maybe they’re kosher. But I am more likely to think that if it walks like a duck…

  48. Life During Wartime March 11, 2010 at 3:29 pm #

Their sewing business may be for real, but what about the party lights and the jewelry pendants?

I find it hard to believe that this seller sits down at her sewing machine to make up a custom garment and then starts blowing glass balls and covering them with string…or dying flowers or leaves to custom colors. Then grabs a soldering iron to make up a few dozen pendants. Really?

  49. BlueKittyMiniatures March 11, 2010 at 4:07 pm #

A reseeller just told me (on Flickr comments for all to see) that Etsy Admin gave her permission to sell her mass produced dollhouse items (specifically prohibited by the TOU) and in effect that I should prefer they buy those to use as pendants or in shadow boxes to my handmade items – ummm no I am proud to know one Etsian wears a cake I made and many collectors use them in shadow boxes but of course none of us stupid artists and crafters really want people to buy from us when they can buy cheap plastic crap from resellers do we?

  50. BlueKittyMiniatures March 11, 2010 at 4:09 pm #

    Forgot, this is the reseller

    Lifeduringwartime –
You’re right, monkeesnmermaids doesn’t make the lights.

    her listing:
    http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=42399514

    wholesaler:

    her listing:

    wholesaler:
    http://www.thaihandicraft.net/index.php?lay=show&ac=article&Id=538968170

These shops are also selling the exact same lights from the same wholesaler:

    http://www.etsy.com/shop/pdkcandles

    http://www.etsy.com/shop/chainupon

    http://www.etsy.com/shop/narayabags

Bluekitty – that totally sucks! It doesn’t surprise me that they have that attitude though. And, they probably were told it was okay by someone. It doesn’t seem as if admin are ever all on the same page.

  52. Life During Wartime March 11, 2010 at 9:28 pm #

I don’t know if all of you saw this thread closed by HeyMichelle Thursday afternoon
    http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=6461423&page=8
In her closing comment, she says she has closed a whopping 50 reseller shops in a week. That’s like 7 per day. Big woo. I understand that shops that have a mixture of legit and reseller items require communication rather than a simple delete. But after reading BlueKitty’s comment above, it looks like another confirmation that Etsy cherry picks which reseller items to allow and which not…who cares about the TOU?

I bet there are days when more than 7 reseller shops open on Etsy.

  53. Bedazzled VONdom March 12, 2010 at 5:51 am #

“In her closing comment, she says she has closed a whopping 50 reseller shops in a week.”

Wow, HeyMichelle must be totally exhausted!

Imagine all the difficult reading and searching and clicking that she invested in this herculean effort.

I think she deserves a fat raise and a long vacation.

  54. MadeByM**** March 12, 2010 at 6:40 am #

Yeah, but did she close the shops that are “power sellers”???

  55. it stinks March 12, 2010 at 8:53 am #

Does anyone but me ever get the feeling that we (meaning people who complain) are the only ones who care and are offended by all of this? It seems like etsy is just sitting back and laughing at all the “whiners” who constantly complain about the resellers and rule breakers.

I feel like they are having a big ol’ laugh at our expense. Like it’s all just a game to them.

  56. Life During Wartime March 12, 2010 at 12:13 pm #

I don’t think Etsy cares about the resellers. If they did, they would have come up with a better solution than having us email HeyMichelle and wait a month for something maybe to happen. I played with Pounce last night for about 10 minutes and came up with 3 Chinese reseller shops. So easy. Catalog photos with text, watermarks in foreign character sets, stock numbers, duh…

You don’t need experience with crafts or knowledge of vintage to spot a manufacturer’s online catalog. If Etsy cared, the staff would handle these obvious cases the same day they open.

HeyMichelle pretty much told us the ‘rule breakers’ get a free pass for now when she said she didn’t want emails about tag or category violations.

It seems that Etsy cares only about the money. Just like any other business that exploits cheap labor from developing countries.
