I like the ‘vegan’ feathered headband for most awkward keyword-stuffed title. Nothing says vegan-appropriate like something off a dead bird!

  3. JK March 25, 2010 at 3:12 pm #

Ooh, and looking through I see she’s also a big offender in the ‘vintage is just a keyword and has no definition, right?’ category. This chick has all the bases covered!

  4. ohlordy March 25, 2010 at 4:07 pm #

any self respecting vegan wouldn’t ever buy that. i know i wouldn’t.

and way to go etsy for pointing this shop out. i can’t believe they featured it in the etsy finds. all they had to do was look at the sellers other listings. it’s quite clear this shop is reselling, and can be spotted in a matter of minutes.

    again…way to go etsy

    Ugh! Etsy finds? Really?

    Remember ditassecretcloset?

  6. ohlordy March 25, 2010 at 4:17 pm #

i thought that name sounded too familiar.

  7. notvintage March 25, 2010 at 5:57 pm #

Etsy finds is drek. So glad I don’t get their spam– the so-called staff who choose shit have their heads up their bony asses.

SQUICK! I pity the Vegan who perks up at that- only to be bombarded by the other tags, not to mention the item itself.

    Its too easy anymore.

Just one of about 20 resellers I found during a 5 minutes of pouncing.

  10. Life During Wartime March 26, 2010 at 11:17 am #

cosplaynaya is one of the reseller shops I have bookmarked in a separate folder on my laptop. I check the list daily to see if all the noise from Etsy about solving the reseller problem has some substance to it. So far, it looks like nothing more than a load of BS.

  11. ugh March 26, 2010 at 11:59 am #

Yes it looked for a little while ( what, not even a week, right?) that Michelle was deleting things, then they came out with this report a shop feature to be a glorified version of the report this listing feature. And we’re right back where we started.

Michelle tried at least, and now Etsy can plea that they are all busy & backed up with the reportings.

  12. Life During Wartime March 26, 2010 at 12:08 pm #

Here’s another shop I found with Pounce that has catalog photos in the listings:

The shop announcement is incredible for its fantastic claims of 24-hour sleep deprived days in the service of handmade. Rubish!

  13. detroit March 26, 2010 at 12:09 pm #

LOL – these Etsy employees are even lazier, and have even less follow-thru than me.

Now they see how hard it is not to inevitably become ‘the man’.

    Naive hipsters. Bah!

Etsy – your new corporate superstore, driving artisans and local mom-n-pops out of business with third world outsourcing and underpricing…

    Way to make a ‘difference.’

  14. Cat Power March 26, 2010 at 12:47 pm #

    Hear, hear detroit!

I really question the IQ levels of the employees, when these shops are flagged, and they do nothing in response. The items are so blatantly non handmade and even have the original site logo on them, even a moron could figure it out!

They could at least start with the more obvious ones, don’t you think? Oh but wait….that’s logical thinking….sorry, wrong group of people for that assumption.

  15. Life During Wartime March 26, 2010 at 1:17 pm #

The SCRAM (Systems for Catching Resellers and Abusers of the Marketplace) software is more like a SCAM (Secretly Certifying Abusers of the Marketplace) IMO.

You have to know how to find resellers yourself before you can code a bot to find them.

  16. JohnCocktoasten March 26, 2010 at 1:35 pm #

LDW, your last sentence hit the nail on the head.

  17. ugh March 26, 2010 at 2:15 pm #

They implement these so -called tools to placate the masses. Right now everyone is up in arms about sales & views tanking. So admin has stepped in a bit & tried to calm the waves.

Next week it’ll be something else, & people will drop that for awhile.

    It’ll be Resellers turn again

    Then copying

Then why is xyz (vintage, supplies, whatever deemed not handmade that week) allowed to be sold

    Then favoritism

Then be nice & positive or you might lose sales

Then back to crappy sales & views

Since admin never fixes any of these complaints, preferring to to use a band aid instead, with lots of promises & pretty words, and nothing ever gets solved.

  18. itstinks March 26, 2010 at 2:20 pm #

Nothing in the shop announcement for this shop makes sense (haohaowangwang). I realize that English is not their first language but Geez. That shop announcement is terrible.

    Shop announcement:

Hello dear friends! Welcome to my handmade goods, ethnic customs, original design clothing store hey America, where you can find your favorite clothes. I designed a more prominent behalf of the Chinese national style show more women’s charm, you can time and space shuttle, you and the classical beauty and modern America performance. I usually find a piece of cloth will be a mirror of their own to inspire my design inspiration, and then I will use the computer CAD drawing out the map to see if there is something wrong, I will change, until I am satisfied. Sometimes, I do not sleep, days and nights, until the completion of my work. My design philosophy, fashion, classic, retro. I need to use all of the eco-friendly materials, cotton, hemp, the body very helpful.

Washing clothes with cotton and linen store mainly bright or dark colors are fade the possibility of washing time, take cold water add some salt solid color, do not use warm water, do not soak a long time (5 minutes), do not use detergent, rinse directly to the best, not exposure, in general, will not affect the level of bright colors, hee hee! ~ Hand-painted clothing, washing, when turned over, do not force rub hand-painted place, everything is ok on the! ~

  19. AF March 26, 2010 at 5:29 pm #

That’s like total Engrish! That’s what happens when you put your announcement into babelfish and expect it to come out somewhat readable. . .

  20. Life During Wartime March 26, 2010 at 8:32 pm #

As funny as the fractured English is, the person who wrote it knows pretty well how to stroke the Etsy staff into thinking the stuff is made by the shop owner. I mean, she can ship an elaborate piece of clothing so quickly because she works on every order tirelessly — without sleeping — rather than because she’s got cartons of them made up, folded and sealed in bags sitting on the shelf in her storeroom. What a crock. No way would I want a garment that was handmade by someone who hadn’t slept in 2-3 days, and can’t be washed with any detergent.

  21. detroit March 27, 2010 at 5:52 am #

Ha ha. On some of those haohaowangwang garments you can see the squares still folded in the garments. Like they took them out of the boxes, unpackaged them. Threw up sheet, and took pix.

Thing is – a lot of those items are perfectly cute. Just not meant for Etsy.

But if these small factories can avoid the cut taken by the Chinese middlemen, the American middlemen, and the American retailers and sell directly to the US consumer??? (like here in this store) Do you know how much $70 (a typical price of their items) is in Chinese currency? That’s a boatload of money to an average Chinese person. Cannot blame them at all for giving it a shot. That could feed their family for a month or more. Pay rent, etc.

The Chinese keep their currency pegged artificially low to the USD. That’s why Chinese stuff is SO cheap in the west. And hence, everything in the stores here is ‘Made in China.’

It’s a global problem as it relates to trade imbalances, etc. But Etsy could easily avoid the problem by using common sense and NOT ALLOWING OBVIOUS RESELLERS! Humph!

Whoo – gotta slow down on the coffee. lol

  22. Someone else March 28, 2010 at 8:34 pm #

What the fuck you all these people keep complaint some other reseller!! Everything in the world would copies and resold just only one thing they need is make money for surviving! Why you guys want to bother? I am a shopaholic but I don’t care what seller where to get the stuff from as long as we are just wanna to buy what we wanted!

Many people they having their hard life for surviving so they making money with many ways as long as not rob the bank or kill people there is fine. You guy just too much money so nobody will understand life is being hard.

Don’t be bother what other people doing as long as you’re doing good for yourself. Also, Please don’t be blame what ETSY doing, you guy should respected what they doing you know they might have lots of employees are being get paid every month!

  23. Cat Power March 28, 2010 at 10:10 pm #

Well, at least the first 3 words came out right on Babelfish for 22.

Yes, we know Etsy has a lot of employees that are paid every month, we’re just amazed at what they get paid not to do!

And we also have hard times we are going through, that is why we want the resellers with cheap merchandise to go to Ebay where they belong, and not hog the categories on a HANDMADE site. Manufactured items are not allowed nor wanted!

  24. Life During Wartime March 28, 2010 at 11:20 pm #

That is a bogus argument, Someone else!

For over a decade people who make wonderful things with their creative vision and hard work have needed a place to sell online without people like you telling them they should just shut the hell up and co-exist happily with resellers. I am tired of hearing about how the reseller’s need — or the person passing fake antiques, which is the way people cheat in my business — is greater than or equal to mine.

    Fuck that, seriously…fuck it!

Etsy became successful because sellers — and hopefully non-shopaholic buyers as well — took their mission statement seriously and believed in Etsy. Enough to spend their time setting up shops and doing the lion’s share of promotion for the site in general, not just for their own personal shops.

If you are really a shopaholic, you have my sympathy. But if you must shop, and like what the resellers have to offer, I suggest you do a little comparison shopping on the web. Because you can most often find the same reseller goods on another site for less money, probably a site you won’t need babelfish to understand….if you get my meaning. Or even if you don’t.

  25. Someone else March 29, 2010 at 1:54 am #

Well, even you all keep complaint there was nothing you can do by the way. If you guys are smarter then should go to avoid this kind of shops. There have 1000 millions or more copies and reseller in the world so how many you could stop them! People are trying best to do something to stop that so let them do it but not you to stop them. We have no powerful could do this all.

If you are a smarter you should shop on branded shops not wasting your time to researched where other people doing fake things. People not a stupid, if they do then let’s learned a lesson.

I don’t like to bother what people doing on their business.
I just realized what was important for me as long as I don’t lie anyone and doing great for myself.

  26. itstinks March 29, 2010 at 8:24 am #

Someone else, bless your heart. Etsy is suppose to be a HANDMADE site. HANDMADE by the SELLER.

Why can’t you and all the other resellers just go sell on ebay?
Why do you have to mess things up for artists and crafters who actually make their own items – not made in a factory with slave labor.

How many slave factories do you have? You sound like a reseller to me.

  27. ugh March 29, 2010 at 10:00 am #

I don’t know about you, but, after that plea to leave resellers alone because they are just trying to make a living, well, I am gonna do just that!! yessireee, stick my head in the stand & let them run rampant on etsy.

WHEEEEE. life is so much for fun when you don’t give a shit. Or robbing banks & killing people – the resellers could be much worse – they could be holding admin hostages! Oh my!

  28. Someone else March 29, 2010 at 2:48 pm #

itstinks, you might misunderstood I am not a seller or whatever you talked about reseller. I am a person just who is loves to shop onlines.

Don’t you think keep bother other people business this would make you became a noisy person? There were non of your business. Why don’t you save your time to do something meaningful for your friends and family.

Life is too short, do something for your friends or family rather you wasting your time to sitting on the computer in 24 hours a day to do something not to worth to do.

  29. Life During Wartime March 29, 2010 at 3:23 pm #

Someone else, you don’t understand. Many online shops help support the owner’s family, paying for food, rent, medical expenses, you name it. Etsy was created to be a place for people to sell things they make themselves as a home-based business without having to compete with shoddy mass-produced goods sold by people who had nothing to do with making them. Holding Etsy to its promise of being a handmade venue — without resellers — is doing something for sellers and their families. Something to help them survive.

Resellers are in a way stealing from the people who buy from them if they pretend they made the items they sell. I don’t know about you, but in my culture being a thief is dishonorable and brings disgrace on your family. I hope babelfish makes my point clear to you. To defend people who steal because you benefit in some way from their dishonesty, as you are doing here, also brings dishonor on you and your family.

  30. MadeByM**** March 29, 2010 at 3:27 pm #

Someone else…..what brought you to this blog? For the most part, only people associated with Etsy, as a seller or buyer, end up here. If you happened to just show up here by accident and have never been on Etsy, it wouldn’t make much sense to you. There are thousands of sites where you can sell or buy commercially manufactured clothing and goods. Etsy is for handmade, handcrafted items by the seller that made them themselves (and supplies and vintage items 20+ years and older). When commercially manufactured items are mixed in with these items, many times they are falsely advertised as handmade…that is deception…that is fraud! Most of the sellers on Etsy are also trying to make extra money to survive!

  31. MadeByM**** March 29, 2010 at 3:31 pm #

And I know here in America, people that break the law or people that deceive “brings dishonor on themselves and their families.” Not people that are making sure laws and rules are being followed and not broken……and that is what “we” are doing here on this blog!

  32. wahwah March 29, 2010 at 3:36 pm #

So Someone else, what is the name of your shop?

  33. itstinks March 29, 2010 at 5:24 pm #

Someone else, I think that people who live in glass houses, shouldn’t throw stones.

You are preaching to me to get off of my computer? When you admitted that you are, supposedly, an online shopaholic?

Go sell your mass produced crap somewhere else. We aren’t buying it here.

  34. Nobody Understands My Pain Either March 29, 2010 at 9:01 pm #

Criteria for caring about Etsy staying true to its advertised mission statement:

    * Not having a life
    * Sitting in front of the computer 24 hours a day
    * Being nosy and not just minding your own business
    * Being heartless to the plight of poor resellers who are just trying to make a living, and are probably facing real hardship, unlike you
    * Being too dense to understand that everyone should be able to do whatever they want, as long as no one gets murdered
    * Being a bitch
    * Being jealous
    * Being too dense to understand that everyone should be able to do whatever they want, except rob banks

    Does that cover everything?

  35. Life During Wartime March 29, 2010 at 10:23 pm #

I dunno about the last point in your list, Nobody Understands. Robbing banks is cool on Etsy. Remember their Bonnie and Clyde feature? Last year, was it, or the year before?

  36. Someone else March 30, 2010 at 1:41 am #

Well, Life During Wartime, whatever you said you would have your right thought but one thing you’re un professional is to saying something rude to people as you are doing here, also brings dishonor on you and your family.

You can said that to etsy or whatever so but not included family in this cases. Please be watch your words to someone family. You should learned what you have to said what you are not suppose to said.

wahwah: I have no shop on internet.

itstinks: Well, I only loves to shop something that I need not in crazy shop something that not necessary. You can say whatever you wanna said, I don’t like to fight with a nosey person just like you.

  37. itstinks March 30, 2010 at 5:43 am #

Nobody understands my pain, you summed it up nicely.
    Thanks for clarifying.

I should probably get off the computer now so as not to be a nosy bitch.

  38. wahwah March 30, 2010 at 6:30 am #

Someone Else, I don’t understand your post. Quite the same way I don’t understand many re-sellers’ shop policies, etc. Me thinks you are a big fat liar and that dishonors not only your family, but all of your fellow re-sellers.

  39. Someone else March 30, 2010 at 4:01 pm #

WahWah: I think you should learned to respected someone family before you said something rude. I never saying any rude to someone family in my life this because I respected everyone here the only things I would like to say is life is really too short, you have never know when someone you love will gone, time is just a money to us. Even you win the world but you lose your family, there was no meaningful at all. My point is why these day people rather crazy to waste their time on Internet to forgotten to spent their time with family. Yes, Money is important but family is the first too. I just wanted to say: Don’t be blame someone or saying bad words behind a people. If they’re really doing bad god will punish them as well.

itstinks: I don’t mean I don’t understand your pain, everyone has the pain or hard life but just I need to said is Cherish your family more if you have chance.

  40. ohmeohmy March 30, 2010 at 4:45 pm #

    Someone else,

You’re a re-seller and you probably own the shop at the top which you have noe emptied.

Ebay lets everyone sell, handmade or not. Amazon too. Etsy is only for handmade by you and you already know that. We all need to feed our families, not just you.

But if you lie, you lose face. And that’s something you can NEVER get back.

  41. itstinks March 30, 2010 at 5:29 pm #

Indiepixie is not empty. It’s full, full, full, of reseller crap.

  42. cat March 30, 2010 at 6:45 pm #

I owned a shop on Etsy and all things was handmade by me and my another crafter partner. But sadly I’d received a flag from someone to complaint that my stuffs was not handmade, I am pretty upset this people misunderstood me and my partner. Now my shops was closed.

  43. Nobody Understands My Pain Either March 30, 2010 at 6:45 pm #

It’s all true…I spend absolutely no time with my family. All I do, all day, every day, is hunt out poor resellers and bring dishonor on the people that I love. It’s a horrible, horrible thing to stand up for what you believe in, as history has shown us all. Cowardice, submission, and apathy will earn the respect of everyone around you, especially your family. These are the things that matter. I’m so glad that someone finally showed up to show us all the error of our ways.

I wonder if my family will even remember who I am when I finally pull myself away from this computer? I can only hope…

  44. wahwah March 31, 2010 at 4:39 am #

Someone else, once again you have made a long and incoherent post. What does hating scum re-sellers such as yourself have anything to do with losing family members? I have lost more than you can imagine, but that did not turn me into a scum sucking reseller like you.

  45. itstinks March 31, 2010 at 2:51 pm #

Indiepixie *cough*, I mean Someone else and cat (one and the same?) Didn’t you see this sites motto? It’s over to the right, in the blue box.

    You can stop complaining now.

  46. Someone else March 31, 2010 at 3:28 pm #

wahwah: My point is all these people wasting their time to do something are no meaningful over here! These nosy people like you and others just only know to bother other people business, I was wondering why these people can be saying so much bullshit and nothing can be do for the reseller. This is really a wasting time! Well, I think a person like you never understand what I talking about. Btw, I wish you good luck.

  47. wahwah April 1, 2010 at 6:55 am #

Well I wish you bad luck in all of your reselling endeavors.
