I have been flaggin this shop with direct links for the past week and it is all still there.

Maybe you can have more luck.

A shop called NRFDesigns on Etsy has a “handmade/ hand fabricated section”

in this section is nothing but imported rings straight off – didn’t even bother to take their own pictures!

the list goes on and on and on and on…..

I wondered why someone would make a whole bunch of identical super ugly rings.

  2. Garagetsy April 13, 2010 at 3:17 pm #

Sorry to sound cynical, but he’s had 900+ sales in one year. I doubt Etsy Admin will touch him.

I flagged in case there is hope…

Unfortunately from what MaryMary stated in the VL about re-sellers, if a re-seller has been around awhile, then they must have been checked and given the OK, so with 900+ sales, they won’t be going anywhere. 😦

That shop is bizarre- $0.90 for a “$64.00” glass pendant?
Whoever buys something like that MUST know that it isn’t handmade.

  5. itstinks April 13, 2010 at 5:58 pm #

Did you check out the super high shipping prices? $11.00 to ship a ring from the US to the US. WOW! THey must send them in solid gold boxes.

  6. Uhwha April 13, 2010 at 6:43 pm #

Shoot if they come in solid gold boxes I’m so there..

Fedup, are you serious?? Link me!

WHAT ?? Do the forums know about that? Yikes, what a bunch of B.S.

Swindle away, resellers, Etsy says its OK.

I wonder if another Twitter trending thing is started they will do something. Again. Hey Michelle should’ve kept deleting things. At least when I sent links in I could see she’d taken care of them. The content team does nothing.

I found this seller’s Ebay Store under user id

It seems all his glass pendants (or maybe just the ones I happened to click on in the store) had a retail value of $64.00.

I am trying to figure out how this person can sell handmade art pendants on Etsy and Ebay for a buck or two, and claim they all have a retail value of so much more? How can anything be worth $64 if you are selling hundreds of them at roughly 3% of that price? Are the pendants handmade, or are they purchased wholesale somewhere for a few pennies?

A rough transcript of the Lab on resellers was posted in the forums, and did include something about older shops most likely have been vetted in the past and considered just fine and dandy. That may be why some shops have added reseller items to their legit handmade, vintage or supplies after being open a while and becoming established. Most of the reseller shops that get wiped completely are new OR have very few sales.

    Etsy’s motto: Follow the money!

That’s why the resellers will remain and multiply like rabbits…or should I say rats.

We get ourselves all worked up over these shops, and all it does is give us indigestion and stress induced headaches and the Etsy admin just blithely sit around counting the money as it rolls in.

It’s a losing battle folks. I think we all know it down deep, but we still have hope that somehow it will all come out right in the end.

Sorry to have to break it to you this way, but I think the fairy tale ended about 2 years ago. Now they have such a stronghold that there is no way they are going to be ousted.

I hate to admit defeat, but I think we should really consider that the major battle has already been lost, and the best we can do is pounce on the new creeps as they enter the arena.

  10. yeseidid April 13, 2010 at 8:52 pm #

Clearly not made by the seller at that price – none of it. I have seen some of these items at the gem and bead shows.

It is disappointing that so many buyers have found him and in such a short time.

The glass tile pendant makers are really being undercut. Ouch! for them.

  11. ugh April 14, 2010 at 2:02 am #

Huh. It can’t be common forum knowledge, there’d be many many posts as per usual.

well, I’m done with the flagging . I mean whats the point? Etsy has vetted them, and people are buying because they either can’t tell handmade from manufactured, or they don’t care.

Etsy, your place to buy all things handmade, vintage, supplies, and sweat shop created

Etsy is sucking more and more with resellers like this and others.

Etsy’s lack of integrity is evident with them not doing anything to fix the perception of their site as another ebay.

I’m considering not buying anymore but I do have some favorite sellers who don’t (yet) sell elsewhere…

But this crap… 900 sales?!?! WTF????!!!!

  13. WTFISAPDF April 14, 2010 at 5:18 am #

Etsy really needs to get it’s act together or admit that reselling is allowed.

Last night out of sheer boredom from being laid up with strep throat, I entertained myself by reading the forums. Sellers are stressed to the max with the reseller, lack of views, lack of sales issues.

There was one thread where Paperstreet was going absolutely bonkers. In her posts she will attack and bully anyone who doesn’t agree with her that the sky is falling. In that thread I thought she was going to crack up right there for all to see.

Of course, in complete Etsy style, Paperstreet was allowed to bully anyone who didn’t agree with her for pages before L’il LisaJune came and shut her down.

It would stand to reason that the resellers are making more sales than the legit shops. All one needs to do is read this blog to see what a great deal there is to be had from a reseller.
Etsy’s reputation has been flushed down the toilet because of them, but try to tell unsuspecting buyers that you can’t get something for nothing.

Nothings ever going to change as far as resellers, so instead of making a total ass of oneself in the forums, just accept the fact that they are taking business from you or pack up your goods and move on.

It’s obvious that this featured dude has taken 900 sales away from a legit seller, so multiply that by the hundreds of resellers and if ya think that’s Google’s fault, you are living in a cave.

It’s a shame Etsy has pushed it’s legitimate sellers to the point of carrying on in the forums as if they are having nervous breakdowns. Shame on Etsy for that.

This seller – If this is allowed to stay open, I’m shutting down my Etsy shop and refusing to shop there again. There are HUNDREDS of pictures with alibaba & taobao watermarks, among others. When I searched for glass pendants, they took up most of the first page of search results.

I have to say that all of the recent developments have sucked the joy for my shop right out. I am angry, sad, and disappointed.

  16. Seriously! April 14, 2010 at 7:04 am #

re: girly and magicpandora. Ugh! That shop! It kills me! I reported it not long ago, as it sits there and clutters up the jewelry section with it’s knockoff pandora beads. If they’re going to allow the shop to stay, they can at least make them put their crap in the correct category.

  17. Toaster April 14, 2010 at 7:45 am #

Well, I don’t think there’s any way I can keep my Etsy shop open anymore. The casual buyer is going to come to expect reseller prices and I refuse to undercharge my work, and knowing that Etsy is cool with these shops.. no.

Yep, it seems once you’re a “power seller” you’re immune from elimination (goodness, an Ebay and Biggest Loser reference)!!!

Concerning the staying power of resellers these days, check out this forum thread I saw early this morning. If you watch the video, crank up your volume. The relevant part starts about 4:30 in.

Interesting it started in Site Help, but was moved to Etc.

speaking of etsy favorites; more of the same in today’s finds storque post.

I never understand why admin wants the rich to get richer. Throw us poor some pennies for eff’s sake.

    so frustrating.

NRF may return with only the glass pendants, listings revised to remove the ‘retail value’ and other reseller-speak. Etsy coaching in progress…

USE ETSY. Don’t quit unless you aren’t make any money at it: USE THEIR SITE for your own benefit. There are ways to do that that will not risk your integrity.
No way will I advertise my shop on Etsy. I will, however, use it to my advantage.
Nobody runs me off unless I want to go.

  28. yeseidid April 14, 2010 at 9:22 pm #

Umm…the 900 sales are from last December, not the entire year.

  29. Etsy Person April 15, 2010 at 7:06 am #

Keep flagging folks. If people keep bitching in the forums and places like this its bad press for Etsy and they know it.

  30. Etsy Person April 17, 2010 at 7:34 am #

Shop has no items for sale today. Please keep flagging like mad.

  31. jcjohn April 18, 2010 at 4:26 pm #

interesting shop, can’t put my finger on what the issue is….
