From the inbox:
37 sales, 34 since 3/7/10 – prom season and resellers abound!

http://yhchang2000.etsy.com

The photography and huge number of sizes immediately available were big clues.
sold as I was checking out the reseller.
They’re mostly all there.
Someone into weddings should look at the wedding dresses.
Let’s see if the “report this shop” button really works?

Thanks for all your hard work.

…..and off topic, gotta love double copyright infringement.

It’s almost pointless to complain about the resellers anymore. Etsy doesn’t care and girls shopping for their prom dresses don’t care where it comes from…………

What is with the parking lot photoshoot?

All the pictures in that store are all the same style. Even if they aren’t available on that site, I don’t buy for a minute that they are not reselling.

And http://www.etsy.com/shop/coolskins is disgusting. 143 sales in less than a month, with a shop full of infringing. I don’t understand why Etsy won’t pull obvious items like these. A quick search for “snow white macbook” pulls all the resellers out of the woodwork. I feel for the legitimate sellers of macbook stickers, if any are out there. *rolls eyes*

I am fed up with the Etsy policy of ‘we luv us some Chinese factory import shops’.

These are not individual artisans, small collectives or family businesses.

The factory made items are sold elsewhere on the web, and these companies don’t need Etsy to survive.

If I had an Etsy shop, I would refuse to sell to buyers who had purchased from an Asian factory reseller. I would check the items in their feedback, and if I saw one of these resellers (including their rep shops in the US, Canada, the UK and Australia) I would cancel the sale — and tell them why.

Yes, I am p.o.ed right now. Just checked my possible reseller list and found this one
    http://www.etsy.com/shop/wangbin
that I grabbed from Pounce when they opened with a dozen items.
They have grown 5-fold, made dozens of sales, and now have catalog pics with several different Asian brand logos on some of them.
    Way to go, Etsy SC(r)AM.

LDW, just as I was checking that shop, they had another sale.

Funny, how this shop and Indiepixie can sell the same dresses

    58 sales and no feedback?

  8. Em April 20, 2010 at 2:06 pm #

    lol @ wangbin.

I don’t know why that sounds so funny to me.

This is on the front page: http://www.etsy.com/listing/44752343/mini-truffle-in-white?ref=fp_feat_7

I always suspect leather handbags of not being handmade, and I’m usually right.

  10. wahwah April 20, 2010 at 3:14 pm #

Anon, the bag is white and photographed with a white background, so it MUST be handmade and therefore perfect for the FP.

  11. Life During Wartime April 20, 2010 at 3:28 pm #

Anon, Morelle got called out before. I think it was last year? Her business was too big for her to make her own bags, so she has her designs manufactured. This is the type of business that Etsy wants to retain for the site — they feel it would be unfair to tell a successful business they were now too big for Etsy. Now she says she makes all the bags herself. Who knows?

As soon as Etsy announces that they are featuring a genre, in this case prom, the bandwagon gets overloaded. Vet, vet, vet.

If you’ve ever been to China – because it’s the global center of garment manufacturing – people there are dressing so flipping cute!! I couldn’t believe the fashions last time I was in Beijing – ’06!!

But, there are garment factories EVERYWHERE there. And now we’re in a bit of a global recession – they’ve got to get creative (cough *etsy* cough). C’mon Etsy!! You’ve GOT TO address this! Are you going to allow these factories that western crafters can’t hope to compete with? (While, at the same time, you want these Eastern workshops to succeed too??)

Etsy needs to take a stand. Soon!! What is their target market??

    they’re back again!!
    http://www.etsy.com/shop/fashionclothes

and this shop, location california but ship from china.. and 71 sales since the 15th of april!!!!!
    http://www.etsy.com/shop/tjiajia

this one as well, are they same person or what?? they all look the same.

  15. ComradeBunny April 21, 2010 at 9:44 am #

I think someone should make a treasury with the same exact item sold by multiple sellers. Extra points if the photos are all the same.

  16. MadeByM**** April 21, 2010 at 10:26 am #

That would be too funny, bunny! (I made a rhyme)!

  17. JK April 21, 2010 at 10:39 am #

ComradeBunny, that would be hilarious! Or depressing, depending on the number of obvious resellers getting a free pass you could rack up.

  18. Life During Wartime April 21, 2010 at 11:18 am #

It looks like wangbin, niceclothes, and the whole bunch of resellers called out here are gone — except for the prom dress seller in the callout OP.

What I cannot figure out is why I could find wangbin, and add him to my reseller list as soon as he opened, while it took Etsy weeks to shut him down. He made a handful of sales yesterday before getting the boot.

It would be awesome to see some identical item treasuries. The crochet headbands, bird shaped post earrings (with no dangle embellishment), plain unaltered filigree rings, rhinestone bridal jewelry, fairy leaf/flower light strings, owl pendant necklaces, faux vintage pendant watches, feather head bands…so many choices. Hey, I’d be extra wicked and do some on the pendant on a chain necklaces…same chain, same charm, but considered handmade.

  19. wahwah April 21, 2010 at 11:50 am #

Those crochet headbands really push my buttons. Let’s see those twats actually pick up a crochet hook.

  20. Sara April 21, 2010 at 4:45 pm #

I’d do it but I’m not too confident about spotting resellers. Someone wants to mail group222@yahoo.com the right items and I would be happy to.

  21. Deedra April 21, 2010 at 6:44 pm #

I’m new to this whole reselling fiasco, I’m definitely going through my favs and getting rid of the trash.

  22. Charlie April 21, 2010 at 11:37 pm #

Would this shop qualify as reselling
    http://www.etsy.com/shop/LittleCharm

  23. ohmeohmy April 22, 2010 at 1:19 pm #

every day on etsy gets more and more depressing

  24. Finger in the Dike May 2, 2010 at 1:21 pm #
