Location- Paris Shipped From Morocco?!

27 Apr

Profile, Shop Announcement and shop policies are all blank.

Location says Paris but if you check a listing it say it’s shipped from Morocco- What do you think is the story with that?!?

If you want to see the last post that got censored by Wordspress it is located at http://etsycallout.blogspot.com

No shop Announcement. No Profile. No Policies. No claims in the listngs I read to make any of these bags.

But this may not be a problem for Etsy. They could be friends, or family, or business partners with the manufacturers in Morocco. Drop shipping seems to be okay now. The prom dress shop (yhchang2000) called out a few posts back says some of their items will be mailed from Cyprus, and they are located in China, so….

  2. FunBear April 27, 2010 at 1:55 pm #

why don’t you move the blog?

  3. Cat Power April 27, 2010 at 2:57 pm #

I just flagged the shop….fat lot of good it will do, but that is really ballsy!

Who do they think they are kidding?……Oh, wait, the 20 something cupcake “know nothings” at Etsy Corp…….

  4. etsycallout April 27, 2010 at 3:36 pm #

WordPress has alot of great perks over Blogger like IP numbers per post (which really comes in handy when some resellers come here and want to put the appearance on that they have a ton of support), all new comments being on one page instead of separate emails, etc.

  5. ugh April 27, 2010 at 4:53 pm #

I think rubygirl is a liar liar pants.

That one photographer who actually cared (too bad all the sellers using trademarked items don’t ask for permission) enough to question what she was doing regarding using Lego got a response in like, a day.

And Lego said they were flattered, but no, she couldn’t sell anything with their items for profit.

So rubygirl, what you have to say about that?

  6. Amused April 27, 2010 at 5:18 pm #

Ah Etsy, almost entire current front page is possible copyright infringement.

  7. wahwah April 27, 2010 at 5:27 pm #

Ya, that FP is chock full of infringement.

  8. WTFISAPDF April 27, 2010 at 5:28 pm #

So…. I got a response back from LEGO in less than 48 hours and the photographer got a response back the same day.

But… Rubygirl is still waiting for her response??

    Fishy, me thinks.

  9. FunBear April 27, 2010 at 6:57 pm #

    etsy is giving me heartburn..

  10. Etsy Person April 27, 2010 at 8:32 pm #

I have noticed that many things appearing in this blog have been removed. Not everything, but a great deal have disappeared. Onward I say!

  11. Etsy Person April 27, 2010 at 8:43 pm #

    Lovely! Read this shops introduction

  12. Cat Power April 27, 2010 at 9:43 pm #

So in 28 days of being on Etsy, AimiBoutique has had 98 sales…. Guess it’s easy to see the taste level of some of the Etsy buyers.

I guess cheap (both in quality and in $$) is what sells. Didn’t bother to read the feedback, as I’m sure it’s all ‘glowing’.

  13. JohnCocktoasten April 28, 2010 at 4:50 am #

EP, nothing in that shop is handmade. That owl necklace is all over ebay with the chain, so its not even hand-assembled.

So is it possible for someone to put in a false location and a false return address? I mean, then the stuff would show up as shipping from the US even if it was coming from somewhere like China. Is that possible with aimi?

  14. Lizzy April 28, 2010 at 5:43 am #

if this is vintage or handmade I will gladly cut off my ear. Buyers don’t care about this stuff- they just want something cute and cheap.

  15. it stinks April 28, 2010 at 5:54 am #

Rubygirl still has all the lego items up in her shop. I’m sure she has been coming back and reading the comments in this blog and has seen the letter the photographer got from Lego but isn’t going to remove her Lego recreations until forced.

Shows a lack of character, ethics, morals, etc. Very sad.

  16. Etsy Person April 28, 2010 at 6:33 am #

I wonder if someone will eventually sue Etsy on the premise their items are not “handmade” but instead “junk”?

  17. Anon April 28, 2010 at 6:52 am #

I can’t find my wholesale link for beauitulbridget, but the bags she sells are also at http://www.etsy.com/shop/joyyclothes – which is another obvious reseller. Beautifulbridget may make some of her things, but not all. She also has a retail store @ http://beautifulbridget.com

  18. Brian April 28, 2010 at 7:03 am #

OT: ebay re-seller Portobello is selling those same $4.50 rhinestone teardrop earrings AGAIN. She charges $79 and sold a pair this week, and it’s relisted. This was the same item featured on etsycallout in January—you can see the rhinestone pear dangle earrings there. I guess she thinks that because they are currently sold out on rhinestonejewelry.com, that no one can “call her out”. But I contacted rhinestonejewelry.com and I sent them HER PICTURE and asked when they would be getting more. They responded and said “next week.” She is such a LIAR AND FRAUD and I will contact whoever buys her China-made items and tell them when they leave feedback. (Also, she has taken the other rhinestonejewelry.com things and slightly altered them—but these are just being resold as is.)

  19. Anon April 28, 2010 at 7:10 am #

Brian – that is the best idea. Maybe if we bypass Etsy and contact the sellers directly, they’ll get pissed and make a fuss. I know I’d be furious if I paid $79 thinking the markup was for the handmade craftsmanship and it turned out I was getting Walmart’s rejects.

Can these people file with the BBB?

  20. wahwah April 28, 2010 at 9:26 am #

How many times is this stupid box or whatever it is, going to be featured in Finds and on the FP? I’ve seen at least twice in both.

  21. JohnCocktoasten April 28, 2010 at 9:28 am #

Let’s see….which items sitck out? And can you find the wholesale links? 245 points.

  22. JohnCocktoasten April 28, 2010 at 9:29 am #

The BBB won’t do anything if etsy isn’t a member or the shop isn’t. After all etsy is just a venue….

  23. wahwah April 28, 2010 at 9:32 am #

JohnCocktoasten, looks like someone cleaned out their closet and stuck the shit on Etsy.

  24. wahwah April 28, 2010 at 9:39 am #

“Once your order is complete and payment is made, I will contact the manufacturer. Manufacturing takes 3-4 weeks and shipping can take an additional 3-12 days. ***PLEASE BE AWARE OF MANUFACTURING AND SHIPPING TIMES PRIOR TO ORDERING***”

  25. wahwah April 28, 2010 at 10:04 am #

These can be found in just about any craft store.

  26. ohmeohmy April 28, 2010 at 11:37 am #

That’s a super idea, Brian! I am going to go through all her sold items and feedback and write to each person to tell them they were both defrauded and totally ripped off, pricewise. I am also going to give them a link to etsycallout and suggest they write to admin.

  27. ohmeohmy April 28, 2010 at 11:40 am #

Here’s the link for the etsycalloutpage about portobello:

    Anon- http://www.etsy.com/shop/babastudioPrague

I am pretty sure they are legit?

  29. Anon April 28, 2010 at 12:58 pm #

Maybe they are – those are just shops that hit my radar and I’m vetting here. It just looked massed produced – almost 200 items for sale, plus a website and sold on Amazon.co.uk? Also wondering about the copyright on some of those. I do hope I’m wrong, it’s cute stuff.

  30. GucciBooty April 28, 2010 at 5:40 pm #

Somebody somewhere made those leather bags, but anyone who purchases something from a shop with no creds is a shopaholic and needs help.

  31. Anon April 28, 2010 at 5:44 pm #

@Wahwah – those birds really have to be bullshit. Despite the fact that they are available for pennies all over the web, even if they were being painstakingly and lovingly handmade there’s no way they’d be that cheap for a dozen.

  32. Anon April 28, 2010 at 5:47 pm #

I first flagged this one a week ago and it’s still up. Guess it must be legit.

They must sell to this wholesaler too.

  33. wahwah April 29, 2010 at 3:57 am #

Anon, that lady is an asshole!

“Red Button Box is a boutique and retail supplier company based out of northern California. We are passionate about hunting for fabulous and tasteful accessories, home goods and unlimited fun knick-knacks from all over the world….”

Did they bother to read anything when they opened shop?

  34. Stephica April 29, 2010 at 9:02 am #

As an educated woman, I find RedButtonBox’s twitter profile to be insulting:

“Retail supplier. Our items sparkle, delight and inspire educated women ages 18-35. We price at wholesale and meet the needs of our discerning clientele.”

I am neither inspired by Hello Kitty rings nor delighted by a “vintage styled” button ring.

I am also uncertain how these things are meant to “sparkle” educated women such as myself.

  35. it stinks April 29, 2010 at 9:16 am #

I flagged good ol’ Redbox but I’m sure etsy will coach them to change the wording to read that all that crap is handmade or vintage.

  36. Life During Wartime April 29, 2010 at 9:17 am #

    Here is RBB’s catalog:
The catalog is integrated with their Etsy shop.

They look like yet another small importer that caters to ‘educated women 18-35′. I know the reason I am calling them out is because I am well over 50, and filled with seething hate for women who can still get pregnant AND be sought after by merchants like this. Or maybe I just don’t like resellers fakin’ it on Etsy. I am not sure which…

    Their Etsy listing says:

“WHOLESALE ONLY. Minimum quantity of 50 and sold for resell. ”

Definitely a reseller………………hello, Etsy! Is there anybody up there?

  38. insaneinthebrain April 29, 2010 at 8:22 pm #

oh yeah just like this seller: location: Sidney, ships from : China
and they do wholesale too! the items are kind of hmmmm: http://www.etsy.com/shop/daixiaole

  39. Finger in the Dike May 2, 2010 at 4:29 pm #

Here’s the link for the Dawanda store for the leather bags:

the text is slightly different in some, but the same listings and pics are there.

The leather in the tan bags looks like typical North African leather-work — Morocco, Algeria, Senegal — and of the Francophone countries.

Handmade, most likely (the leather looks like poor quality that will quickly crack) — but resale for sure.

  40. Amused May 2, 2010 at 5:55 pm #

Selling off handmade that she recently acquired from other sellers on Etsy. Ridiculous.

  41. Em May 2, 2010 at 6:41 pm #

is that vintagedamselle stupid or what? did she not read anything before listing?

    jesus…. go to freakin’ ebay.

  42. Sam May 3, 2010 at 5:14 pm #

I believe a few people must have flagged this shop by now, but they are still up and running. Listing products and making a few sales even after they were called out here. I did write to Etsy about this balant abuse and asked them why they have not done anything about it. But Etsy did what I believe is there core competency now; REAMIN SILENT n SLEEP.

Wish Etsy had some kind of leadership which took responsibility for it.

leather bags are nice specially if you get the original ones that are made by Prada or Gucci ”

We are LAKRA Artisans Createurs from checileather.on Etsy
I found your so kind 2 years old post and would to respond anyway…because your assumptions are FAKE.
It will be correct to ask question prior posting your blog comments.
Unlike the most of sellers on Etsy, we are genuine LICENSED master-crafts(wo)man and the bags on sale are made by us in our own studio.
We are FRENCH NATIVES but moved to Morocco so now, we leave and work in Morocco.
Effectively, I opened an etsy’s account prior relocation with the real French address of the time and missed to correct this after that. Following people asked me questions, I realized this issue and replaced with current location.
Probably, following benevolent people’ reports, Etsy verified twice our status.
Last time, we provided a copy of our license and 500 detailed pictures and explanations of making steps, studio, patterns, raw malarial, tools, our self…
Hoping now it’s clear for everyone we are a couple of genuine artisans.
    Thank you
