Extreme shilling- PocoLocoCreativo

http://www.etsy.com/people/PocoLocoCreativo/feedback?page=1
4 whole pages of solid +’s from 4 buyers that buy ALOT of photos and NO ONE else on Etsy, AND like to leave just + feedback every couple of days. Who do they think they are fooling??

Chicagoman“- 9 feedbacks left on 4/8,  Feb 10th, 9th & 7th  (because you know that buyers leave feedback in shifts..lol)

fruess“- 35 feedbacks. March 25th, March 12th, Feb 8th, 7th, 5th, 3rd, 2nd, AND 1st; Jan 29th and 27th. They have bought/shilled so many times they have duplicated some “purchases”.

The oldest couple of feedback she tried to add some of the shilling buzzwords we see like “great quality” (even though a couple times when they HAVE had a real sale they do not ship it correctly so it gets bent and give negatives. Irony much?? One customer “flattened it back out” so they left a positive.

diplomat“- 39 feedbacks. March 7th, 5th AND 3rd; Feb 11th, 9th, 6th, 5th, 4th, 2nd AND 1st; Jan 30th.

decorshoppen“- 6 feedbacks. 4/9, 3/9, 2/17

Not sure why so much effort has been put into this extreme case of shilling and not into finding a way to ship her product safely. I hope Etsy will remove all the fake sales/feedback.

Um…most of those photos are stolen from other etsians…i can think of one in particular: http://www.etsy.com/shop/bomobob

Someone needs to let him know!

  2. L June 26, 2010 at 9:57 am #

Ok, so maybe not stolen, but way close for comfort there. Reported them for shilling none the less.

I love how chicagoman has feedback for a listing reserved for someone else.

Too bad they are such shilling dumbasses as they have nice pictures.

  5. pussdaddy June 26, 2010 at 10:24 am #

See, when you shop on Etsy you take the chance that you won’t buy from one of the nutcases on there. Nutcases like this one, or any of the other nutcases you have talked about here. There isn’t a big shortage of nutcases on Etsy.

  6. detroit June 26, 2010 at 10:28 am #

Correct me if I’m wrong – but isn’t all that shilling really expensive? Near 100 shills @ $.30 each, plus – looks like all the items are about $25 – so 3.5% of all that goes to Etsy – right?

Isn’t that like over $100 spent on shilling? Somehow it doesn’t look like she’s gotten much of a return on this ‘investment’. LOL.

Let me know if I’m wrong though. I’ve only bought on Etsy (never sold) – so I’m not sure how the financial stuff works behind the scenes.

I don’t see how shilling is worth it, even if it only costs the shop owner a couple of bucks.

Their photos look like they fit the Etsy style, so they wasted time on shilling that would have been better spent researching and upgrading their packaging.

I would be wary of buying from a shop that had used shill purchases to that exent. That looks a bit more obsessive than breaking a rule to get some feedback.

  8. Elektra June 26, 2010 at 1:19 pm #

For all those who are not sellers on Etsy, feedback can be left before payment is provided, unfortunately. So, stores trying to build an (illegal) reputation could theoretically have multiple buying accounts, buy their own goods, leave feedback, and then ‘cancel’ the sale with Etsy to get the Etsy commission refunded….the cost to the seller is only the listing fee….

  9. Elektra June 26, 2010 at 1:29 pm #

On a side note, I always find it ‘odd’ when sellers don’t have a city of origin listed….these photos ship from the US, and yet no city is given….just plain weird…..obviously they’re coming from some ‘undesirable’ location…. usually only Asian buyers do that to hide that their goods are shipping from there….it’s only apparent when scrolling to the end of a product listing and see the country it ships from…

  10. Life During Wartime June 26, 2010 at 1:39 pm #

I don’t get that bit about not filling in a location.

I’ve lived just outside a small town with less than 1000 residents for a while, so I can understand you sometimes must protect your privacy. But you can use the nearest city or the area of the state for a location.

When I see no location for a US seller, my first thought is: drop shipper? Not always true, of course, but it looks like you’re trying to hide something.

Sheesh! You should NOT be allowed to leave FB if you haven’t paid. This offers no protection for the seller, and the sellers are Etsy’s customers. This is so stoopid.

It would be worth Etsy’s time to fix this instead of backing out FB from malicious fake buys. I dunno how often that happens, but I’ve seen it discussed in the forums.

  12. ohmeohmy June 26, 2010 at 3:20 pm #

This seller might not be shilling. Has really fabulous prints. Maybe he/ she brought his /her own customers who have been buying for a while and that’s why they don’t have any other purchases.

  13. RocksInMySocks June 26, 2010 at 3:39 pm #

Anyone need any lovely “boutique” items?

  14. Bootsy June 26, 2010 at 4:28 pm #

ohmeohmy- so because they have nice prints they couldn’t possibly shill? PUHLEASE!

Too many coincidences. 4 seperate accounts. Some buy up to 30 prints (not even AliciaBock/SharonMontrose has customers like that) but never buy from anybody else. They all leave just + feedback and all four stagger their feedback to one or two a day up to 5 times?? Um, I don’t think so. It’s pretty obvious to me.

  15. Kathy June 26, 2010 at 4:35 pm #

RocksInMySocks – That seller obviously got lost on her way to eBay. She/he does not even pretend that things are handmade, vintage or supplies.

  16. wahwah June 26, 2010 at 5:27 pm #

I don’t get this style of photography. To me they just look dirty. I can replicate these with a few minutes in photoshop.

  17. JOINAA June 26, 2010 at 6:33 pm #

I don’t see this shop as your basic Etsy Success Story.

  18. Dee June 26, 2010 at 7:54 pm #

    Shilling? Maybe.

I can say I have a buyer who has bought about 15 items from me on 3 different occasions. She has only purchased from me on etsy, so it does look like shilling.

  19. BundtPan June 26, 2010 at 9:10 pm #

Did anyone look at PocoLoco’s profile page and see the blog link? The blog is all in Swedish.

According to my favorite on-line translator, her blog’s “about me” blurb says she lives in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic. But her Etsy products ship from the U.S. — supposedly. And just about all of her customers don’t list their own location in their profiles either. Maybe they are all Swedish? Or Dominican? Or maybe they don’t really exist? My head is spinning.

  20. JohnCock June 27, 2010 at 11:19 am #

    No kidding about the nutcases.

It looks like pearlbella switched from handmade (?) jewelry and supplies to being a reseller this spring.

Take a look at this seller’s “sold” items. How many times can you sell the same pair of “vintage” glasses?

  25. wahwah June 27, 2010 at 6:05 pm #

Wow she makes a good profit on those faux retro crappy glasses.

Finally had a chance to read that forum thread.

So Etsy closed the thread, but left the newish items in that shop available for sale. WJW.

    Why am I not surprised?

  32. OtherPeoplesKids June 28, 2010 at 8:54 pm #

I’m new to this blog and had a question maybe you can help me with.

Is it shilling when a group of people get together and trade for feedback?

They trade with each other over & over & over, some of the members have more than one shop too, so they all share the same 5 or 6 buyers & are loading up feedback for each other.

Also there is some that is just plain shilling-

but…what would you call a group that works together to
load up each others feedback rating?

    That’s shilling right?

  33. Gila (11m2) June 29, 2010 at 7:26 am #

Yes – shilling is like a split virtual personality… More than one account, doing business with each other; or even talking to each other as a sock puppet in the forums.

In this case, it looks as if she might handle local sales through Etsy? Or possibly use Etsy/ Paypal as payment on craft fairs? Just because there are so many reserved listings for different people… yet always “bought” by the same one.

It’s the only thing that makes sense, unless she cancels almost every sale with Etsy to avoid fees…

  34. OtherPeoplesKids June 29, 2010 at 10:16 am #

when you find blantant, rampant shilling as I described above,
(I am not referring to the shop this thread is based on )
    what should I do?

it doesn’t seem reporting does anything- and can get you labeled a “troublemaker”, you cant bring it to the forums,
    or to the shops themselves.

What is the best course of action?

  35. wahwah July 1, 2010 at 1:23 pm #

otherpeopleskids, I would send the info to the admin here at ECO.

  36. El July 15, 2010 at 7:10 am #

pocolococreativo also has received feedback the SAME DAY as the items were purchased or in 1-2 days! kind of hard to even ship to your own country that fast.

I think this seller desperately wanted to get a reputation and look as if they sold a lot. Does seem very obsessive, yes.

  37. Elise July 10, 2013 at 11:23 pm #

I’ve been exploring for a little for any high-quality articles or blog posts on this sort of space . Exploring in Yahoo I finally stumbled upon this site. Studying this information So i am glad to convey that I’ve
