apricotbabybaby fauxvintage sunglasses & TwigGarden

26 Jul

this seller is really pushing it with these mass produced knock off sunglasses that you can get at
Forever 21 for ten bucks. She lists them and moves it to the ‘back’ of her shop so it doesn’t draw any attention.
I’ve already flagged this and Etsy just doesn’t care it seems. She needs to be called out!

can be purchased here as well and claims they are “NEW IN PACKAGE”

This seller was called out back in March.  Here:  https://etsycallout.wordpress.com/2010/03/03/etsy-3-artfire-1/#comments

Well guess who’s back?  Just dropped by Etsy and who should I see but TwigGarden?  http://www.etsy.com/shop/TwigGarden

Exactly the same jewelry seen in these shops: Wicopy, Beadwitches, Elvendale, Glenamara, Greengages, etc.

Guess this seller will just sell until she gets her first negative feedback, then go “on vacation” and pop up in another shop in a few months.

And really?  She just opened up yesterday and already has 13 sales?  Something ain’t right there, if you ask me.

I can’t even sum up the energy to flag anymore. Etsy is a joke.

  2. eyefortineye July 26, 2010 at 9:48 am #

59 sales in 3 days! huh.

  3. sick of cupcakes July 26, 2010 at 10:03 am #

    59 sales my ass.

I have been tagging all the fake vintage sunglasses for months. Etsy doesn’t care and continues to put them on the front page day after day.

  4. COCO R July 26, 2010 at 10:12 am #

How does anyone get 50+ sales in 3 days?????????????????????????????????????????????

  5. eyefortineye July 26, 2010 at 10:37 am #

    shilling?

  6. EyesWideOpen July 26, 2010 at 11:50 am #

No flagging for me. The so-called Content Team blew my trust more than a year ago and I won’t waste my time.
There are all sorts of shops on Etsy with fake designer glasses of all kinds.
I used to buy, but I have stopped even bothering to look at what’s for sale on Etsy. If it’s one of my trieds-and-trues, maybe, but if they sell elsewhere I will contact them and buy from them elsewhere.

I keep what’s mine and Etsy gets no more of it than absolutely necessary. They’ve pimped me enough and I figure they owe me at this point.

Etsy the Org and Etsy the Staff can perch on this and rotate.

I think Miss Toshiko aka apricot terd blossom cleaned her closet! Where else could you find s/xs clothing all in one shop? If they are vintage, why no other sizes?

  8. sick of cupcakes July 26, 2010 at 1:43 pm #

    Disgusted, maybe she gained weight.

  9. Inspector Yuk July 26, 2010 at 1:47 pm #

Disgusted, I was thinking the same thing.

And I just found this!!! Her :”Ethnic Aztec Print Cardigan Sweater”
is right on the Bedford Fair website: http://www.bedfordfair.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId=46631&parentCategoryId=911&categoryId=919&

  10. damn July 26, 2010 at 2:32 pm #

    shitty shilling.

    Disgusted, maybe she gained weight.
    _________
She might have gained weight but none of these items of clothing are vintage. They are all recent manufacture. Additionally, keeping a vintage store stocked is not always an easy task – thus I think it would be all the more difficult to stock an entire store with xs/s clothing only.

  12. sick of cupcakes July 26, 2010 at 3:42 pm #

Oh I know, I was just kidding. 😉

  13. Inspector Yuk July 26, 2010 at 3:51 pm #

Good Lord, if I were to empty out my closets, drawers, storage bins of clothes I can no longer wear I could fill 10 stores. And all would be old, none but maybe a handful would be considered vintage by Etsy standards.

Too bad I can’t fathom sorting, washing, measuring, photographing and listing them, I’m probably sitting on a goldmine. Oh yeah, and I’m not a liar. I can procrastinate for a few more years I guess.

  14. Inspector Yuk July 26, 2010 at 3:53 pm #

Oh, and Disgusted, it’s ‘turd blossom’.

  15. Sydney July 26, 2010 at 3:55 pm #

I was looking at the sold items from the Twiggy etsy.. they are all the same items being bought. The Misty Morn earrings (http://www.etsy.com/listing/52368456/misty-morn-earrings) have been “purchased” 4 times, and the Sea Spirit ones (http://www.etsy.com/listing/52337728/sea-spirit-jade-earrings) three times — all three on the same day!

Now, I was under the impression that everyone followed the rules on Etsy.. but am in utter disgust of what I’m (now) seeing people do.

“twig” now has 60 sales in 3 days? Looks like she moved her entire shop to the sold pages.

    What’s that all about?

  18. Ambergris July 26, 2010 at 5:53 pm #

oops! someone did a faux-pas in a treasury!

    http://www.etsy.com/treasury/4c4dc279a1876d91ff045f1c/my-rainbows

and while I am here… is it really necessary to feature artmind under the Etsy community? (perhaps that sounds a bit miffy but gosh!)

  19. sick of cupcakes July 26, 2010 at 5:56 pm #

That tacky treasury looks like FP material for the new Etsy.

  20. detroit July 26, 2010 at 7:34 pm #

    Gaaah! BARF!

  21. Inspector Yuk July 26, 2010 at 8:12 pm #

Candybead, aaah yes, a one woman show making all those bracelets and wholesaling off her .com site as well.

    In a pig’s eye.

Honestly, has anyone seen invitations going out to resellers? Cuz they’re not only sneaking in to set up shop, but brazenly acting like they are a welcomed part of the community.

I mean, it never seemed so obvious until lately.

    ______
She ignored the basic TOU’s so why should she follow the directions for making a treasury?

  23. Life During Wartime July 26, 2010 at 11:43 pm #

Candybead made another treasury, and I found what looks like an awesome fakelite (asian import weirdly carved and colored bakelite) shop in it. I am going to have bad dreams tonight after looking at those distorted carvings.

She’s been on Etsy for 3 years. But there are no long term resellers on Etsy?

  24. Blue Kitty July 27, 2010 at 3:10 am #

I have given up flagging now. It appears to be a pointless waste of time.

It looks like Etsy is going to Hell in a handbasket and nothing the members do is going to prevent it.

Its very sad, the potential for something really good was there.

  25. JohnCock July 27, 2010 at 4:12 am #

Really, I think everyone should stop flagging. Then the resellers won’t get coached and they will stand out for the frauds they are. Not to mention the waste of time.

  26. sick of cupcakes July 27, 2010 at 5:32 am #

    I agree.

69 sales and no feedback???? This is because she’s shilling. At least one “real” customer would have left something.. Very fishy.

  28. Life During Wartime July 27, 2010 at 9:09 am #

Agreed that flagging is a waste of time. At least calling the shops out here will get the word out regarding the resellers and vintage fraudsters being welcome to sell on Etsy. And some sellers do remove their problem items after being called out. Which is a better result than Etsy coaching.

  30. L July 27, 2010 at 11:36 am #

Is this the same seller as twiggarden, or do they just look THAT similar? http://www.etsy.com/shop/Cigarboxearrings

I could be wrong. But darn its hard to tell!

  31. Inspector Yuk July 27, 2010 at 12:26 pm #

L, there sure are a lot of similarities, the lighting in the photos looks identical, they both ‘name’ their jewelry in a similar fashion and their price points are in the same range.

But then, there is so much similar on Etsy, and so many sellers buy their supplies on Etsy, especially with trendy, well selling products. It’s hard to tell if it;’s the same person or someone who is trying to ‘copy’ a successful seller.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

There’s no feedback yet because she made all those “sales” in the past 4 days! One thing I have noticed is that she’s leaving feedback to some buyers, which is new for her. In her other shops (all now closed), she rarely left feedback for anyone unless it was a retaliatory negative.

In the original call out for this seller, someone mentioned her name. I’ve purchased things from Cigarboxearrings, and that person’s name doesn’t match Twiggarden’s name, and she’s in another state, so I think it’s just a case of them having similar styles.

  34. EyesWideOpen July 27, 2010 at 2:33 pm #

Okay, eyewear. Do a handmade search using keywords “vintage” and “eyewear” and you will see more handmade vintage shit that you will ever want to.
Who knows if it’s vintage? but you sure do know it ain’t handmade.

I’m sure twiggarden is buying from herself for the purpose of having those listings showing up in the recently sold section on Etsy. My sales always seem to come in groups of two or three and I think it’s because a lot of buyers use that feature.

So, some of these sales are probably from legit customers and the others are all made up. The lengths someone will go to to sell a pair of earrings for 5 or 6 bucks just blows my mind.

  36. EyesWideOpen July 27, 2010 at 3:42 pm #

WEll, if someone is that desperate to sell earrings for five or six bucks they need a refresher course in consumer math on a 6th grade level.

  37. ohmeohmy July 29, 2010 at 12:15 am #

That twig garden–I am pretty sure I saw those red acorn earrings on either etsy finds or the FP. So maybe that’s why all the sales??

Also, I remember the seller wicopy on the forums a lot. Did she have a lot of negs in her shop and close it? What’s the story about her–I don’t recall reading anything.

She hasn’t been on the FP and I can’t find her in any Etsy finds, but maybe I’ve missed that. Still, it’d be quite a lucky thing to be in the finds since she’s only been open a week and her sales started immediately after she opened.

I don’t know what the story was, other than she’s opened a series of shops all selling the same things and seems to have moved on to other shops once she gets a negative or two. Her retaliatory negatives were always an interesting read.

I think, originally, she was selling her stuff for $3 (as threedollarearrings) and then realized she could get more, so she opened other shops and started charging 3 or 4 times the price for the same earrings. The negs trickled in on those shops and she went “on vacation”.

Then she was called out here and all of her active shops stayed in vacation mode and must’ve just recently disappeared right before she opened up twiggarden.

  39. gottaovegoogle July 30, 2010 at 9:43 am #

I sure wish we could see who bought people’s items because not everyone leaves feedback, but I also want to be able to see what the sold price is, and be able to search sold items.
