This girl likes to sell just about anything as vintage.

http://www.etsy.com/listing/44324541/ – Tagged as 1950s, but a size 10 with those measurements? Doesn’t add up.
http://www.etsy.com/listing/45008151/ – Another tagged as 1950s. From the Dress Barn, which didn’t even exist until the 60s, and the sizing is recent.
http://www.etsy.com/transaction/31263891 – She even sold a dress she admits is by Isaac Mizrahi for Target as “vintage”! Come on!

“Retro Crest of London, England, 19″ x 28.25″, Bright cotton print, primary colors.
Towel selection is in excellent condition. No points to note. Vintage NEW”.

WHAT ON EARTH IS “VINTAGE NEW”?! We just thought it was funny for this item to be called “vintage” when it has the MILLENNIUM (you know, for the millennium)  Wheel on it *cough*

http://www.etsy.com/listing/46023182/towel-vintage-retro-linen-london-england Check out the US shipping fee. Normally, I would flag this but there’s no use. etsy doesn’t care and with the error in the shipping fee no one will buy it anyway.

Ridiculous that Etsy has stooped so low that one can find cheap souvenir stand CRAPOLA. Yikes!!!! It better not make the FP!!

  3. ScrapMetal August 5, 2010 at 12:53 pm #

You know, folks, maybe Etsy ought to have a little notice when someone sets up shop that goes something like this:

“If you want to sell off your old lifeless crap from the depths of your closet, point your cursor over to eBay.”

  4. Amy August 5, 2010 at 1:21 pm #

I am convinced none of this shop is handmade. http://www.etsy.com/shop/bowsnblooms

  5. sick of cupcakes August 5, 2010 at 1:35 pm #

bowsandbloom’s crap is from here, don’t see where it says it’s handmade.

I think the Professor’ needs someone to handmake her a dunce cap.

People who call Currier and Ives china “flo blue” will be required to stay after school every day until they improve their knowledge base.

Another embarassing face of vintage on Etsy.

OMG that target dress is from a year ago MAYBE two because i almost bought it for work! wtf!

  8. detroit August 5, 2010 at 5:04 pm #

That Isaac Mizrahi for Target dress is SOOOO cute!

Totally does NOT belong on Etsy though. Or, DID not, since I guess it sold…sigh.

you can’t put a belt around an a-line dress with dots or stripes and make vintage! ugh people are so annoying

    http://www.etsy.com/listing/42162923/grunge-brown-houndstooth-90s-dress

I shopped Talbots in the 1990s but I’d forgotten about their foray into the grunge look. I’m pretty sure the falling out hem was part of the “look.”

Don’t you think that high shipping fee is a typo? It makes sense to me that it is a typo. In which case I can’t see having a big discussion about it.

  12. PussDaddy August 5, 2010 at 8:18 pm #

And I have a towel somewhat like that that I picked up in London in 1986. It still looks great even though I have used it regularly. I picked up some handkerchiefs as well that I gave to my grandmother and they are still in the package, which if I wanted to sell I may label as vintage, new. As in they are vintage but not been used so still in like new condition. Not everyone labels stuff with the same wordage.

  13. PussDaddy August 5, 2010 at 8:24 pm #

So even though my other posts may have explained the shipping, and the verbage considering “new” vintage. the millennium wheel was bulit in 1999

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Eye

so the oldest this towel can be is what, 11 years old?

Not really related to the OP, but how does this seller continue to get away with the way she has her shop set up? http://www.etsy.com/shop/LittleDevilDesigns

I guess by being sneaky. I wondered how she could be selling sterling silver necklaces for $9. At first glance, it looks like a straight up charm on a chain shop, but upon further investigation, she is selling commercially made pendants alone as handmade. She sells commercially made chains separately. You have to read the listing to see this though. I guess it would be Etsy legal if she tagged the charms as supplies, but she is not doing that. I don’t believe commercially made chains are allowed at all.

I’ve flagged over and over to no avail. 😦

  15. Stacey August 6, 2010 at 6:21 am #

My guess is that they are “handmade” because she attaches a jump ring to the charm? Yeah, I thought that selling commercially made chains was a no-no. I like how she says they are “hand cast with love”. Hand cast by whom?

I checked out a few of the charms she has. It looks like most of the Pagan charms are made by Cascade Sterling. I’ve purchased from them before because Cascade’s quality is outstanding and they make everything in Washington. Those charms really should be tagged as Supplies-Commercial.

gah…another…damn me for searching after I came across the first one by accident!

  20. NotAgain August 6, 2010 at 11:25 am #

so much for the gift basket concept …..for those who cannot go out and buy $150 worth of shit from some retailer.

  21. Life During Wartime August 6, 2010 at 12:11 pm #

If Etsy had an ounce of ‘nads and cared about the TOU, a bot could have found LittleShop. She was pretty careful about avoiding putting the phrase “gift basket” anywhere in her shop. Obviously she’s read the TOU, and is flying under the radar. But she did slip up, and I found “gift basket” used as a tag for one item. If Etsy had just a few bots, LittleShop would have been busted the day she listed that oopsie.

What cracks me up is that it looks like she believes Etsy has software to identify shops or items that are in violation. She gave Etsy way too much credit.

  22. wahwah August 6, 2010 at 12:17 pm #

Throw a bunch of dollar store crap in a basket and ask for 150.00.

  23. Life During Wartime August 6, 2010 at 1:09 pm #

Yup. And she is also directing shoppers to her webstore in her Etsy Profile where she has an expanded range of items for sale.

  24. wahwah August 6, 2010 at 1:41 pm #

    Littleshopofhorrors is empty now.

  25. wahwah August 6, 2010 at 1:42 pm #

    Oh and so is Castlewood!

  26. groove is in da heart August 6, 2010 at 3:31 pm #

Yeah, they’re empty NOW. Let’s see if they re-open after they get some of that special coaching that Etsy is so good at.

  27. Life During Wartime August 6, 2010 at 4:56 pm #

There was nothing handmade, vintage or supplies in these shops.

So, why just make the ITEMS disappear? Why not make the whole darn shop disappear? What does Etsy see in these shops worth saving?

  28. Life During Wartime August 6, 2010 at 5:30 pm #

Massive new reseller shop. Everything seems to be in Supplies, even the factory handmade finished jewelry.

Here’s another shop that wants to “share” their finds with us: http://www.etsy.com/shop/bsweetvp . Some of the items might be made/altered by bsweetvp, but the listings are so vague I can’t tell. No profile.

And this “C.1920-1930” toast holder was in the HANDMADE ceramics and pottery showcase today: http://www.etsy.com/listing/52483042/kpm-victorian-toast-holder

Heh, just do a search om Etsy. under handmade for gift basket……I just finished flagging 4 of 95 pages of mostly commercial stuff with a handmade tokem item thrown in. Bleah.

I do believe that the general Etsy policy is laissez-faire unless or until they are forced or publicly embarrassed. “Doing nothing” creates its own momentum and stuff happens.

  32. PussDaddy August 7, 2010 at 10:09 am #

No offense intended, but when people find other shops why don’t they email them in instead of sticking all of them in a subject already started and then saying “I don’t mean to change the topic” because you did mean to change the topic because evidently you know that the link you left is not the topic being discussed. I usually don’t mind going off topic or complain about it but this blog happens to be mostly links and trying to keep track of of what links go to where when there are five different shops being discusses in one comment section is confusing, don’t you think? Of course it is not my blog I do agree, and I am just trying to be helpful and make a suggestion and not trying to be bossy. At least I am not trying to be as bossy as much as people are not trying to be off topic anywya.

  33. kitten August 7, 2010 at 7:45 pm #

I agree with everything PussDaddy said. It is confusing!

  34. amused August 7, 2010 at 11:05 pm #

Confusing sometimes yes, but I doubt ECO has time to separately post all of the links that are submitted as it is. Many of the ‘off topic’ links do seem to result in shops being shut down. Just my two cents:)

  35. PussDaddy August 7, 2010 at 11:25 pm #

Ok. I was only trying to help.

  36. PussDaddy August 7, 2010 at 11:27 pm #

Sorry for my typos too. And since going off topic is ok, has anyone else noticed that poetsummer’s shop with all the bad feedback is gone? I am not sure if Etsy closed it or she did tho, nor do I care.

  37. Eh August 8, 2010 at 7:18 am #

I agree with amused. “We don’t need no stinking topics.”
