This seller was included in the Etsy Finds a couple days ago. Take a look for yourself, in all of her SOLD items where you can see the neck, it looks like she cut the tags out and then blurred where the tag was inside the neck. WTF?

Just one example:

This shop is pathetic. Even etsy admin can see it’s a scam and a bad one at that. So, what do they do…reward her with etsy finds. I reported her along with 100 others. Let’s see how fast etsy will get rid of her. I’m not holding my breath.

Is this seller for real? When they list a retail value and their cost, it makes me pause. This is their Etsy site and ring their “collective” made:

Here is their website and the same ring:

I don’t know why I care since Etsy will never take them down, but they were featured in a treasury.

that is most likely a forver21 or H&M top! what was she claming them as?

boots….she claims to make them herself.

    Wow. It’s a blurry circle extravaganza….

Even if it WAS handmade, I would want to know what the hell they were hiding with all that blurring. It’s sad that some buyers apparently don’t know (or care) to question things like that!

Dead giveaway is the lack of materials listed. Anyone who actually made this would list the type of fabric at the very least. Etsy just doesn’t care anymore, as long as the pictures have that hip artsy look with lots of grey backgrounds and the seller says they are handmade or vintage or whatever, anything and everything goes. Obviously since they promote them in the Finds and on the front page over and over again.

Do you think Etsy promotes all this crap because they themselves are not sure but know if they stick it under every-one’s nose this blog will answer any questions and doubts they might have? ROFL

I find it amusing that the feedback she got today was for some hoodoo oil she bought. Maybe she will put a curse on ECO. lmao

that’s the retouch tool in picasa, not even photoshop!

  10. detroit August 18, 2010 at 2:35 pm #

I was thinking that someone who’s doing such crappy ‘retouching’ wouldn’t be using photoshop. Makes more sense that it’s a tool that comes with photobucket, or something. lol.

This store’s MO is positively mystifying. Like, what happens when she sends them the garment? Is there a ‘Gap’ tag in it (that wasn’t in the photos)? Or is there a hole / mangled seams, and some straggling threads where the tag once was? I mean, if she had removed the tags carefully and well, there’d be no need for the retouching fuckery in the first place!

And yes, the lack of fabric / sizing info is always a dead giveaway that someone’s reselling.

I can barely use my sewing machine, but I still have a basic grasp of fabric terms, fiber contents, garment measuring lingo. And if someone was genuinely sewing the items, they are sure to include that info.

There is no end to the lengths people go to, just to scam someone out of a buck or two. It’s always just vexing when Etsy PROMOTES and FEATURES the scammers!

There’s one listing that she says is “soft as jersey.” well, is it jersey or not?. Maybe it’s a really really soft interlock.

her shop is “on vacation”. empty, but awaiting her return?

She must be out hitting the thrift shops and the end of season sales to find some more wrinkled items she can take horrible photos of. Blech!

I love that… even looks like the shirt is ripped and will fray where the tag was.

Etsy absolutely does not give a fuck; the employees are apathetic and the CEO is corrupt in spirit.

I like how their new thing is to deny that they used to have more restrictive rules about collectives – the fact their rules about that have always been poorly thought out, poorly expressed, poorly explained and inconsistently enforced makes it easier to deny, hmm?

And now instead of booting Chinese companies who pretend to be selling handmade off the site, they coach them in how to write their shop announcement and profiles to make it sound like they’re a small, family business.

Etsy is a betrayal of their customers, a betrayal of their (claimed) values, and probably is illegal.
