Shameful. Clearly not handmade, yet selling. 😦

  2. tippy September 1, 2010 at 9:44 pm #

this is the answer to that age-old question:

  3. TooDumb September 1, 2010 at 9:58 pm #

nice. the WEdding category is full of scammers, they know when they have someone who is
    a) young
    2) distracted
    c) desperately buying useless shit
    4) ready to be taken advantage of
    e) inexperienced and naive.

Give me the old, experienced broads who know what the fuck they are doing.

tippy, are you serious? Take it to the etsy boards.

  5. girl in the corner September 2, 2010 at 5:01 am #

Etsy clearly does not give a shit anymore and has no intentions of doing anything about this. They’ve seen that the money can’t pour in fast enough from this reseller wedding crap, and no way are they giving this cash cowl up. They’re turning a blind eye.

  6. JohnCock September 2, 2010 at 5:46 am #

Sorry tippy. I misunderstood your post. It was early.

  7. Wolf September 2, 2010 at 5:48 am #

Given that several photos are strinkingly similar, I’m betting either all 4 shops are owned by one person or all 4 shops managed to swipe the same photos.

    Yeah. Way to go Etsy.

Sorry if this doesn’t belong here, but a comment in this thread has me shaking my head at etsy:

    First post on page 2.

Seriously, etsy? Just not handling them? How about hiring people who will do the job? And doesn’t it tell them something if they are receiving so many flags that they can’t handle them all?

    WTF Etsy?

    ‘Cash cowl’ — love it!

The 3 week made to order ones probably take a lot of time to put the ribbon on.

Not Bel Canto again–I reported her shop a few months ago and she appeared on here with a story about how her husband was manning the shop and the items that were from a wholesale site had slipped in there by accident. She does make some of her designs, but there is no excuse for the above…

  12. Actual jewelry designer September 2, 2010 at 7:34 am #

On second thought, what BelCanto has done will probably be considered Etsy legal because she has added some small rhinestones to the ties of the headband…sigh…

    $8 shipping for a bracelet.

She’s shipping from Canada where mailing costs are extreme. The only thing honest in the listing is the shipping.

When the first reports of reselling bridal shops came in to the Etsy staff, they should have reviewed all the Etsy shops listing ‘handmade’ pearl and/or rhinestone bridal items. And compared their items with online and print catalogs from the wholesale sources.

And, no, these 4 shops aren’t the same person if they are located in the SE USA, Ontario and Calgary (and somewhere else in Canada, not specified).

In response to Jenn’s thread link, I wonder what criteria admin use to decide which flags get dismissed (I’ll bet none of the off-site linking/fee avoidance flags ever are!). I wonder if they’ve set little quotas on our accounts, and anyone who’s particularly vigilant about doing Etsy’s work for them gets their flags ignored after they’ve made a certain number of reports. It’s a shame no one picked up on that comment, it’s worth its own thread alone (which would quickly be closed, since you’re not supposed to share the contents of private admin convos, as I recall, because God knows, information should be shared in the least efficient and most case-by-case process possible).

  17. JohnCock September 2, 2010 at 10:47 am #

belcanto is one of the biggest pieces of shit scammers on etsy. pathetic.

  18. sickofdishonesty September 2, 2010 at 10:52 am #

oops, thanks woody, I didn’t even see that.

  19. ScrapMetal September 2, 2010 at 12:30 pm #

What I find so ridiculous is that Etsy admins admit they aren’t doing anything to stop resellers, (if that was a real convo) yet the second someone “outs” a reseller on the forums, they swoop right in and slap someone’s wrist. Pretty hypocritical if you ask me.

  20. Inspector Yuk September 2, 2010 at 12:47 pm #

Oh you silly-nillys! They simply get their supplies at the same place and copy each other! There are no resellers on Etsy!!

  21. Nicole September 2, 2010 at 3:44 pm #

The headbands are all Etsy legal- it’s a bracelet sold as is on eBay etc with ribbons added to the ends of the bracelet.

  22. Nicole September 2, 2010 at 3:46 pm #

There are a few earrings in the lottie da shop that are clearly resell items and bel canto has already been exposed as a liar, haven’t had time to look at the other shops items though.

  23. Brian September 3, 2010 at 6:13 am #

The bracelet is on orientaltreasurestrading (dot) com for $20 and they probably bought it there and then added the ribbon. (It’s called “Victorian Style Bracelet” and the item # there is SO-58.) That’s the wholesale site that lots of etsy sellers use to resell things to brides.

  24. ohmeohmy September 4, 2010 at 11:34 am #

This bridal store is FULL of resold items. There’s no way in hell this seller is making these bracelets and earrings:

  25. PissMeOff September 5, 2010 at 4:37 pm #

On vacation– must have a helopad on the roof.

  26. Cat Power September 5, 2010 at 7:54 pm #

They had 868 sales in a year and a half! Take a look at the sold items if you didn’t see the shop before Vacation began. (sic)

Would love to know how much they charged for the rhinestone earrings that they probably bought by the gross.

I wasn’t serious. I was poking fun at all the board broads who ask that same question every day. There’s their answer…

  28. Nicole September 6, 2010 at 2:32 am #

a google cache search shows the neo mirror earrings were sold for $44

i find this to be so sad as someone who handmakes bridal hair accessories in the wedding category. an awesome maker just left etsy because she was so frustrated and couldn’t compete. they are so overpriced and not even prong set, too bad for the people that bought them, as i am sure all the stones have fallen out by now
