2 Emails- ronal63p, whimsicalwatchesinc

21 Nov

I am writing to report the store seller Ron - store name is "ronal63p".
He is selling jewelry made in Bali, Afghanistan, Tibet and Nepal.
This jewelry was clearly not made by him, as he admits the collection
comes from the jewelry stores he managed over the decades, one he says
having been shut down in 1995. This is in gross violation of etsy's
policies regarding what can and cannot be sold on etsy. The items must
be handmade by the seller, and clearly none of the items he is selling
were made by him. Please, he is nothing more than a re-seller and
allowing these kinds of re-sellers on etsy diminishes etsy's integrity
as a website. Arguably he is selling vintage jewelry from Asia so that
I guess is allowable, but most of his stuff is not allowable. Either
etsy should change their policy or become the next eBay, which clearly
they are. I will be loyal to eBay as long as these re-sellers persist
on etsy and the etsy management does nothing to police and enforce
their own selling standards.

Thanks for your time.

Even though their “About” page says “Whimsical Watches is more than 15 years old and started as a hobby of an Artist in Atlanta, GA – USA”, it further says “My wife April and I purchased Whimsical Watches, Inc. in the Spring of 2007.”
I assume Etsy considers this a collective.

    ronal63p –
needs to get off etsy. he’s been selling since MARCH and no one has reported this guy? c’mon his profile even says he doesn’t make the stuff.

I think ronal63p would be allowed to sell pendants and beads he did not make as Supplies. Most of the items I clicked on were in the Supplies category, but he needs to removed the ‘handmade’ tag since he did not make these items.

It is also possible the earrings listed as Jewelry (handmade) were assembled by him (attaching a small pendant and some beads to an earwire finding). So that would be Etsy legal as well. If he purchased the earrings already made in 1995, then nope — does not belong on Etsy.

Nothing made after 1990 is ‘vintage’ according to the Etsy TOU. I doubt any of the items in ronal63p’s shop are 20 years old. Similar, if not identical, items can be found for sale as new jewelry components in catalogs, on websites, at shows, etc.

Those watches are about the tackiest looking things I’ve seen in a long time.

LOOK who is back on ETSY!!!

sorry Thomas, but you’ll have to try a little bit harder if you want to try to fool me!

Just an update for anone new out there… Etsy did shut down Oriafashion as they were proven to be re-sellers (a factory in China) Thomas, who appears to run the business has gone off on quite a few wild rants here since his shop got closed down and in one he mentioned that he was going to re-open his shop on Etsy…

Sure enough he did re-open a new Etsy shop just a few days after Etsy shut down the first one. Here is the new shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/Angelahandmade

When asked how many people he had working in the NEW Etsy shop and here is what he had to say:
“We had one girl listing dresses on etsy , communicate with customers and editting pictures, one girl taking pictures and do quality control, one girl making delivery. 3 girls for jobs on etsy, they graduated from universities and work quite hard and did execellent job.
We have one tailor who worked in tailoring dresses for thirty years. He tailor the dresses, and 3-4 professional workers who have more than 8 years experience of sewing clothes and dresses.
they are people who are doing jobs for customers on etsy.
Sure, Our company have other employees and factories, which make massive products for resellers,
all of them work very hard and work with love to help brides.
when the girl listing the products saw all the listings were suspended that day, she was very angry. it took her one month’s hard work to list all the items and make pictures and write descriptions, she really works with love , hope to help brides to get their dream dresses.
I received the email later from etsy, I was also very angry about that.
etsy removed our listings without any notice in advance, later sent us emails to notify us that our listings are not handmade, I replied that the wedding dresses are handmade, then we got a reply from etsy, says that we have factories, we are too large to etsy.”

————- Apparently Thomas knows darn well that Etsy said his company was too large to be on Etsy, but then he goes and says he is opening another shop on Etsy. Earth to Etsy… come in Etsy… this is INSANE!

After reading the profile for this swell shop, I think that many are deliberately bungling the English language. So many of these announcements plus any correspondence you get from them can be interpreted more than one way. I think its deliberate to deceive, not a poor understanding of the language.

    I miss Garagetsy.

6000 IN SALES? yes, I’m shouting. @#$%^&*^%$#@ The item in #7 is listed in vintage, this item has accessories as the main tag. http://www.etsy.com/listing/62361419/the-tiniest-camera-on-sterling-chain

This is getting more and more frustrating. It is darn near impossible to be found on etsy due to the mistagging and the resellers. AF is dead for me. No idea where to go. Etsy was a good thing until it got too big.

    I miss Garagetsy, too!!!

I think Garagetsy blog was upsetting too many violators on Etsy, even though most callouts never mentioned the shop name. Yesterday’s ‘Get The Look’ Dorque feature had a bunch of newer items listed as vintage, as well as handmade items also listed as vintage. Like this one:

The listing clearly says the seller made the item, so it can’t be vintage.

I am seriously considering starting a call out blog about vintage absurdities on Etsy. Maybe during the holidays when things are slow.

From Thomas’ new store pruduct descriptions, “…this wedding dress is custom made, 100% handmade… It usually takes 7-12 business days to make it.”

Yeah. Cuz it would totally only take me only TWELVE DAYS to make an ENTIRE CUSTOM SIZED WEDDING DRESS.

Aren’t most apparel items handmade or at least hand assembled? The problem on Etsy is that now the determination isn’t whether an item is (hand)made in a factory setting or not, but the SIZE or OUTPUT of the factory.

I am not defending Thomas being on Etsy. But if he thinks ‘vintage’ is something that is currently manufactured, he probably doesn’t understand why his dresses don’t qualify for an Etsy shop.

Etsy should have done a much better job defining allowed factory handmade before they started cherry-picking which resellers could stay and which would be shut down. It looks kind of arbitrary now.

    Lifetime During War –
You should totally start up a vintage uh-oh’s blog!

  14. Maul November 22, 2010 at 2:19 pm #

Polestar must search daily for “repeat” “front page” and other search terms on the Etsy forums, because she shows up in every thread concerning them and types SOUR GRAPES.

“I am sure they do that all the time and it shows. People get sick of seeing “repeats” due to sour grapes, and the whole time they are sucking on those, they don’t see the newer shops. ”

  15. Garagetsy November 22, 2010 at 2:38 pm #

I am overwhelmed by the response of readers. Even though the blog has been made private, I still get communication through the suggestion form on cached Google pages. I will return.

    More soon.

  16. Life During Wartime November 22, 2010 at 2:40 pm #

I’ll have to go back and read that thread. Saw it when it started but I had to get to the grocery store before their was no food left other than canned pumpkin. turkey, cranberry sauce, redi-whip, white bread, corn products and various types of potatoes. Carbocide.

PoleStar couldn’t be more wrong. You can have lovely items, good photos, follow all the TOU, promote — do everything right — and Etsy will treat you with ignore unless your items fit the Etsy style parameters. I haven’t checked out which shop was featured as ‘fresh’ twice, but I recall thinking ‘here are a bunch of new shops that are me-tooing’ when I saw the earlier Finds with newer shops. I mean, if an artist or artisan has a unique vision which they express well with their items, their shop won’t fit the Etsy Trends Marketing List of stale 90s styles.

  17. Life During Wartime November 22, 2010 at 2:45 pm #

Garagetsy, I am so glad to hear that you will be back in future! Because you are far nicer and more professional than I could hope to be.

  18. Life During Wartime November 22, 2010 at 3:14 pm #

Oooooh! Same thread. PoleStar just acknowledged that her hubster is an Etsy employee. PoleStar Gate!

  19. Life During Wartime November 22, 2010 at 3:19 pm #

Now she says she was stirring the pot. What a disturbed person…Etsy should seriously hire PoleStar. She has the perfect personality for it.

  20. kitten November 22, 2010 at 5:33 pm #

I am amazed at how unprofessional Polestar is. GAWD I could never say the things she says to others. If I were as pimped as she is by Etsy, I’d be so thankful and keep my nose to the grindstone! Going into the forums and being a pompous ass would never enter my mind. I wouldn’t do it under my buyer name and ABSOULUTELY NOT under my seller name. Just disgraceful.

As a buyer I would think that this is how she would behave if I had a problem with my order. NEVER do business with an unhinged seller!

  21. burnt toast November 22, 2010 at 5:36 pm #

And of course BrokenGhost who previously got herself on the FP by making treasuries of her own stuff from a sock puppet has to chime in on the thread. wish someone there would have put that little tidbit into the convo.

and WHAT is this about PoleStar’s hubby working for Etsy. hmm. now it all makes sense. what a freaking joke Etsy has become!
honestly I was just at the store earlier this evening and ran into a seller I know that has even been a “featured seller” and she said she is fed up with the BS and plans on leaving in the next year.

ohh- just read the update#19 so PoleStar’s hubby DOESN’t work for Etsy?
off to read the thread. heaven help me.

  22. em November 22, 2010 at 8:33 pm #

She said later she was joking, but I didn’t get the sarcasm at first and didn’t really believe her when she took it back anyways. When I first joined Etsy I sort of looked up to her shop (I know everyone and their brother makes it now, but I honestly think her shop is quite nice) but her behavior is the forums is a complete turn-off. She is the only frequently featured seller who feels the need to hijack these threads and make it into the ‘sour grapes’ argument.

  23. em November 22, 2010 at 8:55 pm #

That should read: (I know everyone and their brother makes wire wrapped jewelry..)

  24. sick of cupcakes November 22, 2010 at 9:13 pm #

Ya, even a shmuck like me managed to make my own wire wrapped jewelry so as not to give etsy any business. Took me all of ten minutes.

  25. jenjasmine November 22, 2010 at 9:21 pm #

Polestar certainly sits on a very high horse. I was kind of shocked by her comments in that thread. But, I guess etsy has a caste system, and she knows she is in the top tier, so ‘huzzah’ for her.

And I hate that word ‘huzzah’ ever since nutmeg- blast her.

  26. The Unknown Etsian November 22, 2010 at 10:23 pm #

The part that really cracked me up was Pole Star claiming she never reads “those” blogs. (like this one). Who the hell claimed to be her awhile back and bitched at everyone? She is a real unhappy person and it just radiates from her.

  27. Catish November 23, 2010 at 3:41 am #

Nutmeg is still around. And she’s a doula now… gods help those kids…

  28. The Unknown Etsian November 23, 2010 at 7:42 am #

Old post that someone resurrected. I am sure she is out there somewhere but not on Etsy.

Back in business. Thanks ECO and readers.
