ShtrafBat

22 Nov

This shop had a scarf on the FP a couple days ago…
http://www.etsy.com/shop/ShtrafBat
Wondered how much of their work they do on their own…
Let’s see their website http://www.russiancriminaltattoos.com/products
says “We use a Cut & Sew production company that makes our very own quality shirts that have the MIR tag on them.”

ok. so they aren’t making their own stuff?

Well, depends. Are they designing the pictures and such that adorn their shirts that they say they were inspired by russian mafia tats?

If so, that’s good enough for Etsy anymore.

    *rolls eyes*

There’s a discrepancy in their descriptions. One says they reuse/redesign military things, and the other says that they use a company who makes their T-shirts and such for them.

So it looks like they conveniently said one thing on Etsy and something entirely different on their website.

    They’re from Brooklyn…they’re golden.

  4. Cat Power November 22, 2010 at 9:03 pm #

Their models sure are a sorry looking bunch of unwashed proletariat!
But then again, that’s what the Etsy hipsters love, isn’t it?

  5. sick of cupcakes November 22, 2010 at 9:11 pm #

I agree with Lisa. Brooklyn=safe as kittens.

What is this sh*t? Calling out Etsy? Like people that dont make their own stuff?

U guys got nothing better to do with your lives?

We print on everything ourselves. Thats called handmade, in my book.

As for shtrafbat, 90% of the items there, are military surplus that we alter, reconstruct or print on. That Cowl that youre talking about was made by me from a US military scarf

What u read on the website only applies to that site.

HAHAHAHAHAHAH *wipes tears* Oh this is priceless.

I love when obvious mass producers try to defend themselves.

    shtrafbat or is it shitbat?

  9. The Unknown Etsian November 23, 2010 at 7:46 am #

    Garagetsy is back. Yay!!!!

  10. Roman MIR November 23, 2010 at 8:09 am #

Wow, I am a mass producer? I didnt even know.

This sh*t here is so pathetic, that its not even funny. Who came up with this retarded blog?

People are always quick to sh*t on someone elses parade, without really having any reason or argument.

But thanx for throwing me extra traffic and a few extra sales. I’ll take what i can get i guess.

    Hooray re: garagetsy!

I don’t know about this one. At any rate, the photos, especially the backgrounds, are great.

Aren’t there any ‘normal’ artists in Brooklyn? Is everyone edgy and urban and, and, I don’t even know how to describe it. It’s like something in the water there.

  14. burnt toast November 23, 2010 at 12:27 pm #

you can print on a t-shirt from wal-mart and call it handmade,
so as long as he or she is doing their own printing, they are Etsy legal…

Roman MIR, so you are saying that you do all the work yourself? Because, you keep saying “we”.

  15. Roman MIR November 23, 2010 at 2:37 pm #

We as in Me and My Partner Val. Thats us in the picture on the front page with the tools.

I think some of your listings are just confusing. What I’m getting is – you take vintage t shirts and screen print on them yourself? If so, then the listing is sort of confusing. It has to either be stated vintage or handmade and the one I looked at implies both. I’m not sure why your shop was called out but maybe that’s why? No need to get catty.

  17. em November 23, 2010 at 4:45 pm #

Oh, and I doubt you got a “few extra sales” from this blog, but nice effort trying to make us feel bad.

  18. Holly November 23, 2010 at 5:03 pm #

    haha Shitbat 🙂

  19. burnt toast November 23, 2010 at 5:54 pm #

ok- cool with me, but I believe you are supposed to claim your shop as a collective if it is more than one person working on it. and disclose who does what in your profile.

i am more concerned about the factories in china that keep invading Etsy-

and Roman, I know you said that this site is garbage or something to that extent, but if you are legit (like you say you are and i believe you) you should be OUTRAGED at the massive amounts of scammers that are on Etsy posing as independent designers and taking business away from small business owners like you.

  20. burnt toast November 23, 2010 at 5:56 pm #

    Hey roman-
btw, I really like the cowl…
and congrats on getting on the FP.

  21. Roman MIR November 23, 2010 at 8:03 pm #

Yea I saw them, they sell that crap on ebay and Ioffer. Its crap

  22. JoJoy November 23, 2010 at 8:31 pm #

I thought your shop was just another person that drew up some crap and sent it off to a little factory to have it produced and was pretending to be one person doing all your stuff on your own. When the website doesn’t match the etsy shop info, a shop is kind of fair game to be dissected and put through the wringer.
And the majority of the call out’s are big ones. For example take a look at the Oriafashion post here on this site. The “owner” is a piece of work got shut down by Etsy and then opened another shop within days. And once in a while you find a little shop that looks innocent, and then they end up being a-wipes that are buying china stock and swearing up and down it is handmade right here in the USA.
Most people that aren’t re-sellers get pulled down off of here… The admin seems pretty fair about shite like that.

  23. jenjasmine November 24, 2010 at 9:29 am #

Well, Roman got a sale from me. I don’t think he’s a reseller, and I think his stuff is cool.

I didn’t buy it on etsy, though. 🙂

Thanks for introducing me to his shop!

  24. Madmomma November 24, 2010 at 12:02 pm #

I agree after hearing what he had to say, not a re-seller after all.
    I like a happpy ending!

  25. Artfire Seller November 26, 2010 at 6:36 pm #

Congrats, then, Roman, on making the Etsy Dudes email.
