Good catch! I never found this reseller because they made their first sale the day after they opened their shop. Shows what shoppers are looking for on Etsy.

The sad part is that she doesn’t even claim to be making that crap.

  3. imwithya December 1, 2010 at 12:02 pm #

Looks like her shop is empty now.

  4. Life During Wartime December 1, 2010 at 1:32 pm #

Always a bad sign when the items disappear, and the shop remains. That means the tender-hearted HeyMichelle is grasping at straws hoping one thing sold by this shop was handmade by the seller. I mean, it’s so grinch-like to close a reseller during the Holidays!

I think SparklePeach/DearestClementine/Peaches4Me/GardenSecrets/KristenPurcell/ETC needs a brand new thread. If Etsycorp admin are really reading this blog, it might be helpful.

She is still receiving negative feedback on her SparklePeach account: http://www.etsy.com/people/SparklePeach/feedback

All the while she’s opened a new account: http://www.etsy.com/shop/GardenSecrets?ga_search_query=gardensecrets&ga_search_type=seller_usernames

Check out the first sentence of SP’s policy page: http://www.etsy.com/shop/SparklePeach/policy

and the first sentence of GardenSecrets announcement. Exact duplicates.

    Duplicate photos in listings: http://www.etsy.com/transaction/38928777
    in GardenSecrets.
    http://www.etsy.com/transaction/37874086
in SparklePeach. There are other examples, I’ve only included one.

This is the same person ripping off customers in a new shop AGAIN. Not the first time she’s done this, not even the second time she’s done this.

WAKE UP ETSY! You are giving yourself a bad name by continuing to allow unethical sellers like Kristin Purcell to operate on your site. She is a thief.

    yup- empty, that was FAST…
amazing the shop was open as long as it was- 97 sales. sheesh

  7. theunknownetsian December 1, 2010 at 3:03 pm #

And good ole Kristin is on Artfire doing the wah wah about how Etsy shut her shop down unexpectedly for no reason. And that they have done it multiple times. Etsy must like unwarranted negative publicity.

I think she’s making so many sales because she renewed her ENTIRE gardensecrets shop an hour ago, and probably does so daily. I think I mentioned this on another post… but it’s probably another part of the reason why she keeps switching shops.

I really don’t think there is any coaching going on. I think that they know when they are called out and just empty or go on vacation until it blows over. I doubt there is ANY ACTION AT ALL concerning flags.

What do you think about this shop?:

    This is marked as ‘supplies’:

Except for the fact they ship from Thailand, my guess would be a stock up sale at Big Lots.

So extremely frustrating to see this over and over on Etsy. As racist as this may sound, I wish someone would either 1) ban all asian products, or 2) do their f*cking jobs at Etsy and properly moderate the shops. This does include U.S. shitshops, too, btw. Scammers everywhere, but especially from China, Shanghai, Thailand and India.

  14. Life During Wartime December 2, 2010 at 2:49 pm #

I think some of the Asian shops are run by people savvy enough to know that the Etsy TOU doesn’t include them, and word their Profiles and Descriptions in a scamster way. But other Asian sellers really don’t get the nuances of the definition of ‘handmade’. Or vintage, either. I actually saw a shop from India selling (supposedly) vintage items on Etsy recently that looked like Pier One. Sure, it’s possible they are ‘scamming’. Or the seller may be confused about how ‘vintage’ differs from ‘traditional style’.

  15. detroit December 2, 2010 at 6:23 pm #

It’s not racist to be irked by crap from East Asia. They don’t call it the ‘factory to the world’ for nothing.

Fact is, people from China, Thailand, etc. are no more or less honest than anyone else.

But, lets face it, due to the Walmartization of our fast fashion world, they have the access to sweatshop garments that we don’t.

Even if I WANTED to resell some factory made garments from here in the midwest on Etsy, I couldn’t! We don’t have any garment factories here. We don’t have ANY factories here -lol.

Yes, you can say the Asian reseller problem is….a problem, without being racist.

BUT – I always say, by not addressing it, Etsy foments anger against Asian shops, and Etsy IS responsible for any anti-Asian sentiments.

That…in addition to being in m’fing BROOKLYN, and being as lily white as they are (excuse me, except for the Indian programmers) in terms of employees, leads me to believe that Etsy is more than a lil bit racist.

    Etsy is very racist.

  16. WhistlingDixie December 3, 2010 at 7:21 pm #

It’s about ignorance and ignoring, not racism at Etsy. The whole flagging bullshit you still believe in? I sure don’t. Its like the old fashioned Circular File (trash can).

  17. Jinx December 3, 2010 at 7:56 pm #

I thought Etsy said that they were going to crack down on re-sellers… What the heck?
But they have the manpower to create the kindergarten circle bulls*** and have resorted to slapping mutes on a bunch of people.
What a flipping joke. I thought Etsy was supposed to be a platform for artisans to peddle their wares.

  18. WhistlingDixie December 4, 2010 at 4:37 am #

    Etsy speaks with forked tongue

  19. I was muted December 4, 2010 at 6:48 pm #

I was told a 7-day muting. That was during the summer and I’m still dumb. A wee bit too vocal about resellers and sellers who knowingly practice tagstuffing and false advertising. Totally worth it, being mute there.

  20. pajac December 19, 2010 at 7:54 pm #

Etsy is becoming Ebay. I am a jewelry maker trying to compete on price with Asian wholesalers. Guess who’s going to win.

Example. This seller is advertising a piece of jewelry as REAL TURQUOISE. I send him a convo-is it turquoise or Howlite (which it is). This is the listing and his reponse.

    http://www.etsy.com/listing/55733594/big-seven-turquoise-gemstones-flowers

    by handheadheart profile shop contact

This is real howlite. a kind of remake of Turquoise.

    Thank you so much,
    19 December 2010 9:43pm EDT

What the heck is a remake of turquoise????
Handmade my butt. Handmade by a bunch of little kids working for a dollar a day. And then they are misrepresenting the materials. How do you compete.

    Etsy-Ebay-not much difference.

No profile, no favorites, no nothing. Few sales and already bad feedback. Definately a buy in bulk from China reseller.
