How do you have duplicate 1930’s dresses?!  I wonder what Stop Staring would think of this.

And this WangFu posted:

Whoa, ha ha! Those phillips head screws! LOLZ! I feel bad for the buyer.
Tons of not-old in her solds, too. She is severely clueless! Or a big liar.

The dress in the iconicstyles shop is listed as Handmade/Clothing, not Vintage. The question I have about the item is: custom handmade or factory made in a range of sizes? I vote for the second option.

It obviously isn’t a copy of a real 30s dress. It’s like 12 inches too short!

The fake antique lamp was called out before; don’t remember if it was here on ECO or another blog. Great work spotting the screws! I just checked the (original) screws on an authentic 30s lamp I have in my living room. They are brass, with slightly domed heads meant to be operated by human fingers to hold the glass shade in position. No slats for a screwdriver. The buyer here got royally screwed!

I can buy lamps like that here all day, especially in the Old Market.

  3. Marisa December 24, 2010 at 2:56 pm #

The lamp seller doesn’t say that it’s from the ’30s – she explicitly says she bought it at a gallery (NOT an antiques shop) in the 1980s, so it’s 30 years old (or so).

wow, nice thinking with those screws. I never would have guessed something like that would give away non-vintageness. Sorry I’m a little loopy and making up words…

  5. Life During Wartime December 24, 2010 at 3:17 pm #

I seriously doubt the lamp dates to the 1980s!

I have a reproduction Art Deco lamp I purchased in the early 90s. The screws are the same type as those found on my old lamp as described in my comment above. The black finish faux antiques started hitting antiques malls in the mid-2-late 1990s, cheaply made stuff from Asia with little attention to getting the details right…like the screws.

The seller has tagged the item as ‘vintage’ ‘antique’ ‘art deco’ and ‘art nouveau’. It is none of the above.

This is not a gallery quality piece. There are reproductions of works by famous artists and designers that were originally created in the early 20th Century sold in galleries. The production values for these items are high, to match the asking prices. This is a piece of cheap crap.

Referring to the dress not the lamp Marisa

Sydney, jerseyFerrari looks like a thrift shop from the poorer section of town…ick!

Both Viola Vintage and Iconic Styles have been called out here:
    https://etsycallout.wordpress.com/2010/11/23/reader-comment-violavintage-jorjaclare-iconicstyles/

They run numerous shops on Etsy if you read the above link. Stop Staring would have to contact Etsy for using their picture on Iconic Styles. Copyright infringement.

I don’t get why people buy from shops that just post pictures of celebs or steal pictures from shops like Stop Staring, but obviously with their sales consumers don’t care.

Georgia has cleaned up a lot of her wording since being called out here not that Etsy would of closed her down anyways.

The thread has been closed, but I dunno if the shop will be.

Had to laugh at the notion this seller never read the Etsy TOUs and other site info. Aw c’mon, cupcakettes! The boilerplate in the shop shows that they have studied Etsy carefully before setting up. An ignorant reseller wouldn’t bother typing in all that bilge about ‘handmade’.

  13. em December 25, 2010 at 2:22 pm #

LOL at that thread. Love how loosewire closes it by trying to say that flagging is the “most effective and efficient means.”

    I call BS!!!

  14. Life During Wartime December 25, 2010 at 2:49 pm #

Yup, BS and nothing but. Another violating shop called themselves out a bit later, and admin blew it off the site as well as closing the thread. They deleted the second reseller because it was some kind of precious metals and coin dealer (guessing from context because all links go to the UH OH page) with no possible fit for Etsy. Calling out in the forums works best, if the shop isn’t going to be coached and coddled by Etsy. Obviously, Etsy admin would like to keep NaturalBamboo around as a pet.

ECO, maybe NaturalBamboo should have its own call out post so we can see what Etsy does — or doesn’t — do about this shop?

What is it that Regresty does with the buy it here there. To get a custom petticoat go to Viola Vintage price $60.00
Or go to her lower priced shop and find the same item $50.00
    http://www.etsy.com/listing/61986500/three-layer-tulle-net-petticoat-by

You would think she would be smart enough not to list the same stuff or use the same pictures!

    Forgot Viola’s link:

hahaha… Karma is a real bitch. This company is now being sued! check out the link:

  22. EtsyDontCare January 15, 2011 at 12:33 pm #

karma the company “Stop Staring” is being sued not the Etsy store. They are only using pictures from Stop Staring that is allegedly stealing from Bette Davis. Iconic Styles or Viola vintage are not affiliated with Stop Staring they just use the pictures.
