Instyleboutique, classybrideboutique, vivianfeiler

There is something very fishy about these shops. Vivian Feiler appears to have 3 shops on Etsy. She claims to be a jewelry designer. The 3 shops all have the same items. Each shop has the other shop listed in their favorites. Supposedly, everything is made by the person; however, the items just have a wholesaler/reseller feel to them.

Each description in her other two shops includes the line: “Please feel free to visit our website at http://www.vivianfielerdesigns.com” so, yes they are the same seller.

Ooops – typo – should have been vivianfeilerdesigns.com.

Same shit different day. Good research.

Yes, good call-out! Same type of items as the shop called out in yesterday’s post. They could be attaching the pendants to the chains and earwires. Or they could be buying completed jewelry and reselling. I am sure both finished pieces and components are available wholesale. It’s just not possible to know if the seller makes the pieces or not.

There are lots of jewelry shops on Etsy when the owner buys popular components but changes them up a little (or a lot) in their jewelry. But their inventory tends to be smaller, as well as the volume of their sales. It bothers me how many supposedly handmade by seller assembled jewelry shops have identical pieces, both to other Etsy shops and to mass sellers such as found on Ebay. But that is what shoppers want.

The only problem with the shops listed in the original post is that while they all say please visit vivianfeilerdesigns.com, they don’t have her shops listed in her policies or profile (as of the time of this callout; maybe there was a mad scramble). So, technically all three shops are in violation of Etsy’s TOUs. PLUS… they link to an outside place where she sells the same items she has on Etsy. Another Etsy TOU violation.

Not only that, in the bio she claims to be a jewelry designer. Perhaps she is, as some of the items in the shops do look unique and handmade. However, I wonder if some of these more successful sellers start supplementing items in their shops to keep up with orders. They start sneaking in a reseller item here and there, and when they don’t get caught, they sneak in a few more. The profits have to be huge.

Filigree wrapping is not a new technique. The jewelry designer Susan Street has made it very popular with some very stunning pieces reminiscent of the Victorian era. You can buy some of the components premade and turn them into stunning designs. I do filigree wraps in some of my designs. It’s not a new technique. However, when you see a necklace that is the same repeatedly, through hundreds of sales, down to the clasp and tiny components, it starts to stand out that it just might be a resale item.

^^ …. and this is why you should reread what you write if you get interrupted 5-6 times. Sorry for the redundancy.

She’s looking for sympathy and sales.

    Classic reseller self-callout thread!

Why oh why doesn’t Etsy staff informally review every shop that opens with an address in China? And then contact shops like this one before the shop owners call unfortunate attention to themselves? Because at this point I don’t know who annoys me more: the cupcakettes pouring on the sympathy, or the snark brigade. Customers only can read this stuff, too.

    Very unfortunate, all around.

Artfire may not be able to keep out the resellers, but at least they allow the members to publicly smack them around. Check out this jewelry reseller getting his @ss kicked in the Artfire forums as he gets caught in numerous lies:

    checkout happycup

many items that aren’t related to one another, she must truly be a well rounded crafts person lol. She also has nothing filled out in her policies, location etc..And the name’s she’s giving for herself is “wang apple”…so I’m thinking chinese reseller?

  12. Life During Wartime December 30, 2010 at 5:18 pm #

lurking, great callout! Here is the peacock ‘happycup’:

    Search google images for

    porcelain enamel cup saucer spoon

and you will see they are resold on lots of sites, as well as being available wholesale from China.

    Reseller!

NonnyMus, yes Artfire allows callouts. But resellers are still on AF. I mean, the point is made by comparing the number of sales made by the resale jewelry studio vs. the studio owner who was the OP in that thread.

    ——————————-

The original item that was called out was taken down, because it got flagged at least 4 times. That only leaves like 700 more items still up in the offending shop so if AF admin will only make decisions one item at a time instead of looking at the whole shop, then yeah it’s pretty hopeless.

I’ve been out of the loop for a while, but thought I would mention I have been talking with a few people that are really sick of the reseller problem over at E, and some have taken up the hobby of writing e-mails to resellers asking them for more information, how they are made, if they can do custom pieces, and more.

Perhaps someone wants to ask Vivian what store are carrying her products because you would like to see the products in person.

If you catch my drift. Then if you get evidence that can be used against the seller to prove that they are without a doubt a reseller then make sure to pass that info along to a few people you trust and then one person can send the info into etsy.

this way several people know about it and know that it has been reported to Etsy and if nothing happend in a week or so another person can then forward the same info to etsy and so on and so on.

    good luck!

    you know while I was looking around etsy today I noticed those same pocket watches in two other shops… actually now as I search one ( the zodiac pocket watch) I’m noticing it’s in several shops including lifedream, lifelittle and littlekingdom. I think the first two are the same person very similar listings. She claims she works with factories and collectives to get her stuff made so she can sell them super cheap, like $9-$11. sorry if you talked about these guys already ^^;

If you do a search on Etsy of Owl watch locket, you will find 20-30 sellers with the same exact owl watch locket. These owl necklaces are not handmade and can be found here for resale:

The same necklace that VivianFeiler designs sells is on another site (unrelated to VivianFeiler) for half the price. I have purchased from the VivianFeiler site and tried to exchange an item that was was shipped incorrectly. Not only was I refused an exchange, but the email commication was bordering on rude and condescending.
