copycats: ceeologyy, nailedinny

28 Feb
I have a copyright/rip off “artist” to call out.
http://www.etsy.com/shop/ceeologyy (even the banner is a stolen image)

The whistle was blown here: http://www.etsy.com/teams/7722/business-topics/discuss/6799266/page/1

Some of the images have been easy to track down – but others I suspect are from other artists’ already sold items or from other websites.
Aside from the OP’s images there is this:

Hello there!!!
First off, Etsy Callout is a secret pleasure of mine as I can never believe how outrageous some Etsy sellers can be. Though I would prefer to remain anonymous, I would like to point out the fact that a dear friend of mine’s item is being blatently copied. I know there are hundreds of copy cats out there, and that copying is the highest form of flattery, but.. seriously??? Check this out:
Sparkly Pony’s Item (which was named one of Etsy’s top 5 Valentine’s Gifts for 2011 and will be featured in an Israeli design magazine) “Boyfriend in a Bottle”:
Copycat item:
This person’s attempt to copy is so lame, but what really bothered us is that they actually copied and pasted the exact measurements that the sparkly ponies took the time to write out (including the manner in which they were written out in fractions with spaces!). The funny part is that they are using very cheap plastic people from China that are actually smaller than the size they are claiming. Anyway, we just thought it was super lame and that you could come up with something clever to write about it if you needed some material.  We would really appreciate it, as I know the sparkly ponies would too since they aren’t sure what to do (other than laugh).
thanks so much for the great blog— you are really doing good work as I can tell by the  “Uh Oh Page does not exist” links! :)

imprintedpossessions stealing images

26 Feb

Hi!

I need some help – I’m in the midst of filling out all the mountains of paperwork for Etsy’s legal team to prove that this shop is stealing my images and using them to sell her necklaces.

imprintedpossessions stealing my images
www.etsy.com/listing/64697746/triple-layered-sterling-silver
www.etsy.com/listing/64895922/words-to-live-by-sterling-silver-hand
www.etsy.com/listing/65151088/sterling-silver-heart-pendant-necklace

My listings

www.etsy.com/listing/60626219/live-laugh-love-hand-stamped-sterling
www.etsy.com/listing/60880803/sterling-silver-heart-pendant-and

I have tons of solds from months and months before her shop even opened.  I also found another etsy seller that had her images stolen by Imprinted Possessions.  I have been in contact with her (http://www.etsy.com/shop/JLynnCreations) because we discovered that we both want her shop closed by etsy.  JLynnCreations just got Etsy to remove her photos (if you check Imprinted Possessions’ sold items, you will see that many of her solds are “no longer available”.  Those are the ones that JLynn successfully got Etsy to remove last week.  So, she’s stealing images from more than 1 shop, got caught and is still doing it.  The worst part for me is that one of my pieces is her best damn seller (and she’s selling it for me than me)!  Out of her 49 sales, I think 10 or 11 are my necklaces, images and all.  Just sickening.  I have contacted Etsy and got the standard “prove it” e-mail, so I am in the process of doing all of that right now.  I also asked twice if her shop would be shut down for being a repeat offender, but of course got no reply.  JLynnCreations and I both want to make sure she doesn’t do this to anyone else and didn’t know if you could help us.  If you need JLynnCreation’s contact info, I can get that for you or you can convo her at her shop too.  We both didn’t file with paypal (for fradulent selling and to possibly recoup money that was collected selling our items) out of fear of repercussions/retaliation from her even though she has sold over $350 using my images and over $150 using JLynnCreation’s images.

Not sure if you can do anything to help us, but figured we’d try! :)

Thanks so much,
Trisha Duman

YOU SAVE $44  Go Hand Assembled!

Fairysomnia “Elena Romanova”
http://www.etsy.com/people/fairysomnia?ref=pr_profile#

has the same (almost) bio as this seller: GreenOptimist http://www.etsy.com/people/GreenOptimist?ref=pr_profile# Except that seller is listed as a “Juri Romanov” so it could be her husband, right? Except… why the strange spelling of the last name and why are there purchases from the second account to the first? Also most of the purchases from both accounts (GO and Fairysomnia) are from the same buyer…check feedback…literally almost all are from a “chechi72″

The fairysomnia has a blog listed on her profile which lists shows she has been in:
http://elenaromanova.blogspot.com/

SELECTED GROUP EXHIBITIONS

2009 “Contemporary Watercolors,” The Harrison Gallery, Williamstown, MA
2007 “Solstice,” David Floria Gallery, Aspen, CO
2006 “Sliding Scales,” Winston Wächter Fine Art, New York, NY
“Black + White,” Nathan A. Bernstein & Co., Ltd., New York, NY

The problems are: the 2009 show http://www.floriagallery.com/ does not include her, and neither do any of the any other galleries she claims.
http://www.theharrisongallery.com/events_0_archives.htm
http://www.artnet.com/artists/caio-fonseca/biography-links (as you can see the last two were private shows and not even group exhibitions as she listed)

I was seconds away from buying something from this person before I checked the feedback, and am glad I did! I don’t know what is going on…but something definitely is. I certainly thought it was odd to see “full-time professional artist living in Europe, between – Russia,United Kingdom and Bulgaria.” and now the Juri version is adding in NY and Montreal. Lucky lucky them…right? Shady shady them is more like it.

That shop “FineFrenchCountry” is apparently reselling many items by a company called “America Retold.” Hee. Maybe they can sell me some Freedom fries too.

This Etsy seller was featured in the finds today with a “homemade” product clearly bought from nutsonline.com. They also use photography straight from nutsonline.com. They are featured in 100+ treasuries right now with stolen pictures. The rest of their shop is probably from other sites too. I’m sure your readers can shed some light on those. Nice work, Etsy.

WaistKnotBeltCo, SweetPrimitive

14 Feb

Seller WaistKnotBeltCo is selling newly-made “brothel tokens” as Vintage, in both tags and the descriptions. These are turned into keyrings and necklaces which is fine, but it’s not okay to call it vintage when these are just purchased wholesale, and never really existed in the Old West anyway. Here they are wholesale from one site, called “fantasy tokens”:

they are selling a platinum ring for $8.90.
