WaistKnotBeltCo, SweetPrimitive

14 Feb

Seller WaistKnotBeltCo is selling newly-made “brothel tokens” as Vintage, in both tags and the descriptions. These are turned into keyrings and necklaces which is fine, but it’s not okay to call it vintage when these are just purchased wholesale, and never really existed in the Old West anyway. Here they are wholesale from one site, called “fantasy tokens”:

This person now has 22 negatives and 10 neutrals. And to make it worse, she has another shop!

Here is her feedback page,

And here is her other shop, no activity since 2/09!

If you REALLY want to see some crazy negatives check out 123 negatives & 107 neutrals

I was put off PGS a while back because of their awful feedback. While I don’t automatically distrust any seller based on negative feedback, when all the negative experiences are more or less the same for every buyer, it’s pretty easy to see where the problem lies.

Also, those damn trendy deer as props. Not tempting me at all.

Ugh, the brothel token one bothers me a lot. I think they would qualify as handmade, if she is attaching the keyrings and such to them, but they are not vintage. From my brief brothel research, it seems like tokens were never really used, they just started showing up in flea markets and are considered fakes.

Sucks about PGS, they either need to hire someone to help or just get more efficient in shipping. Even the positive feedbacks mention the shipping times. Looks like they are planning on moving to their own site where people can’t see their feedback anymore. I would love to order from them if they could get their shipping under control.

The “brothel token” seller REALLY bothers me. The feedback was hard to read without wondering how the seller could sleep at night. One buyer in particular has purchased over 5 pieces, and was writing about all the people that probably had dealt with the tokens when they were in use. Thinking back on the history…thinking about holding a part of that history. The only person holding that token was the person that pushed the stamping machine and the person that tossed in in the sack to ship it. It was sickening to think the seller is willing to mark those up from the $2.00 they retail for and bilk someone of not only the extra cash- but to make a fool of them as well. I SO want to mail the woman who KEEPS buying from this seller to stop her!!! I just want to send her the link to…say…relicaweaponry.com.

Portland General Store is also selling shaving brushes which are a supply if you consider shaving to be an art, I guess.

I knew that name soundeded familiar. I wrote about PGS almost a year ago. Only 51 neutral and 27 negs then.

Just another wonderful Etsy seller I attempted to ruin the reputation of as my troll claims.

This seller has a reseller shop selling the similar items to the one Sara called out: http://www.etsy.com/shop/baiyun033
They have the same watermark, and the shop was opened on the same day.

Not sure what the deal is with these – the Novica ones are supposed to be handmade, too, and are MUCH more expensive:

IT really winds me up when shops are blessed with many many sales and really screw up their customer service. There are many great shops on Etsy that are desperate for their first sale and ready and waiting to post as soon as their orders come in with great customer care and yet there are bad sellers with orders just queueing up.

Hindsvik is featured in a storque article
I hate etsy so much right now.

  11. mrpouncy February 16, 2011 at 9:57 am #

Hindsvik was the featured seller last March, less than a year ago.

And this week’s Quit-Your-Day-Job person, SevenPly, was the featured seller last August, a mere 7 or so months ago.

Must be nice to get that kind of repeated exposure for your shop.

did anyone check out the current featured seller selling lightbulbs in there shop… I’m sure the buyer can just go to Home Depo and pick them up themselves….

  13. sick of cupcakes February 16, 2011 at 12:48 pm #

Really? Idiots will pay a hundred bucks for a light bulb screwed into a hunk of wood?

  14. Life During Wartime February 16, 2011 at 3:37 pm #

If you can sell light bulbs that I can find at my local strip mall as a supply on Etsy, what CAN’T be sold as a supply?

  15. em February 16, 2011 at 3:43 pm #

on the front page right now, curated by the one and only raceytay:

I have collected brothel tokens for years. They are a relatively recent tourist type souvenir. We used to live in Colorado, not too far from Cripple Creek, and I have close to 100 of them simply because they were funny. We had skis and snowshoes on the walls, spare ski jackets for yahoos who forgot to bring theirs even though they were told to do so, and a display of brothel tokens and an article explaining them just for hoots and giggles.

In reality, brothel tokens were never used in saloons or brothels with the exception of maybe 1-2 establishments. Those that did make these were few and are rare as hen’s teeth.

A clue as to their authenticity, and this will be a forehead smack for most, is that back in the old west they never said things like “screw.” That’s a relatively new slang term for a sexual encounter.

Exonumia has an excellent, brief article located here: http://www.exonumia.com/fakes/hor.htm

Many men probably took away a lot more souveniers from whore houses than tokens I am sure. It’s probably hard to get a crab to hold still so you can stick it on a keychain tho.

I bet sweetprimitive was shut down by etsy, and thats why they have no listings now.

If anyone wants to buy a sign on etsy, this is a great shop, http://www.etsy.com/shop/ChristineSherriffs

still very new, and hasn’t had much business, but she is a very nice person and would be a pleasure to work with. Plus one good thing about shops with few sales, they usually go above and beyond for all their customers.

  20. Amy Endee February 24, 2011 at 12:33 pm #

What’s amazing is the last shop STILL has an above 90% for feedback rating. He must buy a lot or something, feedback is such a bunch of…

  21. PussDaddy March 14, 2011 at 12:11 pm #

portlandgeneralstore has even more bad feedback now.

  22. Christa March 15, 2011 at 10:21 pm #

Ugh Just search “brothel tokens” and there’s tons more sellers selling them for like $40-$50 a piece!
Look at the nerve of this idjit. lol
