I really hope that you help highlight this current debacle from this popular Etsy seller.

I have bought two wigs from her myself, so after browsing some more wigs in her shop i came across these links through a negative rating in her feedback:

There are tons of links that show she has been buying wigs from Ebay and selling them as her own on Etsy. One of the wigs i purchased from her was this one:

Ebay wig (Identical to the one i have in my hand right now, ordered from Miss VioletLace, down to the lace inside the wig cap)

The wig i ordered from MVL (Styled and tweaked):

The wig was not altered in ANY way. So i payed roughly $40 more, all in with shipping.

She has put a note in her announcement as follows:
—-ABOUT OUR WIGS – PLEASE READ- To clarify the recent accusations against us, we wanted to set the record straight. We reconstruct and redesign wigs, and hand-alter them, which follows Etsy’s policies on handmade items. As is stated from Etsy’s policies: “On Etsy, the term “handmade” can additionally be interpreted as “hand-assembled” or “hand-altered.””

All of our wigs in our shop have been changed/redesigned or altered in some way. Our wig clips are a supply, which is also acceptable under Etsy’s Supplies policy, as is stated: “The Supplies Category is for both handmade and non-handmade (“commercial”) crafting supplies. A crafting supply is an item that is primarily used to make handmade items you might find for sale on Etsy.” Our clips can be used for making your own clip in hair extensions, we also do the labor by sewing them into a wig”

There is more but i can’t stomach it.

Also when i originally bought the wig, she clearly stated in her profile that she made all the wigs by hand, i can’t find this anywhere now. Surprise Surprise.
To say i am livid is an understatement.

As far as I can see from the photos, the seller cut the wig shorter. Don’t know if that’s worth 40 dollars more, but she did alter that particular wig, and is etsy legal for that listing.

  3. FormerEtsyBuyer March 12, 2011 at 9:44 am #

That is just outrageous! I guess we all could buy wigs, part them on the other side, call them “hand altered” and sell them on etsy too! LOL
As far as MVL calling her wigs “handmade”, I found this blog which says they’re handmade:

Also, here is their etsy profile as of Feb. 11th which never mentions hand-altering and implies that the wigs are handmade:

you took the word right out of my mouth, um no.

I always admired this shop and if I didn’t have way too much hair already totally would have bought one of her wigs.

I remember reading a forum post about how truly handmade wigs would be super expensive, though, so I was already a little skeptical of this shop.

How unfortunate for her previous buyers, I would be super pissed.

  5. pissed March 12, 2011 at 10:01 am #

Well, I am a previous buyer, and I am super pissed at the prices I paid there, at missdemented, and at tiffanydemichele ….

  6. um no March 12, 2011 at 10:06 am #

I’ve admired MVL’s shop too. I can’t believe this!!! But you know, all you have to do is alter it just a little to be Etsy legal. Is she not doing that? It doesn’t appear that she is!!

  7. JAC March 12, 2011 at 11:52 am #

Etsy wont do anything about it because she states that she hand alters the items. And yes that is okay with Etsy. But if you bought wigs from her I would email Etsy if you have not already.
Sorry, and now we have another shitty seller to add to our lists.

  8. PussDaddy March 12, 2011 at 1:27 pm #

I once made a treasury that had some of these wigs in them, then I said to myself “honestly, do individual people really make wigs?” and since I thought no they couldn’t I never made another treasury with them in it.

  9. Toaster March 12, 2011 at 1:40 pm #

And here’s her cached policy page where it clearly says “handmade” in the second line under the ‘welcome’ heading:

  10. Jael March 12, 2011 at 1:41 pm #

If an individual made wigs, it would cost a whole lot more than most people would be willing to pay, and these wigs don’t reflect the labor involved in doing so. This should be the first clue.

  11. PussDaddy March 12, 2011 at 1:46 pm #

I am tempted to say tho that anyone who would actually wear one of these deserves what they get. But I won’t because I’m a buyer too and who am I to judge if you want to walk around looking ready for trick or treating every day of the year.

  12. em March 12, 2011 at 2:41 pm #

PD – I like a lot of the wigs – I think the shops are meant to appeal more to the younger set. I also think that a lot of them are meant for costumes… otherwise, I see your point, lol.

  13. sickofetsy March 12, 2011 at 2:53 pm #

I have always hated my hair, and can definitely understand why someone would wear one of these. They are adorable (obviously not hand made, altered whatever). I’m guessing girls probably like to wear them to clubs.

  14. PussDaddy March 12, 2011 at 4:03 pm #

And people probably would like to take clubs to girls who wear them.

  15. yomama March 12, 2011 at 5:09 pm #

MissD still claims to make her wigs on her youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENZP-UQKHQU
    and on ecrater
    Made to order my ass

  16. PussDaddy March 12, 2011 at 7:41 pm #

She had to look at the shit to remember what color it was.

  17. em March 12, 2011 at 8:49 pm #

Well, at least I know where to get the wigs for real cheap now, lol!

If these sellers really are ‘altering’ the wigs by cutting, then it should be made clear. It’s obvious they were bullshitting everyone by saying it was completely handmade to order. And that’s just unacceptable. I can’t believe the measures people will go to just to make a buck – and also the fact that people will pay so much for crap just because it’s on Etsy.

  18. PussDaddy March 12, 2011 at 9:29 pm #

I’m so sick of it that I rarely even buy anything anymore. Why should I when I can probably go get it way cheaper in some store. It’s a shame because it’s bullshit like this that hurts the sales of people really hand sew, hand crochet, hand embroider, hand paint, whatever. I have decided to stop buying crap and I count myself lucky that with all the buys I made I ended up with just a small amount of crap.

As i have said, the wig i recieved from MVL is EXACTLY the same as the ebay pictured one, colour, length, style:

Not the one she had listed:

Please bear in mind she has styled the wig for pictures. She may even have altered the pictured one, i think though she has just clipped it back and tucked it behind her ears. The light is completly different in her pics too.

The wig i recieved is the same as the ebay wig. Identical and NOT ALTERED IN ANY way.

When i purchased the wig, her profile stated that she HANDMADE the wigs, i did some research and read some blogs that backed up this claim.

She has lied to customers for the whole time she has been selling on Etsy. Many of her wigs are not altered in any way, mine certainly was not.

Sorry for the caps i am still a bit livid;)

  20. TiredOfBlameTheVictimMentality March 13, 2011 at 5:15 am #

You know, I don’t think it’s right that any person judge anyone who fell victim to this scam. These individuals have over 2000 positive feedbacks between them on Ebay and Etsy, they have dozens of videos on Youtube from friends and buyers giving positive reviews touting their awesome handmade wigs. Just because you may think a wig is a silly or juvenile item to purchase does not make any of this scamming okay. Jeez, be part of the solution people!

  21. Derp March 13, 2011 at 5:30 am #

Hey, could we leave the bashing to people reselling and sipping off, and leave judgments about those with different style choices OUT of this?
That said, this is why I always do an ebay search before buying anything like this. A quick look would have shown that the buyer was getting ripped off, at least.

  22. Derp March 13, 2011 at 5:30 am #

uh… sipping = ripping. My fingers, they fumble.

  23. stephanie March 13, 2011 at 8:34 am #

I agree with the others, leave the victims out of this. My daughter goes to fanime every year and has about 8 colored wigs to match different costumes. I have purchased all her wigs off eBay. A couple weeks ago I stumbled onto MissD Etsy shop. At first I was impressed that she handmade her wigs, but as I looked closer, I started to recognize several of the wigs as ones I’d purchased from eBay. I convo’d her but never heard back.

  24. sickofetsy March 13, 2011 at 10:23 am #

There is only one person bashing the victims here, the rest of us believe in free choice.

  25. bettydoo March 13, 2011 at 10:40 am #

hey! have any of ya’ll noticed that there etsy shops no longer have wigs????? Do you think there gonna stop selling on etsy? Hope the ppl that bought wigs receive them and MVL or MD dont bail on them.

  26. stephanie March 13, 2011 at 10:58 am #

Wow Bettydoo. I checked this morning and MissD still had wigs for sale, plus she had sold a few. Wonder if Etsy pulled them? Interesting that BOTH shops are empty.

  27. megansbeadeddesigns March 13, 2011 at 11:13 am #

I had several of these wigs hearted. Thank God I never bought any!

  28. PussDaddy March 13, 2011 at 3:06 pm #

    OMG get a grip.

This is my blog post about this mess

And this is what a very brave anonymous poster commented

    Anonymous said…
What a super cunt you are! Someone a little butthurt about a comment calling you out for blaming the victims on this scam? I am sure you won’t have to balls to approve this message, but it’s people like you that sicken me to my core. You act all high and mighty, superior and smarter than others, but you seem to be missing the FUCKING POINT — WHAT THEY DID WAS ILLEGAL AND IMMORAL.

and this is my response to it

    PussDaddy said…
WTF are you talking about? I didn’t blame any victims. My comments about the fire hydrant being smarter was meant as who would pay good money to wear stuff like this anyway. I have no idea what you are talking about a comment calling me out or whatever. It is my opinion that anyone who would spend good money for a wig like this can’t be too smart. That’s it. Therefore the fire hydrant is smarter because he took the cheaper route and his hair looks like a rat’s next too. The wig in one of the videos when they showed the back of it it looked like a rat’s nest. Why anyone would want to wear something like that I have no clue. If I thought it was the buyer’s fault they got ripped off I wouldn’t have made the blog post in the first place. Didn’t I say buyer’s getting ripped off pisses me the hell off?
Now, next time have the balls to use your real name posting here, OK? Thanks.

So yes I do think it silly that anyone would believe these 2 very young people hand make all these wigs because I sure as hell felt silly for believing it after I made my treasury and then had my epiphany that no way in hell did they make them. And no I can’t see spending good money to wear one of those things especially after I saw the back of one in a video. Sorry, that’s my opinion. Maybe you have one too, maybe you would laugh at my Mom jeans and wonder why I would waste money on those, or maybe you think I’m a cunt. Whatever. You are entitled to your opinion.

  29. PussDaddy March 13, 2011 at 3:14 pm #

And no where did I say any of you were fucking demented. Did I say look at these demented people who fell for this shit? Did I say boy these people sure are stupid asses for buying this crap? Maybe my fucking title was meant as a warning to future buyers OK?-You’d Have To Be Demented To Believe That MissDemented And ViolateLace Can Turn Out This Many Handmade Wigs-so don’t buy the shit. But if you want to feel that was directed at you as a buyer then there is nothing I can do about it. I guess that’s the thanks you get for trying to keep someone from getting ripped off like you did. Whatever.

  30. PussDaddy March 13, 2011 at 3:22 pm #

Are you a fan of free choice? Really? Free choice to have your own opinions about stuff or free for everyone to have an opinon about stuff? Because my free choice is that you would be better off going to an after Halloween sale and buying wigs that way. Because I believe in your free choice to wear this kind of stuff if you want to, just don’t blame me if I have a giggle fit when I see you ok because that is my free choice too. Hell, I even believe in your free choice to call me a cunt, even if you do it anonymously. Lucky for me you are a fanime mom and not a soccer mom because I’d probably have your kid’s soccer ball shoved up my ass right now. Sheeeeesh!

  31. MoreLikeTrollDaddy March 13, 2011 at 3:31 pm #

Why are you posting here again? Let’s get back to the topic on hand. Bravo to the person who called you out.

  32. PussDaddy March 13, 2011 at 4:25 pm #

Yes, bravo to the brave anonymous person who called me out. (golf claps). I post where I like. So much for freedom of choice, huh?

  33. HypocriteDaddyFTL March 13, 2011 at 4:40 pm #

Looks like the brave anonymous person posted where they liked as well, so cry about it some more you attention seeking troll and keep your insulting opinions to yourself if you don’t want to hear others opinions of you in return.

Thank you again to everyone who brought attention to these scammers and helped shut down their Etsy stores!

  34. PussDaddy March 13, 2011 at 6:15 pm #

If I gave a flying fuck about the comment I wouldn’t have passed it trough. And you’re welcome, if in fact they are shut down, which I am not quite sure at the moment that they won’t be back, but one can only hope.

  35. PussDaddy March 13, 2011 at 6:46 pm #

Good Lord, check out this neg feedback on page 13 of MissVioletLace’s feedback. This is gross.

    girljinxed18 says:
Seller sent wrong wig, took weeks to finally get it a refund correctly and despite me telling her that I had a scalp condition where I didn’t want to send the wig back for anyone else to use, she insisted that she take the wig back and “use it for pieces”. BEWARE buyers that she DOES take back wigs and might be using used wig pieces in your wig. Will never buy from her again unfortunately

  36. PussDaddy March 13, 2011 at 7:26 pm #

And on page 12 of MissVioletLace’s feedback another neg

    FrenchNemesis says:
I had high hopes but im really dissapointed. you told me yours were going to be better. but the wig looks nothing like the picture its thin and frizzy and im embarrased to wear it in my bathroom which means i wont be going to class in it and will be making a new purchase with someone else better. it smelt like plastic and umm an animal. Im highly allergic to cats so I hope its not a cat. The second i put it on I wanted to cry I look so bad in it.

Just what I always wanted-a wig that smells like a cat rolled around in it. If you don’t get fleas maybe you will get lice or a scalp disease from reused wig pieces.

  37. JustStopAlready March 13, 2011 at 7:49 pm #

Deputy Dingdong: FrenchNemesis is actually a friend of Miss Demented, she left four of the five negative reviews for MVL and has made dozens of YouTube videos for Miss Demented and against MVL. Both MVL and Miss Demented have been reversing transactions to get rid of negative feedback. But hey, you aren’t one to make assumptions about situations you aren’t involved in, eh?

  38. Trista March 13, 2011 at 8:25 pm #

Does anybody think MVL & MD were actually making their own wig sprays that they were selling? You know, anyone could buy a big bottle of a super cheap spray (or heck, just buy some body mist!), pour it into a little bottle & slap a homemade sticker on it.

  39. PussDaddy March 13, 2011 at 8:40 pm #

I will assume that I am the Deputy that you are addressing and respond with they both deserve whatever they are getting.

  40. PussDaddy March 13, 2011 at 8:44 pm #

To be honest Trista who the hell knows what is in the bottles for sure?

  41. yomama March 13, 2011 at 9:13 pm #

yeah i saw one of FrenchNemisis’s video reviews of MissD wigs. She added a note on it that she was reselling it for $200. For a used wig!?

  42. kitten March 13, 2011 at 10:03 pm #

Can the juveniles who apparently bought a high priced cheap wig stop with the insults. PD is a long time poster here… haven’t seen you before.

After seeing MissDemented’s videos (the name absolutely fits her), um, yeah, sending her a large sum of money would be the last thing on my mind.

I don’t fault anyone buying a wig, buying one from MissDemented, um, yeah, that’s just gross.

MVL does seem to be a wee bit more professional.

  43. PussDaddy March 13, 2011 at 10:58 pm #

It’s ok, lol. My first comments were meant as a joke, hence the smiley face. I don’t think it was really cuntworthy IMHO, but I can see where someone might not like being poked fun at. To be fair I clicked on some of the pics that people who bought these things left for the sellers in feedback and a lot of them are pretty, some in fact look a lot better than the sellers who sold this stuff. That still doesn’t mean I might not giggle if I see someone sportin’ it out somewhere. But I will try to contain myself.

  44. yomama March 13, 2011 at 11:13 pm #

sadly they are both still selling on Ebay, which is ironic. I’m buying a $200 inflated price wig and on the same site I can get it for $30.

  45. Honey badger March 14, 2011 at 1:23 am #

How about sticking to the subject at hand?

Pussdaddy is it possible for you to keep all that nonsense of your blog and not bring it here? Really same goes for those responding to her, it is so not worth it.

This is about folks getting ripped off. Simple.

Both shops are currently empty, so i assume Etsy are investigating, or coaching them on how to sell within the TOU’s.

  46. Nicole March 14, 2011 at 2:51 am #

I don’t ‘blame’ buyers in this situation, but it does seem pretty obvious to me that these wigs have a very minor amount of alteration done to them. Particularly since there are multiple sellers selling very similar wigs. There is another seller with the same wigs, I wonder why Etsy hasn’t pulled her store-

  47. DontCareIfPDIsThePope March 14, 2011 at 3:16 am #

You can tell they are a long time poster here, kitten. Someone thinks they are a little too important and that they can act like an elitist judgmental know-it-all . Perhaps respect would have been given to said poster had they demonstrated it first. And also, don’t you think for a second the hundreds of folks who have been scammed by these girls for hundreds of dollars, and in some cases thousands, are going to appreciate some entitled jackass on the internet offering their offensive opinions.

Stay pressed though, PD. Thanks for all the replies and helping bring attention to these scammers!

  48. Yaya March 14, 2011 at 3:58 am #

Someone doesn’t have etsy as their playground anymore and needs stroking. Her pot stirring is old and tired.

I felt pretty silly that i had been taken in. Yet i thought i had done enough research, i have a decent amount of common sense, have been buying and selling on Etsy for a while, can spot most resellers and still totally fell for it.

It was my first wig purchase and i thought MVL shop looked fabulous, at that point she had far less sales and had all the handmade claims lighting up her shop. I was convinced.

What might be obvious to some is not always obvious to others, again this is not the point of the call out.

  50. Honey Badger March 14, 2011 at 5:33 am #

  55. Kaelah Bee March 14, 2011 at 5:57 pm #

I removed my MVL reviews from YouTube as they had several thousand views and I didn’t want to further mislead anyone (as I was mislead by her myself), but here is the link to our original interview in November where she blatantly claims that all of her items are handmade. I contacted her in December, I believe, with worries that her wigs were just bought and resold as I found other sellers selling IDENTICAL products. She assured me that her competition was such a copycat and not to worry, she made them all in house I can obviously provide screencaps of said conversation. I have supported MVL all this time and even though I spent hours trying to decipher for myself everything a few months ago, I still tend to trust people and figured that it was all well and good. She’s currently the XL sponsor on my blog and had an interview scheduled to go up this week. I’ve since talked to her and pulled the interview. She said that she is having to prove to Etsy that she does indeed alter the wigs, and while just snipping an inch here or there technically makes it TOS-approved, I find it disheartening that she would mislead her customers all this time and only make a claim that they’re outsourced after the fact. We had email exchanges yesterday and she claimed that her wigs were handmade at the time of our November interview, but I saw in her Etsy that she sold a Candy Kiss wig in October, prior to the interview, and it’s identical twin can be found on ebay for a mere fraction of the price. Thus concluding that she did indeed lie, again. She danced around that question and never provided a yay or nay answer as to whether I was correct in my findings. I’ll be watching how everything plays out, of course, but I’m deeply regretful that she has received so much publicity from my blog. I don’t think “victim blaming” is the correct thing to do here. Plenty of people buy wigs both for novelty and just for casual use. The customers of MVL and MissDemented are not to be blamed as they did nothing immoral or illegal. MissDemented also has ghost buyers. Her friends “purchase” several of her wigs to up her sales and then leave negative feedback on her competition’s shops. Not saying that this clears MVL of any wrong doing because she certainly has put herself in a pickle, but I watched the transformation of MissDemented’s shop and she started copying absolutely everything MVL did. Down to the logo, wording, and products. One of my readers contacted me saying that MVL offered her an almost 50% refund for a purchase of 3 wigs made in January. I urge anyone who has purchased wigs from her to do the same!

The link to the initial interview where she claims they’re all handmade can be found here: http://honeybeeinthecity.blogspot.com/2010/11/sunday-spotlight-etsian-miss-violet.html

I left it up simply for the sake of others to find/read and make their own judgements.

  56. sickofthepussy March 14, 2011 at 6:37 pm #

I’m sorry kitten, but I don’t rant and that was my first post. PD has a blog to do all her ranting. What she did was bring her rants from her blog over here.

Kaelah Bee – I applaud you for removing the youtube videos and giving us all some insight into this whole mess. Thank you.

  57. Nova March 14, 2011 at 6:41 pm #

Keep on enabling that mean girl high school attitude, kitten. Looks like your pal brought this all to this blog from her own, but keep on excusing her behavior and blaming those who have been affected and are rightfully angry! Classy!

Again, thanks to all for the help closing down these shops!

  58. Honey badger March 15, 2011 at 2:52 am #

Thank you for commenting here Kaelah, that information is really useful. A lot of us were taken in by her:(

I may well contact MVL to request a refund, you never know.

  59. Chocalita March 15, 2011 at 2:41 pm #

Under etsy’s policies the wigs that MD and MVL merely trimmed are definitely not considered handmade:
    Quoted from Etsy policies:
“Simply tailoring, restoring or repairing an item is not considered handmade.”
A small haircut is classed as ‘simply tailoring’ and so shouldn’t be considered handmade. It’s the equivalent of something like adding a strap to a commercially bought clutch and selling it as a handbag or buying a heap of blouses and removing the shoulder pads, you get the idea and I’m not so good with analogies. Basically those wigs have not been significantly altered enough.

Good luck everyone with getting refunds back! I understand people are having trouble getting refunds back, especially from MD, but perhaps if everyone opens paypal and etsy disputes it’ll be brought to paypal and etsy’s attention quicker. Especially for those that bought the plain wigs (the ones that aren’t multiple wigs spliced together), just quote the etsy policy above and provide links to the ebay version of the wigs.

  60. Birdy March 15, 2011 at 3:15 pm #

Just found out about this scam earlier today via Miss D’s facebook page (someone posted the links on the discussion tab). I had been wondering why she and MVL’s shops were empty. I purchased from both of them—and I really thought they were legit. I’m a trusting person and I don’t know how to make wigs, so how would I even be able to tell. I have only seen single colored halloweeny wigs and they certainly didn’t look like those to me. After looking on ebay I found both wigs I purchased (but MVL’s just added a couple extensions to hers to make it different)—Miss D’s EXACTLY one I found for more than half off on ebay.

Needless to say I am hurt, pissed, and feel stupid that I fell for it. BUT now I can afford to buy a couple wigs that I was saving up for from Miss D’s shop 🙂 AND I’ll still have money left over. I didn’t really want to support mass produced crap, but it looks like I did anyway.

I unfortunately purchased a wig from Miss D just before I found out about all this. When i noticed her shop gone on Etsy i emailed her and she told me that she has temporarily shut her shop to catch up on orders, well i know now that is a lie, now i don’t know what to do.

  62. Kaelah Bee March 16, 2011 at 8:23 am #

@Ashley: if she had “shut down to catch up on orders” then she would have put her shop on Vacation Mode… not lose all of the listings, 20 cents per listing posted, and then 20 cents per listing she will have to re-write. Blatant lie and you should confront her. You need to file a dispute with both PayPal and Etsy. Don’t let her give you the run-around!

  63. Kaelah Bee March 16, 2011 at 8:28 am #

Here is a screenshot someone left in my Formspring today. Apparently just proving that MD claims that hers have always been handmade. It was a conversation in December

  64. Ashley March 16, 2011 at 11:32 am #

Kaelah Bee, I sent her a message this morning after reading all this if she doesn’t get back to me then i will file with Etsy and Paypal

  65. Nikki Kelly (dxgirly) March 16, 2011 at 12:42 pm #

I was MAJORLY duped by this scam. But not by MVL, but Miss Demented. I bought over 20 wigs from that girl, and I made a video for almost every single one of them promoting her. I was friends with her and another girl, Krystal (the one who left MVL her negative feedback) and needless to say everything has been removed from youtube and the both of them have been deleted and blocked. It’s friggen ridiculous. I was SO blind. I feel like an absolute moron. They were taking advantage of people, a lot of whom were insecure in their own natural hair. It makes me so sad, not only for my lost money, but for the level of betrayal I feel. I know it’s naive, but I genuinely thought she was my friend. :\

  66. Ashley March 16, 2011 at 3:47 pm #

Well i got a response from Miss Demented and this was it
“Im sorry, this wig is handmade, you cannot cancel your order.”
Anyone have any suggestions on what i should do? I can’t file a claim with paypal for item not received, I only placed the order 5-6 days ago, and she does clearly state in her listing that it could take 4-6 wks or whatever, same goes for etsy. And i’ve not seen the wig i ordered in any of the photos’s of the ones you can find on ebay so i think it may be 1 of the one’s she sews some streaks in, which is not handmade, but is still technically hand altered.

  67. Ashley March 16, 2011 at 3:48 pm #

oh and i think she’s closed her facebook page down now

Wait, you would want to be friends with MD and this piece of trash Krystal after you knew they purposely left that disgusting feedback for MVL??

MVL is in the wrong, but that feedback was downright cruel. Why would you support a unethical seller and her stupid flunkie after you knew they were capable of doing something so horrendous?

I’m sorry you are out the money, but maybe this is a little karma and a lesson to choose your friends not only by the way they treat you, but others.

Is it too late to do a PayPal claim? How about doing a charge-back on your credit card? Demand the money back from MD or you will put a complaint with the Attorney General from her state?? That usually seems to make people move a bit quicker.

  69. Nikki Kelly (dxgirly) March 16, 2011 at 6:09 pm #

No I was friends with them before that all went down. I started buying in October, and that whole shit show didn’t happen til later. I didn’t support them doing it, or contribute in any way, but I didn’t out right de-friend them for it either. I regret that.

Dannie (Miss Demented had me convinced that MVL was copying everything she did, and that Krista was an original buyer of MD wigs, and that she told Krista how to make them and then she stabbed her in the back by starting to sell them. I even commented to her that one person would continuously dislike my videos and Dannie told me it was her doing.

I was so wrapped into their little storyline that it was sick, and sad really. I wish I had just never bought one at all.

  70. Nikki Kelly (dxgirly) March 16, 2011 at 7:22 pm #

Also, I think everyone should try to report this shop, http://www.etsy.com/shop/TiffanyDeMichele?ref=top_trail

I believe it’s Miss Demented selling under a false name. They’re both from the same area in California, and it really just stinks of her.

  71. Ashley March 16, 2011 at 7:26 pm #

Nikki, i don’t think they are the same, but she does pretty much the same thing as MVL and Miss D, her wigs seem to be styled a little more natural and not so “sceney”

  72. Kaelah Bee. March 16, 2011 at 7:35 pm #

Tiffany DeMochele is a different girl entirely, and also a sponsor on my blog. She emailed me about MVL & MD 2 days ago but has since ignored 2 emails I’ve sent her asking for explanation.

I’m to the point where I’m going to strip both sponsorships entirely. Even if they get ticked. My loyalty is with my readers first and foremost.

  73. Nikki Kelly (dxgirly) March 16, 2011 at 7:47 pm #

Ah okay I see. Well I think all of them should be removed honestly, because I don’t think any of them are actually handmaking their wigs

I understand. I would follow through on trying to get your money back. At least put in a complaint with the Attorney General of, is it California? Hopefully that will light a fire under MD’s lazy ass to do the right thing and refund your money. Good luck.

  76. Sparkle March 17, 2011 at 9:37 am #

I’m gonna go with yes, she is also doing it unless she is on ebay. I found the same wigs she has on ebay for much cheaper though…

It makes me wonder about this seller too…

  77. Ashley March 17, 2011 at 10:35 am #

Sparkle u wondered about her too, i seen her wigs on etsy and the are gorgeous but VERY expensive

  78. bettydoo March 17, 2011 at 5:09 pm #

Ashley n Sparkle, I think butterflywings also purchases her wigs from ebay, she gives it away by saying “They are elasticated inside to fit every shape and size and even have adjustable straps” oh and that its “highest quality Kanekalon fiber from Japan” almost the exact quote MD, MVl would say, MD also deleted her facebook and ebay shop is empty.

  79. bettydoo March 17, 2011 at 5:11 pm #

oops im sorry i ment butterfly wigs 🙂

Is there any wrong by what MD, MVL and other sellers are doing? I don’t know the regulations/rules sellers got to go through by etsy.. all this talk about MD and MVL, now we’re all finding other sellers that are doing the exact same thing when it comes to wigs. It got me curious about other items I have bought that aren’t wigs. I buy a lot of acrylic jewelry and clothes from etsy. I have found a few items that are on wholesale sites for cheaper on google. Isn’t it just apart of what sellers do? Not so much their in the wrong but maybe we should all do our homework before buying. Isn’t that apart of selling products? Buying it from a whole sale/else where/cheaper than modifying it/hand altering it or just straight up selling it for more what they bought it for so they can make profit? It seems that way the more I go searching for items I have bought from etsy, I’m finding them elsewhere but cheaper. It upsets me a little bit, I’m somewhat over it now. My Husband is the one that had to pa extra for wigs from MD.. I just can’t believe what people do in this world but I guess it’s just apart of how they make their money in their so called little business out of their home. 😦

  81. Kaelah Bee March 18, 2011 at 6:49 am #

@ Sparkle: no, you’re absolutely right. it’s the same thing as retail. you buy items wholesale, mark them up and sell them in your own store. THE DIFFERENCE however, is that these girls claim that their product is handmade. Their morals go out the window when they blatantly lie to their customers and supporters. I would continue to buy wigs had they just marketed them as items bought wholesale. That’s how the retail industry works. They however wanted to use “handmade” to their advantage so that they would be able to sell on Etsy. Now they’re being found out and the blacklash is something awful. If they had just marketed them the way they truly are from the beginning then everything would be fine. They could have still shown them on a real person and it would’ve been more appealing to buy them because you see them on a real person. Not a plastic mannequin head. They dug their own grave on this one.

  82. Kaelah Bee March 18, 2011 at 6:51 am #

Apparently all of Tiffany DeMichele’s wigs can be found in the EpicCosplay store on Ebay.

I sent her a termination email since she’s a sponsor on my blog. MVL and TD will be removed within the day. Here is a screenshot of said email: http://30.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_li9cvfKy861qzt1jfo1_500.png

And if I have enough time I will gather all of my screenshot material and post something on my tumblr or blog as to why I’ve terminated their sponsorships.

  83. Akiko March 18, 2011 at 3:50 pm #

I agree with those who have been saying that it’s not so much the operation that was the scam, but the fact that these sellers were marketing their things as handmade. I can buy a roll of Nestle Tollhouse at the grocery store, bake up some cookies and stick ’em in a box and then sell them as “homemade” because yeah, I “made” them in my home. But I’d clearly be deceiving people into thinking that they were created from scratch with flour and sugar and butter and chocolate chips instead of just a roll of refrigerated dough. It’s probably not completely illegal by Etsy standards, but it’s certainly not ethical and is misrepresenting the product.

This is why the commerce department cracked down on stuff like handbags whose materials were made in China but then assembled in the U.S. You cannot claim to be “Made in the USA” unless the majority of the materials your product are actually made here. Simply having an assembly factory in the U.S. is not enough.

I did have the misfortune of falling for Miss Demented’s scam, as I was desperate for a pink wig to go with an 80s costume and I was naively impressed with this young girl who seemed to have a good business head on her shoulders and was really enterprising. There is nothing wrong with being the middle man. That’s how the U.S. economy runs. Do you really think the dude at the movie concession stand went out and picked the corn kernels and turned them into popcorn? Of course not! The company buys the corn for pennies and then turns around and sells it to you at a 1,000 percent markup. Sure, you could probably get popcorn from somewhere else and then sneak it in with you to the movie theater, but most people would rather take advantage of the convenience and luxury of just getting it there, despite the fact that what costs them about 10 cents to make is costing you $8. However, Century 21 doesn’t purport to grow its own corn and harvest it and pop it, and then raise cows to provide milk that can be churned into butter so they can put it on the popcorn. You know they got it from somewhere else and you’re just paying them for the convenience of providing it to you. So there’s the difference. If these wig sellers would have just been straightforward and said, “I hand-alter high-quality wigs for a custom look” instead of “I make all my wigs by hand,” I think people would not be so outraged as they are. It’s just a shame all around. But I hope these young ladies have learned a very important lesson through all of it. Maybe not, as some of the posters here are suspecting that now they’re just running stores under different names.

Oh well. At least we now know.

  84. Ashley March 18, 2011 at 5:17 pm #

I completely agree with you Akiko, I think it’s mostly because they claimed that they were handmade that has people upset, had they been honest and said altered or styled or whatever they more than likely would have still had plenty of sales, Especially Miss D with all her two tone wigs, she did technically create the wig, but by sewing 2 premade wigs together, not fully handmade.

  85. PussDaddy March 25, 2011 at 12:32 pm #

    It’s ALL about the handmadeness.

  87. Meh April 11, 2011 at 3:54 am #

WTF What happened to ALL the negatives that MissVioletLace accumulated since she was busted? Etsy removed them!! They are fucking idiots.

  88. Eerie April 11, 2011 at 1:45 pm #

Yes because this is totally different from those sellers that sell repackaged resin and resin hardeners right?

  89. Eerie April 13, 2011 at 2:19 pm #

You know at first I was devastated about this whole thing.
    Then I came the conclusion…
I love the wig I bought from Miss Demented.
I paid $130 for it but I know for sure I would have paid around the same amount to get my hair done in the same color, cut and style as my wig.

I went into the local salon about 3months ago to find out how much it would cost to get my bangs dyed bright pink and you know what they quoted me?
$70 just to bleach my bangs, and I would have to purchase the pink hair dye for them to apply to my bleached bangs.

So far all the wig comparisons have been for wigs I probably would never wear and most likely are not heat styleable.

Sure, she should have open about it all from the start but she may not have known that she was doing anything wrong.

Does all this discount all the happy customers that would return anyway (like me) flame me all you want Pussy Daddy (you sure seem like a piece of work)
But I have not found any of the wigs I love in Miss Demented’s store in any ebay store or listing.

Nothing can disparrage the awesomeness I feel when I put on my Miss Demented wig and get all the compliments I get, even upon divulging to the person complimenting me that it’s a wig.

I know that I can put on that wig, step out the door and look freaking awesome.
What’s more, I don’t have to go to some overpriced salon and pay upwards of $100 for something that lasts 2 weeks, maybe less because I am not a hairdresser and don’t know how to look after the hairstyle like a hairdresser does.
Plus the fact that I’d have to pay for getting my regrowth re-bleached then re-dyed.

Now that I know what I am paying for with one of her wigs, I hopefully can decide for myself if I should buy another one (unless of course if everyone gets their way and she closes down)

I see it this way, she is able to do what I cannot, she does a couple of ebay wigs justice creatively.
Sells the result and wants to make a profit from it, just like anyone else on etsy.

I will be buying again and I don’t care what anyone else has to say about it.
Her wigs bring me great joy and who is anyone else to say that’s wrong?

  90. Birdy April 14, 2011 at 3:31 pm #

@eerie—i see your point with some that she actually does something to…but I purchased one to the tune of $74 that is IDENTICAL to one on ebay for less than $30. I actually have no problem with a business purchasing wholesale and reselling…that is what most retail businesses are about. I dont even have a problem with her two-tone wigs or others that she actually does something to….but to purchase something from china, slap it in an envelope and call it handmade is what bothers me. That is fraud and no matter how attractive some of her “altered” wigs are, I would never in a million years purchase from her again because of the deception. And it wasn’t just the wig I purchased that was unaltered, just with some quick looks on ebay I have found quite a handful of wigs that she sold with absolutely no alterations whatsoever. Etsy is a handmade community and everyone is required to adhere to the TOU’s. You can’t play dumb with some stuff…if you purchase a wig from china and do nothing to it—that’s not handmade.

  91. Eerie April 17, 2011 at 6:00 pm #

@Birdy- I could understand your upset, I wouldn’t be happy about it either.

I did notice from the start however, that most of her Ready To Ship wigs looked too similar to some I’ve seen on ebay previously so I didn’t really pay any mind to them.

I don’t know if I will be purchasing any wigs from her in the future after all.
If I do, they will be the two toned or three toned ones…

I can’t really vouch for her choices to overcharge for ebay wigs, but the prices of the two or multiple-color wigs can be put down to price of the individual wigs she uses to combine plus labor costs as from what I’ve seen, can be confusing and maybe a tedious task. She does need to profit.

I am thinking of just buying heat styleable ebay wigs and altering them myself in the future though.

I have to say, and I am in no way being bitchy by saying this…
However, I doubt that anyone can really ask for a refund for buying a wig from MD or MVL that is exactly like an ebay wig because of overpricing because the argument of “shopping around” is up to the customer.

Just a bit of food for thought.

  92. Birdy April 18, 2011 at 10:24 am #

@eerie, I don’t think you are being bitchy about it. I personally wouldn’t ask for a refund because I was the stupid one and thought that people on etsy were all legitimate artisans. I actually never even thought to look on ebay for wigs—especially “handmade”. It is buyer beware and I am ok with that….I just don’t do business with companies that rip people off (the rip off was the claims of handmade in my opinion, not the actual prices—all businesses need to make profit). I paid for what I thought was handmade so when purchasing, it was worth what I paid…it’s like buying a designer handbag at $300 only to find out you just purchased a knock-off that you can get at the fleamarket for $25. You’re not opposed to the knock-off…just wouldn’t have paid the price if you knew what it was.

  93. Eerie April 19, 2011 at 2:07 am #

    I agree with you there.
I may or may not have bought the wig if I had of known, but then again the wig I bought is one of the awesome looking two toned ones that I’ve seen nothing similar to on ebay so maybe I still would have…

If I regret anything about the wig I did buy from her is that it’s too long and gets a little tangled from the wind blowing and from just it rubbing across my back as I walk.

I knew that some of the ready to ship ones weren’t really worth the price she was charging, and it does annoy me that she is trying to sell those as her own, I guess I have learned enough to trust my own instincts 😛

Maybe I will post a link here when I decide to stop talking about and actually do alter a wig… XD

  94. Darryl April 27, 2011 at 3:25 am #

Hello all I have been banned from posting on jencates missdementedisfake blog and little cheif honeybee blog. And I find it funny that I was banned (after posting on honeybees blog) from both sites at once but thats a different story anyways I would like to post the conversation from jencates missdementedisfake blog because I was banned from honeybees after one post which is odd so i could not continue a conversation but heres what I posted from jencates site.

“Darryl said… Im just wondering I know you say that MD buys her wigs off ebay but wheres the proof? Just cause the wig caps look the same doesnt mean anything. Now im not saying she doesnt buy her wigs and style them but wheres the real proof that the ones on ebay are the exact ones and she just gives them a hair cut. Im just asking cause without some hard evidence of that its just slander. They may be similar but I really dont think there the exact same ones. I just notice that jen always talks about ebay and posts links directley to wigs whos to say she doesnt have a store and this is all to make you buy from her. Just asking again since there was an earlier post about jen having a store which she never confirmed nor denied. April 25, 2011 5:04 AM”

“ate said… @Darryl The sellers in Ebay are mostly all from China so I can guarantee you that Jen’s not sending us to stores where she is the seller…also if you look a little deeper into MD’s buying patterns you can actually see what buyers she has bought wigs from on Ebay and resold in her own store. I’m not mad that she is a reseller, lord knows that is what retail is but the fact that she promoted them as handmade by herself is the issue. Obviously her store no longer says that they are handmade but if you look at the screenshots of her shop prior to this whole drama-lama the evidence is pretty clear. It’s whatever though, I’m over it. I don’t see this page as an attack of MD or MVL, but basically a place where people can be informed before making a purchase. If they still decide to buy from them after reading this information, more power to them. I for one will look elsewhere. April 25, 2011 8:56 AM”

“arryl said… Hmm about you being pretty sure jen doesnt have a store or work for an ebay seller to do this type of work, which is whitehat and blackhat marketing, if it is true cannot be said because this is the internet and anyone can be who ever they want. Now again using evidence that these sellers are buying these wigs from a certain seller based on a pattern is not evidence that they do. Again not saying that they dont buy solid wigs and dye them and cut them to make them unique. But saying that they buy from specific sellers resale them you cannot because your evidence is a possibilty not a fact. You need to have bank statements or reciepts or shipping evidence that it went to there place of business. Now onto the word handmade has anyone looked up the definition of the word. It has a very loose definition. All it says is something that is made by hand not by machine. Now before you go jumping down my throat saying well if they are buying these wigs from mass producers there not hand made but think about this does a clothes designer thread and weave all the fabric then cut the design and sow it together. No they buy a sheet of fabric and sow it into something. So were these girls actually wrong to put hand made on there website if they bought there material cut it different ways dyed it and sowed in new pieces to make it different keep in mind doing all this by hand. Now I know you all say but the prices are outrages well should someone not be paid for there time and labor. Has anyone here actually ever custom handmade a wig cap I bet its not that easy go ahead buy one try it you might end up buying two maybethree before you get it right but by that time was it worth it. You could have bought one of these girls wigs all ready cut dyed added to whatever for the same price you just bought those two or three wigs for. In my eyes these wigs are hand made. April 25, 2011 2:25 PM”

Now Im just posting this cause everyone needs to think about this you cant go accusing people of things without truth and so far all this evidence is circumstantial. Id like to see peoples responses to this so please dont ban like jencate and honeybee did cause im just asking questions to make you think.

  95. Darryl April 27, 2011 at 3:29 am #

And just so everyone can verify, this conversation it is still on the missdementedisfake blog and the person that wrote back to me goes by kate I dont believe this to be jencate in the slightest.

  96. Ashley April 27, 2011 at 5:49 am #

Darryl if you really look some of the wigs are the exact same ones, there are plenty of pics that make this very obvious, but not all of them. There are some that she does alter, and all her 2 tone wigs and such i think can be rightly classified as handmade since she has taken two or more separate things and put them together her self. I’ve found since this whole thing started the two girls seem to be making more of an attempt to put more wigs like these on there site, especially MVL her etsy shop seems to be all wigs that she has actually altered and done things to. I don’t think people were so mad about the ones like that, MD really did put work into them and the prices she charges for them are fair based on the cost of supplies and factoring in time and labor, I think people were most upset about the ones that she did nothing to and simply resold them for 40-50 more than they can be found on ebay. And as you said making a wig from scratch is probably not an easy thing and it is very time consuming, so much so that if you look at her earlier sales patterns and the volume of her sales, there is just no way it is humanly possible that she would be able to make all of the wigs from scratch as quick as she did, unless it was all she did 24/7, and even then it would be a stretch. As MD has said in many places, she is a full time student, so she does this part time to make money and what not, there is no way she’d be able to go to school full time and make all the wigs from scratch unless she never sleeps or something. And MVL has openly admitted that her wigs are ALTERED wigs and they have both changed their shop info since this started, taking out the section where they claimed the wigs to be handmade, so to me that says something.
And about JenCate possible being a store owner doing this to get people to buy from her, like Kate said The sellers in Ebay are mostly all from China and Jen she has never said to go buy from these stores she has simply provided links to different ones, MANY different ones, so unless she ones like 10 different ebay stores from various parts of Asia, i highly doubt this to be the case.

  97. Darryl April 27, 2011 at 6:46 am #

Ashley I really like your comment it was well composed and the most logical post I have read so far. I agree with everything you said except for the part about JenCate only because it is my opinion that anyone can be anyone they want on the internet. And I would also like to point out that I also said she could be someone that is hired to do this type of work buy an ebay seller and companys do hire people to ruin other companys to eliminate competition no matter how small. Again I have no proof of this but nor do I have proof that it is false.

  98. Birdy April 27, 2011 at 8:02 am #

@Darryl—yes anyone can be anyone they want on the internet. But I think that it’s somewhat a ridiculous assumption that SEVERAL wig businesses would be hiring someone to ruin MD. First of all, there are several clear examples of MD’s wig reselling (and I know because I own one that is unaltered from MD and I found the EXACT same one on ebay). So basically MD would have to purchase from these sites to sell on etsy. The company in china gets their cut because it has been purchased by MD. Why try to ruin her? Makes absolutely no sense. From what I gather MD never got a discount for her purchases so whether she buys them or a customer buys directly—the wig companies get their money.

Second, isn’t what your doing by saying this about Jencate the exact same thing you are criticizing her of doing with MD and MVL (slander)….and by the way, she has much more convincing proof than you do.

And for the record, I have no idea who jencate really is and mostly could care less. Where my concern has been is the lie of claiming things to be handmade that really are not. Even if you claim MD makes her own wigs and they just HAPPEN to look exactly like ebay wigs….wouldn’t that make her at the very least a copy-cat. I mean I am no hairstylist or even that creative with hair, but I know I could come up with completely different ideas for wigs than what I see on the internet. Also, I have no problem with MD or MVL selling altered items (which to me is considered handmade by etsy standards)…just don’t resell your factory made stuff and claim it to be handmade.

    Just some food for thought.

  99. Kaelah Bee April 27, 2011 at 8:15 am #

@Darryl: I’m not sure why you’re making things up, but you are NOT banned from my blog. I’ve never banned anyone from posting… so please don’t go around making false accusations. You left a comment last night, which was fine, and I replied. At the time I had no idea who “Jen” was but now I understand who you’re referring to. Even still, do not go and say that you were “banned from the blog” when that could not be farther from the truth.

I personally don’t care what anyone is doing with this situation anymore because I don’t support any of the sellers. I don’t even know what has transpired in the past couple of weeks because I became bored with the whole thing after Tiffany DeMichele attempted to threaten to sue me (which she never did, obviously. Because she knows she’s a liar). My post on my blog was to share the information I had found and believed myself. From this point on, I’m not even concerned with it. I am, however, concerned with you spouting off that you’ve been banned for some ridiculous reason, which we have proven to not be the case. Please think before you speak.

  100. Darryl April 27, 2011 at 2:30 pm #

@Birdy: I am not assuming anything I simply stated an opinion there is no facts or truth behind. The only reason I stated it is to raise questions just so everyone knows dont believe everything you read. And as far as me producing slander I have not because what I have said is strictly opinions and questions im not posting to convince anyone of anything. I am simply asking questions to make people look at this from both sides because without looking at both sides you cannot make an informed decision.

@kaelah Bee: I am sorry I should have put I think I have been banned. The reason I put it in the first place is because right after I posted on your site which I assume correct me if I am wrong is seperate from the missdemented is fake site, I was unable to post at either site so you are right I made an assumption without fact and I should not have posted it like that. But im sure any one else would have reason to believe the same.

    @Nikki Kelly
Now that I think of it, when MD did have her FB page going, she had a friend asking her how she does so well and then MD replied saying she’d Inbox her how to do well.

    Maybe that was Krista?

PussDaddy do have a job? You post WAY too much on here and Regretsy SO much I’ll be shocked if you do.
And your inane comments are classless and arrogant at best. Grow up. You’re not funny, entertaining or at all interesting. zzzz Go away.

I’m glad I came across this as I was considering purchasing one of her wigs. I certainly can’t afford to spend that much and get ripped off.

also somewhat disappointed in some people who consider wigs juvenile and that people who buy these products deserve crap. some of us aren’t lucky enough to have a full head of hair. I’m quickly losing all of mine. Be happy that you can be so judgmental while you walk around with your nice real hair.

Etsy’s done it again – MLV is featured in the Etsy newsletter this week, with some really bogus looking pictures of her and her mum “Making” the wigs..
