She’s been on Etsy for a while and obviously sells handmade things…so why on earth would she start selling mass produced shit all of a sudden? This is outrageous.

Her “handmade” owl necklace.

Another “handmade” owl necklace.

That picture is obviously just cropped from a picture off Alibaba. There are so many mass produced owl necklaces similar to that one!

The nerve of her to rip buyers off!

Her shop seems to be uh ohed. Did they boot her? That doesn’t seem likely.

The links work fine for me.

HOW is this shop STILL open!!?!

    http://www.etsy.com/people/iambridal

We’ve called them out a dozen times it feels like.

That’s quite the mark-up! And if I’m reading the Alibaba product description right, it comes already on the chain so she didn’t even have to assemble it? Man, I need to ditch my morals and get in on this action!

Actually there is a shop on Etsy and Ebay that sells these little owl pendants. The shops are from China, so my guess is that they buy the pendants and then add a chain to it.
Which is what I would say about 60-80% of the jewelry sellers on etsy do anyway.

What the hell kind of descriptions are those…

please see my policy page before purchasing

    and

click here to see more of my designs.

I would trust this seller with a 10 foot pole.

Great insight into Etsy’s target demographic: innumerate young women (incapable of comparison shopping, and figuring ‘greater than’ and ‘less than’) who have never had the need to consider the value of something before making a purchase.

  8. Christa March 18, 2011 at 9:21 pm #

    WOW
She is actually charging $48 for that owl necklace?!
    http://www.etsy.com/listing/69963709/carrie-a-vintage-style-owl-necklace
I bought the same owl on ebay for $3 INCLUDING shipping.
    The nerve of her!

This was in an FP treasury page, listed as vintage:
    http://www.etsy.com/listing/69464749/vintage-large-enameled-butterfly-moth?ref=fp_treasury_10

It’s not vintage and easily found all over the web in various colors.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Swarovski-Crystal-Pink-Cicada-Bug-Scarf-Brooch-Pin-/370492972184?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item56431a1c98

I imagine the seller may have left out the word “cicada” from the description in hopes that it might not be caught as easily. I don’t know anything about vintage but even I could tell, just by looking at it, that it was suspicious, and found the duplicates on the web in seconds. I didn’t look at her other items but I would bet most are new junk jewelry.

  10. lurking March 18, 2011 at 11:46 pm #

Adding to my above post…looking at the rest of her shop and sold items she does appear to be selling at least partially real vintage. So it could be possible that she didn’t realize the cicada brooch was new (unless the new ones are reproductions and her’s is an old original). Hard to say, someone on here will probably have a more educated opinion on this.

    newfashionedwhispers reply:

I assemble mine in my studio and buy the parts from overseas. plus they come gift wrapped with free earrings that are handmade aswell!

    My sister’s reply:
That “vintage” Owl is an wholesale item that you buy all over the web. There is nothing handmade about it. etsy will be notified. This is just plain wrong.

I’ll remove the listing and contact ETSY myself.

  14. em March 20, 2011 at 3:38 pm #

LOL Christa – as if assembling it and gift wrapping justifies the huge markup.

  15. Christa March 21, 2011 at 2:41 am #

Oh my god! sorry guys! I didn’t mean to repost that over and over..I had trouble posting it the first time, and I thought it was because the post was too long with all my links to ebay and alibaba, so I removed the links and posted it again..and again. haha
    SORRY!

And I totally agree Em. That price raise is totally ridiculous. The wrapping must be made of GOLD! LOL VINTAGE gold! haha
I’m going to go through her shop now that my boys are in school, since I’m SO bored, and see what else I can shake her up about. That’s how I roll.

  16. Christa March 21, 2011 at 2:47 am #

Oh and I got another shop to remove all their items yesterday too…either they did or etsy is finally listing to us when we report people that are bringing etsy “down” by resellers like these pathetic people.
    This one.
    http://www.etsy.com/shop/wishes2011

She was selling Chinese wholesale items such as long wallets for $25 that you can get on ebay for $4.50, and these lights lol
    http://cgi.ebay.ca/Changing-Color-Floating-Rose-Flower-LED-Candle-lights-/120700813869?pt=Candles&hash=item1c1a54422d
    And these “handmade” book ends!

    http://cgi.ebay.ca/New-CB2031-Personality-Metal-Bookends-105mm-x-85mm-/250791993693?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a645e215d#ht_2606wt_1139
SOME people. Ugh. IF it were etsy listening, It’s nice to see them is finally starting doing something about the mess these people cause. I would love to get a job for listing removals. lol I would ROCK at it. *toot toot my own horn* =P

Here’s another of her overpriced “vintage” designs. It’s a bird cage, all rusty/rustic and what not on ..also on ebay for $5.
All she did was add a chain and bow to it, and is pricing it for $45.
    This chick needs a smack.
    Here’s hers.
