Dolls & Miniatures

5 Apr

Here’s a big list.  I’ve been saving up (and waiting months for Etsy to do something about the flags and emails).

Pocowai is selling brand new plastic toys from Japan, not even trying to pretend they’re handmade.  A typical description:
1. 100% New. Never been used.
2. With original box and toys still in the sealed bag (Never been opened).
3. This miniature set is made by Re-ment (Japanese Toy Co.)

for example –
And now, some Hobby Lobby resellers.

MiamiExpressionArt is reselling several items from craft stores as if they were handmade.  For instance,
Her listing:

Hobby Lobby:

“All my items are made in the US and make for a great gift :)”  No, they’re made in China and Taiwan.

MiniatureMenuSupply is a little more honest.

Her listing for 4 plates (“They are not handmade.”)

Hobby Lobby’s listing for 4 plates and silverware:

Her listing for 3 pans:

Hobby Lobby – 4 pans

RoyAltis – another shop reselling miniatures from Hobby Lobby – though her profile talks about coming from eBay, so she probably thinks etsy is just another venue to sell whatever you want.  Easy to see how people might think that these days.

For instance:

Hobby Lobby:

Hobby Lobby:

Another reseller shop: awesomeminiatures

Her listing:

” Each item is handmade individually with care ” – Yeah, in a factory.
Identical sewing machine from Hong Kong:

Finally, GardenBarn‘s “handmade” miniature garden items can be found in shops over the internet.  After several flaggings and queries, Etsy has responded that they’re “working with her.”

GardenBarn has been called out before, and the shop has been on Etsy for over 3 years. What does ‘working with her’ mean? I think it means: GardenBarn has one of the Etsy trend looks down cold, so what she needs to do is list some vintage shield items, while she continues to resell. WTF?

This is the GardenBarn callout from last year:

So, yeah, Etsy has been working with her for at least a year, since I’m guessing she got lots of flags last April. What a crock.

Good job everyone, it looks like all of these listings have been removed.

I’m not sure what was accomplished other than specific items called out being removed? I just visited GardenBarn’s shop, and she is still reselling commercial miniatures.

This shop has a history of being a reseller and has been dealt with by Etsy in the past but has returned to sell most of the same things again:

His items are usually described as being “made by a top British craftsman,” and they bear a striking resemblance to items made by various DIFFERENT British miniaturists, such as:

    is the same as:

    And this bed:

    is the same as this:

In the past he has also sold items like this diving helmet:

as if they were handmade, but really they are mass-produced and found on keychains and necklaces everywhere:

So at least Etsy put a stop to that.

Ha! Another Etsy store selling the same unaltered Diving Helmet keychain as handmade, plus a bunch of other similar things.
