Worst Etsy description for the day-

http://www.etsy.com/listing/66064652/art-deco-big-ben-moon-beam-light-up
“Nice vintage style Art deco Birg Ben Moon Beam Alarm clock. This clock is new then the original moon beam clock but still 20 years old. So what do I call it repro vintage? Oh well. It is very clean as seen int he pictures and the clock is working. I have not teste the light because I do not have a light bulb that fits. I think it just needs a new blub. ”

Or just buy it brand new from LL Bean for a few more bucks:
http://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/63179?feat=2-SR0
or amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Big-43000-Moonbeam-Alarm-Clock/dp/B00013K6WS

Update: Response from seller “I didnt buy it from LL Bean. If LL Bean is makeing them thats not my problem they can repro it all they want. mine DID not come from Bean. It has also been up for months with no problem. you can etsycallout it all you want.”
WJW.

Just to clairify, no one is  saying they purchased it from LL Bean. Because it is available on other sites it is proving that they didn’t not make it. It’s funny the seller didn’t try to argue that point, simply that they didn’t buy it from LL Bean.

Sent a message to him and I get this is response:

Just as I suspected a caddy house mommy with hot glue crafts. get a life!

    What an A-HOLE!

  2. Ewww May 11, 2011 at 10:54 am #

    Reported the item

  3. wildernest@gmail.com May 11, 2011 at 11:25 am #

HAHAHAHAHA! All of the 2 people that read this need a life!

  4. AngryEtsySeller May 11, 2011 at 11:31 am #

Classy. Good spotting though! I would’ve never guessed this one.

  5. Ewww May 11, 2011 at 11:37 am #

Ohhhh I am guessing wildernest is the seller…..they are clueless!

  6. kitten May 11, 2011 at 11:41 am #

Isn’t it possible it was remade by someone other than L.L. Bean a few years ago? Kind of like those rhinestone kitty cat kitchen wall clocks? I can’t compare them side by side on my phone, but they do look a little different. (I think)

A little confused who called who an A-hole.

  7. oneangrybird May 11, 2011 at 12:08 pm #

Regardless of where the clock came from – and as the seller says “oh well” —— this listing is atrocious and laughable and embarrassing 2 boot!

This is what happens when a site doesn’t give a rat’s hiney if the TOU are followed!

Um seller, just a quick reread and you would have seen all of the typos and maybe, possibly realized your “tone” was sooo WTF that even ‘you’ wouldn’t be interested!

Oh, let’s see. I found this rubber boot on the side of the road, I don’t know what to call it – retro- used – maybe new -…. it doesn’t work, there’s a hole in it but you could fix the hole if you have rubber cement, I just don’t have any!

GREAT Call Out – made my day 🙂

  8. Life During Wartime May 11, 2011 at 12:18 pm #

The seller knows that the item isn’t vintage because they listed it in a handmade category! Unless the top level category was changed after they saw the callout?

No, LL Bean does not make these reproductions. You can purchase a factory fresh version for LESS than C3L35T3 is asking at this link, where a description identifies the manufacturer:

    http://denverclockcompany.3dcartstores.com/Classic-1950s-Moonbeam-Alarm-Clock-by-Westclox_p_129.html?gclid=CNf33J7Z4KgCFUNd5Qodjmmx2A

It is possible that Westclox has been reproducing this item since 1991, and the item in question might be vintage. Before listing the clock, the seller should have found out when Westclox first issued their repros, and of course listed the item as vintage…if they discovered it was 20+ years old. The price asked for this newish used item is of course typical Etsy nonsense.

Here’s a listing on Amazon, complete with reviews — some not so positive about this poorly made (in China) repro:

    http://www.amazon.com/Westclox-Moonbeam-Yellow-Alarm-Clock/product-reviews/B003ISTH2I

You would think that C3L35T3 would have stated where their clock was made to establish their item is vintage?

  9. Ewww May 11, 2011 at 12:36 pm #

Just saw all the typos! What a dumbass!

  10. Life During Wartime May 11, 2011 at 12:40 pm #

But the ‘dumbass’ knows how to stage their photos with deer props. And they’ve been open for over 2 years on Etsy.

I have a post above awaiting moderation with more documenting links.

  11. cynicallyopenminded May 11, 2011 at 12:46 pm #

Fine…so the seller didn’t buy it from LLBean. Perhaps it was Amazon.com These are cheaper and I’d bet the light bulb works, to boot.

    http://www.amazon.com/Westclox-Moonbeam-Yellow-Alarm-Clock/dp/B003ISTH2I/ref=pd_bxgy_e_img_c

  12. Trista May 11, 2011 at 1:27 pm #

Yeah, I’m sure they didn’t buy it from LL Bean. Why buy it there when it’s even cheaper on Amazon?

    http://www.amazon.com/Big-43000-Moonbeam-Alarm-Clock/dp/B00013K6WS

  13. Trista May 11, 2011 at 1:30 pm #

    lol whoops, comment twins. 😉

I’m confused about their listing – they say they altered this somehow. Exactly what did they do? Take out the lightbulb??

  14. oneangrybird May 11, 2011 at 1:38 pm #

    @Trista – lol…

and deer staging is so 2010! Oh, but I bet she was the first one to do it!

I am going to go scour her shop and find other tidbits and flag them cuz I have nothing better to do and she pissed me off!

  15. Jamie May 11, 2011 at 1:55 pm #

She is very rude in her convo’s, told me to “fuck off house mommy”, like having kids is a negative thing? I feel bad for whomever she is with, they have to deal with that!

Someone peed in her cereal this morning

Don’t get all angry because you got caught!

  16. C3L35t3 May 11, 2011 at 1:57 pm #

Yeah my entire deal is buying clocks from Bean for $45 and selling them on etsy as a loss. You cought me!

We all can’t be Hotglue crafters

  18. Jamie May 11, 2011 at 1:59 pm #

I wouldn’t go as far as calling your self a crafter…you make NOTHING

  19. Ewww May 11, 2011 at 2:03 pm #

    Care to comment on this:

Just to clairify, no one is saying they purchased it from LL Bean. Because it is available on other sites it is proving that they didn’t not make it. It’s funny the seller didn’t try to argue that point, simply that they didn’t buy it from LL Bean.

  20. C3L35t3 May 11, 2011 at 2:09 pm #

Okay I DID NOT buy it retail. Is that better?

  21. Trista May 11, 2011 at 2:18 pm #

Oh, you got it a yard sale?

  22. cynicallyopenminded/notahotgluecrafter May 11, 2011 at 2:19 pm #

    Exactly, ewww…

The seller didn’t “buy” it from LLBean…maybe it was one of the numerous other sites.

My guess is this: C3L35t3 found that clock at a flea market, did minimal research, figured out the bulb was broken (oh well), and since it “looks” vintage, it must be vintage. Now C3L35t3 is hoping that someone is stupid enough to be fooled.

  23. cynicallyopenminded/notahotgluecrafter May 11, 2011 at 2:30 pm #

Look C3L35t3, perhaps you honestly thought you purchased a vintage, albeit broken, alarm clock. You got duped. Suck it up and take a hit in the wallet. What really blows is that I don’t think this is the case, due to your convoluted description. It sounds like you know exactly what you are doing. And that rots. 24 people have favorited that item and think that they could be purchasing a working/broken, repro/vintage, handmade/made in China clock. If it was an honest mistake, fine. But if I was a buyer (which I am), and read EtsyCallout (which I do), I would skip your shop because it is a question of integrity.

  24. Yaya May 11, 2011 at 2:55 pm #

What a fucking douchebag. It doesn’t matter where you bought it. Its NOT more than 20 years old or handmade by you. Its NOT ALLOWED ON ETSY.

  25. Fake May 11, 2011 at 3:50 pm #

C3L35t3: Maybe you’d have better luck selling your alarm clock on that ‘other’ e-site. You know Ebay. Sorry, but your shitty alarm clock doesn’t belong on Etsy – a site for handmade and vintage.

  26. sickofetsy May 11, 2011 at 4:22 pm #

    “teste”
    “blub”
    “vintage”

LMAO best laugh I’ve had all day!

I love how she says “teste” instead of tested. haha

Nice vintage style Art deco Birg (Big) Ben Moon Beam Alarm clock. This clock is new (newer) then (than) the original moon beam clock but still 20 years old. =================================================
There you go, Celeste. Free proofreading and editing. Are you not capable of reading and proofing your own listings? This is the worst spelling and the most typos I’ve ever seen in one listing. One illegal listing, that is. Stop listing fake vintage and get someone to read your descriptions.

  30. etsy flea market May 12, 2011 at 4:14 am #

Just sell your non-vintage, non-supply, non-handmade junk on ebay like the rest of the free world.

Or keep it. Seriously, that’s what I would do.

And as my parting note: I reported you. Suck it.

    Hi,
Glue Gun from Hobby Lobby here.

I for one am insulted that someone is smack-talking my abilities.

    OMG —–

Current Treasury has a pair of Nordstrom mules from the 1990’s that the seller says are from the 70’s.
They were akin to the stretchy fabric boot so popular in the early 90’s. I had a pair and I worked at Nordstroms then!

I understand that some of these ‘hipsters’ are young but just because they don’t remember everything from the 90’s does automatically mean it’s from the 70’s!!!

I mean come on – does that heal look like a 70″s heel?

and that fake Vintage seller with the 510BC Brick is on there again too!

    It’s so sad….

    Why do I care?????

  35. Life During Wartime May 12, 2011 at 10:45 am #

Heh, you beat me to it, oneangrybird! I had to empty the dishwasher before I called out those shoes.

Anyone old enough to have been shopping in the 70s would know that there were no stretchy fabric shoes then. Spandex was just starting to show up in swim suit fabrics at the very end of the 70s! Besides the heel is totally wrong for 70s. Not ‘science fiction’ but ‘vintage fiction’. Who is supposed to be vetting these FP treasuries?

  36. joybells May 12, 2011 at 11:11 am #

The FP today has been all regulars. I can’t even go there anymore it’s so obvious that they are etsy favorites.

  37. cynicallyopenminded/notahotgluecrafter May 12, 2011 at 12:20 pm #

sooooo sick of the FP favoritism. in addition, it is the same boring color scheme most of the time. I’m thinking of doing FP bingo…just putting the overexposed sellers in the squares, having that free space in the middle…and yelling something rude instead of “bingo”.

  38. Life During Wartime May 12, 2011 at 12:25 pm #

The clock is still listed as handmade/housewares. Where does the seller claim to have ‘altered’ this item?

  39. sickofetsy May 12, 2011 at 12:45 pm #

What does a pair of non-vintage shoes have to do with science?

  40. sickofetsy May 12, 2011 at 12:46 pm #

LDW, she altered it by removing the blub.

  41. um no May 12, 2011 at 3:02 pm #

    pfahahahahaha!!!!

  42. Life During Wartime May 12, 2011 at 4:09 pm #

sickofetsy, unfortunately removing the blub might be an Etsy-legal alteration. I am half expecting the clock to show up on the FP soon.

  43. um no May 12, 2011 at 6:57 pm #

I’m seriously gonna start calling them blubs.

  44. Trista May 13, 2011 at 5:58 am #

ParisTotes (who was called out a few days ago) is on the FP right now.

  45. Yaya May 13, 2011 at 6:54 am #

Nothing in this shop complies with the TOU. Reported several times.

  46. sickofetsy May 13, 2011 at 7:09 am #

Yaya, ya mean those knock off LeSport Sacs aren’t handmade?

  47. hagwithmorals May 13, 2011 at 7:38 am #

    What a dumbass!

Her shop has been opened since 2008 and she still doesn’t have the first clue how to tag and list her items. The alarm clock listing is hysterical!

    Tags:
    handmade, housewares, bedroom, clock, retro

    Materials:
vintage, alarm clock, moon beam, electric, found, fun

  48. oneangrybird May 13, 2011 at 8:02 am #

The clock moron’s shop is overall a total mess!
her listings are so bad I can’t believe anyone would favorite anything let alone buy her crap!

She doesn’t spell check anything nor list sizing or measurements – she has handmade electronic/electric/battery operated items???? now that is some science worth a FP feature!

  49. hagwithmorals May 13, 2011 at 8:10 am #

Please don’t give her any more help with editing or instructions! I’m all for helping anyone that needs help as long as they’re following the TOU.

Helping someone clean up their illegal listings so they sound coherent is just going to take business away from those that DO follow the rules and list REAL vintage.

So sick of the fuckwads that are making Etsy look like a shithole!

  50. oneangrybird May 13, 2011 at 8:11 am #

The paris baglady also has 2 other shops! She is one multi talented individual I tell ya – with all of her wholesale accounts, handmade lavender, and sewing blankets- bears- eyemasks- and a whole slew of crap one would think she was a “middleman” just selling purchased goods to all of her wholesale clients BUT NO, she is the original Etsy Octopus – 8 arms and all!

  51. Trista May 13, 2011 at 8:55 am #

    Materials:
vintage, alarm clock, moon beam, electric, found, fun

    ——————–

Anyone know a good supplier where I can buy some “vintage” and “moon beam”? I’ve looked all over for these materials but just can’t find any!

  52. cynicallyopenminded/notahotgluecrafter May 13, 2011 at 8:57 am #

Its pathetic that Etsy hasn’t taken care of this listing and the Paris BagLady. Oh well, if they can make bucks off of fake vintage scams and resellers, they will.

  53. Trista May 13, 2011 at 9:06 am #

    http://www.etsy.com/listing/72879888/cherry-blossom-handbag

Nice fake LV handbag they’ve got here. Even if it were real it still wouldn’t be vintage because the Cherry Blossom line came out in 2002.

  54. Fake May 13, 2011 at 10:18 am #

Hey, Etsy has updated the flagging system. Anyone else notice this – we are now forced to submit a ‘reason’ why the item breaks the TOU or the item cannot be flagged. I usually just say, “Take a real hard look at it dumb ass.”

  55. Life During Wartime May 13, 2011 at 10:38 am #

I used to flag any unaltered vintage/used/manufactured items I found listed in the handmade categories…with no result. Not ever. Not even one item removed or moved to vintage where appropriate. Same deal with handmade or altered things listed as vintage. Any seller can abuse the top level categories at will.

The problem is, I think, that many Etsy staffers and of course many community members (including some who sell vintage) don’t get what makes an item vintage and how to apply the Etsy TOU to their items.

    Some common Etsyverse vintage misunderstandings:

A copy in any media of a vintage item, no matter how accurately rendered, is not in itself a vintage item.

Altered (often mis-named ‘upcycled’) vintage items are no longer vintage.

Most vintage items listed on Etsy were not ‘unique and handmade, better quality’ things. They were the mass-manufactured consumer goods of decades past. Even if the manufacturing process used (such as for clothing, hand-painted dinnerware, shoes, jewelry, art potter) involved skilled artisans working with their hands, these items should not be listed as handmade on Etsy.

Unfortunately, it seems that some of the Etsy staff react like one of their beloved cliche’ deer caught in the headlights when a TOU issue involving vintage comes up. I’m not holding my breath for Etsy to deal with C3L35T3 and her de-blubed clock. The most that could happen would be Silly Sailor Braindrained Soldier HeyMichelle to tell Celeste to put the item on sale to move it quickly off the site, while leaving it listed has Handmade/Housewares.

  56. TheBargainBabe May 13, 2011 at 10:45 am #

LOL Fake! I reported the clock again today. In this case, I think the seller really did have an “oops” by thinking it was vintage and it isn’t. I would usually just not care much. BUT. She was so snotty in her replies to you all that now I care and will flag daily until it is removed.

FWIW–in my first report, I included the link to amazon so etsy would see.

  57. Megan May 13, 2011 at 6:36 pm #

    Check out this seller’s feedback:

    http://www.etsy.com/people/SweetlyFallen/feedback?ref=pr_feedback

Absolutely ridiculous! If you actually read some of them, she’s also doing crazy things like printing shipping labels months before she actually ships the items to make it LOOK like she’s shipped it.

Now, this seller has opened two different shops to “split up her stock.” Yeah right bitch. You did it to get out of your nasty feedback situation.

  58. stephanie May 13, 2011 at 7:43 pm #

OMG I read SweetlyFallen feedback. What a terrible seller. Her shop is empty BUT she opened a new shop

    http://www.etsy.com/people/sweetlyfallenbridal?ref=ls_profile

Why does Etsy allow someone with such terrible customer service continue to sell?

  59. stinkypants May 13, 2011 at 11:57 pm #

This seller wanted me to include them in my circle.

Something doesn’t smell right, especially after I read these testimonials from their website. They all sound like they were written by the same person.

    SweetlyFallen Crystal 100,000
    Dear @paypal, I can’t ship right now…PLEASE FIX IT!

  61. PussDaddy May 14, 2011 at 10:54 am #

One of the feedback says they opened a case with etsy so etsy should be aware of this shop. Why is it still open?

  62. Life During Wartime May 14, 2011 at 11:30 am #

TheBargainBabe, all vintage sellers have had an oops or two mistaking newer items for vintage.

But this seller is listing her oops in a handmade category. That is against the Etsy TOU. She dumped her oops on the artists and artisans of Etsy. That is not making a mistake. That is being unprofessional, and more than a little rude.

  63. Trista May 14, 2011 at 2:15 pm #

Raceytay is on the FP for the 4th time today. I looked at CraftCult and she’s been on the FP 34 times just this month (2 weeks). I don’t begrudge her or anything because it’s not her fault Etsy plays favorites, but it just ticks me off that Etsy *does* play favorites like this, and it’s so obvious.

There are tons of people out there with equally good pictures (or better) and many people making gorgeous treasuries that fit the “Etsy look”, yet those are always passed over in favor of the treasuries that feature the same handful of few people over and over again. I almost start to wonder if some of these people aren’t related to or friends with whoever works at Etsy and picks out the FP.

  64. Gina May 14, 2011 at 2:35 pm #

Raceytay may be a member of a team that devotes it’s time to making multiple treasuries featuring only the member’s stock. They then visit each of the other member’s treasuries, clicking on each item to increase the pages HOT listings. Hot pages are more likely to be shown on the FP. Forget trying to join this team, however! They aren’t taking new members! If I didn’t have, you know, bills to pay all by my lonesome, I too might have ALL DAY to make such pages and go visiting and clicking on all the member’s pages & photos…

    “Your report was successfully submitted!

Just as a heads up, you won’t receive an update on your submission. We’ll review this information and address any issues directly with the seller. Thanks for taking the time to help maintain the integrity of the Etsy marketplace!”
What a bunch of fucking BSS!!!!!

  66. Trista May 14, 2011 at 3:50 pm #

And Raceytay now makes appearance #6 on today’s FP…

  67. Trista May 14, 2011 at 4:56 pm #

Some interesting stats from browsing CraftCult, on a few names that I actually have memorized from seeing them on the FP so much.

    Since January 2011:

Raceytay – featured in FP 295 times. FP curator 21 times.

    sweetharvey – featured 119. curator 18.

    MySelvagedLife – featured 117. curator 12.

    Thrush – featured 95. curator 18.

    GlitzGlitter – featured 95. curator 5.

Xenotees – featured 83. (Didn’t look up how many as curator.)

    OldNewAgain – featured 82. (ditto)

    ARTISANIEeurope – featured 75. (ditto)

    PoleStar – featured 62. (ditto)

natalya1905 – featured 56. curator 22. (I’m really surprised this one isn’t higher; I swear every single time I look at the FP she’s on there.)

    Lucky, lucky them…

  68. Trista May 14, 2011 at 5:03 pm #

P.S. – I don’t mean for anyone to look at my above post as a “call out” on those people – they haven’t done anything wrong being featured so many times on the FP. I just thought it was interesting to see exactly how many times Etsy chooses certain people for the FP while so many others with fantastic items/pictures and treasuries will never stand a chance since they’re not one of Etsy’s chosen few.

  69. Trista May 14, 2011 at 5:07 pm #

LOL Guess who just made FP feature #7 for today? 😉
(I really am laughing at this point!)

(And sorry for so many posts in a row.)

  70. you suck May 14, 2011 at 6:25 pm #

waterwaif is a curator repeat and feature repeat what are her numbers?

  71. Trista May 14, 2011 at 6:43 pm #

    waterwaif – featured 46. curator 12.

  72. oneangrybird May 15, 2011 at 10:08 am #

I don’t want to look at the FP but it’s like a train wreck to me and so I keep looking and getting upset and then just start thinking – my gawd, it is a conspiracy – and then laugh and swear to myself I am not gonna look again and then I do!

I bet I could almost name off the exact members of 3 or 4 teams. I can tell who’s team is on the FP right away by the first two names in the list.

It is absurd that Etsy lets this go on but I guess whatever huh?
There are so many disturbing things on Etsy it is seriously weird.

I have been spending so much time looking for resellers, looking at the chosen few on the FP, and reading the forums I haven’t done anything for my own business. How said is that? What is the hold on me?

I mean, am I a glutton for punishment or what. I even have this website on my Favorites Toolbar!!!!

I have got to get a life!

I have tweeted the sweetlyfallen bridal crap to etsy twice including a link to both shops.

    @Trista,

Raceytay is in just shy of 34,000 treasuries. The odds of her being NOT being on the FP are very low. She’s on a lot of treasury teams who make tons of treasuries for the sole purpose of making the FP. By that I mean they capture the Etsy look, they use the monthly merchandising thingy to their advantage, they spot trends and they tag appropriately.

Not all, but most folks who complain in the forums that they are never on the FP either don’t make treasuries often (if at all), don’t tag their treasuries with pertinent tags or their treasuries they’ve made are worthy of AF’s FP. <—that is not a compliment

absolutely pathetic that this item is still listed. Way to go, Etsy. Let a “vintage” seller peddle a broken clock and the honest sellers get screwed.

“Etsy” doesn’t choose shit. They just turn a blind eye to the system gamers is all. Sometimes I think Etsy is one huge automated bot with a few assholes monitoring the forums.

Both of SweetlyFallenBridal’s etsy shops are closed. She appears to still be selling though.
