GourmetBodyShop on heartsy 6/16

13 Jun

A few of us girls from the Heartsy forum on etsy spotted a flat out re-seller. Her shop name is Gourmet Body Shop. http://www.etsy.com/people/GourmetBodyShop

Two of the girls already told Heartsy when she was already up for vote, and they still accepted her, and she’ll be selling on the 16th of this month on Heartsy!! The thought of her doing good on this day is pissing me off! She doesn’t even make her own labels! or hide the fact at all that she’s a re-seller.

Here’s the site she buys from and claims them as “hand made” by her. Here’s the Hand soap-notice the label? Wholesaler: http://www.naturalsoapwholesale.com/Liquid-Soap-85-Organic-Concentrate-for-Foaming-Pump-Bottles-16-oz_p_648.html#
Hers: http://www.etsy.com/transaction/51011936

” This is a handmade product, but not made by my hands, therefore it is listed in the supply category!!! ”

Also says that she doesn’t think people should have to pay high prices. Buys the soap for 3 bucks and sells it for 16.

Time to fund handmade, by somebody, and sell the crap as my own.

  2. stinkypants June 13, 2011 at 11:19 am #

Time to find. I have sleepy fingers. I wish more people WOULD fund handmade!

Since when is commercial organic liquid hand soap a Supply?

This is a great example of why I LMFAO at the forums thread by Etsy’s new ‘site integrity’ drone. What Etsy has always needed to support observance of the TOU by sellers is better analysis of how rules are being ignored.

I know when I worked as an analyst, one of the most important reports were errors, or transactions that couldn’t be processed. Clients wanted to know in what ways users were trying to do things they weren’t supposed to do. So they could either find better ways of educating employees, or to provide necessary new functions which the errors showed were needed. This is what Etsy consistently fails to do.

Etsy adds functions that sellers don’t care much about and don’t help us run our shops. At the same time, they ignore the ways violators get around the rules and fly under the radar. Adding more group-hugging gigglers to the staff won’t help with integrity problems. They need to get some folks with functioning brains to look at how rules are being broken.

Wow. ONe of the listings has been removed, I reported the one of the liquid lavender handsoap.

seems like a lot of soap sellers go the wholesale buying route, sad. Heartsy seems like just the kind of site to attract that kind of thing with the discounts they offer. Most sweatshop retails chains can’t even offer the kind of discounts these sellers sell themselves out for.

If enough people flag this scammy soap shop. maybe Etsy will remove her lisitngs before she has a chance to rake in the cash from her Heartsy deal.

  7. EtsyVigilante June 13, 2011 at 5:15 pm #

hagwithmorals, that is my wish as well. Flag away!

I’m getting error messages for everything but the soap samples right now; the shop is still up, but hopefully word will get out before she can make a lot of Heartsy sales. People should know! Heartsy will refund voucher purchases (done it myself), so if nothing else maybe post-sale publicity could result in a lot of refunds. Twice in the past week I’ve bought ‘handmade’ perfume through Heartsy that ended up being identical to other perfume oils I own, and between this and the soap fakers I’m really drawing away from purchasing any supposedly handmade body products at all.

    wow.. just wow. What next!

I checked out her shop and her announcement states, “For all you wonderful Etsians that are curious about my shop…I have pictures attached to my listings…If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me directly”. But her pictures are just of finished product.

This lady is crafty I give her that much, but what shit bag!

heartsy will not refund when you have purchased from a reseller and you realize it.
i was taken in by 2 heartsy resellers.

i reported gourmet for reselling to heartsy right after the deal went up for voting. i could tell it was a nsw reseller by the soap pictures. they’re pretty easy to spot once you’ve spent some time checking out the wholesaler’s site. i included proof.

when i found out that they were scheduled anyway i contacted heartsy and included the proof again, and more in depth. i was not the only one to do this.

i received this response from nathan:
Thanks for reaching out. For us etsy has been traditional a proxy for handmade goods. It seems like a safe assumption that items for sale on etsy are handmade and that is what we have been relying on. I also see a stamp “Member of handcrafted soapmaker guild” on Adam’s site. For us, it is really hard to make a very accurate assessment of how and what is not hand made. We are just a handful of people try to make it by just as anyone else in this world. I hope you understand that the VIP membership is the only way we keep the lights on here at our office and only way we can keep bringing you deals from all over the world. We work hard to make sure we work with the most professional and talented sellers and I hope take in account that we may feature a reseller every now and then, but mostly we concentrate on hand made only and stive everyday to provide an unparalleled platform to allow handmade sellers to gain exposure and visibility at a scale unseen before. Let me know if there is anything else I can do to make you stay as a VIP.

gourmet’s lotion bars and lip balms are also from nsw.

    lotion bars

    lip balms

and i think someone has already pointed out that the liquid soaps are too

Oy… “a safe assumption that items for sale on Etsy are handmade,” eh? That sounds like fingers in the ears and “I can’t heeeaaaar you!” to me. Although, sadly enough, they do have a bit of a point. Why is it Heartsy’s job to police where Etsy doesn’t? It’s not, really.

However, that seems like a dangerous stance to take for an upstart company. Why hitch your own reputation to someone else’s failing reputation? Take a little personal responsibility, Heartsy. Make yourselves out not only as a provider of deals, but as a professional team of vetters that is careful to promote only true handmade. Hold a higher standard than the venue itself.

Why was my link taken down? the blog owner has your banner up and is advertising you but you removed her link????
EtsyCallOut: We don’t dig spam. Sorry. You want to be on our links with your new blog then ask, don’t spam every thread.

Hi, I don’t know how to contact you but this reseller is really making the sellers of handmade miniatures angry as Etsy seem unwilling to take any action despite several reporting the shop with evidence of reselling. The shop is growing and growing.

Please can you help draw attention to this for us.? Thanks

This shop has been open a month now.

Flagged from the start (before any sales were made) by several people, giving links to manufacturers and details of many of the mass produced items.

The seller even originally stated the china was made by Reutter in Germany and when flagging a link was given to the page on Reutter’s site where these items were shown. Details of manufacture were given for several other items as well both by the seller in the listing and when flagging.

After a couple of weeks the shop apparently emptied, then re-opened minus the mentions of the makers and origins on most items. Some items were re-located to supplies. Coaching by Etsy?

As finished dollhouse items these are specifically named as not qualifying as supplies.

Flagging since then has had no effect and items are selling.

Collectors recognise most of the items being offered for sale as regular mass produced or cheaply made in Thailand (plants, food etc.)

Some has been sourced and evidence supplied – it would take days to find it all.

Bespaq hand-painted furniture is sold by Bespaq ready hand-painted, they are a manufacturer of a vast range of high quality furniture. This reseller stocks Bespaq.

Just a couple of examples on Etsy

One example of a web site selling Bespaq including some of their hand painted furniture.

The porcelain is by Reutter, Germany – just one example

When those of us who really make our items spend time supplying evidence like this to Etsy we really expect more from them than being ignored – we have done their work for them.

I have a list of shop items together with links to major selling sites giving plenty of proof but don’t know how to send it to you.

    Please help us

This is just sad. It is upsetting that us soap makers now have to prove we make our stuff. I have started taking pictures of my soap from the moment i pour it in my molds to the moment its cut and wrapped just to show buyers that I am honestly making my soap. I am so ashamed that our category is now infested with resellers. I thought the soap section was the one safe zone on Etsy.

  20. ohmeohmy June 14, 2011 at 2:55 pm #

Wasn’t there another soapm seller called out on the forums recently?

Now, the only category that seemed absent of resellers is changing. Looks like oyu can buy wholesale soap all over the place. Eve\n snowdrift, who has such a fine rep, is selling it.

  21. muffy June 14, 2011 at 4:34 pm #

    I wasn’t spamming, IT’S NOT MY BLOG!!!!!
    Get it correct please.

someone emailed me with the link in fact (from my person site, not blog) and I shared it here since I saw her advertising YOUR site on her page.

  22. muffy June 14, 2011 at 4:40 pm #

    or his page LOL

  23. muffy June 14, 2011 at 4:44 pm #

Sorry for serial posting, But I am the person who sent you THIS post on Gourmet, by the way! I’m the one for did the investigating. 😦 And I don’t like how you’re hurting my feelings to be honest. It could be PMS but I think you’re rude. LOL

  24. resellers suck June 14, 2011 at 5:21 pm #

maybe these comments need to be cleaned up?

  25. etsycallout June 14, 2011 at 5:53 pm #

EtsyCallOut says: It’s not your blog but you spammed every post here and now the link to us is gone?? Big coincidence right?! *end sarcasm*
Nevertheless, thanks for calling us bitches Christa Purcell! 🙂

Looks like her Artfire shop is up next on Heartsy: http://www.artfire.com/users/DebsDay
I’ve flagged people who lie about their handmade over there and seen results, so maybe it’s worth a shot.

She also stole images from twindreamcreations @etsy. She took those down when they confronted her.
