these craptastic graphic stealers have GOT TO GO. as a graphic designer myself (who only has time to maybe draw out one premade a day) it is HORRIFIC to try and compete with these theives that can drum out zillions of premades by using (STEALING) stock graphic and passing them as their own work.

    here is the custom listings

zhutianyou sells WAL-MART furniture…it’s some cheap arsed stuff. From this listing at Wally World online, it appears this is a discontinued item no longer available:

    http://www.walmart.com/ip/Wynwood-Furniture-Las-Brisas-Mansion-Bedroom-Set-in-Laguna-Cherry/14670005

Note as you scroll down that the country of origin is ‘USA or imported’, manufacturer is Wynwood.

  3. cynicallyopenminded June 15, 2011 at 1:42 pm #

and the furniture reseller is no longer there!

  4. Life During Wartime June 15, 2011 at 1:56 pm #

Yay that the furniture is gone. But why can’t Etsy find the resellers without us reporting them? Booting that shop did not require any specialist knowledge about art, crafts, or vintage from shop owners. Etsy should at least give a free listing or renewal (value 20 cents) to the first person to report/flag a no-brainer violation like this. That way when sales are slow, we can fund renewals by reporting resellers.

    great idea, wartime!

So new ads clipped from magazines are supplies? The collectibles of the future???

  7. Life During Wartime June 15, 2011 at 2:50 pm #

    Holy crowbar, Yaya!

First of all, aren’t there some kind of legal issues with using current advertisements in art/crafts you sell for profit?

As far as these ads being collectilbes of the future, no one knows. But someone saving the ads for that purpose should save them attached in the magazine. The fact that silly girls like this are cutting up recent mags for collectors proves that the uncut mag is worth more than all the ads.

Great call out, though. This one is worthy of Regretsy!

” it is HORRIFIC to try and compete with these theives that can drum out zillions of premades by using (STEALING) stock graphic and passing them as their own work.”

    Agreed.

Again, the question is, can it be called OOAK? I was thinking of offering some premades, but there is no way I would list them for less than $100–which is a steal (ie: Luxecetera was charging $1200 for their pre-mades).

But yeah, you can’t compete with $35 clip-art logos, considering the Etsy market is largely made up of people like me: stay at home moms trying to make a living from home. (le sigh).

  9. Rainy June 16, 2011 at 6:59 am #

Oh, and I don’t mean to offend anyone anyone selling clip-art logos. More power to ya.

  10. kitten June 16, 2011 at 7:01 am #

    premades for $150!!! thats madness

i got a full custom made logo that didnt have anything preemade for $90, including 1 logo, 2 busines cards (one fullsize and one moo mini ) and like 10 banners to me premade for anything more than 20$ is full theft, but if the market will bare it. go for it. personally i had i cant see any smart person paying that much for a premade. but a fool and his money are easily parted.

  11. marie June 16, 2011 at 7:16 am #

oh kitten – really? you probably got a stock art graphic then. a true custom logo takes weeks (sometimes months) to come to fruition, i couldn’t image doing that for pennies an hour. i personally think the fools are the ones buying premades for cheap (you say no more then $20) and fooling themselves that they got something authentic.

so you can think you are getting a deal, but say you make it big someday and are featured in a photog magazine with your $90 “custom” logo and some graphic designer out in new york is all “hey, that is my tree on that there logo..” hmmm, got yourself into a copyright infringement lawsuit…. didn’t save much money after all.

  12. nahgahhahh June 16, 2011 at 7:28 am #

kitten, i have to agree with marie – no way you got “full custom” anything for $90. i’m sorry you were obviously misled.

that’s the problem with etsy – its customers start to think these prices are realistic without knowing what they are paying for. kind of like if i see a “coach” purse at a street vendor, without having seen the authentic. i might think, because i’m uneducated, that a coach purse should be $35 and that anyone who would pay $350 is a fool.

  13. nahgahhahh June 16, 2011 at 7:31 am #

sorry kitten, you got duped. no way you got anything “full custom” for $90.

that’s one of the the problems with etsy – because of all the short-cutters, resellers, cheaters, stealers, copiers – its customers start to think that these prices are realistic, when they’re not. these sellers see a market and pounce on it, truth be damned.

    Scammer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. Rainy June 16, 2011 at 8:12 am #

“…because of all the short-cutters, resellers, cheaters, stealers, copiers – its customers start to think that these prices are realistic, when they’re not. ”

    Yup.

The Graphic Artist’s Guild handbook lists the going rate for logo design as anywhere from $2000 – $10,000–so, yeah.

Kitten, if you got an awesome, original logo package for $90, that’s truly great. I don’t agree with you calling others stupid, but you’re entitled to your opinion.

Personally, I think it’s “stupid” and “foolish” to pay actors millions of dollars for a movie, but that’s how much their TIME and TALENT is worth in their industry.

  16. kitten June 16, 2011 at 9:44 am #

This is the original kitten (with the teal quilt block) who isn’t calling anyone stupid.

Perhaps kitten2’s logo is as OOAK as their ECO name. 🙂

“Perhaps kitten2′s logo is as OOAK as their ECO name. ”

    LOL. Perhaps.

  19. christine June 16, 2011 at 12:17 pm #

LOL – But hey, she has sketches now, real hand drawn doodles and even says “No clip art here” in her new listings – that proves she’s legit. BWA HA HA HA

  20. Rainy June 17, 2011 at 11:50 am #

Yikes! Well, at least she’s trying.

I’m all for people succeeding on Etsy.

  21. Rainy June 17, 2011 at 11:53 am #

Wait, let me rephrase that–I’m all for people succeeding on Etsy–but never at the expense of their customers.

You just hope people learn from their errors.

  22. marie June 17, 2011 at 12:45 pm #

[LOL] i did – and i am going to try and stay out of the drama – i have actually spoken my peace with regards to above and hope to just do what i do and let others do the same. as long as i don’t feel my copyrights are being violated, i just want to do what i love (and love what i do) 🙂

Anyone notice how honeylab’s first 2 feedback are custom listings? If you dig a little deeper they appear to be from the same area, something seems hinky…
