I had never seen sideways cross jewelry until this callout, but then I treat celebrities with total ignore.

Since this is a fad, it’s not impossible that these shops are buying the same findings and making their own jewelry. The pieces appear to be simple to assemble.

  2. peevypants June 25, 2011 at 10:19 am #

so, is lisa less of a copycat because she has better photos, i wonder?

  3. Trista June 25, 2011 at 10:25 am #

Reported the first two, but the last one isn’t the same. The cross in lisa’s shop looks wider and shorter. Even in the descriptions, sandy says her’s measures 1 inch, and lisa says her’s measures 1/2 inch.

Here’s a search on Etsy for sideways cross:

A lot of the images appear to be professional pics for mass-made pieces, but there are also cross components for sale so you can make your own. This is the same issue as the owls or octopi on a chain jewelry. Simple assembly, but who made it?

  5. cynicallyopenminded June 26, 2011 at 6:52 am #

I’m with LDW, I think this is a simple assembly issue. It isn’t uncommon for more than one person to say, “Hey, I can make that” and simply copy a fad from something they have seen a celebrity wearing. How many Carrie necklaces are there on Etsy now?

  6. DOH! June 26, 2011 at 12:36 pm #

Here is the Alibaba link the beaded sideways cross bracelets came from..

  7. KultureSnob June 26, 2011 at 4:06 pm #

More shit for a little shinola.

  8. TheBargainBabe June 27, 2011 at 8:40 am #

Alibaba link didn’t work for me.

Still waiting on Etsy to hire someone to vet the front page treasuries that knows the difference between a vintage item and a handmade item made from vintage fabric (as stated in the description by the seller):

Just seen on the front page. I understand that the typical curator doesn’t care whether the item is actually vintage or not, if the item and its shop are cute.

  10. DOH! June 27, 2011 at 6:16 pm #

I knew this shop looked familiar..

I just found the forum thread where she accidentally “outed” herself as being a reseller!

    This is hilarious..

  11. soapsudalley June 27, 2011 at 11:43 pm #

from customer feedback to sandy the seller: “thank you for your purchased, please visit us again, and leave us feed back”.

Link takes you to a reserved listing for three bracelets (

If you look up the “customer” GatsEnterprises ( he’s a supplier of the crosses “Sandy” uses for her bracelets. Why would he buy bracelets from a buyer that uses his own crosses. Doesn’t make sense.

Conclusion: GatsEnterprises (Carlos Lopez) is also SandysCharmingBeads (Sandra Lopez). Undisclosed accounts.

  12. TheBargainBabe June 28, 2011 at 5:30 am #

Ah, I can see the alibaba link now. And now I’m mad. Some people have some nerve! Just reported one of the bracelets and said this:
“This is a RESELLER. Item is being purchases at alibaba and resold here at an inflated price. This is not a supply, nor is it vintage, and it certainly isn’t handmade. Therefore you are obligated to remove this listing immediately for violating etsy’s TOU.

  13. Life During Wartime June 28, 2011 at 9:25 am #

Soapsudalley, I wonder if Etsy bothers to check for undisclosed multi shops?

  14. TheBargainBabe June 28, 2011 at 11:18 am #

GAH! I bet they are married!! Same last name…

  15. TheBargainBabe June 28, 2011 at 11:20 am #

I’m going to be ballsy and send a convo asking if they are the sandra store too.

  16. TheBargainBabe June 28, 2011 at 11:44 am #

    Here was Gats answers:

Me: Just wondering if you are the same seller as

No sorry I am not. I have sold to her before though, why??????

Oh I see. I think both of you have the same last name and live in the same area, so I wondered. 🙂

Have you ever bought from her?

“Lopez is a very common name, and i have never bought from her but she has bought from me.”

  17. TheBargainBabe June 28, 2011 at 11:58 am #

Whoops, cut off the last part of his reply:
“Have you bought from me before,to know where i live.”

  18. sickofcupcakes June 28, 2011 at 4:09 pm #

Well Sandy and Gat both use the same counter top to take pics here and here

  19. Trista June 28, 2011 at 4:33 pm #

    sickofcupcakes – LOL Nice catch.

Check out the 2nd picture in these listings:

    Sandy –
    Gats –

  20. Trista June 28, 2011 at 4:36 pm #

And the identical Reserved banner. How stupid to even try and pretend you’re a different person.

    Sandy –
    Gats –

  21. Life During Wartime June 28, 2011 at 5:34 pm #

Yeah, why pretend to be two different sellers? It’s okay to have two shops on Etsy, or more. Now….the reseller issue is a different matter.

  22. TheBargainBabe June 28, 2011 at 5:51 pm #

It gets even better, Sandy made a treasury…featuring only herself. To which a couple others smacked it down. 🙂

  23. soapsudalley June 28, 2011 at 5:52 pm #

I think she’s/he’s pretending to be different because of the feedback. The accounts are obviously “buying” from each other to trump up the positive feedback.

  24. soapsudalley June 28, 2011 at 5:59 pm #

    Contact Person: Mr. carlos lopez
    Company Name: GATS ENTERPRISES
Street Address: 916 EL RADO STREEET
    Province/State: Florida
    Country/Region: United States
    Zip: 33134

Although his etsy store doesn’t show his city, this site shows he’s located in Miami (Coral Gables), FL.

  25. TheBargainBabe June 28, 2011 at 6:00 pm #

Well. That was fun. I sent this to Gats:
    rue, Lopez is very common!

Well if you aren’t her, I just noticed you might be getting rip offed from her. 😦

Looks like she’s using your picture from this listing

    On her own store.

AND she’s even using the same “reserved” listing logo.

You said you hadn’t bought from Sandy, but she had a reserved listing with your name on it.

Sorry you’re being ripped off. 😦 That is always so sad to see. I can’t really help you out with it, but I wish you luck.
And then he wrote back this lovely piece:
    GatsEnterprises June 28 2011 9:55pm EDT
My suggetion to you is to mind your own bussines, she hasnt done anything to far as using a picture or reserved listing picture i dont care.

And as per Etsy policy stick to question regarding my shop not someone else.

No one is ripping any one off,and if you continue to bad mouth me or her i will advised her to get legal action againts you and any one that you might be blogging with regarding myself or far as the reserved listing i copy hers, her shop was here before mind.

And now he wants to talk about etsy policy? lol. There is no legal action they could take against me or anyone on this site. Puhleeeze. But since now we know they are reading here, *hi Sandy/Carlos!* Guess you were right, no one is ripping you off since you are now obviously the same person. I’m disappointed that you have chosen to ignore Etsy’s policies about having multiple shops, and furthermore that you are reselling (another no-no), and then were an ass in the last convo to me.

  26. TheBargainBabe June 28, 2011 at 6:05 pm #

And gats has one favorite shop.

I will give you 3 guesses as to whose it is…

  27. soapsudalley June 28, 2011 at 6:22 pm #

    ok, last post, promise.

    here is Sandy’s ebay feedback.

Although all items are private, you can still read the descriptions including printer cartridges and toner.

Odd for a jewelry seller? Not if you’re GatEnterprises. Click on the link previoulsy provided and you will see the description of his business.

    “Company Name: GATS ENTERPRISES
    Business Type: Distributor/Wholesaler

So Gats in also Sandys. It is okay to have more than one account but each account must be disclosed and I would think etsy would frown upon 1 person/2 shops buying from each other to boost feedback scores.

  28. soapsudalley June 28, 2011 at 8:26 pm #

Finally disclosed her other shop in profile: “If you are interested in wholesale items please visit my other shop at: gatsenterprises”

But the obvious shilling is still there. Doh.

  29. Sammy June 28, 2011 at 9:24 pm #

    Wow, nice detective work here.

In other news, it’s too bad that idiots abound.

  30. Puhleeze June 28, 2011 at 11:27 pm #

    What a lying biz-itch

  31. oneangrybird June 29, 2011 at 10:14 am #

vintage chanel bag listed in the finds this morning and when you click on link the first four listings in the search show everything except Chanel!!! Wow – great endorsement for a sucky search Etsy!!!

I am a guest cuz I am on a new computer and can’t remember my passcode and wordpress won’t let me open a new account or give me my info? am I just a moron or is something up?

  32. TootieSkates June 30, 2011 at 3:48 am #

    Vintage my azzzzz.

  33. TheBargainBabe June 30, 2011 at 8:24 am #

So I guess Sandy/Gats was bold faced lying in their first message to me when they flat out denied being 2 shops. Way to be a business owner with morals.

Her stupid sideways bracelet is STILL LISTED even though I sent etsy the alibaba link. WTH?

  34. sickofcupcakes June 30, 2011 at 1:11 pm #

Ya BB, they won’t remove it. Ever.

  35. Life During Wartime June 30, 2011 at 2:14 pm #

The bracelet that’s also on alibaba is so simple to make that it is impossible for Etsy to prove that it isn’t handmade. Same deal as the owls and octopi on chains. As long as the seller claims they assembled it, and you can purchase the components to make it yourself, Etsy really can’t find definite proof the seller isn’t telling the truth.
