UmbrellaLaboratory, oldjunkyardboutique

31 Oct

I found a bunch of sellers on Etsy and on Ebay selling steampunk style inexpensive items, all photographed on a very very similar greenish wood background. The Ebay sellers all say their items are ‘new without tags’, so they are honest resellers. Some of the items in UmbrellaLaboratory use the same background — same source?

Here is another Etsy shop selling similar items to Umbrella — note the greenish wood backgrounds and compare the prices in the two shops.

Okay, let’s compare descriptions for steampunk items shot on the green wood background between UmbrellaLaboratory on Etsy (from Florida):

and an Ebay seller in Rhode Island:

Even though the items are not identical, some of the description text is the same!

I WILL be glad when the “steampunk” trend goes away. I think it’s pretty much gone except for Etsy. It’s old, and it’s sucky.

I found what appears to be an identical listing on Etsy and Ebay, except for the price:
    Etsy seller oldjunkyardboutique:

    Ebay seller from RI:

Is the Ebay seller reselling items from oldjunkyard? If so, why are the green background photos also in UmbrelllaLaboratory? Who is the source, and who is a reseller?

Getting off topic here, but isn’t it against the rules to include a comment in your listing description that you will not sell to another Etsy seller, and mention their name?

LDW- where are you seeing that?

Can you link to the description?

It’s dustylorraine, all time winner of the Nicest Seller on Etsy award.

She didn’t bash the other person, but listing her name I would think is not allowed?

The weirdest case of vintage category misuse I’ve seen so far on Etsy (found on Regretsy today):

The fact that DustyLorraine has any sales confirms to me that customers don’t take the time to read a shop’s policies. Those policies are outrageous !!!!

OMG. I cannot believe this shop is trying to say they hand make these items. The pictures even have Betsey Johnson tags on them. I bet they are not even real Betsey Johnson. Etsy really needs to protect the integrity of their website.

Reported. This seller needs a good reprimand at the very least.

Green man seller (as posted above and featured on Regretsy) is unbelievable, she sells spells and charms and dust, but has a $395 Boyes needle case and some nice Fenton (probably 1970’s reissue) glass in the shop that are truly vintage finds. A big WTF?

CrustyClorine has finally completely lost it! That is amazingly ballsy and over the top rude!

    resellers are really sucky!

take a look at these two shops selling HARD PROTECTION CASE for iPhones! one of them is based in the US but ship from CHINA – etsy still let them do that?? geez!!!

how can one MAKE HARD CASING for phones? they have a factory in their studio? geez!!!

the word HANDMADE on etsy really has to be redefined to suit all these resellers!!!

DustyLorraine is without a doubt, in the top ten list of etsy psychos (organicbeauties took the cake here, but as an etsy seller, it’s dustylorraine) Tthat b is trying to cover her more-than-ample ass because SparrowSalvage had the guts (I applaud anyone who takes one for the team in the name of honesty!!) to recount her experience with her in dl’s feedback. SparrowSalvage was completely in the right, that’s what feedback is for and if dustylorraine psycho bitch is misrepresenting items (SHE IS) and is beyond unpleasant while trying to come to amicable terms (SHE IS) than potential buyers need to know this. I say Go SparrowSalvage!! And I just favorited her shop and hope to buy something from her in support, lol! Yeah, I choose where my money goes. 🙂

*shuddering* thEn, it’s then, not than. I’m anal about some things, lol!

Not anal; conscientious! If more people were conscientious we wouldn’t have to deal with these issues. Thank you Etsy Callout people.

As of 1:45pm this afternoon, DustyLorraine shop brings up the three armed sweater.

Calling out another Etsy member is crossing the line. Wouldn’t it have been easier, not to mention more pleasant all around, if Etsy had just told dustylorraine to remove the listings for the fakes in her shop? And clean up her act in regards to customer service? Because she had some real vintage in her shop. Etsy’s way of handling problems is not well thought out.

    Holy CRAP!
    She’s gone?! WOW!!!
Well now…get ready because that kind of “gal” does not go off into the night silently. She’ll go Sockie- mark my words.

    Hold on to your butts!

  19. Life During Wartime November 1, 2011 at 3:31 pm #

Yes, both of her shops are gone. I think she blew her cool when Etsy contacted her about calling out other Etsians in her listings, and deleted her shops. I doubt Etsy closed them. I think after her shop was called out here, and then reported, she had a coaching session with Etsy. Because she started painting some of her cast iron fauxtiques, but still listing them as vintage. Which sounds like an idea that Etsy admin would come up with…somehow to them painting a new vintage style item makes it old?

  20. WittyBird November 1, 2011 at 5:26 pm #

I agree , I think she lost her temper after Etsy told her she couldn’t call out another seller in her descriptions..but I guess Etsy had no problem with her holding the refunds of unhappy buyers up for ransom.
( as clearly defined in her shop policies ) or had no apparent problem with her calling her buyer Liars and worse or selling faux vintage easily found out with minimal research. It’s easy to see why someone without her own compass got lost along the way.

    Bye Crusty.
