paintedcottages

This shop
sells both brand new and vintage furniture — all given the same “shabby chic” fauxtiqued treatment that includes faked wear and aging.  This item was featured in Get The Look Decor on Nov. 13
the seller has dated the item during the listing process as being from the 1940s, so the attribute says it was handmade by the seller during that during that decade.  Which is impossible!  But Etsy just doesn’t get that fauxtiquing furniture — applying a contemporary finish and adding fake wear — is not a restoration or repair.  The seller should date the item by when they applied the new faux finish to keep these altered pieces from bleeding into vintage searches.  Items recently given fake age marks by the seller should not be dated as vintage.
Taking a look at the rest of the shop, it can be seen that the new furniture they sell, like this item:
is given a similar treatment.  This is what the shop is about:  painting furniture, old or new, to give it their signature look.   I have actually seen unaltered pieces of old cottage painted furniture (original paint) and the look is very different from this!

Looks like fake vintage is popular. I like looking at Vintage on eBay and have seen a lot of things labeled VINTAGE LIKE – I HATE that description…

Its pretty clear etsy is clueless with respect to vintage! Just another shining example.

“This brand new dresser has all the fancy lines of a vintage piece and more!”

So, they made this brand new furniture? Bet it’s made out of plywood. The fools who buy it deserve to be ripped off.

Who buys furniture on the internet?

Bonus points to seller for fitting in the words “paris apartment” into their listings.
