Reseller with 872 sales since April 2011.

is also http://www.lotustraders.net

Which sells through their own website, eBay and Amazon and very clearly says that they have their own factory and a chain of stores called Daya.

http://www.facebook.com/pages/LotusTraders-Clothing has both the Etsy and Ebay shop links.

Which makes it all very charming to read the Etsy profile of how designer Annie Shaffer has a team with her family and some Bali “helpers”. What a heartwarming story. They’ve been coached so very obviously.

Don’t you just love it when entire shops are built on nothing but copyright infringement?

  2. Life During Wartime December 1, 2011 at 5:22 pm #

    Lotus Traders, Mother of Resellers!

I would think it takes many more than ‘a few helpers’ to make garments for wholesale, Ebay, Etsy, and a chain of stores. This is a manufacturer.

  3. EtsyVigilante December 1, 2011 at 7:26 pm #

Here’s “vintage” wire baskets from WdWsDesignTrends that are mass-produced current decor items. Check out all the sets she’s sold http://www.etsy.com/listing/84641532/industrial-galvanized-wire-storage

Links to shop selling same items on Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Industrial-Shabby-Boho-Galvanized-Wire-Baskets-Number-Tags-Set-4-/220881829956?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item336d954044#ht_868wt_768 Store: Pwiseman2010

Not nice to scam people at Christmastime – or any other time.

  4. heather December 1, 2011 at 8:48 pm #

3 shops, her own factory, showroom, a team of “helpers” also selling wholesale, ebay, amazon, and a chain od dyna stores?? and then has time to custom make each item to order??? I love that all this can be handed to etsy admin with a big fancy bow around it, they don’t even have to do the work everyone else has done it for them and they still wont enforce their own rules!!!!! so irritating!!

  5. sickofcupcakes December 2, 2011 at 3:39 am #

We should all open our own Lotus Trader shop!

  6. BOOSHWAH December 2, 2011 at 5:56 am #

Santa has helpers. This shop has employees, and it is so obvious at first glance that it’s full of shit, on purpose.

  7. WhoreForColor December 2, 2011 at 12:12 pm #

How about the featured seller, Doloris Petunia? She has a “team” – don’t tell me that she sits there and inserts all of those stones into those settings herself. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s a manufacturer of all of those pieces that she sells to boutiques…read the copy in her profile. 😦

  8. susan December 2, 2011 at 1:40 pm #

The facebook link above didn’t work, this looks like the correct one:

And I found this one, a fan group http://www.facebook.com/group.php?v=wall&gid=56511183335 which has lots of complaints about eBay purchases.

  9. heather December 2, 2011 at 2:57 pm #

I can’t figure out how to turn something in to you guys but wanted to share this before I am shut down:-) Im sure I will be silenced while the resellers run rampant!!!

hope the link works…I made some really nice handmade treasuries:-)

  10. Life During Wartime December 2, 2011 at 5:10 pm #

Heather, your treasuries are still up. It is pretty much a given that multiple sellers all using the same photos are resellers. For some reason, this is beyond the scope of understanding for Etsy’s integrity staffers.

  11. PussDaddy December 2, 2011 at 5:38 pm #

Sorry to go off topic, but does this wedding seller, the bad feedback, the M.O. of opening another shop with a similar name look familiar to any of you?

  12. BOOSHWAH December 2, 2011 at 9:00 pm #

    Brides are such suckers.

  13. Dee December 2, 2011 at 10:19 pm #

I think the featured seller is taking rhinestone necklaces and painting them? If you look at the settings, they look like they are painted too. Do you agree? Will have to let this go as this is Etsy legal.

  14. Hollie Moore December 3, 2011 at 8:43 am #

I love the treasuries. I commented on all of them. It seems so insulting to real jewelry creators. I think some of the assembled necklaces are creative and do have talent, but these pendants are just nothing and are all resellers. They all mostly have the same picture as well that was obviously taken from the wholesaler. Take care.

Suzi and her farmhouse (imported from Italy) wine crates are back! Now listed as supplies:
Since when is an empty wine crate a crafting supply? I guess the Etsy admins felt bad about her not making sales unless she was reselling.

There is a great opportunity here for mass importers of bushel baskets, berry baskets, and the like, to open Etsy shops and sell their wares by the piece at inflated prices as “craft supplies”.

  16. Life During Wartime December 3, 2011 at 7:15 pm #

OMG, a ‘vintage’ WTF on the Etsy FP:
If it is a ‘reconstructed’ garment from the 1990s, how is it ‘vintage’?

  17. susan December 3, 2011 at 8:03 pm #

Etsy finally shut down HaHaCup, one of the peacock necklace sellers. http://www.etsy.com/shop/haHaCup They opened April 23, 2011 and had 1669 sales before their items were removed. I wonder if they’ve paid their bill to Etsy.

That still leaves ShiningGift, Sevinoma, BeautyandLuck, ArtCity2011 and GelugAccessories who all use the same stock photo to sell their elegant, beautiful peacock necklaces. Heather got all of these sellers in her treasuries, great job!

  18. DonCholodecki December 4, 2011 at 4:34 am #

    Heather, you are my hero!

  19. Maro Morales December 4, 2011 at 4:48 am #

How about a basic tutorial to find resellers in a handmade world???

  20. sickofcupcakes December 4, 2011 at 5:08 am #

I swear the FP right now is a repeat from yesterday. That or at least 1/2 the items were on yesterday.

  21. Life During Wartime December 4, 2011 at 10:53 am #

A glass cloche is now a ‘supply’ according to today’s Get the Hook decor:
And it sold! Way to go, Christine (Etsy admin)!

  22. EtsyVigilante December 4, 2011 at 12:32 pm #

Nice work, everyone! At least a few shutdowns! What about these “vintage” wire baskets that are actually mass-produced. Look at all of the identical sets she’s sold: http://www.etsy.com/shop/WdWsDesignTrends/sold

  23. EtsyVigilante December 4, 2011 at 12:40 pm #

Oops, one more: Suzi’s mass-produced “vintage” chalkboards are back as “handmade” with her “food grade-safe finish and adds a hole in the handle.” Terrain’s are identical and yes, hole in the handle too http://www.shopterrain.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/product.detail/_/chalkboard-message-board/productID/20549136-87a6-411d-b3c9-1e86a02a3c6b/categoryID/1f198616-259a-434c-9f40-382d6c1dc69e

  24. Life During Wartime December 4, 2011 at 12:45 pm #

Good callout, Etsy Vigilante! Looking through all the sold items, I saw a variety of listing violations: reselling ‘vintage style’ stuff and listing it as handmade, altered vintage listed as vintage, fauxtiques listed as vintage. Pillow inserts sold as supplies. Am going to look at current listings now. Yikes!

  25. Life During Wartime December 4, 2011 at 12:52 pm #

Wow, I just shot a fish in a barrel, Etsy Vigilante! Here is the documentation that the wire crates are NOT vintage:
This seller has a second shop where she resells mass produced decor stuff as ‘supplies’ including the wire crates listed as vintage in the shop you called out.

  26. etsyhate December 4, 2011 at 1:01 pm #

Perennial resellers PortugueseVintage were in Get the Look today, too, with their “handpainted” (mass produced) roses hook. Yes, of course it sold.

I love the tags for that one, too. Apparently it both a brass hook and an iron hook. It is also a white hook, despite the fact that it looks like unpainted cast iron to me.

  27. Life During Wartime December 4, 2011 at 1:07 pm #

Here is the set of 4 numbered wire baskets, retail (not vintage!):

  28. FormerEtsyBuyer December 4, 2011 at 5:44 pm #

Yes, Doloris Petunia is painting the stones (with glass paint). The trouble is, it’s a blatant rip-off of the original (very high-end) designer Tom Binns who has been selling this beautiful painted jewelry since 2004. Just google “painted swarovski necklace” and look at images to see the originals, or look at his website.

  29. EtsyVigilante December 4, 2011 at 8:26 pm #

    Good sleuthing, LDW!

  30. Life During Wartime December 4, 2011 at 9:03 pm #

Hi, EV — my other comment is still waiting moderation. The seller has two shops. Check out the other one.

  31. luisamila December 5, 2011 at 5:05 am #

How about http://www.etsy.com/shop/Shininggift whith the cute robot found at http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/302073868/Charming_fashion_jewelry_Robot_compass_watch.html

  32. Sue December 5, 2011 at 6:13 am #

Lotus Traders states on their website that they produce 10,000 pieces per month, importing from Bali and Thailand facilities. How can a factory like that qualify for etsy? Just how many “helpers” do they have?

  33. aleta December 5, 2011 at 7:42 am #

I just reported the wire baskets – found them brand new on Ebay!!

  34. heather December 5, 2011 at 8:42 am #

is there a email to send something direct to you so you can do with it what you like and not hijack another post?

  35. Life During Wartime December 5, 2011 at 10:49 am #

Heather, click the ABOUT link at the top of this page. That will show you the email addy for ECO. The owner does get mail sent to that address. I send in call outs from time to time. Do it!!!

  36. etsyvigilante December 5, 2011 at 8:33 pm #

Now Penny at http://www.etsy.com/shop/WdWsSupply?ref=seller_info has changed the tag on her mass produced wire baskets to “supply”. Wiley one, isn’t she. Also has more mass -produced faux vintage and faux handmade tagged as “supply” http://www.etsy.com/listing/85633061/galvanized-metal-wall-storage-bin

How is a bird candle holder a supply? She’s pathetic. Doesn’t she know what she’s doing to her business reputation? Report away.

  37. heather December 5, 2011 at 8:59 pm #

thank you ……I have time on my hands and this pisses my off so much , even just as a buyer it makes me mad. why have rules if you will only follow some of them and enforce some of them on some people.. I find it halarious that they will stop a thread in the forums about rule breakers faster then you can blink but just look the other way as hundreds of people sell items that are not allowed on the site!! I see quotes all day long about thats not allowed according to the TOU’s its a joke!!! off to send emails:-)

  38. Life During Wartime December 8, 2011 at 1:56 pm #

etsyvigilante, it looks like penny removed the listings for the ‘supply’ wire baskets. But all the mass made ‘supply’ holiday ornaments and decor items are still there. This shop needs its own callout to get Etsy’s attention.

  39. Christine Davison October 29, 2017 at 3:03 pm #

I went to purchase a few dresses from LotusTraders on Etsy, and then asked to cancel before they were shipped, when I found out they were a huge company with a factory in Indonesia. They refused and sent it anyway, keeping my money. I reported them to Etsy as a factory, and wrote about it in the feedback section of the buyers’ comments. Etsy just sent me an e-mail saying they are going to close my account for saying that Lotus Traders is a sweatshop in Asia. I’ve literally spent thousands of dollars on Etsy over the course of a dozen years. The reason I buy from Etsy is to avoid putting money in the hands of these sorts of people, as do a lot of others. Wow.
