Bird Cage Watches

13 Dec
Here are the watches from the manufacturer’s store on Ali Express:
Lots of clear photos of the chains.
Here’s the line-up of resellers listing the bird cage watches on Etsy — many familiar names here from previous callouts.
Champion reseller toofashion2010:
Second photo is great because it shows the huge gap in the metal ring attaching the watch top loop and the chain — the chain can slide right through there and your watch will hit the ground…which is what you deserve if you buy this cheap carp on Etsy.
Has similar photos to those on Ali, same photo shoot but different views.  Proves Ali store could not have stolen the pics from fashionland, cupcakettes!
Here are two resellers who just happened, coincidentally, to embellish the watch with the exact same charm!  How strange, considering the thousands of charms available from jewelry supply manufacturers in China!
and shininggift:
Here’s a watch on its chain, sold as a supply!
Here is a listing for the same watch, with a title that says it is ‘antique bronze’ from handmadeworld88:

I’ve been thinking about the jewelry resellers. Putting aside the bizarre situation that Etsy lets these shops stay open, I’m thinking that the huge amount of instant sales is a rather nice money laundering scheme. Shill listings, shill buyers, nothing actually gets shipped but the funds get integrated into Paypal.

I know that not everyone leaves feedback, but having over 5000 sales and only 800 feedbacks? I call out lots of shilling.

toofashion also has an offsite link on their photos.

More bulk listings of “supply handmade” pendant watches by shop kyeehy in HK to Maria Bewitched Athens, Greece:
And look at the shops feedback- Feedback: 2, 50% pos., getting off to a bad start!

their off site link, stolen photos, mis tagged item, and mass produced wholesale items have been reported every day for a month and ETSY doesn’t care!!!

I had no idea there were this many resellers on Etsy! I knew it was a problem, but this is ridiculous. I feel so sorry for the legitimate artists trying to sell their work. What a shame.

I think the web address on toofashion’s photos redirects to her Etsy shop. Most of the successful resellers on Etsy have stopped selling elsewhere. They don’t need to use other venues now that Etsy has decided to let them stay.

Wow. Never thought of that Susan. I bet Etsy would clean up the resellers if they were charged with accessory to money laundering !!

who wants to open a new shop site with me? selling vintage, supplies, and handmade items. we will never make as much $$$ as ebay, or etsy, but at least we will keep everyone happy. all the sellers from etsy who are ill hearted will join in a heart beat. just dreaming?! OX

I have thought the same things Huffy888… it would have to be as good or better and less political and phony!

But in other news… have any of you seen this site??

I know that I have seen a lot of these things on Etsy… from the Lanterns and flower balls, wooden candle holders and some of these stuffed animals… I get tired discussing jewelry fakes- seems they multiply like prairie dogs.

    and I know I’ve seen this somewhere…

but if this is old news- my apologies, I’m new to the scam :/

Artfire started out with good intentions and ended up allowing resellers. I am not sure a pure site is even possible.

The problem with the Commercial section on AF is getting sellers who aren’t making their own items to use it, instead of Handmade. Sellers get reported to Etsy for commercial items, and move to AF as handmade. Same problem, different venue.

Tara, yes! Save On Crafts has been cited as a reseller source many times by call outs here. Sometimes shops sell their stuff unaltered or unembellished in any way (listed as handmade) using the photos from Save On Crafts.

I place the blame of the purchasers of this crappy jewelry.

  15. huffy888 December 15, 2011 at 11:57 pm #

Dawn; That is it! They must know it’s cheap crap, and they wear it well!

  16. huffy888 December 16, 2011 at 12:16 am #

I was told to not too worry about the resellers and just focus on my shop. They are 100% right. But deep down, I’m still angry at etsy. If I’m selling through etsy, then I’m supporting them too. It’s a double sided sword! The only true winners here are the resellers, and the three headed monster etsy : (

  17. Tara December 16, 2011 at 12:25 am #

Etsy actually told you that?? they are such hypocrits! “thank you for helping us maintain the integrity of Etsy”…. BS

It will come back to them – guarantee that….

so how do you know when you’ve been blacklisted? and what does that term truly mean in the Etsy sense??

  18. huffy888 December 16, 2011 at 10:33 pm #

Tara i was not told by etsy, but 2 other fellow etsyian who told me to post my findings on callin out on etsy. then simply dust my feet and move on. sucks eh! i have contacted etsy numerous of times, and nothing has been done. creeps. but i’m not stopping there. i love this site. i have read a lot of past post, and i’m blown away with all the info. shame on etsy!

  19. huffy888 December 16, 2011 at 10:36 pm #

Tara; you are right! they will have to pay for it some way or another! but it sure feels good ratting on them : ) LOL

  20. Tara December 16, 2011 at 10:39 pm #

I understand completely… it is greed and they package it up in a pretty little word and call it business… but I have heard a lot of people say that stand up to Etsy that they have been blacklisted…. from Front Page, certain teams (not sure how they would know – but) so is this true and how do you know?

  21. Tara December 16, 2011 at 10:41 pm #

🙂 but Etsy doesn’t care… we are the ones they hurt. I can’t compete with wholesale garbage they buy for a quarter or less… Etsy is ripping us too- not just the resellers. If Etsy didn’t allow it the resellers wouldn’t be a problem and we would have nothing to complain about… okay maybe we could still find something…. Its Etsy that needs to be called the fraud- they let these companies knowingly deceive the buyers too.

  22. huffy888 December 18, 2011 at 12:31 am #

Tara; I will never sell as much as the resellers, nor do I have the capacity to do so. I wonder about this one particular seller who claims she handmade her purses out of love. No mention of staff help, or team. She sold thousands of purses in a very short time frame. Without a doubt she is not the one who is sewing the purses. I’m sure other people can figure out that she is BS. But they buy her stuff anyway. I just hope the people who are sewing the purses are getting paid fairly. It’s a funny world out there!
