Enough With The Peacocks

7 Jan

Someone went TNT and sent this our way:

I was getting so pissed off at the blatant resellers I sent this list I made to the CEO of Etsy:

I would like you take take at look at this listing: Alibaba: http://www.aliexpress.com/product-fm/502827166-A0007-Antiqued-Prancing-Peacock-...

Now look at these listings all from different shops on Etsy:

    Oi.Vey.

  2. Etsy Vigilante January 7, 2012 at 9:26 am #

Reported all. All from China except one new seller from Phoenix. Blatant liars.

Fauxtique on the FP right now:
    http://www.etsy.com/listing/88135329/vintage-large-antique-white-oval-ornate?ref=fp_treasury_6

Not vintage. A vintage item has been repainted and given fake age wear — this is a huge clue, Etsy, that something has been significantly altered. Real wear = vintage. Fake wear = hand altered, and new.

Sounds like someone needs to make a pin the Etsy reseller board on Pinterest.

    http://www.etsy.com/shop/SuperiorInteriors101

This entire shop is fauxtique crap. I’ve reported, but of course Etsy doesn’t care that this stuff is in the wrong category.

  6. brickwall January 7, 2012 at 1:23 pm #

    How obvious is that!!!
LDW, I like that idea of an Etsy reseller board on Pinterest.

    BTW, what does TNT mean?

  7. Life During Wartime January 7, 2012 at 1:29 pm #

    Like this item:
    http://www.etsy.com/listing/81719079/sweet-plum-purple-upcycled-and-refurbish
is not a birdcage! It is a newish decor item never meant to house a bird! Ditto for the other birdcage shaped decor pieces in the shop. They are legit as altered commercial items listed in a handmade category, but there is nothing vintage about them.

    TNT Is

So angry, you are ready to explode, I think.

Here’s a fauxtique that was featured on Regretsty!
    http://www.etsy.com/listing/82455604/set-of-large-lampshades
Clearly says in the description that it is handmade by the seller, but listed as a vintage item.

  10. brickwall January 7, 2012 at 4:11 pm #

Thanks LDW, I thought it was an acronym!
I’m saving up to buy those lampshades!

The shop SuperiorInteriors101 has been open for 4 months and the purple “bird cage” has been in 83 treasuries! I’m so sick of the favoritism within the teams especially in FP treasuries, they all support each other over and over again. Also commenting numerous times on your own treasuries in which you’ve included your own item, and commenting from your other shops (same girl in knit hat, same name). I’m sick to death of NEVER were retro to begin with owls and peacocks, legs bookmarks, embroidery hoop wall decor and felted acorns. It seems every treasury must consist of at least 3 of these items. Favoritism galore. With 11 and a half MILLION items to choose from I see the same 50 things over and over again.

Talk about copyright infringement! shelleym2011 http://www.etsy.com/shop/shelleym2011?ref=seller_info pimps every pop-culture celebrity, movie and institution you can think of! Including J Lo, Beiber and NASCAR http://www.etsy.com/listing/89967095/set-of-4-nascar-binder-clip-photo
    Ad Naseam.

    And again on the FP:

    This one is an “antique”.

  14. GRRRRR January 7, 2012 at 8:34 pm #

OMG that is the best idea ever, the etsy reseller board on Pinterest…….

  15. Sandra January 8, 2012 at 6:46 am #

Can you get “in trouble” with Etsy for making sarcastic treasuries??? I’m so tempted…

  16. cynicallyopenminded January 8, 2012 at 7:29 am #

Sandra, with Etsy anything is possible. I know that quite a few people have done it, including a frequent poster here. They don’t have much clout over what gets posted at Pinterest….

  17. cynicallyopenminded January 8, 2012 at 7:33 am #

I noticed that http://www.etsy.com/shop/ArtCity2011?ref=seller_info one of the sellers from the OP has had 900 + sales, but only 96 for feedback, of which she left 2. Her overall percentage is 97% positive. Shilling?

  18. huffy888 January 8, 2012 at 9:49 am #

recently I reported a shop, and someone included an item from my shop with the same shop I reported : ) So I took a quick sneak look to see how many crap items she sold since Nov. wowzers, 200 items! of course the item i reported didn’t get removed. it was sold, and she has the same ring listed up for sale again. very impressive. i had to cancel an item because the buyer didn’t pay. i got a email from etsy, they said i was cancelling the item to avoid sellers fees of $3 and some change. imagine that! now they just contacted, harassing me about one of my items. this made me sooooo mad i told them i’m was aware of the resellers from China, and the integrity they seem to claim they have. how dare they harass the little guys doing their job right! very pissed off! etsy should just join forces with ebay! maybe etsy is ebay?

  19. huffy888 January 8, 2012 at 9:55 am #

    everywhere you look resellers!

    http://www.etsy.com/listing/75557755/black-formal-dress-ruffle-tube-one

shame on ebay, i mean etsy!

  20. TrickyWording January 8, 2012 at 4:31 pm #

^^^ What a cary photo– looks like anorexia a la Chinoise.

  21. TrickyWording January 8, 2012 at 4:34 pm #

    I meant Scary!

  22. heather January 8, 2012 at 8:20 pm #

yes on the sarcastic treasurie….I used to have 11 treasuries each one featured 1 item all from different sellers and really cute play on words type titles….it lasted quite awile but I told people about it and it was removed and I got a nasty letter from etsy…quickly deleted it because I could give a rats ass if they don’t like my humor when I have to see daily a reseller featured somewhere and we are not talking about it might be I mean BLATANT!!! I figure if Im shut down for speaking the absolute truth then just like resellers I will just open another account, and another and another and when I run out of IP addresses (i have 6) then I will just scramble and reset them all…….loves having a software specialist in da house!!!

I actually emailed admins integrity team leader a huge email with every reseller I knew of 38 at the time and gave all the links and proof I could come up with (it was 3 pages in word) and all I got back was the canned response “we take this seriously” b.s. when they start enforcing their rules I will eat shit and shut up but its soooo soooo ridiculous!!!

  23. heather January 8, 2012 at 8:33 pm #

the pinterest idea is fabulous……I am going to make about 40!!! Etsy has no say whatsoever over what is pinned, the only problem I see is 3 days ago etsy added a pin it button to their site and then pinterest exploded with self promotion idiots pinning board after board of their own items, clogging all the actual true results up with stuff I can find on my own ( treasuries anybody??)……off to start my minning fest:-)

  24. Etsy Vigilante January 9, 2012 at 5:29 am #

The thing about an Etsy reseller Pinterest board is that it will give the dishonest sellers exposure.

  25. Sandra January 9, 2012 at 5:35 am #

This peacock thing really IS insane! Here’s a Treasury: 16 different sellers offering the identical necklace, available from alibaba for $.29-$.99 per piece http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/486199306/2011_fashion_peacock_feather_necklace.html

    China and Hong Kong sellers:
    http://www.etsy.com/shop/HaHaCup for $2.99 in Handmade
http://www.etsy.com/shop/GeluguAccessories for $5.95 in Handmade (seller location is China but item listing says ships from United States)
    http://www.etsy.com/shop/gaobzm81122 for $3.99 in Handmade
    http://www.etsy.com/shop/tonightstar for $2.99 in Handmade
    http://www.etsy.com/shop/fenasd99321 for $3.99 in Handmade
    http://www.etsy.com/shop/ZTBoutiques for $2.99 in Handmade
http://www.etsy.com/shop/repsxc for $1.98, listed in Handmade Jewelry but About This Item states “Handmade Supply”
http://www.etsy.com/shop/pieunc for $1.99, with the same scenario as repsxc’s listing above…hmm.
    http://www.etsy.com/shop/ijewel0 for $2.50 in Handmade

    U.S. sellers:
    http://www.etsy.com/shop/madisonlexi for $20.00 in Handmade
    http://www.etsy.com/shop/Moonrainjewelry for $18.00 in Handmade
http://www.etsy.com/shop/TheMagpiesRitual for $14.00 in Supplies (but says the chain comes with it…um, that’s a necklace)
    http://www.etsy.com/shop/sharonna for $12.00 in Handmade
    http://www.etsy.com/shop/diana2002 for $6.99 in Handmade

Oops, the 16th seller seems to be gone now. It was http://www.etsy.com/shop/woeirn

I linked to the sellers instead of the item so you could see their names.

  26. Life During Wartime January 9, 2012 at 10:32 am #

Etsy Vigilante, these sellers already have exposure from being on Etsy, and from being featured in HANDMADE fashions blogs! All the power resellers, like toofashion2010, get featured all the time. They also get links from being called out here, by that way of thinking. You just have to title and describe your pinboard with a brief but obvious explanation of what you are trying to show. That will show up in Google links to your board.

  27. Etsy Vigilante January 9, 2012 at 10:38 am #

    Go for it!!

  28. brickwall January 9, 2012 at 11:49 am #

At least having all the same photo of one item from all the different sellers will show up the fact that this particular item is NOT handmade by the seller and that just because it’s listed on Etsy doesn’t make it so.

It really would be great to educate buyers about this sort of thing though I suspect that the ones that buy this stuff really don’t care!

  29. Heather January 10, 2012 at 1:33 am #

I have that exact same mirror!!! It is green ( the original color) and I got it at Walmart years ago!
