I know http://portuguesevintage.etsy.com has been called out before, but the bottle openers from AllCountryPretties led me back to PV.

Victorian brass business card holder listed in Vintage http://www.etsy.com/listing/89697247/business-victorian-style-brass-card

Couldn’t find a supplier, but here are 3 others from around the ‘net:

PV is the same kind of fauxtique reseller shop as DustyLorraine. No matter how many documentated examples of fake vintage sold multiple times, Etsy gives these shops a pass. Dusty was closed only because she called out another Etsyian in a listing. Otherwise, she would be reselling on Etsy today. As long as resellers have a loyal customer base and have some shelter listings to support the deception that their items are vintage or handmade, Etsy leaves them alone.

Great callout, though, and good documentation.

PV calls herself out! I am gong to compare PV’s listings for the same item on multiple venues. For the venues that allow reselling, she lists the item as new, but on Etsy as vintage (used attribute).

Sunflower frames on Ecrater — listed as new:
Sunflower frames on Etsy, same photos — listed as vintage:

Obviously she purchased boxes of these since she is selling them on 3-4 venues, in two different finishes.

More self call outs. Ecrater NEW iron fleur de liz(sic) hook described as vintage but not painted:
Same item on Etsy, listed as Handmade by PV described as painted and vintage:

Brass figurine self callout…is it from the 70s or is it brand new?
On Ecrater, The Two Little Pigs brass figures are described as BRAND NEW:
On Etsy, the same item with same photos is Vintage 1970s:

PV brass owl bottle opener, new or from the 1980s?

    On Ecrater it’s brand new:
On Etsy it’s 1980s vintage, same photos, same item:

Just a note — for her items that are actually vintage, PV does list them that way on Ecrater. So the difference between new and used attributes on Ecrater and on Etsy is not an issue with how to list the items properly on Ecrater. Now, let’s look at PVs vast stash of faux vintage jewelry:

Ecrater English Pin — is this a chicken’s foot? Anyway, brand new:
On Etsy, same item, listed as 1980s vintage:

LOL The shop reselling that gold sequin party dress joined two teams, and the team captains never looked at her shop?
    No profile info, no policies.

The thread started by RunawayRiches was shut down yet the next day the shop remains.

  18. Etsy Vigilante January 17, 2012 at 6:32 am #

Great research, LDW! Yet portuguesevintage and all her faux vintage remains. I feel badly for the customers that think they’re getting genuine vintage items. This appears to constitute fraud on the part of PV and because Etsy knows about it via numerous flags doesn’t say much for their integrity.

  19. Life During Wartime January 17, 2012 at 10:09 am #

I think Etsy is taken in by PV’s jewelry because A.R. Brown started the company that makes his pewter pins in the 1980s, according to his website. So older pins made by the company would be vintage.

I would find it convincing that PV is an expert collector and retailer of the pins…except that she doesn’t even mention in any of her listings the name of the artist, which is on every piece!

I suspect that the pins in PV’s shop are newer than 1992. Simply because she is reselling so many other items (like the one called out in the post) as vintage victorian or whatever, when they are obviously new.

I am going to keep documenting PVs faux vintage listings.

How do you spell Titanic? PV spells it HMS Victory. Listing violation number one:
Supposedly a vintage item from the 1970s, she is selling the same item on Ecrater as brand new:
For sale from another online seller:
Not Titianic related, not vintage, not allowed for sale on Etsy.

  25. Christa January 26, 2012 at 9:35 pm #

Bonanza ISN’T a wholesale/retail site!! it’s people (like sellers on Etsy) selling REAL vintage items as well as mix of new items. It’s a marketplace. LOL
And that card holder looks legit to me.

  26. Life During Wartime January 28, 2012 at 11:58 am #

Christa, Bonanza is a venue with different rules than Etsy. The card holder is legit for Bonanza — a new, faux vintage, item. Not allowed on Etsy. Link to the item now gets the oopsie knitter.
