The items are gone! I still want to know why no one running the teams she joined reported her to Etsy as a reseller? I wonder how many of her teamies told RunwayRiches she had a cute shop?

  2. cynicallyopenminded January 17, 2012 at 10:54 am #

The shop isn’t showing up in the search either.

OMG, where’s Courtney Love when you need her? This junk looks like a 5 year old went through grandma’s crap jewelry box and hot glued it together where it landed! 800 bucks?? get a grip.

    Regretsy fodder.

I almost used an item from Seastyle in a treasury – until I saw this via Alibaba Then I noticed most of the items at Seastyle are not vintage or handmade at all.

    Nip it in the bud….

Good one, Don. shopdashingdaisy calls herself out in her Ebay listings, like this one for a PVC clutch bag:
Brand is listed as ‘imported’. None of that deceptive language about handmaking items she wrote for her Etsy shop.

Etsy should have been on to this one as soon as she published the first listing in a handmade category with a designer’s name in the title. All shops using famous maker brand names in handmade listing titles or tags should be put on a review list and closed if they are resellers. Like this shop. 4 sales in less than one week?

  10. Life During Wartime January 18, 2012 at 12:29 pm #

More spray painted ‘vintage’ on he FP:

  11. Life During Wartime January 18, 2012 at 1:13 pm #

Calling out Etsy treasury making aesthetics.

The thumbnail for this item doesn’t even show the thing being sold:

The item looks like it was chosen because the colors in the tags match the treasury color scheme. The scarf being sold is shown in the other photos as very wrinkled, with visible stains. The seller took care to mention a chain retailer and her team in the tags, but says nothing about the item’s condition.

New seller with a bunch of listing violations gets a warm welcome from Etsy admin, and compliments on her shop:

  13. Etsy Vigilante January 18, 2012 at 6:11 pm #

More painted-mass-production (PMP?) on the front page. Too bad because I like her “handmade” stuff which, normally I wouldn’t question. But she’s calling the Crown Iron Hook handmade so you’ve got to wonder. Also, check out that title!

  14. Life During Wartime January 18, 2012 at 7:14 pm #

That is the same crown hook that PortugueseVintage sells, and that red color isn’t the way the manufacturer sells it. So, yes, it is handmade because the seller altered it. The ones PV sells are not altered.

    More FP vintage funnies:

The seller never shows the whole surface of the tray without a prop on it or in front of it.
Seller claims the item is silverplated, but is it? No marks are mentioned. Maybe it’s chrome plated? Not the same thing. Oh, and the color of the tray is misrepresented in the photo, seller says, because it is picking up color from the prop! The item is tagged ‘white’ ‘winter’ and ‘gold’…WTF? Silverplate is none of these things!

Shoppers do not know condition, materials or color. But the listing is totally Etsy style, so it rates the FP.

  18. Kick The Can January 19, 2012 at 8:03 pm #

Pox, that michaelandzoe shop is something. That jeans listing says nothing about size. Are the ones being sold the ones in the pic? Or do they custom-make them for you (snicker)? Bizarre.

  19. DonCholodecki January 20, 2012 at 5:45 am #

    Another shop o’ crap:

  20. Sandra January 20, 2012 at 7:56 am #

    OMG, on this bracelet

she doesn’t even bother to remove the watermark from the Chinese ebay seller where they sell for 3 bucks (her price $15.00).

  21. Antoinette January 20, 2012 at 10:36 am #

Thanks for the love for michal + zoe chicka. I head the etsy shop and can answer your questions. We love photoshoots so when we have a chance to travel we go on location. The palms you see in the pic with the jeans was taken in LA where one of our designers calls her second home. Those jeans come custom, so thank you for letting me know that was not clear.

michalandzoe reseller called out by Pox, are getting ready to launch!

  23. Life During Wartime January 20, 2012 at 11:10 am #

Yup, theresaandyasser is a reseller! They are on my list of jewelry resellers.

Ring in the Etsy shop, listed as handmade:
Note watermark on photo, which leads to Ebay seller lisa-beads:
who sells from Hong Kong. Same item, same watermark. Another Etsy reseller shipping HK imports from the USA and listing as handmade.

  24. Life During Wartime January 20, 2012 at 11:13 am #

Here’s another listing in theresaandyasser with a watermark, this time it’s 9-jewelry:
Here’s the seller 9-jewelry on Ebay. The same exact necklace isn’t listed, but you can see this is the source of the photo:
    9-jewelry also ships from HK.

  25. Life During Wartime January 20, 2012 at 1:15 pm #

    Reseller on the front page!
A rug from New Zealand being sold by a shop in California, listed as handmade. They say many sizes of rugs are ‘obtainable’ by them. Is that handmade? Etsy, you gave this reseller a FP slot?

  26. Life During Wartime January 20, 2012 at 1:45 pm #

Reseller rug is gone from the FP and removed from the treasury.

The black african soap says it is *** This freshly imported black soap from Ghana is 100% natural, pure and organic.

    The african Drums

*Handmade by local artisans in villages of Mali, Senegal, Gambia, Madagascar, Ghana and

and also listed as handmade by seller. yet ships from US

  30. Lisa Salsbury January 21, 2012 at 6:12 am #

I am you all already noticed, but that theresaandyasser shop listed by Don has watermarks of other businesses on many of their pictures. I didn’t google the names so I don’t know where they are from, but it doesn’t matter. Just more proof that they aren’t reputable.

  31. sickofcupcakes January 21, 2012 at 8:16 am #

On the FP, how long has that co. been in business?

  32. susan January 21, 2012 at 8:19 am #

michaelandzoe does not accept Paypal at this time. My first thought is because they have outstanding issues with Paypal.

Why is this shop still open? The jeans are gone, but the dress is still there and I haven’t started on the jewelry yet.

  33. Life During Wartime January 21, 2012 at 10:45 am #

Lisa, a bunch of comments showing the sources for the watermarked items sold by theresaandyasser are still waiting for moderation from Friday.

  34. susan January 21, 2012 at 2:22 pm #

    The dress is gone

The scarves are from and the photos lifted directly from their site.

  35. susan January 21, 2012 at 5:27 pm #

I’m doing this in bits and pieces since I’m doing a project and have to wait for paint to dry in stages.

michal + zoe is Antoinette Francis aspiring model and singer.

I tried to look to see if her jewelry came from Stella + Dot but I don’t have the patience. She seems to misunderstand that Etsy is HANDMADE .

    Moving on…

  36. Antoinette January 22, 2012 at 10:31 am #

    Hi Susan,
Thanks for the mention?! Yes, all my stuff are homemade. I wholesale my stuff also (thanks for asking). I also sell for stella & dot but all my jewelry are my own no stella’s. The metallic blue dress is gone (as well as a few other items including those jeans) because seasons are changing and I sell by seasons (not by what I have in stock).

I don’t use paypal because a few years back I tried buying boots on ebay and ended up losing my money, even after disputing. After then, I don’t trust them. If buyers want to pay via card, they can do so using other methods. I invoice and offer and Google Checkout (another reliable payment gateway.)

My site is getting ready to launch in Feb. with my homemade stuff as well as other designer’s stuff (manufactured). I do not sell other designer’s items on my etsy unless they work under michalandzoe. Get your facts straight please before you start labeling ppl as “not homemade”.

  37. Sandra January 22, 2012 at 10:59 am #

    {coffee spit-take} Hi Antoinette!

You removed the jeans and one dress, but ya still got some work to do. As reader Susan pointed out, you’ve lifted your scarves and their photos from here

Everything else is handmade by you? Those scarves? The other clothing? The sunglasses? Yeah, right.

See, you have enthusiasm, but you don’t seem to understand what Etsy is. Best to close up shop there and pursue your myriad other endeavors. By now you’ve been reported a bunch of times, so if you don’t close it will probably be done for you.

  38. Life During Wartime January 22, 2012 at 12:15 pm #

Hi, Antoinette! I’m sure you have a perfectly logical explanation — since all your stuff is handmade by you, right? — for why this photo from aristocracie is being used in your shop?

If you can handmake jewelry, dresses, jeans, scarves, and all that, I am sure you can take your own photos instead of copying and pasting from online webstores? Or are you claiming that aristocracie is selling your handmade line of scarves?

  39. Susan January 22, 2012 at 2:21 pm #

So you don’t mind posting photos of how you handmade those sunglasses you sold?

  40. Susan January 22, 2012 at 9:34 pm #

The sold sunglasses are now relisted as vintage. Odd, they were an accessory before just like all the omes on Amazon. New clothing listed with head-cut-off photos. Seller admits in her ECO post that other people make the items in her shop. Shop description also violates TOU. Seller belongs on eBay not Etsy.

  41. unexpectedtreasure January 22, 2012 at 11:58 pm #

Is now up to 12 sales in less than two weeks!!!

  43. Antoinette January 23, 2012 at 4:33 pm #

I don’t copy and paste photos from other shops. We wholesale and provide photographs to resellers for them to use or not use.

That was a listing error which was corrected when relisted and if you weren’t aware, Etsy allows a shop to have multiple designers under the same shop. New photos weren’t on location and were done in a studio; of course the heads will be cut off. And don’t worry hun. Etsy has already investigated my shop and we’ve passed with flying colors. I will stop arguing now since it really isn’t going anywhere. Good luck with all future endeavors. #signingoff

  44. susan January 24, 2012 at 6:27 am # calling herself Mikala.

    I’ve taken screenshots.

  45. susan January 24, 2012 at 6:38 am #

heather, that is team tagging at it’s ugly finest. will let you look up the team names and rules. All those teams listed are juried, and looks like they allow multiple team tags. But it looks desperate.

Sounds like a 22 year old college student who got caught cheating on her senior year project.

This is about the integrity of Etsy. We are absolutely aware of the TOU of Etsy. Despite what you think we care very much about Etsy and try to keep it true to handmade. Your shop is a fail on so many levels, from lack of descriptions, to non-disclosure, to running several shops, to re-inventing yourself on a daily basis. In none of this is the essence of an artisan. A stylist fashionista is not an artisan.

If you’re trying to position your reseller activities as a collective, it is necessary to declare all the participants in the collective. You’re not doing this. Even the most outrageous resellers have this information, as much as we believe that their auntie just “helps”.

You have no information on clothing construction, measurements, materials that would be necessary to be able to label your garments, at the very least. This sort of lack of information absolutely screams reseller.

So how exactly did Etsy vet this “handmade” bangle, which is nothing but 11 bangles in a row?
If simply lining up cheap jewelry next to each other constitutes handmade, then the Chinese sellers are going to have a field day. I won’t go into jewelry, it’s not my field but there are some passionate defenders of original jewelry that read this blog.

Most of the clothing designers are happy to provide links to their workrooms show that they participated in the majority of the clothing construction. Even if it is your Auntie (lol). From your considerable presence on social media, it seems like you go to school and twitter and reblog other peoples work.

This blog ranks quite high in Google results on searches so perhaps consider how you respond to queries and criticism in public places, because your responses

Antoinette says, “Etsy has already investigated my shop and we’ve passed with flying colors.”

What do ECO readers make of that?

One might ask why she quickly opened that 2nd shop and listed one see-thru dress adamently described as made by her. Oops, that dress is gone now.

  48. susan January 30, 2012 at 10:12 am #

Michelandzoe is on vacation, shop owner has apparently donated the old line to charity. Her other non disclosed shop that was called ValleyChiconEtsy is now which was inspired by Pretty Little Liars! Either she doesn’t see they irony in a liar naming her shop that way, or she’s just effing with everyone. It’s entertaining enough to add it to my list of wtf shops.

  49. Antoinette February 3, 2012 at 11:14 am #

“You have no information on clothing construction, measurements, materials that would be necessary to be able to label your garments, at the very least. This sort of lack of information absolutely screams reseller.” <<< The reason for the relaunch.

All that information will be posted when we relaunch in a few weeks. Being new to Etsy has its downfalls, like not knowing that all that information had to be provided. Had I known before, I would have posted them along with the listing. I deleted my listings and am starting anew with new items (maybe with a few old items too) so that I can reorganize and add all this information to each and every listing. The reasoning for the vacation was because I had left my home to go on vacation to Pittsburgh for a week but I am back now. My second shop is that of my own with no help from anyone else and is inspired by Pretty Little Liars (a popular show on ABC Family and also my favorite show; not irony).

I understand this blog is to protect true Etsy seller, which is what I am, but I am saddened to see how you continue to belittle my shops just because you suspect that I am not legit. I am a fashionista and consider myself a stylist (I know what looks good with what) and I also am a designer who knows how to make fashion. I am appalled that you continue to question my work and my co-workers' works. I completely support Etsy and all their real sellers. I design for fun. It's my hobby and has always been my hobby since I was designing dresses for my Barbie's. Unlike most college students, I spend most of my nights studying and crafting.

You rip apart me, my work and my coworkers' work and expect me to continue using the same marketing technique. That's not how I run my business (PR is something I learn in school). I would appreciate it if you would stop your negative comments for the time being and wait until the relaunch. Your questions about our listings will be answered in detail. After then, you can rip me or us apart as long as you want, report all my listings and fail at closing me down yet again. #harshtruth
