This seller is calling out other Etsy shops by name in her announcement.

  2. Life During Wartime March 15, 2012 at 11:15 am #

All the shops called out for ‘copying’ her are gone.

What language is the sign the mannequin is holding? That could be a key to the origin of the clothing.

    Darn, forgot the link:

I reported the pig. TY! What a set of BALLS claiming others are copying her! Too many sociopaths on Etsy for me…

  6. Stacey March 15, 2012 at 1:47 pm #

LDW, The sign looks like it says “AIKEN” to me, and has been spray painted/badly edited out. I googled, but didn’t find anything.

****IMPORTANT NOTICE******* updated October 21, 2011

There are now FOUR Etsy shops that have stolen and are selling my most popular item, the Jet Black Leather Coat X018. They are even using the exact same pictures and description. Here’s the current list of copycat shops:

    • ladycoat
    • creating1979
    • wintercloth
    • sizecustom

Please be aware that my shop JulyS is the genuine shop for this item.
The latest news about this is that someone contacted me saying she bought the jet black coat from one of these other shops. She learned that they were stealing designs so she tried to cancel her order. They never replied to her and she has not gotten her money back.

    TACKY TACKY TACKY.

  8. Life During Wartime March 15, 2012 at 2:31 pm #

This is the item the other shops were supposedly selling
    http://www.etsy.com/transaction/75632452

Creating1979 was selling it for US $15!

The coat is manmade materials, but look at the title:
Jet black leather coat X018 / black jacket / faux winter coat warm jacket /shoulder pad deer skin/ zip coat/ fur collar

The words ‘faux’ and ‘leather’ or ‘deer skin’ or ‘fur’ are nowhere near each other. From that title, the faux could be anything.

    Turdriffic!

I’ve reported JulyS for almost a year now but they’re still there. I firmly believe product is made overseas (note the feedback about the delivery times) and then shipped in bulk to the US to be shipped to customers.

AIKEN is a chinese jeans brand, I think JulyS has slipped up in “copying” that photo.

  11. sickofcupcakes March 15, 2012 at 7:11 pm #

LDW, that’s a human in the pic, not a mannequin. It scared me the way her face is blurred out, lol.

  12. sickofcupcakes March 15, 2012 at 7:12 pm #

Oh, I wrote a scathing report to etsy last night. I’d had a horrible day and came home to see that I’ve had 4 views all day. Meanwhile the same exact crap in on the FP hour after hour. I will probably never get another view. My items will be on the last page of the relevancy sort, lol.

  13. It Would Be My Pleather March 16, 2012 at 6:38 am #

Funny, JulyS has a Leather category, and the profile reads, “K is a leather artiste who’s [sic] interests include everything leather and makes all of the leather portions of our shop.”

Yet there is no actual leather in the shop…

  14. Kick The Can March 16, 2012 at 10:06 am #

That last link to a sold jacket is interesting. I clicked on it and it said, “This item sold on January 14, 2012” then underneath it said, “This listing is no longer viewable.”

Etsy has gone in and changed sold transactions so they didn’t reflect the fact that the item was resold (I remember actual cases from a couple of years ago… long story) and this looks like one of those cases. Yet the shop continues to sell. Disgusting.

  15. Life During Wartime March 16, 2012 at 10:14 am #

The shop sections show the same kind of confusion. There is a Leather Coat section that includes 1 wool blend fabric coat, and 3 faux leather jackets. No leather — or even faux leather — coats there. Then there is a Wool Coat – Jacket section that includes one of the faux leather jackets, titled as a ‘leather coat’.

There is no real leather in this shop. And a jacket and a coat are not the same garment. Why does a clothing designer not know this?

I am wondering if the model with the blurred out face (the one I saw as a mannequin LOL) is one of the better known Asian catalog models?

  16. Life During Wartime March 16, 2012 at 10:26 am #

Kick The Can, I saw that consored listing yesterday. If JulyS is the designer and maker of the item, why the need to hide the photo? Was it a catalog shot from Asia?

  17. Kick The Can March 16, 2012 at 12:27 pm #

    Probably!

  18. Loveland March 16, 2012 at 4:36 pm #

Sometimes..really you just have to wonder.

You are “saving the soul” of someone ,( something ) – who really…hates you for it.
    Etsy hates you for it.

Etsy does not want to know-
Etsy does not care when they do-know.
    This isn’t a Charity,
this isn’t a group effort – this is Big Business.
What are you protecting? An idea? Your idea of what Etsy is?
FYI – in caring you are the last of your breed. ETSY does not CARE. Do what is best for your business-do what is best for you- and stop protecting Etsy from itself. In the end- Etsy just hates you for it.

  19. Life During Wartime March 17, 2012 at 10:53 am #

Loveland, I agree that Etsy does not care about resellers if the resellers help push the Etsy brand and put bucks in Etsy’s virtual cash register. People who are thinking of opening a shop or buying something on Etsy need a reminder that Etsy is not protecting them from factory goods being sold as handmade or fake vintage or misleasing supplies descriptions (sterling silver plated), I don’t want to try and save any ‘souls’. I just think the info should be out there.

  20. TheGammaRay March 17, 2012 at 7:21 pm #

Not to mention this shop claims they ship from the USA, but feedback has stated that packages came from China. (saw that quite a while back when poking around their feedback)
I don’t know why Etsy can’t figure out a way to make the “ships from” and “location” default to the country in which the internet connection is from.

You can get a hit counter for your website that tells you what city, state/country visitors are from – so why can’t Etsy figure out how to make that info work on their site?

They way they have it set up – you can pick any damn location you want and they don’t give a crap where you are actually located.

  21. Life During Wartime March 18, 2012 at 2:43 pm #

The person running the JulyS shop on Etsy does not appear to know the difference between a coat and a jacket. They do not know the names of colors in English. They do not know that Hawaii is not part of the continental US. Seller seems contused about the difference between real leather and fake, or is wiriting listings to be deceptive. For a shop whose name includes the word ‘custom’ there seems to be some sizing problems. Some of the photos show garments with fold creases in them from packaging. Overall, this looks to me like an inexpensive line for the Korean market, made in China and shipped to the shop owner in the USA.

this shop cracks me up http://www.etsy.com/shop/AquaShop324
mermaid tweezers as a supply? hello kitty with the year 2000 on it? seriously?

  23. Yellshe March 18, 2012 at 4:21 pm #

I also just noticed the shop above lists her jewelry as a supply… way to go Etsy!

  24. TheBargainBabe March 18, 2012 at 4:46 pm #

Reported JulyS. And had some unfriendly words directed at etsy in the process. Clearly they just let offenders stay open as long as the offender brings in money for them.

  25. Pam Gari March 18, 2012 at 6:46 pm #

Loveland what you say is true. It was the ultimate bait and switch that Etsy pulled on us. I think that they had ALWAYS intended to slide in this back door to try and wipe Greedbay off the internet. And as I have said many many times… to Etsy, we are just FOOD.
    Personally I’m abandoning Etsy and opening a Zahoomi shop as well as using Facebook to sell my wares. Etsy, sorry to say, reminds me of a clique of high school bitches that have claimed the 2nd floor girls room as their “clubhouse” and hang out together kissing each others asses, and dreaming up ways to make the outsider girls miserable. I think we waste too much energy letting them know that it bothers us. If we were to do as they did … we might find that collectively we can beat them. { As if we were a bunch of Goth Chicks that just push into the 2nd floor girls room, splatter them with stage blood and leave, laughing at the silly preps.}

  26. Life During Wartime March 18, 2012 at 7:58 pm #

Okay, I am not a hipster. Mermaid tweezers? Why? What? I googled them and it looks like China has made millions of these things. I do not understand…

  27. Pam Gari March 18, 2012 at 8:25 pm #

And scissors to match! It’s the whole Kawaii cutesy thing that’s spreading faster than the bird flu out of China my friend. I think it’s how you can spot a whore straight away a whore will sell anything that people will buy. They KNOW that they will be caught and shut down, but it’s a fast and dirty business to them. WE get offended because it’s NOT a fast and dirty business to us AND because that kind of behavior does nothing but CHEAPEN everything near it.

  28. Life During Wartime March 19, 2012 at 3:55 pm #

    What about this dress?
    http://www.etsy.com/listing/53030023/handbeaded-silk-dress-blue-as123
Not a beaded silk dress — there are no beads on it! Is the trim crochet?
Tags say it is OOAK, but it is not. Description says it is now available only in XS, but the tags say plus size and custom.

  29. Yellshe March 19, 2012 at 9:03 pm #

Well first of all that dress would be really unflattering on a lot of people … But it looks like it has beads wrapped in the fabric somehow.

  30. Life During Wartime March 20, 2012 at 1:36 pm #

The fabric is very dark, so it is not easy to see, but the beads appear to be very light weight. Nowhere does the seller mention what the beads are made of. To me the applied trim looks like it is all fiber rather than wood or glass or plastic beads wrapped in fabric.

    Hello,
I sell my handmade goods on etsy and recently I had a fellow etsy seller notfify me because a Chinese distributor was using my photos to sell replicated versions of my jewelry on alibaba. My husband takes photos and I model my own work….So my face was actually posted on their site wearing my handmade item…They even went as far as to copy and paste my listing descriptions. I found a bunch of other girls that make and sell in the same category as me and notified them. The seller who notified me was also on there and recognized my photos. It was a very long process to get those photos taken off and to be honest they will probably go back on that site under a new name. I contacted etsy admin and this happens all the time with that site I guess…I’m only writing because you can’t look at items on alibaba and accuse etsy sellers of being fake. It can be the other way around. You’ve accused some sellers of being fake and in fact they were true to their handmade…Just wanted to voice in because alibaba is a site where foreign companies are stealing photos and descriptions and selling a crappy replica!

  32. Life During Wartime March 20, 2012 at 11:28 pm #

Mary Mary, I think we all know that overseas companies copy items and steal photos from Etsy shops. But the reverse situation is also real — that hundreds of Etsy shops are reselling items you can find on AliBaba, which were originally designed and manufactured in China.

Which sellers have been called out here that you know are the original artists and not resellers? You should contact the blog owner and let them know.
