This seller pushes the limits. Most of her adult items don’t bother covering up the first photo and I guess in my old age, I’m becoming prudish.

http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5095529&order=&section_id=5449807&page=2 Just one item. And the masturbating dinosaur wall art? Please. Makes Etsy look awful.

The whole shop is tagged wrong.

I flagged several items in this shop this morning, of course they’re still there: Billabong and Roxy clothes, yikes.
    Come flag with me!

Check out this shop. None of this stuff is handmade!!

  7. Stephanie March 24, 2009 at 11:00 pm #

Look what I found in Baga and Purses ~ Soap!!

All of her tags are wonky. How can you tag soap as toy?

  8. fedup!! March 26, 2009 at 2:58 pm #

I’m glad you’re here!! I am amazed that this shop is constantly on the front page with her mistagged Items, I have flagged the items, but nothing happens.

She has several hats tagged (I copied and pasted)

“clothing, cape, corset, costume, dress, girl, handmade, hoodie, vintage”
“clothing, cape, costume, corset, dress, girl, handmade, hoodie, vintage, wedding gown”

Hats are not supposed to be tagged as clothing but as accessories first, not to mention the other ingenious ways she has tagged. The wedding gown sent me over the edge!!

Former seller (Francisco WoodWorks) was shut down mid-February and reopened up another shop on Etsy under a new name (Ohio River Primitives) just a couple days later. After spending a little over a month on Etsy under OhioRiverPrim their account was removed again.

Ohio River Primitives (check cached pages):

    Francisco WoodWorks (check cached pages):

    Cached Feedback from customer:

Now after probably ripping off additional buys their shop is deleted again. I am sure they will be back though under a new name so watch out!!

  10. Not Buying a Cake Today! April 7, 2009 at 10:10 am #

I just tried shopping for a cake in the Plants and Edibles > Baked Goods > Cake category, and those bakers are all over the place with their tags! There was just about every kind of baked good tagged on simple cookies.

Check it out here, and see if it doesn’t infuriate you!

Sigh… it even says in the description that it’s not handmade. How sad. I flagged it.

I flagged this seller the day they listed their first item two weeks ago. They have made 41 sales in two weeks with their massproduced crap listed in the handmade categories.

Almost everything is listed in the handmade Everything Else category, and on their very earliest listings under Materials they have put in “not made by me”. One item, a plush keychain (which clearly shows the commercial price tag) is under Dolls and Miniatures. I guess most of the stuff could go under Supplies, Commercial although the plush keychain shouldn’t be on Etsy at all.

This pisses me off. It could have been nipped in the bud if the flagging system actually worked.

This person and a partner with an extremely similar shop have been on etsy for a while, selling other people’s work.

It’s all handmade, sure, FROM BALI.
We all know you aren’t whipping out hand carved wooden and horn earrings for $20 in your san francisco townhouse, so why would you take the credit?

  19. underwhelmedbyetsy June 5, 2009 at 4:32 pm #

    this shop

Sells candles, jewelery, seed kits etc. These products are all over the net from a wholesale distributor.
They are not handmade, the seller has copied the pictures, and also used the descriptions, from another site .

There are also links to their website in the shop announcement and product descriptions

  20. underwhelmedbyetsy June 5, 2009 at 4:33 pm #

the last two links are for other sites selling the same products
sorry for the need to post twice 🙂

This site makes and sells the soap –
http://www.countrycottagebylinda.com/page/page/4481724.htm (she is also on etsy)

These sites, buy her soap and sell it on etsy…
http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5688001 (she only has a few listed, but you can see more in her sold items. it also says on the countrycottage main site that she is a reseller)

This shop also has some of the same soaps…

I’ve contacted etsy, but they won’t do anything about it.

I am extremely skeptical of this seller’s jewelry section. Her profile states that all of her items are “hand sewn” and it mentions nothing about working with jewelry, metals, glass, etc. Her materials listed are generally along the lines of “pendent, chain”… Last I checked putting a pendant onto a chain didn’t count as “making” something.

Most of her “pendents” look like something you’d get at a cheapo teenybopper jewelry store.

    Case in point: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=21267807

  32. heidi July 1, 2009 at 2:26 pm #

I dont get these shops. They are asian shops that list in the commercial supplies sections. I don’t consider mass-produced journals, notebooks, and paper sets to be supplies for crafting. (Although, they do have plenty of other things that could be used for crafting.) The thing that gets me is that people are purchasing tons of things from them and it’s obvious that they are not handmade.

  33. Say What July 10, 2009 at 8:23 pm #

    Just spotted this seller:

How can someone make something so labor intensive, with so much “semi-precious” stones, for fifteen bucks?

The shop announcement does mention that she is the designer of the jewelry but no mention that she makes it herself. Rough English could be a culprit, but the issue of the super-low price remains.

  34. etsycallout July 10, 2009 at 8:46 pm #

    say what-
They are a reseller. See earlier post https://etsycallout.wordpress.com/2009/04/24/the-necklace-that-really-gets-around/

  35. sb July 14, 2009 at 6:09 am #

I came across this seller http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6506718 and feel really hacked off that she is just copying classic work by EH Shepard for Winnie the Pooh,

for example, just one of many, hers – http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25739434

    original – http://www.just-pooh.com/pictures-view.html?id=427

    and Helen Oxenbury for Alice

    hers – http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=vl_other_1&listing_id=23610441

    original – http://www.amazon.com/Alices-Adventures-Wonderland-Lewis-Carroll/dp/0763620491

She says: “All of my artwork is Original and hand painted”, and never gives a name check to the real original artists or acknowledges they are copies. She might as well just use a light box.

I reported one of her items, but nothing happened.

  36. El July 15, 2009 at 8:26 am #

Another re-seller on the front page picked by admin –

The listing that made it to the front page –

  37. imwithya July 16, 2009 at 10:58 am #

This shop had an item on the front page last night:
They are also this shop (friends/partners couldn’t decide on a name so opened two shops instead?):

Have we discussed them before? I reported one of the shops a while ago but then they just added something to their shop announcement about how they “alter” the earrings so people with non stretched holes can wear them. But now they are selling larger gauge earrings as well. I know they are not hand carving them- these types of earrings are available all over the web. I’ve sent Etsy links but they don’t seem to care. grrr

Can I call out every seller who shows up in my search for gemstone cabochons that puts cabochons in the listings for strung beads?

    recent search I did.

no wonder I havent bought on Etsy in weeks…

gemtonebeads.etsy.com is the worst….and check out her location!!!!!!!! nice way to show up in EVERYONES Shop Local….

  39. Brenda July 23, 2009 at 8:15 am #

sent repeated flags on those shops…they were even called out directly on the forums a while back….and there they sit.

    might like that….

  41. kim August 8, 2009 at 3:24 pm #

This is one seller – nowhere in her profiles does she actually say she makes any of her items – frankly, if she could sew leather purses, make fine jewelry & sew clothes she would quite the woman.

  42. kim August 8, 2009 at 3:28 pm #

This woman readily admits in her profile, she buys the stones and has a local jeweler do all the work. How is she on Etsy?

  43. UGGH! August 14, 2009 at 12:25 pm #

This seller, FireAndKindness sells “art glass” pendants.
She claims to fuse them. They are widely available at any craft store. Firemountaingems.com has pages of them. The seller is extremely vague in her process, only saying they are fused. The tell-tale sign to anyone who works with glass is that these are LAMPWORKED not fused. For crying out loud! She didn’t even research the terminology! She has multiples available of almost every item. She has no Bio and no location listed. I’ve emailed Etsy Admin. and flagged to no avail.

  44. JK August 16, 2009 at 9:21 am #

Here’s an interesting twist on the ‘send me free stuff for my blog’ trend: http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=6188227

Not a reseller or a copier, but if you check out the coin necklace ‘review’ mentioned in the (lisajune-closed) thread, the soliciting blog might be one to watch out for.

  45. tired of crap August 16, 2009 at 9:15 pm #

    how about this shop?

  46. Brenda August 17, 2009 at 4:47 am #

    tired of crap,

that shop should be flagged for the invasion of privacy in their shop announcements! If you put in those tracking numbers, wouldnt it show the addresses of their buyers?!?!?

  47. Brenda August 17, 2009 at 4:52 am #

Can someone answer me why there isn’t a “NOT HANDMADE” category when you flag someone? theres a Handmade: not by seller category but not one that says Handmade: Not Handmade….

  48. tired of crap August 17, 2009 at 9:28 am #

i flagged a bunch of those hats, and mentioned the “call outs” in the shop announcements. who the hell does that? thats as bad as the “myspace businesses” that take photos of packages with names and addresses as “proof of shipping”

    reseller fail?

  49. tired of crap August 17, 2009 at 9:29 am #

brenda-i wish there was a “this stuff is total junk, and is made in a sweatshop by tiny people somewhere” option

  50. tired of crap August 17, 2009 at 9:30 am #

oh snap! the hat store is gone!

  51. Brenda August 17, 2009 at 9:41 am #

yay!!! I bet it was the shop announcement, I flagged and mentioned it when I flagged.

  52. heidi August 19, 2009 at 8:50 pm #

Here’s one to check out. Seller’s description says that the items are made in South Korea.

  53. Kelly August 21, 2009 at 11:11 am #

This site is obviously a scam. Three days ago, they had all KNIT PICKS yarn. I reported to Etsy abuse & called knitpicks. Within a day they took the Knitpicks yarn off and replaced it with another MACHINE MADE yarn and didn’t even bother to change the yardage/specs. They took 1 picture of yarn and COLORED with a computer every ball that is supposed to be cotton. You can tell it is all a picture of the same ball as everything is alike except the colors. They also listed that they now have lower prices, but prices have NOT changed. They offer free shipping banners on their yarn, but yet you can see clearly that there is shipping added at the bottom. I fear they are just copy & pasting other peoples yarn listings and offering it as their own.
THERE IS NO COMPANY CALLED YARNBAY, or even Yarn Bay, yet they tout 2 warhouses and 20 employees!! Never is anything mentioned that the yarn is made by them except that the yarn is “sprayed”(???). Not even listed as a supply.
They also won’t list more than 1 item even though they have a warehouse full of stock, What? Get real.

  54. Kelly August 21, 2009 at 11:17 am #

O.K. Obviously I don’t know how to post on here and I was supposed to put my own website in there and not yarnbay.
It’s official. I am a dunce…but at least you got the site I am angry about! 🙂

This guy is a repeat offender. He opened a shop last year where he sold graphics that he stole from a graphic artist. He sold one item, you can see it in his sold section. He was shut down. He has now reopened and is selling the modern version of a Chia pet – the “Little White Man’. Not his handmade, vintage, or supply….it’s resale. You can see it here: http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/216199005/Little_White_Man_Grass_Doll.html

He is a total reseller. None of the trunks and boxes he is selling are authentic vintage either, they’re 100% reproductions – I can go buy them right now at my local TJ Maxx or Marshalls. I’m sure with a little hunting any of us could find them online as well.

  58. M September 3, 2009 at 10:59 pm #

~I do not own the license to these images.
By purchasing you are paying for my time to gather & format these images for you to use in your crafting projects.

~Please do not sell, trade, or share these images.
Feel free to make things with them and sell them.

    Say what?!?!

  59. Kitty Moone September 4, 2009 at 7:45 am #

Is reselling cheap dollar-tree crap. I know because I’ve seen some of the items he’s selling at dollar tree, and I own a few myself!

Please, help shut this shop down!

  60. Sez Who? September 5, 2009 at 8:50 am #

I’m having some concerns about this shop:

I doubt those were hand-made by her. From Oriental, to Florals, to African?! That’s some suspicious variety!
Even if she did the painting and decoupaging by hand, that’s quite overpriced!

And there’s no information in either the policies, announcements, or profile!

  61. Ria September 5, 2009 at 8:11 pm #

Saw this shop list all their 122 items all in one day.
Reseller? but for sure these are mass produced products.

  62. Amy September 9, 2009 at 8:25 am #

This shop is still online! I have flagged it again and again.
The fact that the seller says she ‘chooses unique items’ is rather a give away!

Most of the clothes are by this brand :

Other clothes are a different brand. This is so blatant – the models are standing in front of boards that have the ‘DizzyDarling’ brand written all over them!

Oh, and her policies state she doesn’t do custom work. Funny that.

  63. Steve September 14, 2009 at 10:55 am #

Here’s someone selling things they don’t even have :

This was on the front page on Monday, Sept. 14.

Are you allowed to sell things you don’t actually have on hand?. On ebay it isn’t allowed, but maybe Etsy is different.

  72. Oh my October 16, 2009 at 10:29 pm #

Etsy seller “TheRiverIsEverywhere” likes to steal items ideas and descriptions (word for word) from other Etsy sellers and then she undersells the originator, effectively stealing their profits as well. Every time she is caught out, she denies it, but she also promptly removes the offending items from her shop, and moves on to find another seller to rip off.

Check out her sold items- she has sold copies of other sellers’ mini book rings, moss pot rings, and Polaroid necklaces, to name a few. She even stole photos from photographers to put on the stolen polaroid necklace idea!!

  73. kim October 22, 2009 at 7:37 am #

This jewelry seller does not make her items – she buys the diamonds and sends them to a jeweler to set as cited in her profile – how is she still selling?

i really, really, really want to know the rules on tagging items as gifts. i was under the impression that items couldn’t be tagged as a “gift” because really, anything can be a gift.

i did a search today for stockings, you know to hang on my mantle, and was bombarded with pages of “stocking stuffers”. everything from soap, to jewelry, to clutches came up. it seems if it fits in a stocking, it will be tagged as such.

i stopped searching out of frustration. i will probably end up making my own. now being a regular shopper, and former seller on etsy, i (and most of us) know how to exclude things we don’t want in a search (like “stocking stuffers”), but what about first time etsy buyers? how frustrating would that be for them?

i want to do all my christmas shopping on etsy this year, but i’m already afraid i may have a hard time finding what i need.

am i wrong is this allowed?

I just found this outrageous shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/EvolvEproductions

Not only does he sell a lot of commercial jewelry at ridiculously low prices, such as this piece:

But also various bootleg CDs like this one:

And a bunch of other crap that belongs at a yard sale, for example:

15 years is not vintage! This shop needs a serious clean up.

  81. UGGH! November 10, 2009 at 11:37 am #

I reported those bootleg Cds a while ago. Maybe if other people flag it will draw Etsy’s attention to exactly how un-cool that is.

I see this person on the front page and in etsy emails constantly. It pisses me off that they are such tag abusers.

    A sample:

bags and purses, vintage luggage, hard suitcase, daffodil yellow, autumn fall silver, victorian light, black lamp post, travel vacation, upcycled recycled, hand drawn art, getreadysetgo, children teens, samsonite, citrine

On the front page this morning:

  84. Lo&Behold November 18, 2009 at 8:35 pm #

Morelle is a shop that is promoted all over Etsy–featured in the gift guides, front page exposure, and constant treasury recognition. However, a close look at the shop’s profile reveals that Katie (owner of Morelle) is not making all of her pretty bags with her own two hands. In fact, she is blatantly breaking Etsy’s rules regarding “collective” shops.

    Morelle’s profile on Etsy:

    In the profile, Katie states:

“Last June I moved back to my home in Greece and continue to make my bags here close to family. Morelle now is a team of 5 people all committed to make lovely bags to the best of our ability.”

According to Etsy’s Dos and Dont’s, Morelle does not meet Etsy’s guidelines to be considered a “collective.” Even if Morelle met the criteria, Katie does not disclose the other members, roles, and relationships in the shop profile, which is a strict requirement by Etsy.

Is this guy for real???? huby06 is selling assorted indian, thai & mexican silver jewelry (he’s calling it vintage and designer).

Take a look at his Profile: “i have been selling vintage and designer jewelry for several years now. i am currently expanding into the english speaking countries. my current webshops are available in german and french only.”

    His Etsy shop:

Does this look like a resell to anyone?

Kind of breaks my heart, since I was an inch away from buying them…
The seller has mostly “charms” in their shop- I can (maybe kinda) understand sticking a mass-produced charm on a chain and calling it “handmade”, but it looks like the earrings in question are just a blatant resell. I hope I’m wrong on this one…

  87. susan November 25, 2009 at 4:28 pm #

Another seller who buys sale crap at Target and Michaels and resells it on Etsy. Feedback is a fun read, as well:

  89. jenjasmine November 28, 2009 at 10:25 pm #

The seller notes–“*disclaimer* A note on the wholesaler’s website states:”

    Same shop also has http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=34614859–

  90. balloongirl December 3, 2009 at 9:31 am #

Seller with multiple raffle ticket listings in their shop. Listings have been reported and flagged a billion times. Still there, tackying up the joint. Plus, they’re tagged Handmade.

An entire shop of Disney ornaments — not copyright violation (check this picture for the Disney mark: http://ny-image3.etsy.com//il_fullxfull.101288331.jpg ), just blatant, blatant reselling: http://www.etsy.com/shop/FiveKidsCreations

Found her at the bottom of this page in a post: http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=6370040&page=8

  92. balloongirl December 10, 2009 at 8:46 am #

Um, seriously? Did not know this was an option.

Listed under Handmade, Everything Else category.

  93. Marg December 10, 2009 at 5:18 pm #

Here is one of the resellers recently targeted by the sock who left negative feedback.

She whined in the forum thread that she just had a few supplies mistagged & claimed to make her rings.

here are some interesting identical photos:

Note her “handmade” rings are only available in one size, yet she sometimes has sold multiples. If they are handmade, can’t you make more than one size per type of stone?

also, some of the pendants are available from the same eBay sellers, & she hasn’t changed the tags to supplies yet as she promised she would. (Although a silver druzy one has been removed since the call out)

  94. IfICouldKnitLikeThat December 15, 2009 at 3:46 am #

I can’t prove it but does the word reseller come to mind.
This shop is also on Ebay and Artfire. She takes orders from a non-Etsy email address for all sizes.
    I have flagged but…….

I just found this site and all I can say is “wow! I have been using etsy for under 2 yrs and was so hoping it would be all it was promoted to be. I too, have seen examples of WTF, and “I can’t believe my eyes”. It saddens me, especially when those items sell. Is there no safe haven for quality conscious creative people?

  96. Catish December 21, 2009 at 8:56 am #

In a post some time ago it was mentioned that you’d link to the diff. legal teams of Disney, Sanrio etc. Is this happening ? I have too much time on my hands anyhow and could totally spend time looking up copyright thefts. That would be something useful.

  97. JK December 31, 2009 at 11:41 am #

    Here’s a real winner: http://www.etsy.com/shop/outletbisque
Pics are straight from the catalogs, with what might possibly be considered supplies all listed in Handmade.

  98. Lah January 2, 2010 at 7:22 pm #

I hope you can post this info as this particular shop so blatantly flies in the face of Etsy rules on tagging for vintage and upcycled. The seller, GetReadySetGO.etsy.com, sells a collection of “vintage” and/or “upcycled” luggage in a wide variety of sizes and styles…but the really remarkable thing is, you have dozens of color and artwork options for each individual vintage listing!

“WELCOME to the “PICK YOUR POISON” line!
ALL blank luggage- bags, train cases, suitcases etc. just waiting to be UPCYCLED with whatever designs YOU CHOOSE…. OR YOU CAN GRAB IT THE WAY IT IS!

Now, when is the last time you saw someone have access to luggage over 20 years old that is as popular as the “purple train case”?…

” ahhhh- The purple train case! a color in high high demand for sure! i will upcycle this piece with a black tree on the front, a black leaf on top and one on the back. or convo me and you can choose different artwork!”

I’ve flagged, but nothing happens, and it’s just so blatant and…obnoxious? Unlimited vintage in 30 colors? Thanks.

has this one been noticed yet?

  100. Voice January 6, 2010 at 10:46 am #

This seller http://www.etsy.com/shop/yourfairytalewedding was on the FP today. She makes reproductions of designer wedding dresses and uses their stock photos for her listings. The photo used on the FP was this listing http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=35190954&ref=fp_feat_8 which is a photo from the dress designer Hollywood Dreams in the UK: http://www.hollywooddreams.co.uk/index.html She has a lot of their images.

She says in her Policies: “Please note: Not all images are my own photo’s. They are stock photo’s for reference of your finished wedding gown. Some are mine and some are not. If you see an image here that may seem questionable or is your own, then please email me and I will remove it immediately.
I am in no way trying to misrepresent myself or claim photographers works as my own. I am merely giving examples of gowns that I can create and will create upon purchasing from my shop.”

At least she discloses this, but the fact is she is violating copyright by using the photos at all and she knows it. And so should anyone with half a brain who looks at her listings. Yet she was chosen for a treasury by epicCpoke (come on, treasury makers, vet your selections!) and Etsy put her on the FP. For shame. There are shops with ORIGINAL wedding dress designs on Etsy — how about featuring them instead?

Etsy seller Portobello (already mentioned here!) has about 18 or 20 items in her shop right now, that she not only bought wholesale from 925e.com, but she is USING THEIR PICTURES! Example: her earrings ($79): http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=37760285

    Wholesaler ($10.95): http://www.925e.com/order-silver-jewelry.php?ProdNum=44512&SubCat=789&IorP=I&ToggleIP=0&ref=cats

    Her “handmade” necklace ($159): http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=37899097

    Wholesale necklace ($11.58): http://www.925e.com/order-silver-jewelry.php?ProdNum=51186&SubCat=986&IorP=I&ToggleIP=0&ref=cats

There are about 18 other items right now but I won’t post them all here. Just check out her items in the catagory “Pearls and Silver Sparkles” and compare them all with 925e.com.

All the items in her shop with that sort of torn paper motif are pictures taken directly from 925e.com. She didn’t even bother to re-shoot the jewelry!

I’ve flagged and reported, and nothing has been done. She keeps adding more each day. Also, 925e.com has an $800 minimum, so she is planning to list at least $800 worth of stuff she DID NOT make, and sell for what, $8000? This is such a ripoff.

  102. Brian January 7, 2010 at 9:27 pm #

I had to add a couple more of Portobello’s “handmade” and “copyrighted” designs—that she purchased wholesale from 925e.com. Check these out:

Her “Hula Hoop” earrings ($133): http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=37899926

    Wholesaler’s ($16.65): http://www.925e.com/order-silver-jewelry.php?ProdNum=49093&SubCat=986&IorP=I&ToggleIP=0&ref=cats

Her “Force of Nature” pearl ring ($129): http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=37893826

The wholesale catelog pic ($17.33): http://www.925e.com/order-silver-jewelry.php?ProdNum=56594&SubCat=382&IorP=I&ToggleIP=0&ref=cats

    Her “Magnolia” necklace (a whopping $275): http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=37779154

    The wholesale item ($39.03): http://www.925e.com/order-silver-jewelry.php?ProdNum=44027&SubCat=780&IorP=I&ToggleIP=1&ref=search

And absolutely EVERYTHING in her shop here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/portobello?section_id=6676024

    …can be found at 925e.com here: http://www.925e.com/silver-jewelry-list.php?SetMCID=5&SetCTID=54&Subject=Wholesale%20COLLECTIONS%20-%202010%20Silver%20Collection

Reseller from China, also selling on ebay (don’t even bother to edit the ‘bidding’ terms)

exact same photos, title and descriptions

i saw this peacock eyes headband being sold for uber-expensive price on seller portobello that’s previously been called out, the listing’s not there anymore though, probably removed or sold. haven’t checked on the sold items yet.

also guilty from trying to avoid etsy fees
    listing for $1, shipping’s for $96

thought etsy would mind this one if it’s directly affecting their fees?

  116. whatisvintage March 7, 2010 at 8:43 am #

Come on Etsy – what is vintage really? These have been on the FP repeatedly and they are NOT vintage. They are not even 20 years old. And vintage is more than 20 years old. Give me a break.

“This soft cover vintage book would make a great gag gift for birthday, artschool graduaction, or for anyone who just loves ( I mean adores) the late 90s. This book is in great condition. Have fun!”

OH, I see. SO it’s from the late 90s AND 1989? heh all from a ‘Vintage’ seller with 944, 100% pos.

  128. Finally Sunshine April 5, 2010 at 1:35 pm #

The woman touts her high quality handmade nickel free purse frames. Poor thing is doing so well that she’s out of stock on some (3 weeks toiling to make some up she says in her announcement. Take a look at her listing and announcement

Now take a look at her request on Alibaba where she says she’s working with a manf in China that is too slow LOL

  129. Finally Sunshine April 5, 2010 at 2:21 pm #

OK, now she’s changed her story. Now she says she had to have them made with a new mold. Before she said she had the mold made and created these frames alone in her basement while babynaps. She’s blogging about the large ball type being inferior now, she doesn’t carry those of course. I’m curious to see how fast she changes that line when she gets a good offere from China on the large ball ones.

  130. Brenda Braun April 8, 2010 at 1:50 pm #

whats the big deal? commercial supplies are allowed?

  131. Finally Sunshine April 8, 2010 at 2:12 pm #

The big deal is that she claimed to be making these frames in her basement “big old made in the usa story” because any other purchased ones were far too inferior. She changed that story to “had a form made”. I don’t think anyone cares if she buys them to resell, thats what supplies are. I do care that she’s lied to her buyers though and that she’s making her frames appear to be better quality than those others.

Speaking of faux wedding jewelry designers–after reading your post about TZTUDIO and JoanMareeOriginals I’ve become much more vigilant about spotting the mass produced jewelry items on Etsy. The newest offender? Belcanto–
who has has 369 sales to date. I’m not sure about the provenance of all of her designs, but I found two items right off the top that are from this site:
(a favorite of TZTUDIO as well…)
    with hers:
    with hers:
I’m only scratching the surface here, but it would be wonderful if you could do a post about it and hopefully they will be shut down. As a designer who actually handcrafts all of my own jewelry it is disgusting to have to compete with these dishonest sellers.
ps– last I checked, JoanMareeOriginals is still operating…amazing…

This seller, Chuanshuo, is reselling items from the Chinese website taobao.com.

    Here is their Etsy Store:

How do you know it’s not just a Chinese designer who sells on Taobao and on Etsy separately? Because they sell items from 3 distinct taobao stores, in far away cities.

Also, this seller puts their own name on the photos they copy, cropping out the name originally there. If they were the same store, there would be no need for that.

Take a look at the listings I’ve prepared below. The fist listing is the one on Etsy, and the second listing is the one on taobao. I chose listings from three separate stores as I mentioned above.

Please help me tag if you’re not a fan of resellers!

Once upon a time there was this person who had nothing to do except Blog about others.
This person invited everyone who was like-minded to join them on their blog to do the same. The only problem was that they all talked about others in a very cynical and negative way. They did this to a point where they feed each other a great deal of self-righteousness and indignation and they believed themselves to be upright and very smart.

They went to great lengths to humiliate, take advantage and consume the people they talked about. They poisoned and construed every little parcel and morsel that they feed on to make sure it appeared as vile as they themselves actually were. But, they had to do so, because how else could they digest their self-indulgence in hating and provoking hate and notorious allegations about those they talked about.

However, little did they know, that some not so like-minded people where made aware of their little tyrannical tea time parties and they decided to take suit …lawsuits… against those who participate in harmful gossip and destructive lashing out towards others. There are no greater offences than that of hate and open self-righteous willingness to grant and encourage others to do the same.

History has seen your kind, time and time again! This time we are there. We have been keeping a close watch on you since you opened your Blog and we just want to let you know that you are not the only one watching offensive acts of conduct. We are also watching you and the likes of you.

  152. Rachel July 21, 2010 at 6:47 pm #

While this seller DOES have some nice, unique items, it seems a lot of her things are blatant copyright infringements.

This section calls itself out….True Blood and Twilight
The images are just simply stolen, not even creative.

This section seems to be the worst:
All of the images used in her buttons are stolen from commercial websites. Most seem to be rip-offs of Tshirt images from Spencers, Hot Topic, Tshirt Hell, Snorgtees, and other known places with funny Tees.
Then of course there’s Disney, Dora, Hello Kitty….

And I’m SURE that all of these have been approved by the CPSIA, too…

ummm albatross? thats a supply store, they are fine on etsy, they seem to have their items listed under supply…

maybe you should revisit the TOU for etsy?

  155. blood, sweat and tears July 24, 2010 at 8:58 am #

that chinese cutting facility is obviously legal as a commercial supply seller, but they sell a lot of dyed and misdescribed drilled stones. their prices say it all, don’t expect great quality, and think about the working conditions of the cutters. at this price i doubt they are providing a really safe work place.

  159. Sara August 4, 2010 at 5:59 pm #

How can they claim this is vintage when the ferris wheel on it was built ten years ago? It’s even labelled as the Millenium Wheel. Sheesh.

This girl likes to sell just about anything as vintage.

http://www.etsy.com/listing/45008151/ – Another tagged as 1950s. From the Dress Barn, which didn’t even exist until the 60s, and the sizing is recent.

I came across this seller today, they may fall under Etsy’s def of “collective”. I’m no expert at spotting resellers or factories so I could be wrong about this, but figured I would bring it up and see.

  163. Brian August 9, 2010 at 9:30 pm #

Featured right now on Etsy’s front page are some “vintage” ice cube martini glasses ($25 for 4 plus $12 shipping) from seller WhiteDoily. The trouble is, these of course are NOT vintage and a simple google image search for “cube martini glasses” will show these same glasses for $3.95 each at inspiredhomedecor (dot) com. I’ve also seen them at Ross recently for much less than $36.

No one person can hand make all of these pillows and sell them at this price! She never claims she makes them only that she designs them.

  169. lindsey August 16, 2010 at 10:09 am #

Will someone please look at this seller that was included in the etsy finds blogpost today. Only twice I believe she has sold the same design but all of the collars look like she has yanked a tag out of them. In this one she even blurred the collar because it is obvious there was a tag there.

There are A LOT of signs that this shop is sketchy. She has another shop selling food. The grammar in both shops is pretty similar to other shops that have been flagged and called out due to being resellers.

craflittlethings is a blatant reseller! She claims she is the designer of the wedding dresses on her website, if you read all of the wedding dress listings – she says she’ll make it in a regular standard size, but if you want it altered, you have to take it to a tailor to have it altered. If you are making it why can’t you make it to fit?
Most of “HER” dresses can be found on the website below – too many to list them all. BY the way, I convo’d her, she told me she is the designer and handmade the dresses you see in the photos, she makes a ton of them and says she is back ordered that I better hurry up and order it now – (but wouldn’t give me a straight answer on why she can’t do custom) and she works for a bridal boutique (how convienent).

Also she loves to resell clutches

    online (various sellers) http://www.shopadilly.co.uk/Auctions/peacock+bag

soooo. the good old forums are on fire about this again. the gosh for saken treasury that is supposed to be “fair” and voted on by the members of etsy – has been completely hijacked by the agteam and curationnation. and because etsy admin aren’t able to even check if a person has been on a treasury twice in the same day already (um craftcult – hello) these teams are continually gaming the system – and as a result certain etsians have spots on the front page practically reserved. one such member routinely enters forum posts about the treasury to bully other members (y’all know who i’m talking about – you’ll often find her on the homepage 3 times a day – she’s been mentioned here before) – and she gives interesting advice. noting that she makes lots of treasuries and others ought to do the same. oh sure!

really on some other level folks ought to smarten up. while a select few are able to “game” the etsy machine – most folks are getting gamed. etsy’s doing pretty ok in the bankroll department, couldn’t they pay someone to curate the front page, or at least check for huge repeats for certain individuals or teams. really? oh make a treasury – do our work for us. and better yet, if you’re on the agteam or curationnation and can get all your friends to view and click and view and click – well it’s your birthday!

so ask yourself, if your store isn’t doing well, no matter what you do? perhaps you’re getting gamed.

  184. lulu September 12, 2010 at 6:16 pm #

Why is the wedding section on Etsy such a disaster? This shop is interesting… Most of the images show up in other places all over the web.
    Her listing: http://www.etsy.com/listing/51507117/petals-short-wedding-dress-with
    Nordstrom: http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2920434?origin=category&resultback=1203

    her listing:
which happen to be stock photos.

no perhaps she is the designer of SOME of these gowns, or perhaps she is just using them as samples of what she CAN try to duplicate, but either way she doesn’t say ANYTHING about whether or not she actually made these gowns in the photos.

    This one is interesting.
    hers: http://www.etsy.com/listing/51947170/beaches
and Bali Art Photo on Flickr : http://www.flickr.com/photos/27156764@N05/3279889641/in/photostream/

Which if she did make this dress wouldn’t you want to say something about how you made this dress specifically for Elise? It is odd that all of the photos Sewdelicious has are the only ones provided on any of the websites. She doesn’t appear to have any “extra” photos.
Also suspect- her shop policies. Re-stocking fees? and the bit about additional alterations? It all just sounds a little bit off.

  185. lulu September 14, 2010 at 7:11 pm #

Of course handmade gloves for $6.95 and they even took the time to put a cardboard insert in them to make them look like they are store bought.

Not sure about the rest of the store- looks pretty shady to me, but I couldn’t pull up any further info. I don’t understand how they are making any sort of profit if they actually are handcrafting these items.

I swear to god this is the standard cheapest wedding garter available EVERYWHERE – I even had the same one when I got married. http://www.etsy.com/listing/52959013/ivory-garter-brides-lace-garter

It always embarasses me when I see sellers from my home state that are obvious resellers.

Not saying these aren’t handmade, because I have not done my research on these (have a feeling they aren’t current popular styles) but have a sneaking suspicion that they are just “left overs” in a bridal boutique, hence the massive amount of wedding dresses in the background, random dresses in random sizes…

again NOT saying that they are NOT handmade, but it would be interesting to initiate a convo with the seller about doing a “custom order”… and see what we come up with

BTW- I love that the shop owner bio:

seriously- if I can find this shop just by doing a simple search for prom dresses- why can’t etsy do the same?

I think the sellers are a little confused as to what Etsy is SUPPOSED to be all about… The whole darn store needs to be flagged- and shut down.

This seller bought themselves a slot in the daily showcase. Seriously, does Etsy EVER look at anything on their own site? I mean any person with HALF a brain could figure out this is a reseller within 30 seconds of looking at this shop. They even post the manufacturer name in some of the titles and in the product description.

by the way- Ark Apparel and Spectraa Designs both come up as clothing distributors.

A special thanks to Etsy for allowing their site to become the new Max10 and Dots.

  199. Lana November 1, 2010 at 9:00 am #

I know that this website is about calling out bad sellers on Etsy and that’s fine. However, I think some of the things you guys are doing like blowing the whistle on certain sellers by contacting BIG business (I think you all know who I mean from this past week- it’s starting to get around the internet which is where I’ve heard it) could not just harm Etsy but get it shut down if the BIG company destroys Etsy with legal fees and then EVERYONE could loose their shop- even people who did nothing wrong. I’m just asking that you think about this before blowing your whistle again and contacting another BIG company about Copyright issues on Etsy.

  200. boots November 1, 2010 at 10:53 am #

or Etsy could actually pay attention to what is being sold on their site and shut those sellers down themselves….

  201. em November 1, 2010 at 11:22 am #

    *what boots said*

it’s not our responsibility to look out for Etsy when they refuse to look out for their sellers or, for that matter, anyone but themselves.

  202. Inspector Yuk November 1, 2010 at 11:43 am #

    Re: Post 208 Lana:

Sorry, I disagree wholeheartedly with your comments. It is unlikely that Etsy will get shut down because of individuals violating the copyrights and trademarks of big companies. they have their ‘just a venue’ clause to fall back on.

I hope more people get upset over the unlawful use of licensed characters, the sellers who don’t heed copyright or trademark laws and report them to the companies and force Etsy (and these sellers) to be responsible.

Innocent sellers are already being hurt by Etsy and these unethical sellers because consumers are getting used to being able to have unlawful copies of popular products and think that it is ok to do so.

It’s about time we re-educated everyone, sellers and consumers alike that copying without permission and using the trademarked names of famous or popular characters for profit are illegal and unethical.

  203. sick of cupcakes November 1, 2010 at 12:22 pm #

Etsy cares not about us, I hope they do go out of business.

  204. madmomma November 5, 2010 at 11:16 am #

You would THINK that Etsy would have one person that could just BROWSE over the new shops as they are added… and then make a little list of ones that look questionable- then hand the list off to someone else to investigate further if needed…

I mean REALLY how hard would it be to have someone look over all the new shops as they sign up? Even if there were 500 new shops a day (which I am sure there is NOT) that would still be feasible for one person to quickly look over within one work day.

here is another blasted re-seller orifashion

(at least the shop re-photographed the wedding dresses) which does make it difficult to compare – but again- I bet there isn’t anything in this shop that isn’t made in a factory.

working on cracking the shop iampamm on etsy-
feel free to search alibaba and post if you find anything…
    damn you Etsy.

  205. madmomma November 5, 2010 at 3:41 pm #

It is quite absurd that you would even consider defending the rights of people that violate copyrights by asking other not to call them out…
ANYONE who reproduces material that has a copyright damn well knows they are violating the law (unless they are perhaps 5 years old).
You may not like the law, but it still is the law. If you are REALLY concerned you should be writing to ETSY to tell them that you fear for their livelyhood due to the fact that there are sellers on their site that are violating copyright laws.
    Don’t support scammers!
There is SO much more at stake than Etsy here. Every time someone steals from another, it drives up consumer prices, hurts the manufacturer, the designers, the integrity of the corporation, etc… Big corporations deserve protection just as much as the individual. Scammers hurt everyone.

By the way- it is GOOD to know that the word is spreading… It is encouraging to know that people are becoming better informed and when more people understand, more take action and actions make change possible.

  206. madmomma November 5, 2010 at 3:58 pm #

    more Orifashion comparisons:
now that I had a moment to re-group…

Now- take a look at the code number the Etsy seller has listed- and the one on the factory store site… Exactly the same. Also- take note that there the photos are the same woman, but different poses. I have a stinking suspicion that actual factories are the ones opening these shops on Etsy.
It would make a great amount of sense- the etsy shops that keep selling these wedding dresses and prom dresses tend to have photos of the same items, with the same models, but without the watermarks and or different poses… but still use the same dress numbers.
I believe Etsy could easily contact these sellers and tell them NO MORE!!!

  207. Madel November 11, 2010 at 5:08 am #

I knew I’ve seen this this “I love you” envelope necklace before!

The 2nd shop uses also photos from the wholesale site – how cool is that!

  208. Monopoly running mulitple shops November 17, 2010 at 7:47 am #

These shops are running a monopoly on Etsy. The original store
Viola Vintage stays within Etsy’s rule about running multiple shops:
http://www.etsy.com/shop/violavintage she has link to her new shop as required:
http://www.etsy.com/shop/jorjaclare be sure to note the banner on jojaclare
Now she has opened another shop called Iconic Styles at cheaper prices but most of the same stuff. I flagged a couple and they are gone:

I messaged the shop and point blank asked if they were one in the same. A NO after to attempts is all I received. How do I know for sure aside for the items, the banner, and conveniently being from Thailand? If you go to the link of their web album you will find their last name. Which are the same as the last name as their family blog.

I tried a final message to her and asked if the answer is no why do they have the same location and same last name. Of course I received no response. All they have to do is put a link to their other shops in their profile and they would be within the rules. They have no profile or policies in this new shop. I don’t get it except that they want to monopolize these style of clothing.

Making treasuries to promote yourself is one thing. Low, but people do it.

Making treasuries with another ID to promote yourself is lower.

Logging out and then logging in on your other ID so that you can COMMENT on your sock puppets treasury featuring your item is epicly low.

But hey, you got it on the FP so who is really the loser here?

    Etsy 5-14-2008 – 10102 sales to date
    Dwanda 9-28-2008 – 3596 sales to date

    Their profile on Etsy says:
    Currently our team members are
Joey(main contact, model and muse), Lu feng(paterning for new designs and team leader of making), Lee xiaohui(sewing), Chen sisters(sewing), gerald(designing, shipping), gerald’s dad(regular fabric ordering, preshrinking and shipping) and mum(traditional frogclosure making, embroidering, stitching buttons, ironing, QC and packing).
We take part in every part of the every piece, so the piece is designed and made by our team instead of individual.

    And the Dewanda site says:
    Currently our team members are:
Ben, Gloria, shoufu, Summer, Yin sifu(paterning for new designs), Frannie(model), Chan, Lee, gerald, gerald’s dad(regular fabric ordering and preshrinking) and mum(traditional frogclosure making, embroidering, ironing and packing).
We take part in every part of the every piece, so the piece is designed and made by our team instead of individual.

Either way, it makes you wonder just how many people will Etsy allow in a “collective”?

Seller portugesevintage mixes actual vintage items with tons of faux-vintage iron hooks and brass bottle openers:

This pisses me off, because I almost bought some of her hooks a few weeks back thinking they were genuine!

What the hell is going on here? I am STILL trying to figure all of this out, but it is apparent these shops are re-sellers, just can find all of the sources, but… if you compare these shops side by side, read the profile, announcements, etc… something REALLY fishy is going on!

    Let’s start here:

    – Note hang tags in some of the photos
    – Note the same background (park) in photos in each shop
    Shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/karensdreamhome Sept 28 2010
    Shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/Mumianji Nov 7 2010

    Same item, just different color:

Now this gets even more confusing,
Read the profile of both of these shops (perhaps Mumianji stole idea2lifestyle’s ?)

    Now, let’s look at
    Shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/Youmai Oct 29 2010
    Shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/sanghema March 25 2010

    Both have the same item…

    Now, let’s look at
    Shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/karensdreamhome Sept 28 2010
    Shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/gysde July 17 2010

They both have the same exact jacket (same style lines, etc… just different models)

Is your head spinning yet? IF you look carefully you’ll see the same models, faces blurred and profile/announcements that sound like others, etc…
I just don’t have the time to further investigate, but I know with a little more digging – the whole mess would probably unravel.

What pisses me off the most about this when re-sellers put these sort of LIES in their profiles:

My name is Arwa. I am 36 years old and for the past 5 years have been designing woman’s clothing. I feel very grateful to have found this wonderful Etsy community that has allowed me to do what I love so much.
I love creating tunics and classic garments that make any woman feel feminine , comfortable and fashionable. Fit is extremely important to me and I always do my best to make sure your garment fits like you want it to. Feel free to consult with me about fabrics ,colors, the way a garment will fit .
I especially want to say thank you to all of you who make a choice to buy HANDMADE and support fair trade. So THANK YOU

Funny both shops have the same items, and as an example the EXACT same photos- a bit of a price different though:

Here’s a screamer: a brand new reseller asking how many different sorts of her “handmade” items she can sell:

  219. madmomma December 6, 2010 at 10:57 pm #

    Seriously, not handmade.

nothing like jacking the price up a bit for Etsy and not bothering to cover it up…

Tells the story of her mother the seamstress “my mother, an old tailor, she worked in a factory for ten years, and she retired three years ago, she is a good tailor, she did this job in her most life, All clothes in our shop are handmade by her. Usually, it will take her about 3-4 days to made one clothes”.

Meanwhile, the website of the Temptress Moon Dress 盛装风月 http://shop33831143.taobao.com/ shows 78,000 items sold since august 2006, feedback on 47,000, 3770 items sold last month.

The brand is 烟花烫 Yanhua Tang

Scroll down the left of this page:
and see “charming dress” on Etsy which “need long time” embroider
and sold 119 out of Temptress Moon’s taobao shop just last month!

The brand is sold (on sale, actually) several sites:
where you can get the “charming dress” for as little as $24.

Interestingly, http://www.yanhautang.com seems to be hiring – photographer (10, stylist (1) models (2), graphic design (2)..
They need to hire Wang Wang and her mother & sister — they seem to do it all in no time!!

Wow if Etsy shut done resellers as fast as they shut down topics in their forums we wouldn’t have an issue with resellers.

  223. frustrating! December 13, 2010 at 12:00 am #

With almost 800 items in her shop you can figure out that she’s not making these herself. And look at the prices! This is the type of stuff you’d find at Pier One Imports or Pottery Barn. Handmade by cheap Indian labor. This Etsy seller from India claims she was fashion designer. The first line of her profile talks about the skilled hand work and craftsmanship that her country is known for so that’s a subtle way of saying she doesn’t make the stuff herself.

And then there’s this shop http://www.etsy.com/shop/anandaart that just opened with exactly the same pillow covers claiming to be made by rural Indian artisans.

  224. Jennifer December 13, 2010 at 11:44 am #

I found this shop on Regretsy:

This is a reseller shop. Note that many of her listings include these words in the description:
“***Please note these kits are not handmade they are purchased from a manufacturer. I inspect all the pieces to ensure that there is no missing items or broken, uneven pieces. I also repackage them nicely and include all the supplies needed to finish them (glue, scissors, etc.)”

Yet she lists these kits from Oriental Trading Company

    under Handmade/children.

I thought this shop deserved a call-out all its own.

Thanks, Regretsy, for helping us find resellers!

I was looking for cufflinks on Etsy and found this shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/cufflinksblink

I searched “Anchor and rudders cufflinks” and found the exact same cufflinks in many places. In her shop announcement she used to say that she sells wholesale cufflinks. I’ve reported her, and nothing happened except now her announcement doesn’t say that anymore.

HELP – WHAT CAN I DO MORE to stop this frauds?

Bumblebeesknee is a fraudster seller. I reported him to Etsy, to paypal, and even to the FBI!

And he is still “selling” here.
Very much people did not receive their payed items. He has two shops and there are 500 positive feedbacks from ONE “buyer”, so in total not so bad feedback. ( 93% and 95%). The two shopnames he uses in etsy are: bumblebeesknee and itsmeowornever. The persons name, who is writing all the positive feedback to both of the shops is kittstreasures. Again in the last 3 days kittstreasures left 56 pos. feedbacks, and again no, no, no feedback from bumblebeesknees to this absolutely best customer *LOL*
I sent a list with 26 customers, who did not received their items to etsy, paypal, FBI…. 2 weeks ago. Nothing happens, bumblebeesknee can continue selling things that he does not deliver…..

  228. Marlene December 24, 2010 at 12:19 am #

I am definitely seeing double with these two shops:

I’d also really like to know if this shop is legit:

I’ve bought from her before, but the amount of inventory she has makes me skeptical and I feel like I’ve seen some of the lockets in other etsy shops too.

  229. Artfire Seller December 27, 2010 at 5:29 pm #

There is something very fishy about these shops. Vivian Feiler appears to have 3 shops on Etsy. She claims to be a jewelry designer. The 3 shops all have the same items. Each shop has the other shop listed in their favorites. Supposedly, everything is made by the person; however, the items just have a wholesaler/reseller feel to them.

This bracelet (open the listing and look at the 2nd photo down from the top): http://www.etsy.com/listing/64800683/4-strands-of-swarovski-white-pearls-and

And now… I’m just sick because I stumbled across the fact that I believe a long-time Etsy seller may be a reseller. Azuretreasures sure has a lot of stuff that is exactly like Happy Jewelry Manufactory. As a matter of fact, the photos are exactly the same. So somebody is stealing photos from somebody else.

    This from azuretreasures: http://www.etsy.com/listing/63799596/filigree-moon-and-crystal-heart-necklace?ga_search_query=moon&ga_search_type=user_shop_ttt_id_5366593

    Is exactly like this: http://happyjewelry.en.alibaba.com/product/265904931-209602717/Swarovski_necklace_Swarovski_pendant_fashion_jewelry.html

Actually pretty much every photo from Azuretreasures and Happy Jewelry is exactly the same. So someone is stealing photos from someone else.

Does anyone know if this shop is on the up-and-up? http://www.etsy.com/shop/heartmycloset?ref=pr_shop_more

I’d really like to get something from them, but their prices are suspiciously low and they’re also offering things like custom suits.

  233. Jennifer December 30, 2010 at 5:49 pm #

It does seem to be genuinely custom made, but NOT by a single person or small group. They have over 150 items listed on ebay:

  234. NewbBuyer January 1, 2011 at 3:18 pm #

So, I don’t really know whether that violates the terms of service for etsy, but definitely not what I’m looking for. Sigh. It’s just so hard to tell. I’ve started looking through my faves list to see if I can spot factory-made stuff, and it’s actually pretty hard for me to tell.

    This shop, for instance: http://www.etsy.com/shop/Salts?ref=top_trail

The seller links to her website: http://www.saltsorganic.com

The “about” page says the following: “All of Salts Organic Clothing is designed and produced in North America. This is important to us because we want to support the communities that we live and play in. Salts also manufactures close to home to cut down on our own environmental footprint. It is important to our company values that we maintain good labour practices and know how the power is made that moves our sewing machines. Manufacturing in North America allows us to keep a close eye on what goes into our products. ”

Sounds like they’re doing good stuff… but again, maybe not what etsy purports to be about.

  235. Artfire Seller January 3, 2011 at 12:26 pm #

Wholesaler/exporter. Admits it right in their shop announcement. Problem is, they have supplies on their front page but necklaces, pendants, and other earrings listed in their shop.

    Website About us page: http://www.jewelsexports.com/index.php?main_page=page&id=2&chapter=7

At what point is etsy going to quietly switch from “handmade and vintage” to Handmade style and vintage look?” as their business message. They’re there anyways.

  237. EtsyDontCare January 7, 2011 at 7:25 pm #

I love that shop heartmycloset I think like Iconic Styles & Viola Vintage they are just the front and they give the orders to a factory or whoever they have hired to make them.

I’ve been tempted by a couple of her items but what is that saying? “Practice what you preach”. I would rather spend more on a shop that I know the person is personally creating. Funny how these shops have cleaned up their profiles or don’t bother having one.

  238. EtsyDontCare January 9, 2011 at 5:20 pm #

Am I missing something? I thought it was against Etsy TOU to have porn or is vintage Playboy, Hustler, Penthouse etc not considered porn? I have just been doing searching on what is against their rules due to the CNN report and wonder why I found a number of shops that sell these magazines. Not to mention most don’t have mature on it and actually show pictures of from the magazines. Look down your shirt and spell Attic.

I’m an adult I can handle it but some of the listings such as museumgoround have flashcards in the same place they have these magazines.

  239. JK January 14, 2011 at 1:29 pm #

Get yer factory-fresh vintage and fake handmade while it’s hot! Or wait; it’s not like Etsy will be kicking them off any time soon: http://www.etsy.com/shop/chinahandwork?ref=pr_shop_more

And nothing says ‘dedicated craftsperson’ or ‘educated vintage seller’ quite like a total lack of description in the listings, right?

  240. EtsyDontCare January 23, 2011 at 10:26 pm #

Ok let’s mix and match so maybe someone will be fooled that I’m really a reseller. I swear the models are everywhere.

Just do a search on Ebay for dresses and you will see their cute smiling faces.

I love how this shop mixes fashions with glassware and jewelry.

59 sales so far and the store announcement:
Most of our clothes are in free sizes and fits all. So please see our design details section under clothes description for actual measurements.

Of course you aren’t making them so they don’t need actual measurements.

ROFL- did somebody get shut down?

  246. FormerEtsyBuyer January 25, 2011 at 8:14 am #

No, it’s not a federal offense to alter money—only if you’re trying to commit fraud. That’s why they have those “penny press” machines at Disneyland and other places too. Or you can buy coins that have been “colorized”, things like that. Google “counterstamped coins” to see what coins used to be used for! All legal.

It IS a federal offense to alter money if you’re trying to commit fraud, like make a $10 bill look like a $100 bill. But otherwise, you can make rings out of coins, wear a coin as a necklace, stamp words in coins (like Alisa Michelle “pocket change” jewelry) etc.

Etsy has given “lip service” to a new prohibited items policy. When this site was reported they said they need to look into it. What?! What part of hate doesn’t Etsy get? Just read the profile for this shop and read the items for sale. If this was an attack on Muslims the shop owner would have to be afraid for his life, but it is alright to attack Jesus I guess.

These are turned into keyrings and necklaces which is fine, but it’s not okay to call it vintage when these are just purchased wholesale, and never really existed in the Old West anyway. Here they are wholesale from one site, called “fantasy tokens”:

She’s been on Etsy for a while and obviously sells handmade things…so why on earth would she start selling mass produced shit all of a sudden? This is outrageous.

    Her “handmade” owl necklace.

    Pictures from Alibaba.

    Another “handmade” owl necklace.

That picture is obviously just cropped from a picture off Alibaba. There are so many mass produced owl necklaces similar to that one!

The nerve of her to rip buyers off!

This item can be found at the above web address and is mass produced. Not sure if this has been flagged by anyone before (apologies if it has!)

Not sure how it is in US, but in Asia, these Korean/Taiwanese/Japanese online clothing stores are very wildly spread on Facebook. Such as this one.

Watch out for their photography style, the brown background and the room set ups. And look at this shop on Etsy.

It’s virtually impossible to find the exact same dresses if they are from old releases, since they are renewed quite frequently and every release has like… 100 or so dresses from various different companies, but you get the idea about the photography style. 🙂

Just found this Chinese fauxtiques shop on Etsy. One of the items was shown in a tiny just-listed thumbnail, and I said WTF and had to click it.

    Here’s the shop:

Note the way the antique paintings on paper are tacked to a background for the photos! I took a course on antique Chinese painting at college, which involved weekly trips to the Freer in DC. And a tour of the basement archival storage area for pieces not currently displayed. I can tell ya for sure that antique art is NOT handled this way.

I thought I’d submit the shop for callout here to generate some more flags and get Etsy’s attention. The shop has a very small number of items, but a lot of different types of things from leather work, to cast metal housewares, to tin signs, and now glassware. Listed as handmade.

  271. Derp April 1, 2011 at 8:21 am #

A friend showed me this one – potentially hallucinogenic, incredibly dangerous oil and ointment containing actual belladonna. Flagging by a bunch of people has done no good. This is a lawsuit or worse waiting to happen.

  272. lynn April 1, 2011 at 4:28 pm #

Here’s another reseller that makes the front page http://www.etsy.com/shop/beerring?ref=pr_shop_more when these $20 beer opener rings can be bought for $.25 apiece on Amazon. I’d love to be making that mark up.

Sure makes it hard on those of us who struggle just to be seen :: lynn

Oh Look, Oriental treasures has come up with a matching necklace for their ever poplar earrings.
Great for Etsy sellers. Just add some pearls on it somewhere and call it handmade. Good to go!

    heres the earrings:
    Nyjolejewellery $60 http://www.etsy.com/listing/61835487/bridal-pearl-earrings-weddings-bridal
    Belcanto $98 http://www.etsy.com/listing/66112562/rhinestone-and-pearl-chandelier-earrings

and here comes the new necklace:

    this site looks fishy…
the prices are dirt cheap for handmade and bridal no less.
    smells like a reseller

The resellers are getting smarter by cropping heads but here is a shop Wingwing168:
    Here is one listing:
Or you can buy it here too:

This shop huwangjunguo has had 107 sales since March 18th today is April 6th. Yeah all the items are made by their “TEAM”. Factory Team??? Custom made dress for under $25.00 dollars? You be the judge:

Two more sales since I was typing!

Not handmade. If you Google cotton ball lights Thailand you get a bunch of hits for suppliers/sellers. This item in particular was on the front page on 4/25/11 at about 6am EST.

If you look at the watermark in the listing above, it kindly informs you that “toprunway” will custom made this for you. (sic)

This BOOK which is 3 pages (is three sparsely populated pages in a pdf a book?) of incoherent notes next to links for web addresses most of which are listed a few times in separate categories. The best past is how she lists herself (her own company) as a wholesale seller for numerous supplies at huge mark ups. All of the wholesale sellers in the “book” are easily found via a simple search and do not offer the best pricing on the items they are peddling. She claims this is a helpful tool for people who want to sell on etsy but all of the listed business contacts require a person to carry business licenses and federal tax ID numbers to establish accounts. Several require you own an actual storefront a retail location to buy anything or even get a price list. She herself requires this on her website before she will approve a buyer. She does not outline anything share anything and this list has no value beyond acquiring more business for her.

    On the front page:

“These perfect-for-summer leather flats appear to never have been worn!….No wear on the soles or insoles–gotta love brand-new vintage!”

Perhaps that’s because they’re not remotely vintage? http://www.shoemall.com/product/Softspots-Womens-Hailee-Huarache-Tan-135016?utm_source=GoogleProductSearch&utm_medium=CSE&utm_campaign=CSE&CAWELAID=475765774
(Mind you, it took me all of three seconds to find this…type in softspots on Google and the picture comes up in the first line of shopping results. So I can see where it would be easy for the seller to assume they’re vintage. Sarcasm intended.)

An interesting one from the Etsy forums from a reseller with 2 shops,

The link to http://www.alibaba.com/product-tp/113983723/Felt_Ball_Rugs_Carpet.html compared with her rugs shown here, http://www.etsy.com/listing/68294350/3ft-yummi-round-felt-rug-90cmtagt-tag was included during the discussion.
Etsy admin came in and closed the thread so you would think that they would have read the whole thing and yet she still remains open for business.

Hi – RomancingJuliet opened another shop:

Her feedback got so bad for non-delivery of goods that Etsy shut her shop down. See her old shop:

Seller Portobello, who has been caught selling mass-produced jewelry in the past (several times), is selling more mass produced combs. This bridal comb in her shop (see the third picture):

    was purchased wholesale here:

Nothing was “altered” and she’s selling it as handmade and designed by her.

  293. FormerEtsyBuyer June 2, 2011 at 9:23 pm #

Portobello is selling a lot of mass produced things from this same website. Here is another bridal comb that she claims she handmade:

And here it is on a wholesale site:

    SUCH a fraud!!

  294. FormerEtsyBuyer June 6, 2011 at 9:43 pm #

Portobello is STILL selling bridal things which she hasn’t altered at all, but purchased from weddingfactorydirect.com. Example, this comb (if you remove spaces):
    http: // http://www.etsy.com/listing/75496056/lily-spray-head-piece?confirm_reported=1

    Is this comb:
    http: // http://www.weddingfactorydirect.com/comb-9817.html

Plus MANY other bridal combs on her site, plus her hair ribbon headpieces, can all be found on that wholesale site.
Portobello was shut down by etsy last February a couple of times for blatant reselling, but she’s still there, doing the same thing.

It is sad to see a once-handmade shop became a reseller shop.

The listing on eBay says… “The item will be shipped from China directly!!”

I can’t find the source for the rest, reseller is smart enough to rename the clothings and crop the pictures so it makes searching difficult.

    Yet another wholesaler on Etsy:
-Selling commercial or mass-produced items in Etsy’s handmade categories is not permitted
    Shop modemerr:

Here is the website and there are plenty of other wholesalers of this brand. There are plenty of sites for shops like this. Please keep Etsy clean.

  302. EtsyDontCare June 22, 2011 at 2:13 pm #

Typical Etsy they previously took down this shop pinupdress aka Queen of Holloway:

Well they are back in action. They have changed their titles to say custom made to all sizes and put this in their descriptions:

Total length of the dress is 38″.
NOTE: We will be happy to custom-order this garment to your specs! Please include the following measurements with your order:
    • Bust (in inches)
    • Waist (in inches)
    • Hips (in inches)
    • Preferred Length (in inches)

Note they do not say they MAKE this garment to spec they say they custom order this garment to your specs and what does that mean exactly? They take your measurements and find the closest that matches to their size charts.

I’m seeing more and more of these mass produced designers on Etsy, the resellers are bad enough now the seamstress have to compete with manufactured garments. I don’t like where Etsy is going and I feel they help these people word their listings.

I reported this specific item to Etsy admin a while ago when the seller actually mentioned in the item description that she got these from her supplier.

    The owner of this shop:
has been on another, unrelated site, bragging about charging minimum fees – and jacking up her shipping costs – so she can avoid etsy fees. I’ve reported and had even started a thread on etsy asking if it was fee avoidance and how to report it (without naming names, of course). But Admin shut it down and have done nothing about the item I reported. They SAID I can simply report things, and they will investigate, but I gather that is not always the case.

Nothing drives me more crazy than a copycat, and a copycat who is frequently featured on the front page and in Finds. She is copying sellers who have been around long before she has and steals all of their ideas. This shop has had close to 400 sales this year alone. Is there nothing that we can do, collectively, to end Etsy moderation’s avoidance of these situations? It is completely uncalled for that those who are following Etsy regulations and pointing out those who are not are the ones who’s threads are deleted and accounts closed. I am asking for a call-out revolution. Email me if you have ideas or support.

  309. Susan August 29, 2011 at 9:20 am #

I’ve flagged this for months but nothing happens. This shop happened to have a great vintage dress, and sold it, but then (I am assuming) realized that the dress was in a lot of treasuries which she didn’t want to lose. So she changed the listing to be a PICTURE of the dress instead. But has never changed the tags. She’s now sold another vintage dress and done the same thing.

I am sure this was called out before but can’t find it.

  310. Kelly E September 5, 2011 at 4:00 pm #

I just saw this on the home page

    None handmade OR vintage

  311. Karen September 9, 2011 at 8:23 am #

Blatant reseller! http://www.etsy.com/shop/kidneybag You can see other makers marks ON the actual bags and also see watermarks on the photos. Drives me nuts! I flagged this shop days ago. Really, it should be a no-brainer for Etsy to delete this account.

  312. Liindsey September 17, 2011 at 4:41 am #

I have a great one for items listed as vintage that are all clearly upcycled (she describes what she has done in her description to upcycle them) Even worse one of her listings is on the FP right now. I don’t believe this is a mistake with not knowing the rules because she has other listings that are in the handmade categories that are also upcycled vintage. She’s playing the odds here to get the best views.

BrisNanaJoy – A joke of a vintage seller.

Description: “Old Louis XV Style Dining table with base refinished in a pale grey finish. Has 2 leaves to seat 10 comfortably. Circa 1940. Imported from France.”

Table also available at Cottage Haven Interiors as Vintage Louis XV Style Dining Table

Wow! Same table, same photos but one is a faux finished table and one is Imported from France.

It might have started out in the 1930’s if I’m going to believe that, but has been reupholstered by Eloquence in cotton duck as all of their upholstered items are, so it’s not true vintage and shouldn’t be on Etsy.

  321. MadelM September 30, 2011 at 8:06 am #

currently on Etsy’s FP – clearly against TOU. It’s an ad NOT a specific item for sale. $1 for custom order and $1 for worldwide shipping – really?!?!

    Even the seller states it!
    – “look through our ETSY ads for a collection of past orders”

    *never mind the off-Etsy link

“Need inspiration? visit our Virtual Collection http://www.dasweetzpot.com/Virtual-Collection.html

  324. Grown-Up Girl Scout October 15, 2011 at 9:56 pm #

I am passionate about Girl Scouting and often search Etsy for vintage Girl Scout items. There are several “vintage” items that come up in my searches ALL THE DAMN TIME and I am sick of it. I have reported some of them several times and obviously nothing has come of it.

(I hope I am allowed to call out several sellers at once…)

This vest is not “vintage”; ~20 years ago we didn’t wear American flag pins on top like that. Those appeared post-9/11. Also, for less than $25, you could buy a new vest and pins, since they still make these!

Does she not realize that the patches have DATES on them? Since when is 2002 vintage?

1993? Also not vintage quite yet.

This one is less obvious unless you’re a big nerd like me. That bottom pin has been introduced within the last ~15 years, though I can’t remember exactly when. Regardless of the seller’s implication that these are from “the 50s”, this is not vintage either.

Whew, I feel better having vented this. Thanks :p

  325. jobradley October 25, 2011 at 12:05 pm #

This looks like a mass manufacturer now on the FP:
    Handmade clothes for $8-20.00 ??

why are they closing and their own domain website is closed down?

“Our head office, based in Toronto, Canada, and production team in New York’s fashion district”

More than a collective? Sounds like BS to me

  326. What A Sham! October 26, 2011 at 3:32 pm #

How is this handmade? She sells the tags for 50 cents each. If she ties it to an imported pashmina it is $12.

Why is etsy allowing this? It is the same as the sellers that are pinning a felt flower to a scarf and calling it handmade. I think that it is an unethical way to get around the system.

  327. Liindesy November 4, 2011 at 10:12 am #

All the items are lifted from famous works. Kinda funny actually, the seller admits to it in their profile.

  328. sophia November 9, 2011 at 3:39 pm #

Obviously mass-made rhinestone products, many can be found on amazon etc, but are being sold here for 2-3 times more as “handmade”.

Resale, these items are brand new, she even says so in her description, and you can buy them on Alibaba!

NestingPretty copies NestPrettyThingsShop down to the name!

It’s so obvious she’s copying the original shop (NestPrettyThingsShop). Their designs are similiar but some listing descriptions are flat-out copying the original Nest PrettyThings shop.

She also copied Dreams by the Sea with her leaf bobby pins.

I confronted NestingPretty on Facebook when she linked her leaf bobby pins telling her she was a copycat and even though she KNOWS she’s a copycat she has the ballz to say:

“I don’t really understand your comment. All of my designs are original one of a kind designed my myself. If someone else has something similar I am not aware of it. Maybe you could inform me??”

    Yeah right! Loser!

always check thesoapguy.com before buying “handmade” soap. you’ll be surprised how many etsy sellers buy cp soap wholesale and stick their label on it.

we just want to say thank you, etsycalloutblog! we cross reference here regularly, and occasionally post your link on our tumblr for those buyers who may have questions about whether or not something is realy handmade or vintage!

I just don’t get why it is so hard for the people at Etsy to recognise resellers. Here are a few that I consider resellers…because I don’t think that by just adding a chain you should be able to say that you handmade it!http:

Please take a moment and review this shop below.

They claim that their rings are cast from antique jewelry, listed as vintage 80s items. What a joke! That’s not vintage, or close to it. If their items are antique then why do they have multiple rings in the same color & design? Luck!? Old stock maybe?! We all know that even old stock from an estate have limited quantities and will have vinatge storage wear. It gets even better, they sell true vintage items, only to hide the real truth. Very clever! Another big fat lie, they claim that some of their vintage rings were casted by an English silversmith. Fact: England never hallmark their jewelry 925.

Maybe this can help my case further,

Reseller with 872 sales since April 2011.

    is also http://www.lotustraders.net

Which sells through their own website, eBay and Amazon and very clearly says that they have their own factory and a chain of stores called Daya.

http://www.facebook.com/pages/LotusTraders-Clothing has both the Etsy and Ebay shop links.

Which makes it all very charming to read the Etsy profile of how designer Annie Shaffer has a team with her family and some Bali “helpers”. What a heartwarming story. They’ve been coached so very obviously.

Earring Go Round Earring Holders Not Handmade by seller

    On Amazon : http://www.amazon.com/shops/A3OT3RBFQ9W5RO

    Web sites: http://www.earringgoround.org/ http://www.earringgoround.com

Google profile of shop owner: https://profiles.google.com/modernearringtree/about

Electroplated earring holder. Anyone else up for some home electroplating?

    From Monique’s own blog:

Welcome to the beginning of our busiest time of the year…… Earring-Go-Round makes the perfect gift! Arrives fully assembled, easy to use and affordable.

We are receiving over 2,000 Earring-Go-Rounds this month and expect to once again receive our award for “Best Holiday Gift Item”. ”

So she’s outsourced the entire manufacture of the item, has been in the top 25% of sellers on Amazon, sells 2000 units a month and is Handmade?

  340. susan December 18, 2011 at 10:54 am #

I shouldn’t flag shops before putting them on this blog. In reference to the EarringGoRound call out above (waiting for moderation) I have not noticed the shop announcement to say that the seller assembles and applies all of the finishing touches herself.

She’s been coached. This makes me sick.

  341. susan December 18, 2011 at 10:55 am #

oops, meant to say… have now noticed the shop announcement has changed from “receiving 2,000 [items]” to the seller assembles herself. Darn copypaste fingers.

  342. Sandra December 26, 2011 at 4:02 pm #

These shoes on Etsy’s front page as I type are called “pre-owned” and listed in Handmade Clothing http://www.etsy.com/listing/75458522/christmas-sale-black-patent-leather?confirm_reported=1

Another crafter who decides to unload her used clothing in her shop. This one, however, doesn’t try to call them “Vintage,” she just lists them in Handmade. And gets them on the front page!

There’s a pair of Jessica Simpson shoes in her shop, too.

  343. jobradley January 1, 2012 at 5:12 pm #

How about sellers passing off fake designer handbags as vintage at the authentic vintage price? What a scam this one is:
the real deal is here https://www.luxuryexchange.com/shop/louis-vuitton/authentic-louis-vuitton-murakami-cherry-blossom-sac-retro-bag-limited-/prod_171.html?ccUser=

I’ve seen so many designer items, LV in particular, that are mistagged as vintage when they are contemporary knock-offs or the seller describes as “don’t know if its real or not” but charges a high authentic price. Whether its Disney, Hello Kitty, Chanel or LV, a fake is copyright infringement.

  344. jobradley January 2, 2012 at 4:29 am #

How about a year in review of shops shut down and hopefully gone for good in 2011? Who did we say goodbye and good riddance to? DustyLorraine and Orglamix come to mind for me. I used to keep tabs on the shenanigans of PoetSummer, thanks to PussDaddy. Keep up the great work everyone.

  345. GRRRRR January 2, 2012 at 10:11 pm #

“Antique reproduction” horsehead door knocker from alibaba http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/310770542/cast_iron_door_knocker.html

And the same item called Handmade by AllCountryPretties http://www.etsy.com/listing/88399236/door-knocker-lucky-horseshoe-and-horse (this is just her current listing, she has sold several already)

Just take a look at her “Cast Iron” shop category, and you’ll see all the same stuff that’s been complained about forever on Etsy http://www.etsy.com/shop/AllCountryPretties?section_id=6515043

  347. MollyR January 15, 2012 at 11:35 am #

Came across this blatant example of reselling yesterday in the Heartsy VIP email. The fun part? The reselling information is in the 1st paragraph of the seller’s listings! Seller is here http://www.etsy.com/shop/NATIVEX?ref=ss_profile
See the first part of the listing here: http://www.etsy.com/listing/89780552/bear-iv
I find this disturbing on many levels: that this shop has been operating for 2 years, that he’s now getting Heartsy exposure, and that the original artist may have no idea his work is now being sold at cut rate prices.

  348. Kelly January 31, 2012 at 8:10 pm #

Nothing like a good old self call out. Azuraccessories posted links to items in her shop on Etsy’s Facebook page; too bad they’re all typical made in China pocket watches.

Here’s just a few examples from her shop, and links to where they can be found for wholesale. I’d post more, but we all know these kinds of shops are the exact same. This is sitting right under Etsy’s nose on their FB page (and the shop was reported too), but of course, that will probably do nothing.

  349. FormerEtsyBuyer February 1, 2012 at 10:03 am #

Portobello is STILL selling unaltered bridal things which she buys (mostly) from weddingfactorydirect.com. And she is STILL using their wholesale picture too:

    http://www.etsy.com/listing/90300897/double-magnolia-bridal-headpiece ($69.00)

    bought from here:
    http://weddingfactorydirect.com/comb-5690-ivory.html ($12 with a suggested price of $29! HA!)

The picture is the same, only flipped 180 degrees to be “clever”. And you can see that the flower on the model head is identical to the wholesale pic shown.

There are so many things in her etsy shop that she bought at weddingfactorydirect and then removed some crystals or dangles and calls that “lovingly handmade in her studio”—combs, headbands, veils, earrings, etc. She was closed for awhile last year and apparently “coached” and given etsy’s blessing, because they ignore reports. I had to laugh at her recent negative feedback where the buyer was disappointed that she couldn’t alter the comb—no kidding!

  350. susan February 7, 2012 at 7:56 pm #

Same seller, two shops, not disclosing the other shop.

  351. What a Scam February 8, 2012 at 9:25 am #

Some etsy sellers have such balls! On the front page as I type, how could this seller possibly think these are 1) antique, and 2) worth 45 bucks?

I know, I know. They’ll be sold very shortly.

  352. Shani February 10, 2012 at 1:46 pm #

I’ve been on Etsy for over 2 years and this is the 1st time something like this happened to me. I never received the item I ordered for robotannie shop , the seller ignores all my emails & convos – Yesterday I found out the seller took down her shop from Etsy and vanished for good (or so she thinks..) Horrific!!! people be aware and do not purchase anything from this shop or from her separate website that goes by the exact same name as her Etsy shop.
She buys things wholesale and pretends she designed them, you will never get an item from her, she just takes your money
and vanishes, never responding to emails. BE AWARE!

In response to Trollia: Your name says it all!

No pumpkin I did not get flagged, there is no reason for me to be flagged! I follow the rules and I have no reason to not do so! I just really honestly think that people like you contribute to the hate in the world! You are just as bad as people who cheat!! All I am saying is you seriously need to get a life…we know it – you know it! Your all bitter because you are totally unhappy with your life, and yourself! I am just trying to help you better yourself by forcing you to realize that you just look like a whiner not a hard working business woman who has no time for such frivolous complaints! If you had a successful shop on etsy you would have no time to notice! It took me 3 months to even acknowledge you….that is why you are unsuccessful, not because of misleading tags people use on Etsy, because you are a busy body sooooo worried and ready to “Flag” (lol so dumb) people! Grow up

  354. ann February 15, 2012 at 2:36 pm #

I know faux vintage is rampant on etsy, but I particularly hate it when it comes from a hugely popular etsy vintage darling.

As any home canner knows, these are not from the 1970s. They are the current version of 12 oz. Ball Quilted Canning jars.

I bought mine at Walmart, and the 12 pack is under $10. They’re holding jam in my refrigerator as we speak.

  355. trollia February 17, 2012 at 9:32 am #

Ahh, I see- only YOU can hate, right sweetie? Why complain about rampant lying and cheating, when it’s obvious that the real evil is pointing out the lying and cheating.

thanks goodness we have nice passive aggressive bitchlets to let us know we’re what’s wrong with the world!

PS: I don’t have a “shop” on Etsy. I’m a buyer who is sick and tired of wading through acres of Chinese slave-made crap to find the real handmade items I wish to support.

  356. Pam Gari February 20, 2012 at 2:20 pm #

Trollia, It just means that all this IS actually working to some extent. These people honestly believe that Etsy is another ‘Greedbay’. It’s why I wonder if even having an Etsy shop is worth the time and trouble. It’s depressing being ignored whilst watching these dishonest “Business women” cheat the system and Etsy encouraging them.

  357. Trollia February 21, 2012 at 11:32 am #

I hear ya, Pam. Do wish Etsy would get on the side of ethics and put a stop to it. EBay was ruined by the Crap creep, same will happen there if they keep dithering.

  358. Chervil March 18, 2012 at 6:35 pm #

While I will agree with most of the posts here about the need to be specific in “tagging” and listing items in the correct categories, I notice that some of you seem to have a sore spot for anything not made from “scratch”.

You have called out a few shops who I personally know the owners of for “reselling” cheap china crap. (two of them being very close friends)
Of course, none of those shops I know of personally merely turn around and sell the item. They take the time to paint and distress the item in a way that is pleasing, or modify it in some other way.
And, this is in line with Etsy policy.
I know, I have personally had several conversations with Etsy support on the subject to make sure of what is and isn’t allowed. All the shop owners I know personally are very concerned about making sure they follow the policy and spirit of Etsy.

Now, it would be wrong of them to list the item as “vintage” or to tag it as such, and I agree that the term “vintage inspired” tends to be overused.
But there is nothing against Etsy policy in taking an item (wood, cast iron, plastic, glass), modifying it in some way (painting, staining, etc.) and then selling the finished product.

How many of you actually make your own split rings and earhooks?
Or craft your own clasps and chain?
Or do you “assemble” the parts and then sell the whole?

There is a distinct difference between someone who is buying items from Amazon or Alibaba and just straight up reselling them, and someone who is buying an item wholesale and then modifying it.

If you see a shop that you think IS violating this policy, do you contact them and try to point it out, or do you just FLAG FLAG FLAG and not care?
Are you interested in truly helping your fellow Etsians and making Etsy a better place, or just in being self-righteously vindicated.
Just because you an item for sale somewhere else, doesn’t make the Etsy seller a “reseller”, especially if they are following Etsy policy on the item.

Before the accusations fly, let me state that I have been neither flagged or tagged or anything else.
My motive in this post is to maybe help a few of the reasonable among you to look at things a bit more objectively.

I know that straight up reselling has been and continues to be a problem on Etsy.
    But don’t confuse the two.

  359. Pam Gari March 18, 2012 at 8:21 pm #

I dare anyone to contact a shop and not get their head bitten right off. I tried, and these people do not care, all they care about is making the front page with whatever cobbled together vintage inspired THING or made in a sweatshop item. It’s become another Greedbay and the asskissers know where to place their worn but still useable lips. Personally, I will not sell OR buy on Etsy anymore for the same reasons that I do not go near Greedbay. The real artists know where to go to sell, and the savvy buyers do too… Etsy is terminal and not worth fighting for anymore, we were lied to from the start.
    The End.

Do a search for “hunger games jewelry” on Alibaba and then one on Etsy… it’s shameful! I reported it to Etsy, so we’ll see… I’ve heard horror stories about doing that, but I’m so fed up!

  363. Pam Gari April 19, 2012 at 4:07 pm #

Maybe this all needs to move to Facebook where the spiders can find it more easily. The ONLY way to make Etsy change their ways is to snatch away the food! If people start shopping elsewhere because of the same issues that we are constantly commenting about, then MAYBE… but people in general are just sheep and will keep going back even if they get bitten repeatedly, and Etsy loves lamb.

  364. Jenifer April 27, 2012 at 1:23 pm #

All of them, reseller , You can buy anythings like in those shops in market everywhere in Thailand and surely they are not unique!!!!
please ask them how they made?

I saw more shops in etsy. They are reseller. I think this not fair and fake for handmade.
Yes, those are handmade but made from someone or some shop. BUY AND SELL. It is very easy.

Just to give example today. If I search more will see more! It was very sad with this who love real handmade include me.

    Reseller or not?

gina mcknight, my heart goes out to you. Same thing happened to me, different item… Long story short, you can report your little heart out, and Etsy doesn’t give a big fat rat’s ass! They’ll tell you need a lawyer to make things right. Who can afford that, huh? The system stinks, and it smells like essence of Etsy.

  368. Mrs Marino May 15, 2012 at 12:03 pm #

Former employee that ran an etsy shop selling our designs then was immediately fired after finding out she had her own shop and stole quite a few of our designs! Her design- http://www.etsy.com/listing/98964401/shades-of-green-paisley-oval-mosaic
    Our design – https://www.etsy.com/listing/88690005/sale-cleopatra-97-hammered-hoops-with?ref=v1_other_1
Now she is tagging her jewelry with names we use like Juno, Cleopatra etc. She has also copied our Princess line and used the same name!

Saw this NEW! copycat photo by Bobo today : http://www.etsy.com/listing/99929007/horse-photo-white-horse-equestrian?ref=sr_list_17&ga_search_query=horse+photo&ga_view_type=list&ga_ship_to=ZZ&ga_min=0&ga_max=0&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_facet=handmadehorse+photo

Seems he really liked the one by this top artist that is two years old: http://www.etsy.com/listing/78543535/nature-photography-white-horse?ga_search_query=horse&ga_search_type=user_shop_ttt_id_5152764

As a photographer who tries to straddle the fence between staying original and staying relevant I know how hard it is not to be overly influenced by the art around me. But this sort of carbon copying is weak to say the least. Think of something on your own bobo.

On the FP right now – http://www.etsy.com/listing/99876497/

Charging $70 for a french press you can buy at Kohls?

I don’t know if that’s the exact model, but they weren’t putting that logo on french presses in 1950.

And they list the handle as bakelite! HA. If it’s bakelite, I’ll eat my hat. Is everything plastic referred to as bakelite now? I must have missed the memo.

I having a real problem with a seller on Etsy-how do I report it here?
I would love to know why this person is still selling (allowed) at a 50% rating and PayPal is also involved. Can someone help me? thanks

  373. Beth June 5, 2012 at 6:11 pm #

I have started to get harassing email from the seller-Etsy FINALLY has “kind of” stepped in and set the seller a message indicating I DO NOT have to close the case as the seller as been requesting- yet Etsy has not suspend the seller.
PayPal is taking it a bit more serious and requested the offensive email.
I still have not have the funds released as PayPal tells me- they are still waiting on it from the seller! e-check!
SO Etsy really does nothing to sellers?

This shop has almost 4,000 sales in a year…located in China and clearly selling Alibaba trinkets. Makes me so sad! (Also love how he labels the same bracelet as both “Hunger Games” and “Disney’s Brave”)

  377. Nika July 2, 2012 at 10:09 pm #

Ok i hope this is how you report a reseller (i also sent an email, no response). I noticed that within a week there have been 2 resellers on the FP both selling the same massed produced hair ties!

The reason I am certain they’re not “handmade” is because I bought a pack of the black ties (featured in the 2nd link) at the Dollar Tree for $1! I contacted Etsy, but alas, nothing was done.

  378. Krys July 10, 2012 at 2:45 pm #

The two sneaky resellers to report. The shops I am referring to are Charms4You: http://www.etsy.com/shop/charms4you and AgHalo: http://www.etsy.com/shop/AgHalo. Now, while they may be “Etsy legal” for putting a charm on a chain, or just selling the charm, it is quite obvious they do not make their post earrings. As for AgHalo, I don’t believe she makes her toe rings or her ear cuffs either. I’ve reported these two to Etsy’s Marketplace Integrity Team several weeks ago to no avail. I don’t for a moment think either of them have the wherewithal to pass off being able to make this stuff themselves what with Etsy requiring extensive photographic evidence as proof and the materials receipts with dates.

    Charms4You – http://www.etsy.com/shop/charms4you

She passes off her stud/post earrings as being supplies: http://www.etsy.com/shop/charms4you?section_id=6410355

My favorite way of passing the time with Etsy is reporting sellers who are not only reselling, but using the same photos as can be found on Ebay. Since I have a rather severe Ebay habit, I’m rather good at it. These are just some of the use of stock photo by Callout-regular fenasd3321. All were reported months ago. All are still online.

And just remember who made all these “handmade” things for fenas

“But then I am a jealous hating bitch who has no life.” This just about sums it up.

Art isn’t so cut and dry. As artists (is that what you are?), you’d think you would recognize this.

  381. winnie July 28, 2012 at 5:57 am #

A treasury of “handmade” items. Amazing how they’re practically identical!

  382. Kristy Barr July 28, 2012 at 8:36 pm #

    Don’t think this is handmade

Same blue on the alibaba.com website…. coincidence I don’t think so

  383. Chelsey August 4, 2012 at 9:21 pm #

Brandi Marie’s Boutique claims to have handmade jewelry. Like this…

    Brandi Marie’s Boutique: http://www.etsy.com/listing/105649988/gold-angel-wing-ear-cuff?ga_search_query=ear%2Bcuff

    Alibaba: http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/572337161/Stud_Clip_Earring_Vogue_Wing_Star.html

    Brandi Marie’s Boutique: http://www.etsy.com/listing/103316575/sale-25-off-bohemian-gold-beaded-hoop

    Alibaba: http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/532107899/Glass_beads_hoop_earring_EAO2140.html

    Brandi Marie’s Boutique: http://www.etsy.com/listing/105654396/adjustable-two-finger-peace-ring-with-a

    Alibaba: http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/455474736/Two_Finger_Peace_Ring.html

So, clearly, these are all handmade by Brandi Marie and then she wholesales them to China in great quantities after laboring for hours doing metalwork. Right?….

Who controls the front page? Must be one of Raceytay’s old college buds.

Hey, I ‘m a big kid… I know life is not always fair, and this is not sour grapes. My work has been nationally published and supports my family quite well and I certainly am not one to begrudge someone else success…..

    But what the F*%$…..!

For those of you playing along at home the Tay Miester has been on the FP 1457 times so far this year.

That comes to 6 times a day. And I see no sign of it stopping. She has a lock on this thing.

You can’t tell me it’s just a coincidence. That perhaps no one in Adminville noticed that they were financing one vendors early retirement by providing a level of exposure the rest of us couldn’t pay for if we wanted to.

    I call BS!

  385. runswithscissors4 August 28, 2012 at 7:59 am #

It’s called being an Etsy cupcake. If you’ve ever said one negative remark regarding Etsy in the forums, you’ll never again see the light of the Front Page. Yep, agreed, it’s BS!

  386. CDC August 28, 2012 at 8:58 am #

But this is something very different Scissors.

I get a fair shake on the FP. No complaints. But this is in an entirely different category. I’m not talking about “how come I don’t get on the FP”

That’s not the issue at all.

This is about someone receiving benefits. Very specific favor that creates a monetary reward for them.

I don’t care if your work is garbage. Land on the front page 7 of the prime hours out of every damn day of the week and you have a successful cottage industry.

    Inside job!

Reselling these deer as a “vintage supply”, even though the are mass produced by Darice, and you can get them for $1.27 from Consumer Crafts:

A fascinating discussion is definitely worth comment. I believe that you ought to publish more on this subject
matter, it might not be a taboo subject but generally people do
not discuss these topics. To the next! Many thanks!

  389. HUFFY808 September 8, 2012 at 7:27 pm #

i just hate it when people play like thieves! okay fine sell PDF patterns, from vintage patterns. But copying patterns that are not in public domain! come on, wake up etsy! this is down right wrong, and you are making money off from thieves!

THIS IS AGAINST THE LAW!……….and you know It!

check out this etsy shop “plasticlin”

Reseller. Just Beautiful Things on etsy. Also has store called Rian Rae.

    Her store:

    Same as this:

Even sold a pouf from Urban Outfitters on etsy.

I think she is painting some of the signs. The quality and style differences are obvious (as well as the prices). She values her own work much higher.

Today, I went to the beachfront with my children.
I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and
said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She
put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a
hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had
    to tell someone!

Looking for a cellphone case and came across this gem of a seller: Classic buy-sell, brand-new shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/CocoonByWL?ref=pr_shop_more

Thanks so much for your site! I am disgusted by all the buy-sell allowed on Etsy, and the morons who snap it up so readily. Do they truly believe that they’re buying something unique and handmade?
